REVIEW: The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O'Neill. I absolutely loved this little graphic novel!!! It was a nice quick and cute read about love and friendship. It was wonderful to see how diverse and inclusive this story was without being forward about it. They made the lives of all these characters blend so easily. The art work was also so incredible. The cover alone, was the reason I bought this book.The detail was amazing and the palette of colours made the vibe much more magical and light. I would definitely get a print from Katie O'Neill for my computer wallpaper or even to hang on my wall. The Tea Dragon Society graphic novel series by K O'Neill is the absolute sweetest inclusive fantasy! I didn't know cozy fantasy was a genre til I met this series - it's like snuggling up in a warm blanket with someone you love and - of course - tea :) I've actually only read #1 and this one, #3 (#2 is on back order) so I don't know the entire story, but it follows an creative, earnest apprentice blacksmith named Greta and her friends, including swordsman Erik and his wizard husband Hezekiel, adventurers who have settled down to a cottage life after Erik lost the use of his legs in an injury, Minette, a former prophetess who suffers from memory loss and worries about her identity, and a master blacksmith who longs to rekindle the passion he once had for his work. And, of course, the titular tea dragons - adorable tiny domesticated dragons whose horns produce tea leaves which match their personality, who are lovingly cared for by the characters. The art is beyond gorgeous, incorporating so many manga elements, like a focus on subtle emotion, small moments in nature and between people, and growing as a person, and all of it is so heartwarming and beautiful. And it's so inclusive! Greta is Black, Erik and Hezekiel are gay, Erik is disabled, and none of it feels like checking a box - just natural elements of a human story that represents the diversity of the human experience. O'Neill also wrote and illustrated Princess Princess Ever After, an equally sweet and inclusive fairytale where two princesses develop a beautiful relationship. My Thoughts: This one of the most heartwarming and lovely graphic novels i’ve ever read. Katie O’Neils art is simple but beautiful.

Tea Dragon Society is broken up into 5 parts. One for each season. It follows our main character Greta who is the daughter of the town blacksmith. One day greta rescues a tea dragon. Greta’s father recognizes the little dragon and knows who his owner is. And once Greta goes to return the little dragon, she gets an invite from the owner, Hesekiel, to come and learn all about the Tea Dragons! 

I loved the premise of the tea dragons. Each one is so unique looking and has their own personality. It was fun learning about them.I think my favorite dragon was the camomile dragon.

It’s so cute. I want my own tea dragon even though i don’t like tea lmao. But the Tea Dragon society isn’t just about the tea dragons and greta it’s truly about family, friendship and being who you are. Also if you’re looking for a story with great rep i think this is definitely it. This stars people of color and had disability & LGBtQ+ rep. I know this review was a bit all over the place but i really enjoyed this and highly recommend it. :)
