It blows my mind that by giving the mithril shirt to Bilbo, Thorin indirectly saved Frodo and thus prevented the Ring-bearer from dying and the Quest from failing. The world was ultimately saved because the exiled King Under the Mountain fell in love with a hobbit.

Woke up and chose angst :}
Have you ever wondered of what were fili’s last thoughts? Like obviously he was thinking of kili and Thorin and how at least he gave his brother a chance to survive, but i like to think that he thought of his Amad the most.
Being the firstborn wasn’t easy especially considering he’s Thorin’s heir and Dis was one of the only people that made him feel like all that didn’t matter, he was just Fili, her son, her confidant (especially after her husband’s death), her partner in crime.
He died regretting many things and one of these was being forced to leave his amad behind
The song is called Underworld of the Underworld Saga of Epic :D, go and check it out

My Valentines Day artwork this year, but I didn't get around to post it until now. It's Smaugbo art of The Hobbit and Smaug, and was for a contest where you should draw a Valentine's Day Card, so this artwork is a card with the wing moveable.

Here's the thing (don't kill me for this):
Thorin dying at the End of The Hobbit makes sense, in a tragic kind of way. He always gave his everything for his people, it is somewhat poetic that his last act of service to his people was the ultimate sacrifice. That he could find peace with.
He'd find the afterlife an actual restful place, and could take the time to face his demons & trauma. Because he would know he did all he could & gave all the had.
HOWEVER!!!!
Fili & Kili dying was pure BULLSHIT!!!!!
I don't know what possessed Tolkien (our love & saviour, no disrespect) to kill them. Extra tragedy? Pffffff
Un.nece.ssary!
Apart from how Fili would have made an AMAZING king, them dying, his CHILDREN (look me in the eyes and tell me he didn't love those two like his own sons I dare you) ruined ALL peace he would have ever had, turning the WHOLE THING into a needless tragedy, the line ending, their home regained but not for his boys.
THAT is the real crime, that those boys, who left to fight for a home they never even knew, out of loyalty and love for their uncle & surrogate father, lost their lives before actually living them.
THAT is what I will never forgive, forever deny, and why I continue reading fix-it fics like a starving person.
JOHN RONALD REUEL I have WORDS for you!!!!!!

Children's Book Illustrations that Stayed with Me as a Little Girl (Part 1)
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn illustration for The Wind in the Willows by Mary Jane Begin
Tumblr media
Mermaid's Lagoon from Peter Pan by Scott Gustafson
Tumblr media
Jean Zallinger's Hook from a Bullseye Step into classics version of Peter Pan. He's certainly not as dashing as Jason Isaacs, and I loved his teeth which I imagined all yellowed and reminded me of a skull. I also imagined his eye gleaming red.
Tumblr media
Michael Hague's take on Smaug
Tumblr media
Freya's Hall illustration from D'aulaire's Book of Norse Myths. This illustration soothed me and I wanted to be in their company.
Tumblr media
And more D'aulaire art, from their Book of Greek Myths, Gaea and Uranus. I LOVE Gaea in particular - the way the river flows through her neck, the way his stars are reflected in the pools of her eyes...
Tumblr media
...the birth of Aphrodite... I LOVE the colors here, the oranges and golds that mingle with the blue-green of the sea.
Tumblr media
...and Perseus and Medusa. I loved Medusa's design in this book because it felt so unique, not usual depiction I was familiar with and also not Harryhausen's take.
Tumblr media
Arthur Rackham's illustration of the third sister's encounter with the human children. This one definitely encouraged my naturist tendencies when I was little lol.
Tumblr media
the Asian Lung from Dragonology
Tumblr media
Dora Curtis and Diana Stanley's illustrations for a 1964 edition of Jean Ingelow's Mospa the Fairy that I found in my elementary school library - ALL of them - the header for the first chapter always connected with me because it promised wonder just on the edges of our own world, even though it wasn't one of the fabulous color plates...
Tumblr media
...an example of which I share here.
Tumblr media
(I think I'll continue in Part 2 because this post is getting rather long.)

Took a mini break from the Star Wars content for this fun little hobbit illustration. This scene is one of my absolute favorites in the books!

my sister and i were talking about tolkien one day while discussing a post i saw that said tolkien universe relationships are queer-coded, and then it segued into tolkien and c.s. lewis being classmates and how c.s. lewis's story is somehow conceptually the opposite because the narnia cast literally dives into the closet. and now i'm realizing just how queer that concept is lmao.
