Happy anniversary to my horrible child, the Gift. I wrote an AU campaign idea for them a year ago and then never posted it. This just about sums them up though :]

I’m just about done with finals, so I decided to gather up a quick list of over 50+ different POC women characters with actual good stories and character development as well as what they’re in, since you guys seem to be complacent in accepting mediocrity🥰
I know there are A LOT more REALLY GOOD characters out there, like Firebird from Marvel for example, but these are all characters from media that I either have personally consumed or know a lot about that I can think about off the top of my head. So if anyone wants to keep the list going in the comments, please feel free to add on
Charlotte- Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
Shuri- Black Panther (MY LOVE😭❤️)
Okoye- Black Panther
Nakia- Black Panther
Queen Ramonda- Black Panther
Katara- ATLA
Korra- LoK
Toph- ATLA
Azula- ATLA
Beauregard- Critical Role: Campaign 2
Fy’ra Rai- Critical Role: Exandria Unlimited
Opal- Critical Role: Exandria Unlimited
Deni$e- Critical Role: Campaign 3
Deanna- Critical Role: Campaign 3
Lady Kima: Critical Role: Campaign 1/ Legends of Vox Machina
Laerryn: Critical Role: Exandria Unlimited: Calamity
Veth Brenatto- Critical Role: Campaign 2
Mirko- My Hero Academia
Ahsoka (people refer to her as a POC character even though she’s a Togruta)
Moana
Mulan
Tiana- Princess and the Frog
Esmeralda- The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Nani- Lilo and Stitch
Raya- Raya and the Last Dragon
Mel- Arcane
Ambessa Medara- Arcane
Sevika- Arcane
(Special shout out to Ekko from Arcane because he’s SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER)
Storm- Marvel comics
Wonder Woman- DC comics (she is Mediterranean, which is located in the North Africa/ Europe/ West Asia region, for the incels who are going to try to fight me on that. Just because your skin has less melanin than people “think you should have” does not invalidate you being a POC)
Nubia- DC comics
Special shoutout to General Nanisca in The Woman King. I have not watched it yet, but I’ve heard a lot of great things
Valkyrie- Thor Ragnarok
Gamora: Guardians of the Galaxy (though, she’s not human, she’s a Zen-Whoberis, but her actress is Dominican and Puerto Rican)
Ava Silva- Warrior Nun
Sister Beatrice- Warrior Nun
Sister Lilith- Warrior Nun
Deyha- Genshin Impact
Candace- Genshin Impact
Xinyan- Genshin Impact
Janai- The Dragon Prince
Ursula- Once Upon A Time
Mulan- Once Upon a Time
Lucyna “Lucy” Kushinada- Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Mermista- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Catra- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Lonnie- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Netossa- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Entrapta- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Perfuma- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Mara- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Frosta- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
(All of whom are Etherian’s, not Terran’s, which would equivalate people from earth)
Mazikeen- Lucifer
Wednesday Addams- The Addam’s Family/ Wednesday
Calliope “Cal” Burns- First Kill
Talia Burns- First Kill
Yennefer- The Witcher (actress is of Indian descent.)
Triss- The Witcher (some debate can be had about this due to her character in the games being white and her actress in the show having South African heritage. I enjoy them both equally)
I would add Pocahontas to this list, but the Disney recreation of her story is an extremely incorrect and awful retelling, so I implore you to go and look up the story of Amonute/ Matoaka, which is the true name of Pocahontas. It’s not an easy story to hear, but I feel as though people need to know her true story instead of Disney’s romanticized one.
Also, if you guys REALLY want a good female POC pirate story, check out the story of the most successful pirate in the world named Ching Shih, aka Cheng I Sao. She was a woman born in Guangdong, China in the late 18th century and worked as a prostitute until she caught the eye of Cheng I, the notorious Commander of the Red Flag Fleet. After buying and marrying her, he noticed her intelligence, leadership skills, and determination, so he began to teach her about life in the high seas. She quickly adapted and helped him lead his fleet, and when he died she assumed full control over his fleet and amassed 1,800 ships and 80,000 pirates under her control and became the most feared pirate leader of her time. It’s a VERY cool story

Hide & Seek references compendium
I put so many little easter eggs and hidden things in my Hide and Seek fic, so here is my little ongoing list of references I purposefully put in the fic for those of you who like this kind of thing idk man
Chapter 1, Disney's Hercules: "Hey, Mack! Ya wanna buy a sundial?" Disney's Jungle Cruise: “Trader Sam’s! Come shop at Trader Sam’s! He’ll give you a great deal on shrunken heads! Two of his heads for one of yours!” the Holmes Hotel, Hugh's Pies is a reference to Nickelodeon's Jimmy Neutron series, Lilo's Stitches and Embroidery is a nod to Disney's Lilo and Stitch, "Crusty the Crab" is a nod to Spongebob Squarepants, Chell's Portal Stop is a reference to the game series Portal, and the final scene is from the ROTTMNT episode "Hidden City's Most Wanted".
Though this is not technically a reference or Easter egg, I wanted to add this note… I made a point of referring to Splinter as Lou Jitsu when he was mad or angry or selfish, and as Hamato Yoshi when he was scared or sad.
Tumblr media
Chapter 2, Leo's determination to have Raph call him "the world's greatest ninja" is a reference to the film, Leo's quote "Land safely!" is taken from the episode "Mystic Mayhem" as well as the episode "The Evil League of Mutants", Leo's complaining to be leader is a nod to his future role, Raph referring to his father as a "sewer monster" is a reference to the episode "Man vs. Sewer", Splinter has a flashback from the episode "Goyles, Goyles, Goyles" and the line "OW! Why, you little--!" is also taken from that same episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 3, Mikey's dream is obviously a nod to all that he will do in the future.
Chapter 4, The origin of Lace Face from the episode "Man vs. Sewer".
Chapter 5, Phineas and Ferb "Escape from Phineas Tower": "That's some mole!" The line "Raph! Your enormous body is crushing me!!” is a reference to Disney's Lilo and Stitch, "sweater town" is a reference to the Gravity Falls episode "The Hand that Rocks the Mabel", the line "I didn't want to believe it, but... *sigh* science." is taken directly from the ROTTMNT film as well as a moment when Leo mentions that Donnie was wrong, Donnie uses two really's, a reference from the episode "Breaking Purple", Donnie gives Leo the comic seen in the episode "Jupiter Jim Ahoy!"
Tumblr media
Chapter 6, Splinter's tv flips through several channels which include clips from media. These include a Thomas Sanders vine with "Weatherman Al", the quote "My leg!" from Spongebob Squarepants, part of the Fairly Odd Parents' theme song, Mrs. Cuddles' catchphrase "Let's be friends forever!", "I've got bad feeling about this" is a quote from Star Wars, the fake show about "Goosey" is an easter egg to @gooeseyleo and her Gooseyleo series. When Leo goes onstage, he does "a few improvised dance moves", which is a nod to Ben Schwartz and some dance moves he did in the Netflix improv comedy special "Middleditch and Schwartz”. The Lou Jitsu play the boys perform is a parody of the Godzilla franchise and the Pacific Rim films. Donnie's line "I strive for accuracy" is a reference to @sleepis4theweak 's comic (which I think about every gosh darn day), Horsebot-3000 and Splinter's line "I liked Horsebot-3000" are references to the show Community, season 3 episode 7: "Studies in Modern Movement".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 7, in the illustration Leo and Donnie are wearing Transformer and Decepticon t-shirts, respectively, and in the background you can see spray paint that spells out "Atomic Lass", as well as a drawing of the turtles' weapons.
Chapter 8, a young BEBOP AND ROCKSTEADY make an appearance, as does a very young Harvey Hokum from the ROTTMNT comics. When Bebop tries to sell Leo, he calls him “Shelly”, a reference to my pet turtle of the same name. In the illustration you can see a goldfish on the shelf, which is meant to be Piebald.
Tumblr media
Chapter 9, How It's Made, APRIL O'NEIIIIILLLL, Harvey Hokum, Warren Stone and Kendra are referenced, "Operation Blue Suede Shoes" contains the title of a song, a reference to how in the show there are several similar code-names used for the characters ("Purple Rain" for Donnie, "Yellow Submarine" for April, etc.) Leo says that Mikey has empathy amplified, a reference to the fanfiction of the same name written by @filsa-mek on AO3.
Chapter 10, the boys watch "Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit". Leo promises to never leave Raphael alone and to always find him. Raph offers several scenarios that actually happen in the future where Leo searches for Raph - sewer monsters (a reference to the episode Man Vs. Sewer), getting captured by bad guys (the episode Bug Busters), and aliens attacking (the events of the film). The chapter as a whole is also based off of a few sketches I made - one of which shows the boys watching the film with Splinter, and one where Raph has a bad dream and wakes up to seeing he hurt Leo, who offers to help and gets the bros together for a turtle pile.
Chapter 11, the episode is heavily inspired by an episode of the audio drama series Adventures in Odyssey, specifically the episode "Mandy's Debut". The line "Wow, the shortcake of death" is a reference taken from said same episode! During Leo's flashback, a reference to the meme "She knocked that smug look off my face, but fourtunately I had a smaller smug look underneath" when Leo takes off his sunglasses to reveal a cooler pair of sunglasses underneath. Leo and Raph make a note to the fact that Leo is not the eldest in this universe.
Chapter 12, Raph, Leo, and Mikey teach April a game they play in the episode "Late Fee". When using sign language, Donnie tells Leo to "Stop yelling at me", which is inspired by a moment in Spy Kids 4. April introduces Raph to Ghostbear's starting career. Mikey repeats a line from the episode "Bug Busters", which is "Remind me not to ask questions anymore." Mikey uses the phrase "hydrate or die-drate", which is taken from a meme but is also something I say constantly as well. When in the Hidden City, Splinter hears people calling out to customers, one uses the lyrics to the Fairly Odd Parents' theme song, another is selling Mary Poppins' umbrella, a third is selling the three mystery journals from Gravity Falls, the fourth is selling Cinderella's glass slippers, and the last one is selling the Stanley Parable bucket of reassurance. Ochimizu is a Japanese mythical elixir of eternal life. The introduction and origins of Loathsome Leonard and the Mud Dogs. Malicious Mickey uses the "creepy doctor" line from "Stuck on You".
Tumblr media
Chapter 13, Donnie delirium is directly based off of my own experiences with delirium, as well as his and Leo's conversation about whether or not Leo would miss him when he dies (which was an actual conversation I had with my mother when I was sick with croup as a little girl). The second half of that conversation was adapted from a scrapped fic called "The Kids Are All Dying". Donnie references the song "Big Yellow Taxi". The seven-tailed fox comes from Japanese folklore, but specifically this one was a reference to Naruto! Mikey sings the first line of the "Wonderfilled" song by Owl City. The secret ingredient being a discontinued soda was inspired by the ending of the musical "Be More Chill". The toad yokai becomes Heinous Green.
Short story, in the illustration you can see several signatures and sketches on Leo's cast, such as Raph signing "Mad Dawgs" and Mikey drawing his stickers. On the wall behind Leo is an eye exam that has the words "RISE" and "PHOEBE" on it. There's also a computer monitor in the back with Leo's vitals on it, as well as a notification about the trackers, and a list of all Hamatos Donnie tagged.
Tumblr media
I will update more when I post new chapters... ;)

the corporate pseudo-monopoly Wizards Of The Coast has over the tabletop rpg hobby is like if very few people even knew movies not made by disney existed. It’s like if you could walk into a room full of cool interesting people who actively seek out and enjoy indie music and literature and comics, and they call all movies “disneys” because they don’t know that other movies exist. It’s not that they don’t like other movies, or that they’ve decided not to watch other movies, they’ve never even imagined that other movies exist. They don’t know about The Princess Bride or Blade Runner or The Godfather or Wong Kar-Wai or Guillermo Del Toro, they’ve never heard of Akira Kurosawa or Lauren Bacall or Studio Ghibli or David Cronenburg. You reference 2001: A Space Odyssey and they go, “Is that like Guardians Of The Galaxy? Is that like Lilo and Stitch?” That is the cultural monopoly WOTC has over tabletop gaming, that’s what it’s like.

Looks like even a pacifist has a breaking point. As the saying goes, fear the anger of a gentle man. And there's nothing wrong in proving your strength, as long as it's understood on both sides as merely a trial. Too bad the harsh enviroment of Deepnest isn't as welcoming to those on a quest to avoid killing and being killed. Or being eaten, for that matter. Woo!!! We finally reached my favorite page. There is a reason why I made a Lilo & Stitch meme for this comic before - and that's because of this page, which is pretty much one big reference to the second Lilo & Stitch movie. This was also the page that underwent ZERO rewrites, because in all honesty, I do not think I can top the rawness of the line "Go back to your nest and let your mommy feed you". Good job, me from three years ago.
Next Previous First
The comic will be updated every two weeks here, but if you wanna read ahead, the majority of the pages have already been uploaded to my Deviantart. Which is why you’ll see “BlueCatDeviantart” in credits for every page. Because the comic was never meant for Tumblr, and yet here we are.
Undertale belongs to Toby Fox, Hollow Knight belongs to Team Cherry Sketch, lineart and story by me, coloring by Mapoleon

✨ After coming home from work, I got to sketching at my desk. These new sketches I did of Wendy Darling from Disney’s “Peter Pan” are my interpretations of original rough animation drawings by Milt Kahl, Hal Ambro, and Don Lusk, who were some of Wendy’s chief animators when “Peter Pan” was in animation production. Milt Kahl had hoped to be assigned to animate Captain Hook; however, Walt Disney, keenly aware of Kahl’s top notch draftsmanship, assigned him to animate both Peter Pan and Wendy. This was among the assignments he didn’t really enjoy, but still in his drawings sketches of Wendy, Milt Kahl did an excellent job interpreting live action reference footage of actress Kathryn Beaumont, the voice of Wendy. Though he wasn’t afraid to tackle realism as an animator, it wasn’t as much as as animating eccentric or comical characters. For me, whether I draw or sketch another young character like Christopher Robin from “Winnie the Pooh”, Mowgli from “Jungle Book” or Lilo from “Lilo & Stitch”, I remind myself that it is important to stay true to the body language and anatomy of a young boy or a young girl. As far as animation is concerned, humans are more challenging to animate because we see people of different ages and body types every day. ✨✨

Hang on a minute, I just read through the Faverolle & Madamouselle reference document, and I might be crazy, but there was a comic in there that Plagg came back cursed after the magic-rules-rewrite and made friends with Brie. Is there an eventual Black Cat!Brie in that au?!
(With how Brie is a fan of her timeline’s LB and CN, she might try and help Nyx regain her sanity, but I’m a Bunnyx fan, so that may just be wishful thinking. I just think the two original-timeline-miraculous holders interacting would be cool)
(At this point I’m just making an au of an au in my head. lol)
I did a Lilo and Stitch redraw with them a few times using the variants of characters from Fav & Mads!
I think they would be fun together, a chaotic little duo- but I'm afraid they can't be canon, as much as I want them to be!
and Nyx.. idk how far I want to take Nyx. I think her fate being absolute is fitting for the kind of person she is- who's insistent that her timeline is the "correct" one, so she's always in a loop of trying to destroy AU and abnormalities.
But, like you said, that's what AUs are for!

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
I've taken my time with this one, beause it's quite a big question, lol
I'm someone who moves on pretty quickly when it comes to interests, and nowadays I don't even watch/read stuff more than once. But here's the list (not in any specific order):
1.) Stitch from Lilo and Stitch
Tumblr media
Lilo and Stitch was one of the first films I ever saw in cinemas as a kid, and it still makes me sob to this day. Just! Stitch! In the woods! With the Ugly Duckling book! And he repeats it and looks around because he's got no family!
There's so much love and thought put into how he moves (see gif - the head tilt - the eyes! He's baby!) that shows his thought process and emotions. His arc is complimentary to Lilo's and it's my favourite film. Plus, he's cute and fluffy!
2.) Myka Bering from Warehouse 13
Tumblr media
This space was a toss up between Claudia and Myka from this show. As an 11-13 year old watching this show for the first time, I had the biggest crush on Claudia, but I loved Myka too. And rewatching it now, I love her more.
Warehouse 13 revolves around a bunch of agents tracking down 'artefacts': objects that usually kill people in horrific ways, but sometimes have benefits. (A great episode is Shakespeare's lost folio: touching a page with doom you to die the death of the character depicted, unless you can say that character's final lines.) Myka's come from the secret service and is the more pragmatic one compared to partner Pete's comic relief and pop culture references. (I love Pete too, though!) Myka's also a nerd! A classics nerd! (Middle name Ophelia!) She loves H.G Wells (me too!) - and H.G Wells is in this show (see gif) as a very cool woman who Myka's more than a little in love with. (Me too! Sadly it's all subtext because this shows 10 years old now.) She's capable and cool but has a softer, human side that's allowed to come to light as much as her partner's. They take turns being vulnerable with each other and it's what makes these characters feel real.
She also has the line: "some girls play with barbies, others take fencing lessons." which! come on! It's so good!
3.) Baron from The Cat Returns
Tumblr media
He's voiced by Cary Elwes (Westley from the Princess Bride), which makes him instantly cool! And, honestly, he's basically Westley; he's suave, sneaks into places with disguises, and is a master of swordplay. (Maybe I just like characters with swords?)
The Cat Returns is my favourite Studio Ghibli movie, because it's so similar to the Nutcracker, which is a favourite of mine too. The ball scene still makes me feel like a teen with a crush; there's a romanticism to it all that comes from how suave Baron is. His minature world is charming too!
4.) Nancy Thompson from Nightmare on Elm Street
Tumblr media
Nancy's my favourite final girl. There's a great interview were they talk about how determined she is; she will find the truth, and she won't stop hunting for it. She takes active measures to ensure she can investigate and wake up in time. I don't have many points on this one: I just think she's neat!
5.) Sora from Kingdom Hearts
Tumblr media
Again, I'm torn between two characters from the franchise - Sora and Roxas. But I played Kingdom Hearts 2 first, and that has more of Sora!
The whole series has a lot of nostalgia for me, and Sora's the heart of that. He's the player's world into exploring all these Disney worlds. I actually love the twist that Sora's not really meant to have a keyblade at all; Riku's the one who was meant to be. It's a cool reverse chosen one. Recently, it's more interesting to see how Sora's relentless optimism is being chipped away at. He feels like a very generic protagonist who's being subverted in a very clever way.
6.) Peter Pan, in like, a vague sense
Tumblr media
No particular version of Peter, because I'll devour any Peter Pan retelling. A straight, fun disney version is heart-warming and escapist; Syfy's Neverland was like a magical Oliver Twist, with all the emotional beats; darker ones explore the strange, darker (unintentional) subtext of the novel. (Which I do love; it's just so memorable.) All of the Peters, please!
(I vividly remember seeing a Peter Pan panto and Peter was played by a young woman and oh boy! Finding out girls can play boys was a big moment for me!)
7.) Cinderella...from Cinderella
Tumblr media
I could easily do top 10 Disney characters, but this is the last one for this list. And again, it's more about what Cindie represents. She keeps her kindness and her empathy throughout her story; she works hard and makes sacrifices and that earns her happily ever after. I think that manta of 'Have Courage and be Kind' in the live action one is a great phrase to live by, and easily applied to real life. I've worked two jobs throughout my masters, so the idea of hard work being rewarded someday is comforting. I hope it's true, lol.
8.) Tails from Sonic
Tumblr media
He's just real neat! A good little guy! He can fly and he's super smart! I always mained him on Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, and I've liked him since I was a kid. (I really struggled to fill this space, so runners up were Zuko, Nico Di Angelo, Vanitas and Link.)
9/10.) Ash Lynx and Eiji Okumura from Banana Fish
Tumblr media
I can't separate the boys! They go together!
Honestly, this shouldn't be a surprise, lol. Oddly, though, it's hard to answer a question of why they're so dear to me. Ash is a very interesting character to unpack; and unpacking those darker elements of his story is? Intriguing? I think is the best word for it. That depth comes across in the manga and is probably what made it endure.
Eiji has a similar depth that I feel like gets washed away a bit, by the fandom. He's 'normal,' but he's not, really. He's exceptionally compassionate, and just as impulsive as Ash. (He is all in within meeting this boy for ten minutes.)
And it's their implied relationship in the series that is just! So! Much! The trust and care and the fact that they do act like two teenage boys messing around with each other. (Which is something I don't think either of them got to have.)
Honestly, I've been writing the both of them for so long that they do feel like a part of me, now, even though they're not my characters.
And that's ten! Thanks so so much for the ask! I love getting to waffle nonsense to a captive audience! Sorry it took so long to answer! <3 xxx

STATS TIME Again: More Not-Sequel Animated Movie Openings 1988-2002
I did a post on not-sequel animated movie openings over the years, that went from 2003 to now, to show the rise and decline in opening weekend numbers for these kinds of movies over the years. This was to provide some context on today's not-so-great animated movie openings...
So, I decided to compile another list of not-sequel animated movies over the years, domestically. This list will include:
Truly original animated movies.
Book/comic/game/etc. adaptations.
Adaptations that aren't part of any previous visual/motion picture iteration.
Films based on animated TV shows. Technically a sequel of sorts to the show, whatever season it was on, but still.
Re-releases of classic films.
Every couple of years, I'll cut off at certain numbers, so as not to include a ton of movies on the list and jam things up. Refer to the previous post on the reasoning for this.

Hey, regarding the Rumbelle comic you just reblogged. You said it didn't make sense to you. Would it help if I told you it's a reference to the 2002 movie Lilo and Stitch? Or do you know that and still think it's weird? Just trying to help ease the confusion if I can!
Oh no, I know what it’s a reference from. I love Lilo and Stitch, I watched it all the time as a kid! It’s just still just a very weird comic to me in general.
Thinking about it from a Lilo and Stitch pov it makes perfect sense, but If you’re thinking from it from a Ouat pov it’s completely bizarre. Like why is Belle dressed like that? Why is Jefferson naked, asleep in a bed? Why is Rumple all Dark-One in an otherwise modern environment?
But I think my most important question is; Why?! Why and how? Why does it exist? How did the idea to make it come about? They seem like two completely random things to mash together to me.
But it’s that weirdness that makes me love it and I’m very happy it exists and gives my brain the happy-chemicals from time to time, so I suppose I can’t really complain, lmao.

Can’t believe I’ve never noticed this before
Alfred: Master Bruce! Open the door, Master Bruce!
Bruce: Go away
Alfred: Master Bruce! We don’t have time for this!
Bruce: Leave me alone to die
...
Alfred: I’m gonna stuff you in a blender, push puree, bake you into a pie and then feed it to the social worker!! And when he says “Mmm, this is great, what’s your secret?” I’m gonna say - !! *gasp* Love! And nurturing!
...
Bruce: Did you ever kill anyone?
Jim:
Jim: We’re getting off the subject
...
Bruce: My friends need to be punished
...
Bruce: I hit Richard Price today
Alfred: You hit him??
Bruce: Before I bit him
Alfred: You bit him

((The Lilo and Stitch movie plays out))
“What must it be like to have nothing....not even memories to visit, in the middle of the night??”
