-I can't bear to see Father cry.-

Princess Imani may be deceased, but her spirit is as perky as she was in life. It's not as bad as it seems. Mother and brother are there, and there's not a moment of solitude with them by her side.

What hurts the most is towards the living – their father and husband Azir, captured by a hateful enemy and put in constant pain, day by day, night by night. He cannot know they're there – he's not a psychic – but they feel every drop of his anguish.

-Don't look, sister.- prince Ibrahim would ofter whisper to her, as he pulls her to his chest. They spend their time atop the cave where Azir lingers, lounging and cuddling as brother and sister would do. Sometimes they spend time next to their father, but it's not a pleasant watch. Azir has no comfort, no pleasure, no consolation, and he spends almost every night in tears.

Queen Zeina spends her time by his side the most, preferring to send her children to distract themselves elsewhere and avoid the miserable display. She, however, never once leaves his side. He wasn't the best husband, his womanizing and secretive behavior not being a welcome trait, but he tried. He wanted to love and be loved.

He'd been suffering since way before. Maybe nobody truly ever loved him. But there was a charm to him, a sweetness, a desire to do good that not many nobles have.

And now he pays for what he was unable to do.

Xerath was a gentle, helpful man in their old days, whose pain wasn't clear even to his supposed best friend. For his suffering, Shurima itself deserved to pay – but all of Shurima, not just their poor father.

We could have done so much more to make the world a better place for us all. Father was a fool, but we all could have helped him. Perhaps Shurima was meant to fall.

Yet now it all, once again, comes down to Azir. They've spent the whole year by his side, as he poured his sweat and held himself together.

Don't cry, father. The temple is done. Soon you'll see Nasus, and our half-sister, and all the people who will help you.

Zeina, Ibrahim and Imani shuffle towards the cave, unseen, non-presences, and watch as their chained, hooded, plucked and prostrated father bows onto Xerath's lap and lets him speak. As Xerath tells him he can leave, he can go, he hasn't been humbled – you wretch, prince Ibrahim thinks, he's as humble as he can be, you just find joy in tormenting our poor father – but the temple is finished and his word was given.

As Xerath knocks him down with an electric charge, clips and sows his hood onto his head, chains his body from the neck to the legs, locks the spiked belt he often used to punish him around his waist, and has him lifted into a thick stone coffin that is sealed around him, an eternal prison.

-NO!- Imani's face is dripping with tears, and even Ibrahim can't hold his own back. Zeina remains firm, as befits a noble woman, but she holds her children tighter, seething in rage. -YOU PROMISED!- the child screams. -YOU'RE A LIAR!-

-Goodbye, Azir. Have bad dreams and humble yourself at last, underneath us all – for you'll never leave.-

-Curse you, Xerath,- Zeina hisses. Now she too weeps onto her children's head. She can't be strong for an eternal un-life. She always had Azir to confide to; for that, he was reliable. Soft. Warm. Safe. He tried.

-Mother, please.- Imani buries her face in her mother's breasts. The hole containing the sealed coffin is being covered. Azir probably hasn't woken up yet. But he will, and...

-We can't help him, can we?- Ibrahim asks. Zeina, head bowed, says no.

-But he'll be so afraid,- Imani whispers. She's tired, after having wept for so long. -And that belt is so tight. Mother...-

-We'll be ok, dearest children. Come to me. We'll be alright.-

-But father...-

And a sudden shout of pain topples all of them over – Azir has woken up.

fanfic/fandom ettiquite guide

Okay, I've seen some things recently that make me think there is some need to make a master post of some general fandom and fic ettiquite just because some people may not know and I think there's a huge wave of fanfic becoming more mainstream especially on apps like tiktok.

If you don't like it, don't engage with it!! I think this above all, is the golden rule of fandom. The internet is made for you to be able to mute, hide, and censor things you don't like. DO THAT! don't make a career off of hating things. This goes along with the three laws of fandom, which u should check out FIRST OF ALL.

DON'T GATEKEEP!! If you're posting about a fic, art, ANYTHING link it, credit it! Don't post a tiktok about a fic and then refuse to give the name. Not only are you failing to credit the creators of this content, but you're taking away from the fact that fandom is a COMMUNITY where content is meant for everyone.

Ao3 is an archive. You're going to see things you might not like or even find offensive or uncomfortable. But fanfic is not meant to be censored. Ao3 is made to be unfiltered, people can post anything and everything. Posting fics on other sites simply to shame their content not only brings MORE attention to it, but it's pointless. If you want a website that is censored go to wattpad. And of course, if you don't like it DON'T READ. You can filter your tags and warnings on ao3 so it won't show you that content.

Along those lines LEARN HOW TO USE AO3. There is no algorithm, it is not tiktok. You don't need to censor words in your tags. Your fics are not magically getting pushed out to people. Make sure you're using "person 1/person 2" for romantic relationships and "person 1 & person 2" for non-romantic relationships. Make sure things like non-con and underage are tagged under the warnings. AND AS A READER, know how to filter ships and tags to find the content you want. You can filter by kudos, certain tags, exclude certain relationships or characters etc. USE IT.

Do not create placeholder fics or other "non fics" on ao3. This is against their terms of service. You can (and probably will) be reported, this annoys people endlessly. We don't want to find a fic and open it to see "I haven't written this yet, sorry!" JUST SAVE A DRAFT OR DO IT IN A DOCUMENT? this seems like way to rack up hits, and it comes across as disingenuous, I don't see a real valid reason to make placeholders.

HOW TO WRITE AN ACCEPTABLE COMMENT: long is not important. A simple "loved this!" will make an author happy. DO NOT say any variation of "update pls?" regardless of how nice you think it is. Authors update when they can.I'm not the only author I've seen unhappy with this. JUST WAIT, either it will be updated or it won't, and either way you will live. If you have nothing nice to say about a fic?? MOVE ON. Don't leave a hate comment.

Do not rate or publicly shit on fanfic! A lot of authors know many people, and the chances of that author seeing whatever you're saying about their work is very high. If you don't like it, click off and read something else. If it's still living rent-free in your mind, that sounds like fan behavior to me. And there is no standard fics are supposed to meet, don't rate them.

Don't cross-post fics. Don't put fics on other sites, don't put translation on other sites. DON'T DO ANYTHING with a fic without checking with the author first. On that note, also don't post fics on GoodReads etc. unless an author explicitly says it's okay.

IF YOU DO NOT MARK YOUR BOOKMARKS AS PRIVATE AUTHORS CAN SEE THEM!! If you're going to say anything that isn't positive, you better mark that as private or better yet, move on. Don't say anything on a public bookmark you wouldn't want the author to read.

YOU CANNOT PROFIT OFF OF FANFIC, don't sell bound fics! Don't bind fics if the intention is to sell them. You're potentially creating a lawsuit for the authors of these fics and putting the existence of fanfic in danger. I've seen multiple authors debating taking fics down because of binding issues, just don't do it. AND IF YOU'RE BUYING BOUND FICS YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM. it's selfish and I wish bad karma upon you.

You wouldn't think I'd have to say this but don't plagiarize or use AI to create fics/art etc. firstly making ai write something IS a form of plagiarism. bUT ALSO just write your own content. If you can't, then writing fics etc. is just not for you. No shame about it!

DON'T ASK AUTHORS TO BETA FOR YOU!! You wouldn't believe how many people have asked me to beta their fics for them, I AM NOT A BETA. I HAVE a beta because my proofreading skills are shit. If someone wants to beta they will offer, or go find a blog or somewhere where people are looking to beta. Like @needabeta You can even make a post asking around for a beta, but don't go bug your favorite authors to proofread your fics.

Really just don't harass authors. Of course, don't be afraid to send nice dms, asks, or comments if their inbox is open, but don't spam them especially if they don't reply. Respect boundaries! Don't send nasty anons, everyone knows this is a sign of jealousy and obsession. You're only succeeding in making yourself look bad. Ask yourself why is this author living rent-free in your mind, hm??

If you don't like a ship, stay away from the content geared towards that ship. There's no reason for you to be in people's inbox harassing them over a ship. It's never that deep. If you truly hate it so much, go consume the content for ships you DO like.

Stay grounded. This goes to both fic authors and readers alike. Hits and popularity are not the mark of a good fic. Getting a lot of hits doesn't mean it's good and NOT getting many doesn't mean it's bad. I'm tired of seeing tiktoks asking "so what's the next big fic?" WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE A "BIG FIC"? go look through the ao3 tag and find something you like to read, it doesn't have to be what everyone else is reading.

Headcanons are not law. People can think whatever they want about the characters. If you disagree with someone's hc, just move on... and just because a headcanon is popular, doesn't mean everyone has to abide by it. Be creative!

Don't treat artists and authors like celebs! We're all in this together! We're all losers who like the same characters and ships. Of course, compliment and be kind to all creators because we put a lot of time and effort into creating fan content for you all, but don't worship anyone. Don't treat them weirdly or make a post like "omg x followed me!" that's a bit weird. If you want to be excited, dm your friends and giggle together, but acting like authors and artists etc. are celebs only creates the room for people to stop seeing them as normal people and start acting rude or entitled. And many people are uncomfortable with it!!

TLDR; stop creating so much negativity in fandom spaces. At least in MY fandom it's just constantly shitting on ships, fics, art. It's hate anons, antis, and constant fighting about every headcanon. I'M TIRED OF IT! Learn to filter out content you don't want to see, and move on with your life instead of spreading more negativity.

The "Teacher is Teruko's Brother" Theory

(Before we properly start, I think I should say that I am using @xmicrophonyx's names when talking about the Alt-DRDT characters. I probably didn't have to say that because Teacher's name makes it the most obvious who he is, but just thought I'd get it out of the way) (Also, everyone seems to be using the tag #AltDRDT for talk about this new cast, so that is what I will be using as a placeholder name for the fangan until we get the actual name. I hope this won't be too confusing !! - From the day the Alt-DRDT cast was released, people have been theorizing that certain members of the cast might be siblings to the main DRDT cast. The most prominent one I see is that Scale might be Charles' dead older brother Elliot, which I do think has a bit more weight to it (see my previous post on Alt-DRDT for that) but I am on the fence of believing. A few of my discord friends theorized that Min and XF could be siblings due to their similar eye color, which I don't believe at all due to what we know of Min's homelife and what led to her encountering XF-Ture-Tech in the first place (though those two undoubtably have beef and I am so excited to see it) However, there is one sibling theory that I think has a massive chance to actually be canon in the DRDTverse, one that I've seen around a couple of times... ...Why the fuck am I trying to build suspense, you read the title. I think that Teacher is the brother that Teruko mentions in CH1-4.

I think this has a lot more evidence surrounding it then the other sibling theories I've seen. So take a seat and let me explain why ! I mean duh that's what this post is about - In this post, I want to talk about their designs and how they contrast each other

graphic design is my passion /joke /ref So there are already three, count-em three! Things that I think are very important For one, Teruko and Teacher basically have the exact same skin color.

Teruko

Teacher Other than the very very tiny difference in hue that you could basically only see if you squint, I think it's safe to say they have the exact same skin color. > "But Haru, you incredibly pretty sun demon ! Skin color isn't enough to consider someone related !" Firstly, thank you for calling me pretty :D. And second of all, I am aware. But in conjunction with my next point I think you will see why I decided to mention this first. Which leads me to my next point, and one that I've seen talked about quite a lot already: In all of the art currently out of Teacher, his eyes are closed. There's obviously his full-body which I just showed, but even in unrelated art, his eyes are shut

Eyes completely sealed. Now, I don't think it's a stretch to say that DRDT-Dev really likes eyes, specifically hiding things related to a character in their eyes. And eyes in general have shown to be a very useful plot point on multiple occasions So the fact that Teacher's eyes are always closed definitely brings some attention, and part of me highly doubts it is just a design choice. There is a reason why Teacher's eyes have not been shown to us. Perhaps...sharing an eye color with someone? And with the first point acquired of Teacher and Teruko sharing skin colors, I don't think it's a stretch to say Teacher might be sharing Teruko's eye color as well. Now I will admit, that is mostly speculation. However there is undoubtably a reason as for why Teacher's eyes aren't shown, and with the added fact of the two sharing skin colors. It's definitely a likely possibility. - Now for my third point in relation to designs, which is the color schemes of both Teruko and Teacher

For starters, their color schemes are actually not that different from each other when you really look at them, both comprising mostly of neutrals (white, black, brown, and grey) with one particularly popping color. And it's that color in particular that I want to talk about Teruko's color is green, meanwhile Teacher's color is red. And I bring this up for two reasons Firstly, green and red are the most well-known complimentary colors, and considering Fire and Ice (two characters that are speculated and basically confirmed siblings) also have main colors across the color wheel from each other, I find that decision to be very interesting But I didn't just mention this to nerd out about color theory...okay I kinda did but that's not the only reason I mentioned color schemes. Because there is one more point I want to make, and it's one I'm honestly surprised no one has mentioned yet Teacher's color is red. Do you guys remember the QNA? Specifically, do you remember the favorite colors question and what Teruko's answer was?

Red. Reasoning: association. I think that in of itself is very revealing, but the extra information that red is Teruko's favorite color because of association is really the icing on the cake. > But Haru ! We haven't seen a design of Teacher from back then ! You can't be sure that that would be the reason for Teruko's favorite color ! True, but at the same time if we take this in consideration with the other two pieces of evidence, I highly doubt that this could be a coincidence. If Teacher really is Teruko's brother, then him being the association she has with the color red makes a lot of sense, especially considering red is literally the only non-neutral color in Teacher's design, and as such it sticks out like a sore thumb in combination with the rest of his design (in a good way). So yes, I do think this is intentional, and it works very well considering the other two pieces of evidence. And with all three combined, I think there's no denying that Teacher being Teruko's brother is a very, VERY likely possibility.

Okay, so, if there's no reliable information on whether DID can be developed in adulthood, is there any info on OSDD developing in adulthood?

I can't even find reliable information that shows OSDD (specifically, the variant that's sometimes called OSDD-1b with distinct alters and no amnesia) requires trauma.

People say all the time that dissociative identity disorder is under-researched. And when I say people, I mean the psychiatrists who actually specialize in researching it are the ones saying this.

But if DID is under-researched... the research into OSDD is a black hole.

OSDD isn't really treated like its own disorder so nobody is willing to research it.

DID specialists tend to just treat OSDD-1 like it's exactly the same as DID. DID has a high association with trauma, therefore it's assumed that so to must OSDD. But this assumption hasn't been backed up by empirical evidence as far as I've been able to tell.

Adding to the confusion is that while you'll find a few studies that actually do include DDNOS-1, the name OSDD-1 used to be called before the DSM-5, a lot of those were during a period where DDNOS was given as a placeholder. Back then, a therapist couldn't give a DID diagnosis unless they saw a switch, so they would give DDNOS instead.

Many of these people in those studies back then ended up getting upgraded to a full diagnosis of DID within a year.

In other words, a lot of studies that look like they're into DDNOS patients are actually into DID patients who couldn't get diagnosed yet on a technicality that no longer exists.

Sorry.

I've spent enough time researching OSDD to be pretty sure that the research you're wanting probably hasn't ever been conducted. I'm not a living Google Scholar, so I won't say for certain it's not somewhere out there. But if it is, I haven't been able to find it.

Instead of you spending countless joyful hours trawling the web for grainy old '70s flicks, I did it for you! Here's a list of FREE places to watch DJ's stuff.

This list will be in reverse chronological order as they appear on IMDb. Some are just placeholders until (if) better links can be found, and some are bootlegs from other countries. I'm excluding music videos since those aren't hard to find.

And if you want to skip boring/annoying plot but don't want to miss him, I've made a key:

MC (main character) - much of the story involves his character and he is onscreen often

SC (side character) - only part of the story involves his character, so he's onscreen far less often than other characters

C (cameo) - he's got one or two scenes and they're small, in which case I'll mark his appearances in 0:00:00 format

I'm leaving most content warnings to viewer discretion, but some I don't feel comfortable ignoring. Also, some of the YouTube vids may get taken down at any moment :( If you like something, back it up! I'm using KMPlayer to download my faves, but I've heard you can also use VLC.

I'm eventually going to put at least Seasons (and its side stories) back on AO3. I want it to remain free-to-read. First, though, I have to get through this Geckos edit and self-publish that. Once that's finished, I have some other stories I want to tackle and rewrite - some will be published in ebook/paperback format - but I do want to tackle my edits for Seasons and its side stories over time. I've already added new chapters, so the main story of Seasons will likely be reposted entirely. I'm also on the fence about renaming it. I know "Seasons" matches well enough, but I can't help but wish the name didn't seem like a lazy placeholder. (And it sort of was, it just... fit. Really well.) I can't predict when this reposting will occur, is what I'm saying. I just ask people to be patient with me. As for other stories I don't think can be self-published due to the content, I'm not sure. I'm wondering if I can self-publish some of it. Yes, that means a paywall for my writing. But... I also need to learn that I'm allowed to live, allowed to make money for my work, etc. Not on fanfiction. All that is free. I just probably won't post any for a good long while, and tbh, the two Xillia fics and two FFXV fics I want to finish, I'm probably going to rewrite most of the chapters and heavily edit the rest. Don't know where that might lead to reposting on AO3 or if I will swap out chapters with fixed ones. Depends on if I end up adding chapters, bc that gets messy fast with subs already thinking they read chapters x-y. (tbh I avoid one of those fandoms religiously and haven't met a person in it who hasn't been hurt by its drama, so I really hate posting any writing I make for it. And yes, I do still write for it, I still love my OTP.)

To be fair, those were placeholder names initially. But they stuck like glue. Yes, I pulled an "Asriel", it probably won't be the last.

28. Have you ever tagged a fic “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat”?

No, I haven't. The closest I got was Downpour where I said in the note at the beginning 'Please heed "Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings."' I think it's fun that the Dead Dove tag is named after a meme, but I don't think it's super clear what it means, and given how much discourse I've seen about people misusing or misunderstanding it... I also understand why it exists, but similar to "don't like, don't read" it feels unnecessary to me. If a fic is tagged correctly, it shouldn't need a warning that yes, the author really means it. I don't mind other people using Dead Dove or similar, but I usually choose not to. I have a couple of WIPs where it could apply, and when I post those I won't tag them Dead Dove but I will put a reminder in the notes, like I did with Downpour. I might use Dead Dove on a reclist or a promo post, but I won't tag a fic with it.

29. Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic. (If you don’t have either, just share a random fic idea you have that you don’t plan on getting to.)

This is only one cut line but it's the one thing I desperately want to share, so I'll give you the line and some context about the idea. I cut a line from Downpour. The published version is this:

“It’s not your fault, BJ,” Colonel Potter said gently. “It isn’t anyone’s fault.” “There’s—paperwork,” Margaret choked out. “People that have to be notified. Radar—”

But for a while in the writing process, it went like this:

("Said" is a placeholder here, because I never decided exactly what dialogue tag I would use; there probably would have been an adverb.)

The idea behind this is that Margaret is horrified by what happened and blames everyone, including herself, for letting Hawkeye work too hard. Mostly I just heard the line in her voice and really liked it. The reason I cut it is that I thought it would be too cruel for her to say that in that moment, especially in front of BJ, and that she wouldn't do it. Unfortunately, the fic only covers that moment and is strictly from BJ's perspective, so there was no opportunity for her to say it later.

In my head, she does say it later, in one context or another. Maybe a staff meeting, maybe over a drink with Potter. I will never, ever write a sequel to Downpour, because it would defeat the entire point of what I was trying to do. There is no emotional resolution, no catharsis, because that's the point. The reader is left to wonder and guess at how BJ or any of the others deal with what happened. But just because I'm not writing it doesn't mean I haven't thought about it, and one of the things I thought about was Margaret becoming obsessive about shift changes and making sure everyone takes breaks. Of course she accomplishes this by overworking herself.

I'm still kind of sad I didn't get to use the line, but that's what "kill your darlings" means! It didn't serve the overall project so it had to go.

// Hey, this is another pkmn irl blog run by @swadloom, I also run @silver-crowned-riders (Antares doesn't have any in-character connection to those characters or the region). I don't have a design for Antares yet so I'm just using Acerola as a comparison point for now.

I set this in Unova because I like it but it's been a long time since I played Gen 5 and I'm probably gonna mess up some details here and there. I also don't know if Team Rocket in Unova is 100% canon compliant but I'm rolling with it for the purpose of this blog.

WIP - Bathhouse - 二天 & 天

Yesterday I worked on the upper floors of the Bathhouse from Spirited Away.

When I build, I like to do the interior and exterior side by side. It helps me maintain the flow of the interior and the visual of the exterior, especially in a build like this where the two may not actually. Yesterday I mostly worked on the interior.

Due to the nature of this build, it contains spoilers for the movie Spirited Away and images of emotional moments. Because of this, and how long this post is, I've added the keep reading.

On the way to 天, the elevator that Chihiro and the Radish Spirit take stops at 二天. Translated literally as Heaven and Second Heaven, the subs I watched called them Sky and Second Sky. My folders are named for the subs, but I really enjoy the imagery of these floors being called Heaven.

Either way.

The elevator door opens on 二天 to this long hall of shoji, back-lit to show patrons inside the rooms. I love this scene. It's only a few frames of the movie and is never mentioned again, but it has so much ambiance I needed it for my build.

Obviously a WIP, I was so excited to find a solution for the spandrels I could live with. The in-game options were sending me up a wall. These, and I'm calling them spandrels because I don't have a better word for them, are to me very specific in a few ways: 1) they're a dark wood tone, 2) they have small, vertical slits that allow light though and 3) they come down to the top of the shoji.

I had a couple options for spandrels that weren't solid, but they were either filled in with paper (SE) or were horizontal (CC).

So I made my own. They're not finalized because I have to fight with them a little bit still. The CC beams I'm using are best placed against a wall which I then delete, but this means they're slightly off center from the vertical lines on the wall as seen on the farther set. I can 'center' them by doubling up, as seen on the closer one, but that's not quite right. I could probably manage it with TOOL? For a WIP though, I'm thrilled. I'm also thrilled I could get the 4 shoji per beam right, and being able to paint the ceilings has made this so much better.

Looking at it right now, I can only see the little things I need to change - the floor needs to be rotated, and likely switched completely, and the shoji aren't quite right. There's a lack of shoes of the floor, the lights hang from the ceiling rather than being flush against them, and I haven't added the signage to the spandrels yet.

Still, I'm pleased with it so far. I can't have a never-ending hallway because the lot won't allow for it, but I can have this hall turn onto another and another, so that sims will have a long hall to walk though.

I also did some fun stuff in Yubaba's quarters on the 天 floor.

There's this scene in her office with plenty of light, including this shot of the fireplace from behind her desks:

So I worked on this:

The actual furniture is coming together nicely, but what I was really excited about was the fireplace. The scale of the painting and the molding around it are so close. I wish I had a wider fireplace that suited, but this one is marble with a rounded cavity and a green insert, my main feature requirements.

Obviously it needs the rugs, and I can mostly only see the little things that are wrong - the tallest walls are still too short and the room can never be big enough due to lot restrictions. The size and type of vase needs to be changed and the doorways want columns and tweaked curtains. But I am feeling mighty validated in my CC hoarding since I had multiple pink chairs with rolled arms, and even the quickly found placeholder pillows are working well. I always wonder if I really need all those recolors, and the answer is yes I do.

I also did some work in the hallway that leads to this room. We get this shot in the film:

The bright lighting on the walls isn't ideal, but I managed to get the pattern on the floor and the shadows casting from the alcoves onto it. I was also so excited that these columns came in a swatch with a green beam and a brown base.

Listing out all the CC in these WIPs would be impractical, especially since a fair amount of it is serving as a placeholder, but I'm happy to share any details about what I've used and plan on listing it out on more finalized spaces.

Thinking abt a longfic I never even finished bc I got tired of it and yet it became the inspiration for the best short story in my portfolio this last semester

You may recall my post abt placeholder names (and watch out bc sometimes they stick and become integral to the image/theme) but uh. Yeah so the placeholders were Xuanyu (Mo Xuanyu and A-Ying (Wei Wuxian) and mxy was the placeholder for the pov character and you won't believe what happened there

I swear to fUcking goD it wasn't entirely intentional but part of the story's image was crows, and the idea of being a crow or many crows at once, and LO AND BEHOLD I LEARN WHILE WRITING THIS SHIT THAT MO XUANYU'S GIVEN NAME MEANS DARK/MYSTERIOUS AND FEATHERS LIKE BRO WHAT. THE FUCK.

So then obviously I had to keep his character named Xuanyu and bc of course I need my themed names to match I had to figure out a new name for my second character (A-Ying) and lemme tell you when I say trying to find a name in a language you don't speak and making sure it's like. A reasonable name. Is so hard bc I know jackshit like I went back and forth forever through different naming websites ppl recommended for Chinese names that could be sorted by region and commonality etc until in the end I just stole a previous OC name again (even tho this OC literally only had a name bc I hadn't used them yet) and I still don't know if those names together are fucking weird like I ASSUME the names in mdzs are probably?? Sorta fantasy or at least historical??? They might not be or they might be a blend fuck if I know,, they're just character names to me ;w;

Doesn't matter now anyway bc that story is gonna rot on my hard drive probably and my professor was the only one who had to read it

Also anyway I uhhh love how unique circumstances that fall together by chance and coincidence so heavily influence my writing like damn isn't that neat

Nite & Daye Lore

Supernatural Part 2 - Demons

Strange creatures with mysterious motives and purpose.

More info under the cut

Note: While a majority of the lore mentioned here is accurate for any time/place in the universe, some things here pertain only to the events and story of Nite & Daye.

Demons may not be the final name of these creatures but is a reasonable enough placeholder.

General Information

Demons in this universe are related to the fauna of the world, the sud-types specified by their outer appearance as well as the type of animal they can call upon. Their true forms are also based upon the type of fauna group they are associated with.

Demons and angels are relatively mysterious existences, their sole purpose still very much unknown. However, if you ask a demon what it is they're meant to do they will respond with, "to give people what they want, what they desire". It is unknown whether they serve people directly or if essence itself speaks to them.

Demons (and angels too) have a different system of producing new demons. Unlike vampires, witches, and humans, the only time a new demon is created is when there is a vacancy in a role and it needs to be filled. For example, if a demon is in the role of Gecko and disappears, then a new demon will be created to take that place. A new demon can be created by turning a human into a demon or by another demon "birthing" a new demon.

Sub-types

The sub-types are pretty self-explanatory from their titles so I won't go into too much detail.

Mammalia

Identified by their black hair and deep red eyes, Mammalia demons are associated with mammals.

Mammalia is the most known of the demon sub-types. They often show up in political spaces more so than the other demons and are often seen as assistants of political figures. They're also seen with plenty of celebrities as well.

Despite being associated with warm-blooded animals, Mammalia is also notably a more apathetic existence who shows little to no emotion in any given situation.

Mammalia demons tend to be more individualists, "family" is not a concept embraced by many of them.

Insectum

Identified by their brown hair and rustic orange eyes, Insectum demons are associated with insects.

Often seen trudging around in the underworld rather than in the spotlight, Insectum demons are a little more known than the others although few truly know of their existence. They perform to work and live in the shadows more than anything else.

Insectum tend to be more passionate than the other demons and believe strongly in the unity of their specific kind. They tend to form groups, "colonies" if you will, where they rely upon each other to live day to day.

Reptilia

Identified by their red hair and soft purple eyes, Reptilia demons are associated with reptiles.

Probably the least known of all the demons. Very little is known of them other than their physical characteristics and their association.

Those who do know of them classify them as the more friendly demons. Though they are noted to be very distant from those outside of their specific kind, they are rarely known to cause harm. At least, not harm people have seen.

Ave

Identified by their blond hair and pale blue eyes, Ave demons are associated with birds.

It is actually believed that Ave demons are closely related to angels somehow. Although angels also vary in physical traits, since angels were believed to once have wings, some people even believe that Ave demons might just be angels from a bygone era.

Ave demons are especially aloof and have basically nothing to do with outsiders. Although they aren't very close with one another, they prefer each other's company to anyone not of their specific kind, let alone those who aren't demons.

Pretty well disliked by those who are aware of their existence.

have a to do list going currently, will copy/paste what's been done or in progress.

shade bb's base character art - did this, minus the eyebrows which i only realized after i started adding sprites to the vn sahdgsahg so i'm doing that now and spending the rest of the night overwriting the images i've already saved (okay. did that too)

finish all expressions - have all the components needed for expressions now as well as a good naming system for easy reference (instead of things like 'happy' 'sad' 'confused' etc cause some expressions i do not have names for. i don't wanna confuse myself lmao) - editing to add: an example of my naming system cause where "happy" & "happy grin" would be confusing for me... my version, being "bb_relaxed_j_dn_snsl_at" & "BBrelaxedJdnSNSLat" would be confusing for others. "ziemniak, relaxed pose, jacket, hood down, squint, neutral, smile, looking at you." in depth but easy for me to remember uwu

pose variation colouring and shading - got all the way to the shading but stopped after a bit to work on expressions, won't be long til i'm done

did some editing for prologue and chapter 1 - typos and a couple choices i forgot to add.

played with how i wanna add the characters into scenes and figured out what i want my "default" to be. will have to figure out what i want to do in certain scenes tho, but those scenes aren't even written yet so it's not a priority.

Entry 001 - 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

Synopsis

13 "kids" figure out what the fuck is going until finally, in the last 30 minutes, the power of love makes me - specifically the 2024 me - barf all over the place. My therapist will hear about this.

I always wanted to do something like this for the games I play, but I always told myself I would make a neocities or a blogspot or something for it; that won't happen so I'll just do it here instead of not doing it at all

How much did I know before playing?

I knew Time Shenanigans were involved, but other than that only that people really love it.

Did I like it more than I hated it?

I liked it much more than I hated it

Since I liked it, here's what I hated about it

I hated most of the Romance. Ruined the ending of a really cool game for me (jury is still out if i'm hyperbolic, for more on all of this check out the ramble section at the end) they should have cut most of it out - which would be easy because most of it only happens in the last 10% of the game.

(Exceptions are Okino & Takatoshi (even though i didn't like that taka was still 'no homo... right????' in the ending while enough time had passed for the others to have kids) and I think Ogata & Tomi worked too because, well, it was actually built towards throughout the game from both sides, crazy how that works).

Also it feels mean that Miwako (the queen) and Okino aren't playable characters. It's almost as if there's something different about those two specifically. Wonder what that might be.

...also the ending shit made me spiral hard about loneliness and romance, probably should be honest enough to mention that

Specific Impressions that will stick with me

The Sentinel Calling animations happening in every character's last scene is really cool. I love when there's an iconic but 'formulaic' thing that every character gets their own version of, like a Magical Girl Transformation. Always great.

Also I played around with having the characters read out the titles of their memories way too much to not mention it.

Also Also, a very specific Tomi scene that I will talk about further below is vividly stuck in my brain.

Outstanding Audio

LEUCINE, LYSINE, High Alert, Seaside Vacation

Honestly, the music in this game was fantastic. I never really heard people talk about specifically the ost before, but I guess people rarely talk about video game osts unless it's something on the iconicness of persona or they know the name behind who made it.

Favorite Character

Keitaro Miura is the Razumihin of our times. I also really liked Ei Sekigahara, but then that ending happened.

Also, of course, Tsukasa Okino is an Icon.

Favorite Arc/Story Line

A lot of them, but I will leave it at these two:

Yuki's detective story line

Favorite Set Piece

The Final Defense sequence is really cool. I actually wasn't sure if I made it or if this was just the game over screen lol

Favorite Scene

I remember a scene where Sentinel Miura tells Ei he knew all this time that something was going on because he's a bad liar, but that they're still friends despite what he did, but I couldn't find it on a quick look through the archive section.

But this scene had more chemistry than both of them had with their canon romantic partners and I will stand by that.

Best Performance

I didn't really pay much attention tbh, nobody really stood out - but I guess in a good way, I really liked all of the JP voice cast. The only thing I ever really thought out loud was "That's Saori Hayami."

--- ENTERING THE PRETENTIOUS SECTION OF THIS ENTRY ---

What about this game gives me Hope for the future of gaming?

I guess I always love when Japanese games demonstrate that they know Queer People exist.

What about this game makes me scared for the future of gaming?

You know how basically all Gamers hate Capitalism these days? Yeah, while that's definitely a net good, this is one of the very specific instances in which it's a bad thing.

I just want to play this game made by the same people again. Not a sequel, nothing that's related to this, but just another game that's mechanically exactly like this that's just another setting with another mystery to solve. Just put to use what you have learned doing this and make a game like this again.

Like, you don't have to do it forever, but you could do it again, just for me who really loved playing this game you made!!!

But we don't really get "easy" sequels these days anymore, because everything has to have a new take, a new mechanic - or else it's lazy and a "cash-grab". And that kind of sucks, because most of the time just doing something again will mean you know now what worked and what didn't.

The Ramble Section where I get to actually talk about what I thought about

Okay, so basically, I really liked how the game portrayed the idea of "You're not just your soul/your DNA, you're also made up by the actions and influences of everyone around you. If you 'lived again' you wouldn't become the same person, because your context would be different."

It's in the whole thing that for every name there are actually about three different characters that are all different people - but I think my favorite example is actually the whole Tomi x Ogata thing - which is why I think it's one of the few romances in this game that works.

There's a scene in her story where in her original Sector Tomi goes to look what happened to her home together with Ogata. That exact same scene, everything she says, also happens in Amiguchi's memories from the loop before - but instead of Ogata, Tetsuya Ida is there as her love interest. And that basically brings it to a point - Sure, who you are/your "DNA" matters - but it also matters who's there with you. And that's why she ends up with Ogata this time.

In one of Ei's scenes Okino also talks about how there is really no difference between him and an AI Nanomachine version of him that's exactly the same - we change all of the time so why would it matter where exactly our memories come from if all of it works the same?

And that's like almost the entire game. People realizing that the person they were and the person they are 'supposed to be' are different people from who they are. It really is demonstrated by the most important character of all - the 'current version' of Chihiro, Iori, is basically fully irrelevant to the plot of the game. And I think that's kind of cool? To argue that any kind of "DNA" could become any size of plot relevant depending on the circumstances. That all of these "same" people have developed their own self and all of theses selves and their decisions are equally as valuable despite not being "fated" to do one specific thing. (It's kind of nihilistic in a way - if nothing about you is specifically 'valuable', everything you end up doing is valuable the same amount)

But this is also exactly why most of the Romance in this game sucks ass. Either you have Miura x Minami or Yakushiji x Kurabe where they all of a sudden argue the exact opposite, where the only romantic development happens through past characters - characters whose whole deal especially in Kurabe's case is that THEY'RE NOT HIM. THAT'S THE ENTIRE FCKIN POINT OF HIS ENTIRE PLOT LINE - and suddenly it's just "Well, the current version also loves them, I guess they are the same, no trust me, they found their way here on their own we didn't just forget to write that" despite either almost nothing (Minami has much more development with BJ - who's alive at the end, you could have just made those two happen and leave my sweet boy alone) happening between them or worse - Budget Homura being a fckin stalker for 80% of the game and then in the 20% where she isn't, Kurabe isn't even around for it.

But then on the other hand you have Ei x Iori, Yuki x Amiguchi and Gouto x Shinonome, where it just feels like they had to add this because... well, they simply need to have romance? Did you miss that this game was about romance? You simply have to understand, these children simply have a need to romance. They need. To. FUC-

I mean, out of these Yuki x Amiguchi still works the best, mainly because I guess at least it's built up during the course of the game, but like. Fuck that. Amiguchi just annoyed her and then bam it's love. Yuki is such a good character, her arc is so great and then she let's herself be harrased into liking this whelp. And then they hate each other in the ending, bc haha, isn't it funny that Amiguchi still flirts with other people when they're married??? (and we'll get to the ending.)

Gouto x Shinonome was just thrown in there in one singular sentences for absolutely no good reason. Why even mention it. Why was this a thing you needed to establish. Could you just simply not fathom that at least one character in this game might not have been in a relationship at the age of 16?

(Well, there IS a character who wants to get a relationship but is thanks to this nonsense the only one who explicitly doesn't get one. Her name starts with M and ends with -iwako and she would have deserved to be a main character. I wonder what's different about her from everyone else... i already made that 'joke')

But now to the crown jewel of my hate about this game's romance:

Ei x Iori is absolute garbage. I hate it so fucking much. I said earlier that I thought Iori being irrelevant is really cool - well, it's too bad that only happened because they waste her story segment on whatever this is.

Their entire relationship is... that Iori thinks he's cute.

That's all. That's all of it. They didn't have a single full conversation before they started dating. Why. Why is Iori's only character trait that she thinks Ei is cute. I don't even think she gets to react to Ei telling her he killed her in a previous life. Like, think of the drama this relationship could have. Her figuring out that Ei killed not only her teacher self but the 2188 real self too and now he's here and he's after her so she needs to escape - but he's so cute... (which is the only reason why I will forgive the shippers, i trust you people to make this work)

None of that is in her story. She just wants to meet him again to tell him she loves him. And then she does. And then they're together. And now we're spending the culmination of the entire game on this bullshit.

The home stretch of the game (for me that was the last half wave + the ending) was excrutiating for me to play through. To be transparent - part of it is that I'm currently really struggling with loneliness thanks to my pretty severe social anxiety - which of course also includes love and 'finding a partner'. And this game really didn't help when all of a sudden 80% in it decided to become about """Love""" instead.

Everyone ends up in these perfect little relationships with zero effort - and it just made me feel like shit. Suddenly the entire game, everything we've learned about these characters, all of the small interpersonal connections we have made between these characters, every single of them that mattered so much to unlock the entirety of their 'truth', of their willingness to get into the Sentinel - meaningless. The only thing that matters is that they're now boyfriend and girlfriend. The only thing that matters is that they have children now. It doesn't matter what they decide to do with their life, it doesn't matter what they think of the situation they're in.

I think Iori doesn't get a single line about what she thinks about Chihiro Morimura being her.

And that's really it. Instead of getting a revue or something, any real introspective conclusion to these character's experiences that they had over the course of this fantastic story we just throw all of it out of the window so we can instead talk about how all of these people are in relationships now - even the creepy evil dude is """finally""" reunited with his virtual Idol! Isn't that heartwarming! LOVE! ROMANCE!

Ei isn't even in the fucking ending!!!

I hate the Ending. I hate it. Fuck that ending. Almost infuriates me as much as Eulogia. (Fuck Eulogia)

Okay, writing this later than the part before but I read the part of the wikipedia article where they talk about Kamitani's thoughts on the scenario he wrote and I don't get this man - he says he wanted the game (and specifically Ei's story) to be a romance???? That was the original plan that "remained"??? What??? Have you somehow edited out all of those romance parts in the main part of the game and just left them at the end???

Like, again, They have crushes, sure, stuff like that is hinted at or mentioned in passing, but the character's struggles and storylines are for the most part unrelated to the romance of the playable characters and because of that the romance, like, doesn't progress at all, people have crushes that one of the two thinks about in a static thought that doesn't actually develop further from its premise until right at the end where a relationship just happens out of thin air because I guess this is what romance is - so to say that that's a theme they always planned is crazy to me because you did nothing with it.

Also, apparently a lot of the best parts of the game (Yuki's detective storyline, all of Okino, Ogama's story and the Gotou Chihiro sequences) are the ones that were 'hard to write' and/or changed late into production - which is crazy, usually it's the other way around...

🥲~🌦️ Pre NaNoWriMo Update

Hello all! My name is Sugar, and this will be my second time attempting NaNo. Last year I didn't get very far, but it was a pleasant experience so I'm doing it again this year.

I've been really into giving my wips emojis as placeholder names, so I've given this project the working name "🥲~🌦️". I feel like these two emojis really fit the overall vibe of the story. Trying to be optimistic and peeking hesitantly over the clouds.

🥲~🌦️ is about an eighteen-year-old girl, Mercy, becoming a witch in the modern world while going to college. That is a very bare bones description, though. I want 🥲~🌦️ to have themes of self-discovery, women's solidarity, with a splash of Mean Girls~esque theatricalness and fun.

🥲~🌦️ is an amalgamation of a few wips that I've been thinking about for the past few months. One about witches that compete in a pageant style system instead of using duels, another about suburban vampire clans, and more. The way I make new wips is that I take the themes and the characters that worked from one project and synthesize them into a new story, so 🥲~🌦️ is no different from that.

I currently have three chapter outlines done and one character sheet for the main character, Mercy. I'm hoping to continue outlining as I'm writing, but I think I'll just have to pants most of this. I used to be a big planner, but I've become more free-form as I've had less and less time to write.

During the Camp NaNos in the summer, I normally set my goal around 25,000 to 30,000 words, so even if I don't hit the fifty thousand, which I probably won't, I will consider this a success if I hit those benchmarks.

Overall, I'm just really excited to dedicate myself to a project again. I've been hopping from wip to wip for a while, so actually working on one consistently feels exciting.

While I'm not new to writeblr, this is a new blog so I'll try to post an update every five or ten days. Eight is one of my favorite numbers though, so maybe one every eight days would bring me some luck, lol 😅

With that aside, I suppose introductions are in order. I go by they/them pronouns, though I may grant permission to use it/its pronouns to those I trust completely. Anyone using the latter without permission, however, will be swiftly blocked. As far as names go, I haven't come up with a nickname for this account, and with my wish to remain anonymous I'd prefer to avoid using one attached to any of my other blogs. I may come up with one in the future, but for now I'm just nameless. That's about all about me that matters at the moment, so with that said, my DNI list can be found below the cut.
