My mom was born in Kentucky in the 1940s. It was not a world with a place for women like her. She spent years trying to fit in—she was a cheerleader!—all the while suspecting that there was something different about her, that she was some sort of aberration. It wasn’t until she was in her thirties that she began to flourish. She eschewed the expectations put on her and started doing what she wanted to do. Before long, she had her own job; she was a published author; her art was gaining notice; she had become that intensely capable person I’ve described to you. Faced with a world with no place for her, she carved her own place out of granite. And at that moment, as all doors opened to her, she asked herself: What do I really want out of life? Who do I choose to be?
And she chose to be my mom.
She never looked back on that choice. But I did. I remember catching glimpses of the life she’d had before, of all that she’d put down to raise me and my brothers. I continually meditated on the magnitude of that choice, unable to hold it in my head. Had she been only half herself all this time? Had she pushed her own personality, her likes and dislikes, dreams and goals, to the side, just to give me the best life possible? Is that the sacrifice all mothers make? Is it worth it? Was I worth it?

it took me a bit to warm up to how childish fern is sometimes- shouldnt a full-fledged mage and young adult know better than to pout when something annoys her? but then i realized something important.
fern is childish because frieren treats her like a child.
and i dont mean she does it in a condescending way or that it discredits parts of fern's maturity, of course not. but when fern feels down and she starts pouting and giving people the silent treatment, frieren gives her whatever she asks for. buys her a good meal, snacks, goes for a walk. its how a parent would give in to their child and give them a toy to calm them down. and fern hasnt grown out of it because frieren hasnt stopped spoiling her like that.

I find it deeply aesthetically pleasing, character-wise, that Arthur and Merlin are both very much like their mothers, which is especially meaningful in Arthur's case since he's never known his mother beyond a single painfully brief meeting in "Sins of the Father."
Not only does Arthur look like Ygraine (which adds several layers to the clusterfuck of his and Uther's relationship) but it's clear that he takes after her temperament, too. Yes, he sometimes shows his father's temper, and yes, he does stupid things when he's in a temper, but unlike Uther, who literally took his prejudices to his grave and beyond, Arthur never stays mad at people, and he's overall a far more caring and kind person than his father, which is an interesting case of nature vs nurture.
And then on the other hand, we have Hunith, who told a mounted, armed brigand to go fuck himself, later fought another (also armed) brigand with a twig broom, harboured fugitives on multiple occasions, and raised an illegal magic child out of wedlock, and Merlin "Fuck the Police" Ambrosius, who got in a fistfight, got thrown in jail for the fistfight, called the prince a bitch to his face in a public market square, got in a second, armed fight all within his first 48 hours in Camelot, and then committed treason on a daily basis for the next 10+ years, compared to Balinor, who became a weird antisocial hermit that lived in a cave for twenty years.
couldn't have said it better myself bestie
also, there's a reason hunith and ygraine never met in the show. their dynamic duo would outshine everyone, they'd be unstoppable, untouchable, I FEEL ROBBED

Looking back, I desperately wish the concept of non-binary gender was something I knew about when growing up. Like maybe I wouldn't have gone through such an intense "not like other girls" phase as a kid if I knew that "not like other girls" was a wider option.

Modern AU:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Bela started going to university there was the inevitable question: “why here and not Cambridge or Harvard?”
Many excuses were used to answer the question, but the real answer is Alcina looking at her daughter (this is only done with close family like only Miranda and the other Lords) and saying “She couldn’t handle living on an hour and a half away campus, why do you think she can handle living abroad on her own?”
Because Bela tried. She even has a huge apartment near campus to stay in. She did move there, actually. But on the first night, she drove back to the castle because she felt very homesick and couldn’t possibly spend the night there.
Alcina is a no-pressure mom and also very indulging so she didn’t try to force Bela to tough it out and stay at the apartment. Because she was also having a hard time accepting that one of her babies was old enough to live on her own.
So if Bela feels better staying at home, then she stays at home.
Bela only stayed at the apartment during midterms and finals because she needed the extra time to study and be close to campus (during those times Cass would go with her because wants to keep her sister company and also have access to the university library and all the extra resources that she can use to excel even further in high school). But other than that Bela stayed at the castle and the driver would drive to and back from university every day.

I sketched a thing while I was up at an unreasonable hour.
#comic#raven beak#samus#samus aran#grey voice#old bird#metroid#metroid dread#she is three years old and just wanted to see Grey Voice#he's cool and tall#but the minute she enters the room BLAM there it is some motherfucker who's even TALLER than he is#it's tough when you're a kid and you're small and your parents died less than 2 months ago one of them right in front of you#she doesn't know if this stranger is nice like Grandpa Bird or of he's mean like the guy who ate her mother#and height is another thing he has in common with the purple pterodactyl! but he's not eating Grey Voice so he must be okay#anyways Samus likes Grey Voice because he smells nice and his robes are soft. he doesn't play with her often like Grandpa Bird does#but she'd like to change that. so she tries by putting in the effort herself. and she drags grandpa bird all over looking for him#she does this at least twice a week#chozo#unfortunately for Old Bird's ailing knees. but he tries his best.#i can only imagine the rest of their conversation#grey voice is gonna have a time explaining how he and old bird adopted this orphan kid off the side of the road like an abandoned puppy#meanwhile raven beak is giving him a hard time like 'ayy i thought you said you were sterile'#he's very interested in seeing how this develops#his gracious hosts aren't exactly getting any younger and they haven't been keeping up with their cardio#but they've got the gumption and he thinks they can pull it off. the kid making it long enough to leave the nest i mean.

yknow sometimes the way trans women talk about testosterone and being on estrogen is indistinguishable from the way terfs try to convince afab people not to start hrt
this is not a criticism mind you, their experiences are their own and completely legitimate, it's just a matter of competing needs - they need a safe space to talk about their dysphoria and how testosterone makes them feel and i need to not hear about how i am destroying my body with hrt
ordinarily these things are pretty insular to transfem circles but since instagram has been feeding me transfem content i'm seeing it more and more and yet again the algorithm is fucking me

thinking about scully sitting on the floor of mulder’s apartment just holding him as he wept after his mother’s death and after she told him through tears that it’s time to stop. it’s time to stop looking for his sister.
and how she had already told him that once, seven years earlier, a month into their partnership, when she chased him out of a police station and told him to stop running after his sister because it won’t bring her back.
she called after him to just stop, because she’s the scientist, and that’s the logical conclusion that she had reached.
except later that night, he told her why he does it. that he’s been closing his eyes and walking into that room, thinking maybe, when he opens them, his sister will be there, since he was 12 years old. “every day” of his life.
and she never told him to stop again.
until seven years later, when she rocked him on the floor, and then the next day was asked “why do you want to bring all this back up now?” and answered, “someone owes it to mulder.”
so she started looking. she reopened files, she tracked down records, she went to his mother’s house to dig through the trash. she confronted CSM about what he knew, she flew to california, she held hands and prayed.
she looked at mulder and said “it hurts me to tell you this” and stayed steady in the truth anyway. she listened to him read to her about a 14-year-old girl’s pain, held his hand and told him to get some sleep. she stayed up, kept looking, and found it. “i got it, mulder. i couldn’t believe it when i saw it. it was like it was looking for me.”
the police report from when samantha ran away.
she read the hospital records, went to the home of the nurse who signed the intake report, asked him if he wanted her to go herself.
she left him by the car and walked up and knocked, asked about a patient in 1979. she listened as the nurse described how “you couldn’t forget her or how frightened she was. scared for her sweet life.” and the man who came for her, who wouldn’t put out his cigarette.
earlier the day before, she had been told to just stop. “word of advice, me to you: let it be. you know, there’s some wounds that are just too painful ever to be reopened.”
and she had responded, “this particular wound has never healed. and mulder deserves closure.”
after seven years, she knows now, that you can’t just stop chasing. she knows how heavy grief is, and she‘s seen the effects of carrying it alone. of walking into the worst night of your life every day, eyes closed, hopeful.
you can’t just stop, and you can’t really have closure, but you can help someone carry it.
and ultimately, that’s what made this the end of the road. sometimes the heaviest burden of grief is feeling that pain is all there is left of someone, and that alleviating it would be to abandon them.
scully’s right, this wound has never closed, but there’s freedom in shared remembrance and shared dedication. she doesn’t ask him to stop until he’s ready to know the truth, and she’s willing to find it. she doesn’t ask him to rest until it’s safe for him to, because it’s not forgetting samantha. she knows and she remembers.

Nintendo shares with us that there's currently running a Q&A with the Pikmin devs, they said 'next to looking cute they shall show some eeriness too' and added this drawing:
Tumblr media
Yea, those pikmin for sure do not look cute.
Further on, someone added another quote stating that they watched some movie for inspiration and well...
Tumblr media
That looks like a rather fucked up movie.
I guess this franchise is secretly a horror game. I mean, y'all remember this one dungeon in the second game?
