It's all okay, your brother is with you.
I just wanted to protect my little brother.
When I save the world, it'll be with you.

Bye, Bye, Baby
It feels like you're becoming part of my past...
─── ❖ ── ✦ ── ❖ ───
He should've known better. He should've been better. The Marauder had never before been this quiet, never before only had only three people in it. Hunter sat in his chair, facing away from Tech's chair, he hated seeing Echo in it. Hunter wiped his eyes, he remembered how often he used to cry, he slipped so easily into his tears. His quiet sobs came back like a bad habit. His head hung low, he undid his bandana and he cried.
Echo dared not to cry, he wouldn't stop and he needed to be put together for Hunter. He didn't cry because Hunter was and he didn't want Hunter to pull himself together, he wanted to let Hunter feel all he needed to. Wrecker stood on the other side of the door, unable to come in. He wanted to scream and break something. He wanted to-
Wrecker froze as he saw Hunter walk down Havoc towards Omega's room. He climbed the steps and sat down, grabbing Omega's pillow. Hunter let out a cry, "I'm sorry," hugging the pillow, "I'm sorry." Hunter missed her, he failed her and now he had to miss her. He'd missed up so much lately. This morning they were only missing one, now they missing three. Hunter hugged her pillow tighter, "I miss you so much..." He looked at her room and he instantly wanted better for her, he wanted Pabu for her. He wanted starlight and kyber for his little girl.
"I can't fight anymore, Wrecker," He spoke slow. Wrecker's head shot up, "I can't do this anymore-" Hunter didn't wipe his eyes, Wrecker was blurry, but it was for the best he couldn't see Wrecker's defeated face, "I don't- I just want my family-" He let out a whimper and Wrecker rushed to his brother and scooped him up in a hug.
"I know," Wrecker sighed, rubbing Hunter's back. As a leader, he'd failed. He was never supposed to lose Omega, if he had been a better leader, if he had been a better father-
"How are we going to find her? Wrecker, how are we going to find her? I have no idea what to do-" He sobbed, "I can't do this, I don't have any ideas, I don't, I don't-" Hunter shook his head and let out a violent sob, one that, on instinct, made Wrecker hug Hunter tighter. A violent sob that beckoned Echo to join their hug.
Echo wasn't good at a whole lot, but he thought he was a pretty good brother. He thought he handled losing brothers pretty well. But Hunter, Hunter had never lost anyone in his family, ever. They were so lucky like that. Echo hugged his brothers tightly, losing a brother for the first time was the hardest, and it only got harder. So Echo did what he knew he could do, hold his brother and never let go.
Hunter missed his little girl, "She must be so scared and she's gonna try her best to escape and they're gonna hurt her-" Hunter broke from the hug, "They're gonna hurt her and I'm not gonna be there to protect her!" He yelled, jumping to his feet. He felt so useless! "They're gonna hurt her and I can't do anything!" He smacked the side of his head as he tried to think. "They're gonna make her cry-" He whimpered
Wrecker let out a sniffle, unable to speak. He was so good with Tech and Crosshair, but he'd always failed Hunter. And he'd continue to. "What are we going to do?!" Hunter went to the computer, like a fool he wanted a miracle. He had to keep fighting, he had to get to Omega, he had to protect her, he had to be there for her. He had to. There was nothing else Hunter wanted more in his life than to be Omega's father, and he was failing. He was failing at the one choice he chose to make.
Hunter fell to his knees, he hadn't felt this useless in years. He hadn't been this lost in years. He hadn't failed this badly in years. He was always better than this, smarter, more put together. He failed Tech, he failed Crosshair, he failed Omega and he failed himself. Hunter held his head and tried desperately to be better. But he failed. Doubt set in and Hunter realized all he'd ever do is fail and that's all he was meant to do. He had already been a great brother, that moment passed.
He had tried so hard to create a life for his family. Late at night, talking finances with Tech, schooling for Omega with Echo, possible homes with Wrecker. Crosshair rescue plans with Omega. He had talked to everyone about creating a new life for all of them, and now, no one was here.
He stared at the floor and the puddle of tears he'd created. He could feel Echo and Wrecker watching him and he wanted to pull himself together, but his homeland was gone, he had nothing to defend. He had no family to protect. He lost his little brothers and Omega. He lost Omega- "No-" He whispered, "Please, no.." He needed her to be okay. He needed her to come back home. Tech was never coming home, Crosshair would never forgive him, Wrecker and Echo would never see him more than the mess he was right now. They'd lost everything. Today, they lost. Never before had he ever had to say goodbye, but recently,
He never had the chance to

V9C10 Wrap Up
Omg it REALLY IS the Tree of Life. Like, REALLY really.
Little Red Riding Hood found herself. And found a BADASS there.
Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Belle, and Goldilocks are a FAMILY, ok?
Curiosity killed the Cat. The Cheshire Cat, specifically.
Neapolitan Ice Cream Mary Fucking Poppins just wants to love and be loved in return! And now it’s her turn to figure out who she wants to be (cuz holy shit).
The Narcoleptic Teacup Dormouse is BACK. And less narcoleptic and teacup-ish this time.
So THAT’S why Wonderland looks like a child’s imaginary playground. It literally WAS the playground of the Brothers Grimm when they were young.
Joan of Arc is a young boy again!
Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Belle, Goldilocks, and Joan of Arc are going HOME! And by home I mean right back into the FRAY but for now we can just be happy they learned things about themselves and what/who is important to them and have come home

It's kinda funny. The Curious Cat thought they had to possess a human being in order to leave the Ever After. But according to the Blacksmith's story, the Two Brothers could leave the Ever After easily without having to resort to that. The Cat probably never needed to take someone's body, but jumped to conclusions.
Ergo, other Ever Afterians could go through the Door and visit Remnant. I'm bringing this up because I would love to see Professor Port's reaction if Somewhat visited Vale.

Tyler has been so strong, not showing how scared he is, but the fact that he slips when Dale gets shot breaks my heart. I mean, that's his baby brother getting killed, and it's all his fault. He could have gone out there instead, ignored the "big boy pants" comment, could have died instead. But he didn't.
And his killing Joyce, and the beginnings of a conversation with Jay afterwards shows this. It's just sad.

I really must wonder, what had you invested in the Brother Gods of RWBY? Most people I lurk seemed to just sign them "assholes to be kicked in the nuts" after the Ozma's task reveal. What matter brought you to be rooting for the Brothers, especially their feud, with GoL's side and why? Can you tell me about your insight on the characters of those Brothers and why you think so? These are very genuine questions with genuine curiosity have a nice day drink your water regularly
It never occurred to me to question your genuine curiosity. You’ve shown nothing but sincerity so far.
But you’ve asked a very difficult question, by asking me to compare myself to others. What a minefield.
Obviously, I think I am correct; else I wouldn’t think what I do, and I would change my mind to think something else.
So, if I think something different from the majority, and I think I am right to do so, how do I justify this without supposing myself wiser, smarter, or more compassionate than the majority?
Misotheism
You’ll find advocates who won’t tolerate hearing a single criticism of Team RWBY, and will dismiss any as misogyny. You’ll find critics who can’t say a single good thing about Team RWBY, and for all I know they might well be misogynist. Some of Jaune’s worst critics might be misandrist.
So, maybe the worst critics of the Two Brothers are misotheists -- people inclined to hate gods or any personages in godlike positions of power and authority.
I’m certainly not a misotheist, so I’m not predisposed to hate the gods. I try to judge the gods according to their own actions, as well as according to their perspectives and intentions.
Just Sibling Things
One factor of my sympathy towards the Two Brothers, and the Older Brother in particular, is that I myself am an older brother. My younger brother and I are “Irish Twins”, in that he was conceived relatively shortly after I was born, and so most of our lives we have been roughly equal in size, strength, and skill.
I know what it is like to disagree with such a brother, and to do everything in my power to bend him to my will, including the final resort of violence. I know the ultimate futility of changing someone else’s mind with appeals to reason, appeals to emotion, or even threats of force, and thus the importance of achieving a good relationship based on respect and compromise.
I was also the more creative one, and my brother the more destructive one, though my brother was nowhere near as terrible as the Younger Brother. Unlike the Younger Brother, mine was by far the more sociable of the two of us, so I have an inkling of how the Older Brother couldn’t bring himself to kill the Younger Brother and leave himself alone in the universe... assuming such a feat was even possible for the two of them.
“No” Means “No” (but it doesn’t mean “I hate you”)
I also grew up respecting my mother’s authority and trusting in her love for me. I learned early in life that my parents had limited resources and couldn’t give me everything I asked for, or even everything that they wanted to give me without being asked.
Mother would certainly try to explain herself if I asked Why, but she made it clear very early that she would never tolerate whining or tantrums. If I could not request for something politely or offer a polite counter-argument, the answer would automatically become “No”. Because she wanted my brother and I to know how to persuade other adults by the time we had become adults.
Thinking More Than One Step Ahead
Some people have what I think is called “Phase 1” thinking, where they can only imagine the immediate reaction to an action and they stop there, content that their goal is achieved with no consequences.
For example, they look at how the God of Creation, at best, only bowed his head and turned his eyes away in sorrow as his brother murdered the first humanity. (Some fans don’t even bother to remember that much detail, because it contradicts their headcanon that the Brothers are equally at fault.)
Their Phase 1 thinking is that the Older Brother should have intervened to protect humanity, and then the whole thing would just magically blow over with no consequences.
Phase 2+ thinking is recognizing that is a childish fantasy.
1) There is no way words would have stopped this war. Words didn’t stop the God of Destruction during the divine war; limited violence followed by words of reconciliation did.
2) The Younger Brother was rearing for a physical fight just from the Older Brother barging into his room to enforce the rules they had agreed upon. For his brother to assault him after humanity did, and to do so while actually breaking their rules himself*, there’s no way the God of Destruction wouldn’t fight back. *(At least, it makes absolute sense that their original agreement would include “If they ever choose Destruction to the point of trying to destroy US, then I win our Destruction versus Creation bet and I get to destroy them.” Followed by the canonical compromise “best two out of three; I get a second chance to show they will choose Creation”.)
3) A divine fistfight between gods who can casually destroy a planet is going to result in far more collateral damage than when there was no planet for the God of Creation to worry about. As Ozpin told Pyrrha “You’d only get in the way”, but Remnant had no power to flee from the fight like Pyrrha could.
4) This isn’t the first time the God of Creation has been helpless to save his creations from his brother destroying them. This isn’t the first time his heart has been broken. Sectors of the fandom live to talk about psychological abuse and the ways that abuse-victims try to protect themselves from more pain, and they’ll forgive Cinder’s abuse of Emerald because of Cinder’s own past of abuse, but somehow that doesn’t apply to the God of Creation who NEVER WANTED things to get this bad.
The God of Life has a pool of immortality just laying around waiting to be used, and his brother is the God of Death, and people place equal blame on the God of Life that his equal and opposite demands that people die.
Because the God of Death resurrected ONE mortal out of envy for his brother and for his own flattered ego, that somehow erases the fact that he’s logically the ultimate reason why Ozma died in the first place, and it means that Salem didn’t actually need to hear the explanation she didn’t want to hear from the God of Life about why he couldn’t afford to bring Ozma back even though he wanted to.
Phase 1 thinking. The next phase would be realizing that if the Older Brother hadn’t intervened, the Younger Brother would have found himself constantly inundated by humans begging for their loved ones back, and when he would inevitably refuse, they would begin shouting at him like Salem shouted at his brother, and like others certainly shouted at the Older Brother many times before Salem.
And I don’t think the God of Destruction would have responded to angry demands as gracefully as his brother.

We were robbed not getting Verin in Bazzoxan in C2.
Writing my Netherdeep story and the characters have finally reached Bazzoxan (after150pages) and are talking to the Taskhand. And just from his description in both books (EGtW&CotN) I loved him already.
But writing out his mannerism and his dialogue. He is a good person with a lot of weight on his shoulders who takes it all very seriously. Also such a good juxtaposition to Essek. Where Essek turned his responsibility in a way to further his own ends and goals, Verin is all about protecting others.
I imagine when he first showed up at Bazzoxan all fresh faced and eager, friendly the soldiers and townsfolk laughed. “He won’t last through his first attack” they sneered. After all, many like him don’t. Bazzoxan isnt a place of hope.
But Verin tried to change that. And his first incursion was absolutely a life-changing experience for him. People could warn him all they wanted about the horrors of the city, but it never really speaks to actually living the nightmare. But he also didn’t give up, or give in. He persevered, he mustered moral (imagine moral in Bazzoxan!) and they won the day. And afterward he didn’t quit.
And he didn’t really change. He continued being friendly with everyone he meets. He is that commander who tries to learn everyone’s names, and rememberes your face as well. You can pass by him on the street and he will greet you by name and ask you how your children are, or if those vegetables sprouted. He’ll ask how you’re getting by without your wife or parents and make sure you aren’t struggling.
The Aurora Watch members laugh at him still, but instead of the mocking sneers betting on him leaving, they joke about how he calls them by their given names more often then their ranks and titles and surnames. “Rowenda... er Seargent Luer’ig do you have that report.” “Pfft, yes sir”
Verin Thelyss has breathed life back into Bazzoxan. Whereas before they survived, and worked to continue surviving. Now they survive, but they’re also starting to thrive. They know this war is endless, but maybe they can somehow make a life out of it. Find some peace and tranquility in the calm despite the loss and hardship.
It’s a heavy weight, but one Verin is glad to bear. This is why he’s here, to protect these people and bring back their sense of hope. To see the smile on a parents face as they watch their kid complete a task for the first time, and to ensure they can keep doing so.
He may be tired, but he always has a genuine smile and helping hand ready.
