Signs to tell if the person in your inbox, asking you to reblog a post with a link asking people to donate money for their sick pet or kid, is a scam
Before we start, a disclaimer that this is NOT a solid confirmation that this person must be a scammer. The intention of this is for you to be wary and always check before donating or rebloging this type of post.
Without further ado and from firsthand experience, here are the red flags:
The person in your inbox asking you to reblog a post with their donation link will always ask you NOT to publish the ask they sent you (but to only reblog their post), and their reasoning would always be something along the line of “I don’t want people to think I pressured you into doing it🥺”
But if you go to the person’s profile with their post asking for donation, 100% of the time, you’ll find that the account has only just been created days ago. — How can you tell this? Easy. You can literally scroll down to the first ever post of their blog in less than 10 seconds.
The thing these scammers have in common is that they will create a new blog and they WILL reblog some general posts, such as fandom posts, to make their blogs look legit. They will have legit profile pictures so they don’t look like bots. But it will always be a newly created blog with several reblogs (mostly about fandoms, because they know rebloging fandom posts will make them look more legit than if they were to reblog some suggestive photos of some women, since the latter will make them look like p0rn bots), and the only original post they made is that post asking for donation.
Move on to the information they provided about their sick pet or kid. They will provide thorough and detailed information to make it look legit. But the thing is that they could just take that from google or steal that information from someone who actually needed the donation. There is never a way to tell if your money will go directly to help save the pet or the kid. My advice is to google the patient’s name and see how old the case is, if the case of this patient with this name and this information has been used to ask for donation by other people before, etc.
The photo of the patient they gave can also help you determine if it’s legit. Save that photo and then use google image search to see if it’s an original photo or if it’s a stolen one that has been used before.
Bonus: the thing these scammers can’t do is provide updates about how the patient’s doing. So it’s only just one post with the link asking you for your money. If it is legit, you should be able to see consistent updates of how this patient is doing or if there’s any change, etc. (I’m not saying it’s a requirement for those whose loved one is in critical care to post updates on social media all the time, I’m simply pointing out that scammers tend to fail to provide any update because they can’t.)
I’ll always encourage donating and helping spread the posts of those who actually are in need, though it’s just so unfortunate that, while there are people who are genuinely struggling, there are a lot of scammers out there looking for an opportunity to take advantage of people’s kindness and using sick pet or kid as a way to scam people and making it more difficult for people who really need help to be taken seriously.
Last but not least, fuck those scammers. Stay safe y’all.

hey 🇭🇰Cantonese🇲🇴 learners!
Tumblr media
I got recommended this keyboard App called TypeDuck🦆by anwar @ Insta that you may like to check out! (If you haven't heard of, or aren't already using, that is!)
Even though I have yet to try it (long story involving my phone being wonky so I can't install this for myself, for now), cantonese4parents @ Insta already has, and it's available on Playstore, so I'd expect it has been vetted safe enough!
Apparently if you use this keyboard to type out in 粵拼 Jyutping (Cantonese Romanisation, equivalent to Mandarin's Pinyin system), it will show you not only the Jyutping spelling but also the English meaning alongside the 漢字 Chinese characters! ↓
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides English, it apparently supports some less common language translations like “Hindi, Nepali and Urdu” (quoting from their website) too.
Very useful I think, for anyone who's not good at recognising/mapping the 漢字 to the 粵拼 yet! 😺
Tumblr media
Trivia: If you're wondering why this App is called “TypeDuck” 🦆, it's because it's a play on 打得 in Cantonese (Jyutping: daa² dak¹), which means “able to type”! Great pun! Yes? 😸

Guide to Tumblr for all the Twitter refugees
Tumblr media
So you wanna be free from the mess that’s going on in that blue hellscape? Welcome to the half functional site called tumblr dot com, birdapp people. Let me show you some basic How-To’s before you get started!
Tumblr is half functional most of the time, but don’t worry at least we don’t have mister twitter boss here!
Tumblr is not like Twitter, where the content you “liked” automatically show up on your followers’ dashboards (dashboards equals Twitter timeline) — meaning if you like something and want to show that thing you like some appreciation, the only way to do it is to click that “reblog” button. That’s how you can support the creator. If you “like” something but don’t “reblog” it, well it doesn’t really mean anything, to be honest. Because “liking” on Tumblr doesn’t help hype the post. No one will see it. If you want to support your favorite creators, always reblog.
People can see the posts you’ve liked by visiting your blog and going through your “like” section. But you can choose whether or not you want your Like Section (as well as your following list) to be public. I mean you can keep it private, if you’re more comfortable that way. But reblog is to support creators. So don’t be shy.
Reblog. Don’t repost. This is very important, you guys. If you reblog something, you’re supporting the OP by hyping their posts up. Any “like” or “reblog” the post you reblogged receives from your followers goes directly to the OP. But if you “repost” it, you’re basically stealing their post. Keep in mind: Reblog. Don’t repost.
Tumblr is PG rated. Meaning no n s f! w content, sadly. (There’s this new “label” thing where they allow you or even other people to “label” any post if it contains mature content, but tbh even with this site having p0*n b0t problem, any post that shows so much as a n¡pple will get you flagged). So… it sucks, but better play it safe if you don’t wanna get flagged.
If you did get flagged, your profile pic will automatically be censored, resulting in it looking like this ↓
Tumblr media
And if people go to your profile or blog or account, it will look like this ↓
Tumblr media
You can appeal to have your blog unflagged, if you believe you’ve been flagged by a mistake. But my advice would be to play it safe and avoid posting anything n s f! w.
Tumblr anon is fun. You can choose whether or not to allow anon in your inbox. And you can anonymously drop by other people’s inbox (if they allow anon) to say hi, or to compliment them if you’re shy and rather be anon.
But always remember: anon hate isn’t cool. Don’t be an anon hate. Because honestly hiding behind “anon” in order for you to be able to send hate to people doesn’t make you look “intimidating” like you may think it does. It just makes you look like an aggressive chihuahua barking at this Person You Don’t Like while at the same time you’re hiding behind a corner (in this case, a corner equals anon) because that person does, in fact, intimidate you and not the other way around. Anon hate honesty just makes the sender look pathetic, small and a coward. Don’t be that person. If you have something to say to someone, at least grow some balls and say it off anon.
Okay I think that’s it for now. Other than that, just enjoy this chaotic site (not as chaotic as the birdapp currently is, apparently). Have fun. Be wild. Love y’all xx

useful tips for new lab workers
• when you first visit the institute where the lab is located, you will hear a constant dull thumping. It won't go away, but you will stop noticing it eventually.
• if there’s a cafeteria, it’s only safe to eat vegetables and bread there. No meat, no animal protein sources in general. Also no cherry fillings, because eyeballs shrink when exposed to heat. And become tender if cooked properly. You don’t want to ask any more questions.
• it’s better to not measure acidity of water from the toilet taps. It’s better to not put your hands under it as well. Get yourself an antiseptic from home, carry it with you, don’t leave it anywhere.
• same thing with writing utensils: you'll need them, so put a pencil and a notebook in your labcoat pocket and never leave them exposed. Your colleagues do that for a reason, which you probably don’t want to know — let’s just say discovering strange writings in languages that don’t exist might get pretty exhausting over time.
• if you enter the laboratory and see that a tap is flowing, do not close it. Reagents are poured down the drain, and those who live there, unlike you, do not have coolers with clean water.
• Some equipment does not need to be used. Let this refractometer just sit in the corner.
• don’t look for lost magnetic stirrers, you won’t find them anyway. They are a treat.
• anything can and will move through the pipes sticking out of the walls; the lab does not belong to you. If you see something or someone you know in the pipes, don’t violate their privacy. Also: it really was just your imagination, but try to never talk to that colleague of yours, whose scalp you’ve just seen in the pipe, again.
• stay vigilant: the archive of tissue samples is regularly updated.

Unless you're rich, can't recommend enough that people track all their expenses, save, and learn to invest. It's important to learn to manage your money. Money is power and freedom and security, and I don't mean like, be a millionaire, I mean don't let yourself be absolutely powerless if you can help it!! Don't let yourself get into debt unnecessarily! Don't let yourself be vulnerable to abusive people/companies! Know where your money is going! Don't trick yourself into thinking that treating yourself to a purchase every day is okay because it brings you happiness and it's good for your mental health - it's literally not, it just gives you a short burst of serotonin/adrenaline/whatever that you'll constantly be chasing while ultimately not enjoying what you bought! I hate the side of Tumblr that is like "let poor people buy themselves a Starbucks every day if they want to, it won't make a difference, capitalism is just screwing them over" - okay babes, but it does make a difference actually! This doesn't mean "don't treat yourself ever", but it does mean that, if you're having money issues while buying stuff you don't really need every day, it is kind of a you problem!! (and there's no shame in treating that in therapy because it might be tied to something else!)
Anyway, go make a spreadsheet and start tracking your expenses ✌️
Also, I took an Economy class at uni and learned that banks are shit and investing with banks is shit and buying dollars to safeguard our shitty ARS is shit and hurts the economy, so I spent many years being like "I refuse to participate in that". Guess what! When I wanted to travel abroad, all my savings in ARS were worth shit in USD because money loses value! My ethics are worth shit because one person refusing to participate doesn't fix the system, I'm just screwing over myself! Argentina is a, um, special case when it comes to money losing value, but still, if you have enough savings, learn to invest so that money doesn't lose value over time! (but also, make sure you have savings you can immediately access in case of an emergency!)
send me a 💌 and I’ll give you a random piece of advice that you might or might not need

for the ask about online resources, i like listening to the podcast on chattycantonese dot com! they provide a list of vocabulary for some of the words use in the podcast audio, as well as a transcript (+english translations) so you can follow along! i also like using the zhong-wen chinese-english dictionary extension on a desktop browser (both chrome and firefox have it). it only provides mandarin pinyin but i found it to be helpful in providing quick translations when browsing the internet!
More great tips for learning Cantonese! Thank you Anon for your contribution! 😺

One thing I've found useful while saving an artwork is naming it either what's said in it, what it's based on or by what's happening in it, but I shorten it to initals.
Example:
Red like roses, but still false = rlrbsf
It's so nice to meet you, let's never meet again = isntmylnma
Teens playing game while in awe of it = tpawiaot
Thought I'd share this in case others might find it useful
