‪Victuuri Headcanon‬
When Yuuri was just a fanboy, his phone wallpaper was always various photoshoot pics of Viktor. Always professional, modeling pictures. Yes, Yuuri loves looking at them because who doesn’t like staring at the world’s most gorgeous man, Viktor Nikiforov? But something about these pictures felt a little...detached. No one knew much about the legend’s personal life. It was something Yuuri had always wanted to know. But he respected his boundary as a fan, and knew Victor’s private life was his own business. ‬
Fast forward to engaged Victuuri. Yuuri’s lockscreen is still Viktor— But this time, it’s his own pictures of his fiancé. Viktor tying his skates at the rink. Viktor with his robe half open, reading his book with a very intense expression. Viktor‪, cuddling Makkchin on the couch in St. Petersburg, staring intently at whatever movie they were watching. A slightly awkward picture taken before Stammi Vicino, where Viktor puts up a small peace sign. Viktor with his headphones in, listening to Yuuri’s new free skate song with sparkling eyes because ‘It’s perfect, Yuuri!~’ ‬
‪Yuuri can’t help but smile every time he looks at his phone.

Yuuri isn’t allowed to drive very often because he gets intense road rage that inevitably leads to him cussing and swearing and threatening in Japanese about stupid people on the road and things that happened in the past 72 hours that annoyed him.
This happened while Viktor and Yuri were also in the car once and now they both fear road rage Yuuri-

Do any other Yuri!!! on Ice fans spend far too much time thinking about pet names/endearments between our favorite ice husbands? Maybe it's because I have some dark headcanons around Viktor's backstory (specifically, his nonexistent relationship with his neglectful parents), but I've always thought that Viktor would long not only to use pet names for his significant other, but to get that some verbal affirmation in return.
Through the course of researching for my various yoi fics, I've developed some understanding around the relative lack of endearments in Japanese culture (as in, beyond the use of -chan as an honorific or 'anata' between married couples), so I feel like Yuuri and Viktor might have had some explicit conversations around this early on in their relationship.
And I think having these conversations would present a huge opportunity for vulnerability/growth for both of them.
Because while I, of course, understand how one's cultural norms might heavily influence attitudes around relationship conventions, I think it's also very valid to adapt our behaviors/thinking based around the ways we most need to be loved/show love.
Which makes me think that once Viktor explains how important this is to him (i.e. his desire for Yuuri to call him sweet things like 'honey' or even use Russian endearments for him), I figure Yuuri would try his very damnedness to get past any hesitance he might feel around it. It might even get to a point where Yuuri realizes that he loves that he's the only person that gets to refer to Viktor in this way...as 'luchik' (sunbeam in Russian) or 'my love' or 'anata' and it totally feeds the possessive part of him that we see develop in canon. It's part of the reason they use pet names/endearments for each other so frequently in my own stories.
Anyway, the idea of it makes me a bit emotional and I'm sort of motivated to write a story around this concept. I get the sense that others (perhaps Yuuri's sister or the Nishigoris) would be curious in understanding how comfortable he grows into this form of verbal affirmation for Viktor, so it could make for some interesting dialogue between them.
As a disclaimer, I also completely understand how some people might find the use of pet names between them strange or not fitting with the characterization of their relationship...this is just based on the fluff-fest in my head that likes to fixate around Viktuuri love languages lol

Uh uh uh, character ask game sounds like a great chance to ramble about Vitya!! Please 5, 12, and 25 for our beloved russian cinnamon roll ⛸️🥇
send me a character (hint: i don't mind getting victor again!!!) + one or more of these question!
VITYAAAAAA OMG THANK YOU FOR PICKING HIM AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!! I'M TOTALLY normal about this ask wow.
okay, okay i'm calm. i'm fine. i can reply. deep breaths.
5. what's the first song that comes to mind when you think about him?
that's a good question! i have several songs that come to mind considering how his character and his relationship with Yuuri grow over the course of the anime, but during the first few eps, i totally feel like (if you're wondering if i want you to) i want you to by weezer fits Victor's time in Hasetsu! starting when he realized Yuuri wouldn't respond to his aggressive come-on tactics, and therefore spent the whole summer pining after him and dropping hints and still not getting what he'd initially come for x)
12. what's a headcanon you have for this character?
in a future AU where Victuuri has children, Victor is the strict dad!! to his human kids but not the pups obviously
don't get me wrong, he goofs around a lot and he adores playing and messing with his kids, he loves them soooo much and he shows them every single damn day, unlike his own parents (i hc them either as dead when he was young, or emotionally distant).
but imo, he's also very intent on not leaving them to their own devices to figure out shit on their own from an early age (like he had to do himself). these kids are going to be sat down and given multiple chances to explain themselves when they did something wrong, they're gonna get grounded (with a hug and a kiss, always, because proofs of love and affection are unconditional) when they deserve to, they're going to get a very extensive and absolutely mortifying Sex Talk with multiple hand picked recommendations for resources to find out more that Victor spent a whole ass month putting together, and they're not going to be (too) spoiled no matter how much it hurts Vitya's heart to stop himself from buying all the silly stuff he wants to (don't tell the kids, but he spoils Yuuri instead). i love picturing him being this unexpectedly responsible, and imagining Yurio continuously telling him that, of all the shit he pulled off in his life, this is by far the most surprising of the lot! *crying in Soft Victuuri Parents AU*
25. what was your first impression of this character? how about now?
well to be honest, i first thought he was basically a hot Himbo who was bored out of his mind and took the first excuse/flight he found to flee out of a life he couldn't stand anymore and get some adorable fan's dick on the other side of the world. which imo was equal parts Extra™️ + irresponsibly silly considering his career + incredibly brave... and then he needed like one week to fall in love and started pining like a fucking moron, which i found so, so damn endearing.
and THEN EPISODE TEN HAPPENED AND I- do i need to repeat the novel-length message i sent you about this the other day when we talked about this?? i don't think so. but i will say that this ep definitely made me fall even more in love with him, because it hints at so much unhappiness in his life before he met Yuuri??? and that only accentuates how brave he was to get himself out of that darkness and towards Yuuri's light (when he had no actual way of knowing how he'd be received, and was even severely rebuffed when he did get to Japan), i just.. i'm tearing up. he's a fucking legend, and i don't mean in the figure skating community only. i love him so much Nube!!!! *crying harder now*

No one could have been prouder of Yuri's exhibit than Viktor was of Yuri that day. The young man had managed to do something daring and brave - that was likely going to cause Yakov a heart attack - but still! It was the kind of thing that Viktor had secretly wished he could do, but had never been brave enough; and now, he was too old. He was glad though, that Yuri wasn't going to let anyone stop him from being himself.

Yuri's Grandfather named him after Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space (who was from the Soviet Union), because he believed that if you wish your child to do great things, you need to name them after great people.

Some thoughts on Victor’s hair
I know we talk a lot about long vs short hair Victor.... but I don’t think we talk enough about mid-length hair Victor.
Like imagine during the next skating season he decides to grow out his hair again but just not to the same length as when he was younger so it ends up a few inches past his chin. Long enough where it gets in this face but not long enough where he can pull all of it up into a regular ponytail. Instead he usually settles for a half up-half down style.
There’s always been a lot of speculation as to what was the specific reason he cut his hair. Was he really just bored and wanted to change his look? Did he do it to surprise the audience? While both of these are completely plausible, maybe  there could have been other more serious reasons for the decision.
Did something happen that made him want to completely break away from that former image of himself? Perhaps it was his attempt to grow up, to bring back some sort of feeling to his life. Maybe some other person did or said something that affected him so deeply causing him to cut it all off.
If the latter, I can imagine growing out his hair could be a cathartic experience for him. He loved his long hair growing up. Loved brushing it and putting it in intricate hairstyles. Cutting it off must have been like losing a key part of his identity that he had held onto for so long.
Growing it out again could be his way of reclaiming a part of himself that he’d lost while embracing the new person he was. Halfway down his neck, a middle ground between who he used to be and who he was becoming.

i’m so in love w the idea of victuuri, after a few years of marriage, gaining near-fluency in each other’s native languages, and as a result having their own chaotic conversations switching between 3+ languages.
At first, it started at home— victor asking yuuri questions in russian without thinking, yuuri mindlessly replying in japanese. It quickly evolved into a mash of english, russian, and japanese. Their multilingual minds often forgot words, or they weren’t sure how to express certain sentiments in one language, so they’d just throw in phrases from the other ones to get their point across.
ultimately, it made its way out of the confines of their home and into the rink.
Victor calling out critiques in Russian-English. Yuuri replying in Russian-Japanese. Victor giving Yuuri feedback in Japanese, substituting English for the words he didn’t know. Yuuri agreeing, butting in to inquire about his 4T + 3T combination in Russian.
Not even mentioning the atrocious mix-matching of grammar forms. And yet Victor and Yuuri seemed to understand each other perfectly well.
Their rink mates eventually gave up on trying to understand what the hell was going on between those two, and started calling it the katsukiforov language.

I love reading/writing Yuri!!! on Ice stories that center around Viktor's insecurities around his "worthiness" of being w/ Yuuri.
The fandom has (understandably) created tons of content around Yuuri's insecurities, but I find it really compelling to ideate around this "Living Legend" superstar athlete -- who, prior to finding love, built up pretty much his entire life around his career -- and his worry that the love of his life will one day tire of him, especially the closer that Yuuri approaches retirement and no longer needs Viktor to be his coach.
It's the subject of an ongoing post-canon, married Viktuuri story I've been working on, which currently has three chapters out (of five total, but that chapter count could very well increase, lol). You'll see it's part of my larger series, but IMO, you can still enjoy/understand it without reading the other works.
It's a Viktor POV fic, whose premise is that Yuuri (who has now achieved certification to teach group pole dancing classes) one day gets approached by a fellow instructor around teaching one-one-one classes. He mentions this idea to Viktor, but appears underconfident around it, so Viktor volunteers to become his "trial student" in order to help his husband get used to the idea around someone he already knows/is comfortable around.
While the overall story might appear light-hearted (especially b/c this arrangement gives these two ample opportunity to be all flirty and eros with one another), a big theme in the story is Viktor's insecurity around being a beginner/bad at something. It's a concept that he's still not used to, post-retirement: not immediately being an expert at things, and having to accept that he can be bad at something, and still entirely lovable, anyway.
The other element of the story that's been exciting to explore is the idea that Viktor is approaching this arrangement with a somewhat ulterior motive that taps directly into his own insecurities. While, yes, he is ultimately hoping that being Yuuri's student will boost his husband's confidence in his own teaching skills, he also believes that he needs to find more and more ways to "hold" Yuuri's interest, especially given his student's approaching retirement (after the 2022 Beijing Olympics). Once Yuuri retires and no longer needs Viktor as his coach, what could Viktor have to possibly offer him? Maybe if he learns how to pole-dance, his husband will still find him sexy and inspirational and interesting.
It's easy for an outside observer to be like "Viktor, you idiot...Yuuri has been obsessed with you since he was twelve, he's not going to suddenly think you're boring when you're no longer his coach", but that's the thing about insecurities: they're rarely rational, or based in logic. Mine certainly aren't.
As accomplished and impressive as he is, Viktor still needs reminders that who he is, inherently, is absolutely enough, whether that means he is an expert pole dancer like Yuuri, or a complete novice. A lot of this also taps into my headcanons around Viktor's childhood trauma and strained relationship with his parents, which has given him significant abandonment issues.
Gah, thinking about it really gets me in my feels; I can't wait to finish this WIP up, and hope you all would consider checking it out, now or once it's completed.

Yuri Plisetsky
Tumblr media
Yuri Plisetsky was thirteen when his grandma died. She, and his grandpa, had been the centre of his entire world. He was competing for his first ever Junior Competition, and she refused to let him back home so he could say goodbye. She died listening to the sound of cheers as Yuri's scores were announced, with Nikolai holding the phone so she could hear. Little would she know, that would be the start of her grandson's career.

Headcanons: Viktor loved having long hair. But the constant harassment of the Federation to appear more masculine, not to mention the negative attention he got because of it, eventually saw him visiting the local hairdresser's one evening just before closing time.
It's not an exaggeration to say that he was in tears throughout the whole process.
