09. Emotion Demotion
Early college Kevin kinda sucked. Maybe you can learn from my mistakes!

07. Ups and Downs
I want to be clear that this happiness graph is mostly a tool for me to communicate some ideas to you; it is not a tool to actually measure your success or happiness, and especially not a way to measure yourself against others. We’re all on our own journey, going at our own pace.

06. The Area Underneath
Some people might say my life is boring. I don’t drink often, I don’t party hard, I go to bed at 10pm... but I'm hopeful that my methods of optimizing happiness could apply to other, more “exciting” lifestyles as well. And also... hey, my life isn’t boring! Shut up.

05. The Happiness Graph
Happiness can’t be measured, in part because it can’t be quantified objectively. This might seem unfortunate, but in a world where we obsess over “success” relative to our peers, maybe it’s a good thing that we don’t have another metric with which to compete with others. Next week we’ll get into what VERY limited things this graph might be useful for.

04. A Shared Goal
If you don’t think it’s okay to acknowledge that your own happiness motivates a lot of your actions, I hope you’ll reconsider. I’ll get into this later in the series, but it doesn’t have to mean acting in a way that is traditionally considered “selfish.” Be kind to others, support your communities... but don’t ignore your own needs.

02. THE ENGINEER
Yes, I am an engineer. Yes, I’m bad at inspiring emotion (unfortunate, since that would be a useful skill when making a long-form comic). For a long time I also fit the stereotype that I didn’t understand or express emotion well, but I’ve made great strides in that department. My hope is that with this comic I can help a few others navigate that transition, and be entertaining along the way why not.

01. INTRODUCTION
Hi! Thanks for reading episode one of An Engineer’s Guide to Happiness. I really hope this series ends up being helpful for a few people, even if to a lot of others I just look like a pretentious jerk. I don’t think I have it all figured out, but I don’t want to wait until I do to start talking about what I’ve learned.
