Dear Neil, I am a horrible person. How to be kinder, please?
Sometimes I suspect we are all horrible people. Or at least, we are human people. Same thing. We are impatient, judgmental, irritating and irritated, grumpy, easily offended and the rest of it.
So how to be kinder if it doesn’t come naturally?
Fake it.
Fake it a little bit at a time.
Because there isn’t actually any difference between doing something nice for someone because you are naturally saintly and perfect, and doing something nice for someone because you are secretly demonic and trying to cover it up. It’s still an act of kindness either way, and you still made their lives better.
Smile at people. Say hullo. Ask about their lives. Remember what they’ve told you about their lives. Do small things to try and help them. (They will not know you are horrible, do not worry. They will just perceive that you are helping.)
Give people the benefit of the doubt. Remember that it’s more often stupidity to blame than evil, that everyone can screw up (including you) and what’s important is learning from that.
Think “What would an actually kind person do now?” – and do that. Don’t beat yourself up when you fail. Just be as kind to yourself as you will be to others – even if you have to fake that.
And good luck.

I got diagnosed with anxiety 2 years ago, it was hard to continue to live a 'normal' life bcs my family expects me to be a person who is fully capable of everything. Ive just lost who I am these days, i can hardly communicate with people. Im just tired, everyday. Idk man. What should I do to get better? I dont wanna give up on myself just yet
First thing: normal is just an illusion society creates in order to try and pressure us all into conforming to crappy ideals.
Whilst it may feel isolating at times, you definitely aren’t alone and I would argue we all experience some degree of anxiety. I’m not a doctor so I can’t comment on your treatment, but for me there are different things that help when I’m feeling anxious. Mantras, meditation, rest, exercise, tidying up (no idea), gaming – find the things that help you with your day to day and go slow.
The best progress is gradual progress, small daily challenges and changes are the best ways to heal. I know it sounds cliche but ‘a journey of a thousand miles starts with just one step’ is so unbelievably true.
There are a bunch of articles and tips that I think you’d might like to read, hope they help. I’d also really recommend you spoke to your doctor and if possible, explore options of CBT therapy - I know it has a high success rate for anxiety. Remember that anxiety doesn’t define you and is treatable.
Hope this helps a little on your journey,
Liam x

“It’s the kind of invisible heartbreak that makes the world spin slower. All at once, it’s too difficult to breathe. Her thoughts make the overbearing silence too loud. Her heart constricts and the lump in her throat threatens to choke her. Nonetheless, she forces her searing tears to sink back into her eyes, seeping into her soul, filling her with sadness until she’s a drop away from combustion. Here she stands tall, frozen in pain, while everyone praises her for being strong.”

Hahaha I’m a functional adult that can use the phone no problem, yep, definitely *sweats*. In all seriousness, I’ve had a huge problem with doing phone calls most of my life and have made huge progress with it to the point that I can sound almost normal during them. The build up to a call is still pure agony though.

Using Tapping to Ease Anxiety
Tumblr media
Tapping is an Emotional Freedom Technique that uses acupressure to help alleviate anxiety and stress. EFT gurus also suggest repeating particular mantras while tapping, or tapping particular areas to target specific worries, but just the tapping alone can help to calm you down, especially if you are sensitive to touch. Follow along and see if it works for you 💖
