one thing that's great about the song of ice and fire books is the way nobody ever knows what the fuck is going on. like somebody in a bar will be like "long live good king renly!" and somebody else will be like "oh he died. like a month ago. yeah lady catelyn stark stabbed him" and somebody else will be like "actually I heard he was stabbed by a shadow his brother fathered on a priestess" and a fourth person will be like "wait didn't renly literally just win the battle of king's landing last week" and then they're all like "well, whatever. long live good king whoever it is now. next round's on me"

worst thing about asoiaf? not enough descriptions of direwolf puppy and/or dragon newtlet shenanigans

like imagine viserion and rhaegal learning to fly and but tripping over their own claws and face planting. imagine the starklings giving their pups a bowl of water for the first time, and they just dunk their snout in it bc they don’t know how to drink properly yet. imagine ghost going through a growth spurt that ONLY hits his ears, and the night’s watch spends a whole shift making noises at ghost to make his dumbo ears pop up. rhaegal shedding for the first time and rubbing himself on Dany’s arm, asking her for help. I neeeeeed it

lines that i generally interpret as foreshadowing for arya crossing paths with a greyjoy. she considered flying away and specifically mentions seeing 1. the titan 2. dragons 3. sea monsters. arya has seen the titan and she will see dragons too (no doubt) so idt the sea monster ref is random. 

“Which bloody king is dead, crone?” Lem demanded. “The wet one. The kraken king, m'lords. I dreamt him dead and he died, and the iron squids now turn on one another.” 

“I dreamt of a man without a face, waiting on a bridge that swayed and swung. On his shoulder perched a drowned crow with seaweed hanging from his wings.” (Arya, ASOS)

"Show me this dragon’s egg.” “I threw it in the sea during one of my dark moods.” Euron gave a shrug. (Victarion, AFFC)

theres also the faceless men connection. euron likely paid the FM with a dragon’s egg to kill balon. they demand a high price to assassinate royalty. arya hears about this from the ghost of high heart with a clear ref to euron. she is now an acolyte herself with the FM. 

based off the ferry crossing scene alone it doesnt seem that arya’s crossing back to westeros is going to be uneventful. euron is gunning for dany but i think arya might get caught in the middle…..for some reason.

I know I talk about it a lot, but it's the heart and home stuff that really gives me pause in regards to how much Jon and Arya mean to one another. It's not just the comparisons between Ygritte and Arya, or Arya constantly being on Jon's mind and vice versa, or even the fact that George intended for the two of them to dream of each other, but that she's called a dark heart and he calls his own heart black.

"You are cruel to come to my hill, cruel. I gorged on grief at Summerhall, I need none of yours. Begone from here, dark heart. Begone!" (Arya VIII, ASoS)

But the dark heart has another significance as well—it's a connector to Rhaegar. Robert said Rhaegar had a black heart and yet the one who made him happy enough to label the tower the tower of joy was Lyanna, who is very much so Arya's precursor.

It's the connections. They are fascinating.

the thing that bothers me about dragon riders is that the dragon absolutely does not have to let you climb on its back. your ability to 'ride' the dragon is entirely dependent on the dragon allowing you to do that. it could fly just fine without you sitting there. which means you are not a dragon rider, not really. that beast is not your pet. you're the dragon's pet. you're its trophy wife.
