hi everyone. I'm about to post a few new one shots and the next chapter of Blood Red and Revenge or Revolution but I have a few questions

As I mentioned in my get to know me post, I won a writing contest last year at my college and I was wondering if you would like me to post my story? Or better yet turn it into a fic? (it wouldn't be hard, it's just a few names that would need to be changed) Let me know.

ALSO, I'm writing an essay for my class that talks about how the ballad of songbirds and snakes enhances the original Hunger Games trilogy. Would you like me to post that when I'm done with it? I know the analysis of that topic is really popular right now.

I don't have clear dates on when the fics will be posted but they are almost done or in the editing and revising process.

Hey, idk if you’re open for request. But i was just wondering if you’d write a mattheo riddle x fem!reader with a story like from taylor swift song betty. But ends with mattheo crashing the readers party and serenading her with that song and approached her as he sings the last verse of the song and when the part that goes “i’m only 17 i don’t know anything, but i know i miss you. Standing in your cardigan. Kissin in my car again. Stopped at the streetlight you know i miss you” comes one of his hand reached for her arm caressing her cardigan and then moved to caress her cheeks looking at ther lovingly as she stood frozen as the spotlight was on both of them.

It could start from angst to fluff where they ended up kissing after he sang the song in front of everyone.

I can't imagine Mattheo Riddle, son of Voldemort, doing this sober no matter how soft you make him. He would have to be black-out drunk.

"No, let me finish." His voice is slurring and everyone at the party is staring at him. "I learned this song for youuuu."

He's not going to remember this in the morning, making it even funnier.

"Betty- fuck how does it go? Shit..." he thinks and takes a swig out of a bottle. "Oh! Kiss me in front of your stupid friends!" There's an awkward silence as all your friends are peering behind your shoulder watching him. The only noise comes from the Slytherin gang laughing at him. "Wait, no. Not that part." He then clears his throat and smiles at you. "I'm only 17, I don't know fucking anything but I know I miss you."

You're a bit embarrassed but he memorized a muggle song for you. It's not the singing that made you forgive him, it was just terrible so that's impossible. It was the thought behind him singing of him going out and buying the tools needed to listen to muggle music.

Also credit to whoever invented Mattheo Riddle. I can't look it up rn because I'm in class writing this but you are a real one. Same with Lorenzo and whoever fleshed out Theo

Random Marauders Head-cannon I have:

The Black family are vegetarians. Like hard-core, no exceptions. So when Sirius goes to Hogwarts he gets to eat meat for the first time and when Regulus goes he avoids it. Sirius’s love of meat only grows when he turns into a dog. When James and Remus joke about how he’s turning his back on his family all he says is “I’m a dog.”

Happy version: when regulus moves to the Potter’s house with Sirius, Sirius makes Regulus try meat. He becomes obsessed and you can find the pair eating midnight turkey sandwiches together.

This is more of a question for the fanfic author community at large. Recently I had someone tell me they were writing a fic based on my fic. I was obviously flattered by it. But when their fic was posted, it was basically a re-write of exactly what I'd written. And that made me feel uncomfortable, because my story was a very specific AU. I know in fandom/fanfic anything goes and people are free to do what they want. Who am I to say 'no you can't write this'? I brushed it off and let it go. But it just got me internally asking: what are some rules of decorum around fics inspired by other fics? Can I as an author say it made me uncomfortable? If author A is writing something based on author B's work, is it expected for author A to tell author B about it? I welcome any other discussion on this topic that I didn't cover in my questions because I'm curious to see what others think! Thanks!

I'm not going to lie to you, anon, this one can be a bit of a minefield.

There's a tradition? (if that's the right word) in fandom of asking permission before writing a work inspired by someone else's fanwork.

While we don't do this with the creators of canon, we also don't share a community with the creators of canon. In fandom spaces, everyone knows everyone to a certain degree. This might be less true now that fandom has exploded in popularity in recent years, but even so.

I personally love when someone writes something inspired by my work, and I've written a few fics inspired by others too. It's part of that community sharing that I value so much in fandom.

But the minefield comes in when the original fan author feels like the "inspired by" fic is a little too close to their own.

Emotions can be fraught in online spaces where tone is hard to convey over text and there tends to be an assumption of the worst motives and interpretations rather than the best.

You're definitely well within your rights to feel uncomfortable about what that other person wrote. I'm not going to tell you that your emotions are wrong or unfounded. In fact, I'd likely feel the same way if I were in your place.

What you do about that feeling is your own decision to make. Do you just sit on it and hope it goes away? Do you reach out to that other author and say something about it? Do you just vent to a friend and get it out that way?
