Ruby Unleashed
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my first comic, i technically started making earlier last month... But because of Ya'know what, i needed some time.
This art was done to both celebrate 2 of the series i hold dearest to me, RWBY & Dragon Ball, as well as a Tribute to Akira Toriyama.
Thank you for everything, Toriyama... You were number one.

To further add to this point, what did Ruby say to Yang when they first reunited in EA?
"If you think we wouldn't come after you, then you forgot who raised me"
She is clearly talking about Yang here. Heck, we even see in V3 that when Ruby tries to seek advice or comfort, she goes to Yang, the person Ruby actually knows she can be vulnerable around, at least at that point in the story.
While TaiYang clearly loves his kids, there's clear signs of parentification with Yang & more importantly, favoritism towards Ruby. While Tai is willing to be there for Ruby & help her in anyway we can, he's not as willig to do so with Yang... Not unless she stops "moping", as he put it... Yeah, great job there, Tai, treat your daughter's recent traumatic experience as MOPING... It doesn't help that 2 teachers that were in the same room as them not only treated Yang's issues as it should be, but actually give her USEFUL advice, unlike her father.
The fact that both Tai AND Qrow are willing to compare Yang to the woman that literally left them when Yang was a newborn is something not a lot of people talk about, cause when you sit down & think about it, it's really messed up & unfair to Yang.
So no, Tai being an emotionally neglectful father & essentially letting Yang do most of the parent work is NOT inconsistent writing.
genuine question: do people want bad, inconsistent writing? is that it? because that's the only way "taiyang is and always has been a horrible father and yang had to raise ruby all on her own and she resent him for it" makes any damn sense.
like. where's the resentment?
where is yang, while happy that ruby is one step closer to achieving her lifelong dream, feeling just slightly frustrated that she's once again sharing a room with her sister, when going to beacon was supposed to be a place just for her for at least two years without having to watch after ruby and feel guilty over it?
where's the resentment when tai sent zwei to the girls to be taken care of while he's away on a mission, placing that responsibility on yang again? why show yang instead being flippant about the whole ordeal, and shrugging it off like it's nothing, being ready to leave zwei alone in the dorm room for the week they're away because he has the absurd amount of food and a can opener tai provided them?
where's yang bringing up how she had to apparently grow up early because tai wasn't there, when she wanted to be treated like an adult?
where's the resentment when yang was about to leave home under the assumption it was her keeping her father from going after ruby, only to find out he isn't coming with her, once again leaving the responsibility of taking care of ruby on her shoulders?
because the show i watched, it doesn't exist. to even remotely get to that point you'd have to ignore ruby talking about their dad in a way that makes it clear he was present and raising them, you'd have to ignore yang having to wait for him to be out of the house to leave herself once again proving he was present and attentive of them, you'd have to ignore ruby's first happy memory being from that same time period (and with no corresponding sad memory to counter it), you'd have to ignore him reading them bedtime stories and taking them out for boba after school, making sure he's spending time with them even when he's busy with work.
you'd have to ignore that both yang and ruby have a good relationship with their father.
that is not to say tai doesn't have his flaws—every damn character in this show does—, but that's exactly what V4 is about. the rift that existed between yang and taiyang was his refusal to talk about raven and doing his best to prevent her from looking for her. that's it. just compare the difference in tone between yang's "oh, so now we can talk about her?" and "i don't know. some things you just need to be there for." and it's clear as a day where the resentment actually lies.
therein lies the core of the arc between yang and tai, and like many issues between characters in this show, it gets resolved: for the first time ever, he properly talks with yang about raven, and when yang is about to leave, he doesn't try to stop her like he has before; instead, he asks her where she's going, and gives information that might help make her journey easier.
if they intended there to be any lingering resentment from yang, 'boba' was not the way to do it. we know what yang's resentment looks like: anger, snappiness, the like. it's not quiet, almost somber.
they could have written yang treating tai's absence in vacuo as something she has come to expect from him, but they didn't; instead, she wonders why, because she can't fathom what could be more important for their father than being there, in vacuo, with them.
and that alone comes as validation for everyone who has wondered the same: why is tai staying in patch when everyone else is on the move? this is a character we're first properly introduced to as a father who has fallen asleep by his daughter's bedside waiting for her to wake up, a father who is almost brought to tears by relief that both of his daughters are back home and safe.
a father we last saw being absolutely desperate for his daughter to come back on screen when ruby's message cut short.
and beyond brings a sledgehammer and says yes, it is odd that taiyang hasn't left home to be by his daughters' side. wonder why that is, must be something important, wink wink ;)
and if you ask me, that sounds like a pretty damn good "long con", and damn good writing.

My condolences, mate
I usually don't complain when people block me because, you know, whatever.
I will when people LIE about me blocking them first.
Strqyr is a liar, They blocked me over a single sentence reply that criticized their defense of Tai's neglect.
I'm so done with anyone who defends him because it's almost always from a place of dishonesty.

I second that, Citadel
Tai seems to be the only one of STRQ who doesn’t get any leeway it seems. Imho, they all suck right now until they start trying to make up for what they’ve done. But I’ve seen special hate towards Tai ever since he first showed up while people seem to instantly forgive Qrow, Raven, and Summer.
Well, it's hard to "forgive" Summer when we still don't know what happened. All we know is that she knew the odds were against her.
Qrow has been actively trying to be better and succeeding.
Raven...well, the bit of her in the epilogue and Beyond Ep 1 showed a level of engagement with the situation that she hasn't had in ages. Time will tell if she can earn back Yang's trust.
But Tai? Tai hasn't done squat since V4. Like literally nothing. If he's not going to make an effort or even realize the issues he's caused then I'm not sure why anyone should grant him leeway.

While Rhodes clearly expressed dislike towards child slavery, he didn’t have the guts to actually try to do something about it cause said child slavery is legal... For some goddamn reason...
I mean, technically Rhodes was risking himself just by training cinder in the first place, he may have truly believed that running away meant she’d always be running
The fact he was secretly training her at all was potentially against the law
Answer me something: What actual risk was Rhodes putting himself in by training Cinder? What ACTUAL repercussions might he have faced if it were found out that he was training a young 'servant' (BIG-ass airquotes there) girl? A slap on the wrist? A scolding perhaps? Being banned from the establishment? Like you said, he was only potentially breaking the law.
You know what WOULD have been breaking the law? What would have been a REAL risk for Rhodes to take in order to help Cinder? Getting her out of that hotel.
But he didn't do that, did he?
You can give Rhodes all the sympathetic hand-wringing you like, at the end of the day, Midnight made it abundantly clear EXACTLY how far Rhodes was actually willing to go to help Cinder:
Right up to the point where helping Cinder would require him to break the law. After that? Well that's just too bad. The law which, mind you, was totally okay with child slavery.
When it came down to either helping an abused, tortured young girl, or upholding 'The System', Rhodes picked the system.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Rhodes was not a 'bad' guy, but he also wasn't an especially good guy either. At least not where and when it truly MATTERED to be good.

I never thought about it that way
That's really cool
*claws blanket aside*
People are really out here saying that RWBY has poor writing or whatever when they just put the line “Oh…you painted it?!” in to clearly establish that Pietro Polendina is the man responsible for making Yang’s new arm, as well as to convey his wonder and joy at the beauty of what happened, and to deepen the meaning behind Yang obtaining her new limb.
Which she painted herself.
She made it a part of herself and she wasn’t really…supposed to? Like, it was just supposed to be a new arm. Here, put it in the socket, hook it up, and you’re good to go. But she wasn’t satisfied at that. She needed to color it. She put her own spin on it, picked a beautiful shade of yellow, and gave it life. Yang healed herself, and when she walked forward and Pietro saw her, he realized just how much he had accomplished and how much she had pushed past his expectations.
Also, he saw that she was back on her feet and that she’d actually come all this way. His voice indicates that he’d never expected to see that arm come back, but when it did, he wasn’t surprised that it was here, but simply that it had been painted. It’s such a great line. Also, he immediately recognizes his own craftsmanship…this is a guy who knows his stuff. He’s good, he’s a master, but he’s not used to seeing someone push his work further because he’s supposed to be The Best. When Pietro Polendina makes you a thing, you don’t need to improve it because it’s already the best, but here’s this girl who took his silver and turned it into gold.
And he loves that.
It’s such a good character moment.
*pulls blanket back over himself and tries to sleep again*

Yeah, pretty much
I'm all for pain and suffering, but like... RWBYJ definitely didnt have it easy in the Ever After. You know, considering everything they went through with the Cat, Neo, the jabberwalker, Ruby ascending... I wouldnt exactly call that easy and painfree plot armor. Though, the people making that claim wouldnt know plot armor if it bit them in the ass.
The Bees had like a few trauma free hours but tbh that's all. Everything else was essentially a rollercoaster of trauma, grief and fear.

I'm not sure if Mistral is much better.
The first & most important reason: They jackshit when it comes to defenses. All of Mistral's top ranking Huntsmen are dead because of Lionheart's betrayal, leaving Argus as the only place left in Anima that would have a reasonable defense force... & Guess what? That's STILL really small.
What's more, it's Atlesian Defenses, so once that shit runs out, they can't get more due to Atlas being gone. So sending random random refuges to Mistral wouldn't be much better... & That's BEFORE taking into account how crowded the populated places in Anima are.
& While yes, Vacuo is in a desert terrain & has very dangerous Grimm, the Grimm in Anima aren't any less dangerous either... If anything, they'd pose MORE of a threat since the folks would HAVE to leave outside of Kingdom Boarders every now & then to gather food & supplies.
So I'd argue Mistral would not have been a good choice over Vacuo because of those reasons. As much as Vacuo sucks, at least they have a decently sized & strong enough fighting force with them, Mistral doesn't.
NEVER DOUBT ME

RWBY 90s Drip
I don't usually post art without shading, but i wanna make this special, so i'm posponing the final product until i'm able to find some help with the background for this one.
In the meantime, take this flat-color piece for now. I think the end result's great

Truuuue
RWBY is literally a show where it keeps telling everyone to pay closer attention to the details beyond the initial aesthetic, but everyone keeps on ignoring it and getting mad when they inevitably run into a brick wall that RWBY is explicitly telling them is in their way.
Like, I'm expected to believe that they're deep "critical" thinkers who just see RWBY as bad, when they struggle to understand anything beyond the most surface level thoughts?
On a side note, it's also part of the reason I'm just thoroughly annoyed with their fixation on Monty. Because the irony is that for all of their outward adulation, their understanding of the man is so...shallow.
Constantly whining about the series being "woke", when one of his major hallmark videos that introduced us to him involved two women finding love in each other after spending years of their lives fighting to survive and protect others (Haloid)?
Basically treating Miles and Kerry like coattail riding hanger ons who stole RWBY from him for their own greed and agenda, despite the likelihood that if he were still alive, HE'D be getting lumped in with them and treated like the (derogatory) George Lucas of Web Animation because his own ideas probably weren't that dramatically different from theirs? And let's not forget their absolute disdain and disregard for his brother's opinion on the matter...
It's all so performative and resoundingly missing the point of his legacy that I'm frankly surprised they haven't popped their heads off from the sheer amount of logical twisting they have to do.
I've said this before but it bears repeating. There are no wasted moments in RWBY. I'm still shocked how many people miss things like the V4 time difference between Blake in Menagerie and the rest of the girls in Haven or even the Blake/Yang vs Adam fight taking place several minutes in the past compared to the fight against Cordovin.
I respect Monty, without him there would be no RWBY but without Kerry and Miles the RWBY we know wouldn't exist. This show has always been a collaborative effort from writers to artists to animators to musicians.

"RWBY is literally a show where it keeps telling everyone to play closer attention to the details beyond the initial aesthetic"
I'm not sure if that's completely true since some characters don't really follow that trend, mainly the villains.
Ex: Ironwood was introduced as someone who did, to put it bluntly, very stupid shit & couldn't be trusted... What do you know? That's exactly what ended up happening. Same with Adam, he was introduced as this dark, aggressive man who couldn't give 2 shits about the consequences or casualties that take place... That's what we ended up getting in the end.
I guess the only exception to that rule (with the villains, to be specific) would be Salem & Cinder, where they were introduced as threatening, but not having a lot of depth... Turns out, they ended up having tons of depth.
RWBY is literally a show where it keeps telling everyone to pay closer attention to the details beyond the initial aesthetic, but everyone keeps on ignoring it and getting mad when they inevitably run into a brick wall that RWBY is explicitly telling them is in their way.

Took a look at some of my blocked accounts to see if @staff ever took action on the ones I've reported.
Of course not, not even the one who explicitly said that all trans people should die.
So, yeah. Tumblr still has major transphobia issues. I don't care how many LGBTQA+ people they get to make posts about it.

THIS is a mega folder containing literally everything rwby-related that is available right now on roosterteeth (+v9). rwby, fairytales, world of remnant, the grimm campaign, ice queendom (sub and dub), vtubing, all the behind-the-scenes stuff. everything.
plus soundtracks for every volume + IQ, and drm-free epubs.
i will add any additional rwby content released during the wind down period as it becomes available. V1-8 have an english subtitle track embedded in the files, V9 does not because it came from CR. IQ dub has english subtitles. and for the sake of completeness i pulled all the non-english subs available on CR for V1-9 as well, those are in there as loose .ass files for the time being.
whenever possible, buy physical media. learn how to strip drm out of digital content that you own and make it a habit to do so.
archive responsibly 👍
