I'm gonna take this ask at face value and give you an honest answer. I view any RPF as a genre of AU. As implied in the acronym, I'm simply writing fiction about real people. None of it is anything I think is actually happening, it's just a fantasy about those people. I'm not trying to interpret their true lives, I'm interpreting my own fictional version of it. I hope that makes sense.
