Indigenous-led resistance to 21 fossil fuel projects in the U.S. and Canada over the past decade has stopped or delayed an amount of greenhouse gas pollution equivalent to at least one-quarter of annual U.S. and Canadian emissions.
This is despite an onslaught of attacks against Indigenous activists over the past few years. Over the last few years, victories won against projects through direct actions have led to more than 35 states enacting anti-protest laws, jail time for protestors, thousands of dollars of fines, and even the killing of prominent activists.
Indigenous rights and responsibilities “are far more than rhetorical devices — they are tangible structures impacting the viability of fossil fuel expansion.” Through physically disrupting construction and legally challenging projects, Indigenous resistance has directly stopped projects expected to produce 780 million metric tons of greenhouse gases every year and is actively fighting projects that would dump more than 800 million metric tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year.
The analysis, which used publicly released data and calculations from nine different environmental and oil regulation groups, found that roughly 1.587 billion metric tons of annual greenhouse gas emissions have been halted. That’s the equivalent pollution of approximately 400 new coal-fired power plants — more than are still operating in the United States and Canada — or roughly 345 million passenger vehicles — more than all vehicles on the road in these countries.
“From an Indigenous perspective, when we are confronting the climate crisis we are inherently confronting the systems of colonization and white supremacy as well,” Goldtooth said. “In order to do that, you have to reevaluate how you relate to the world around you and define what your obligations are to the world around you. It’s more than just stopping fracking development and pipelines and it’s more than just developing clean energy, it’s about actually fundamentally changing how we see the world itself.”

Sometimes I just want to share one thing but I'm constantly thinking of a hundred others they're all going at once and it keeps going because Israel's monstrosity is literally endless.
Do I want to tell you about the 30 decomposed bodies discovered inside of dumpsters and under rubble with their hands tied behind them in northern Gaza? (Story still developing)
Do I want to show you the video of the hospital room where 3 Palestinians were killed by Israel undercover agents at point blank where you literally see a bullet hole in the pillow? (Video report)
Do I remind you that there are no updates on Hind, the 5 year old who has been trapped in a car surrounded by her family's corpses? (Story)
Or do I bring attention to the 100 stolen bodies that were returned to Gaza by Israel yesterday, most of whom are unrecognisable and many are missing body parts? (Full update)
Or do I tell you about the boy waving a white flag who was shot multiple times as he tried to flee, followed by his brother who was shot in the heart as he tried to rescue him? Or the fact that the entire family watched as their two sons got executed in front of their eyes? (Full story)
Where do we even begin? Where does it end?

I saw someone recommend this booklet on another social media platform and thought it would be important to share it here too! It's called "Advocating for Palestine" and it's meant to help dismantle zionist propaganda. It's only a few pages long and options to read in various languages. It's very informative so please share!!

If anyone wants to purchase an esim to provide internet access to Palestinians but haven't yet, you can use my Nomad referral code LYDI79TR for $3 off your first purchase! With this code esims are as low as $6, and this is a way you can immediately help someone in Gaza who might otherwise not be able to make contact with their loved ones.

Just to hone in on the last point I made here about the enormous efforts of journalists in Gaza right now, in the video above you can see Palestine TV's correspondent, Amr Aldahudi, collapse on air due to exhaustion.
These journalists are literally beyond the point of exhaustion. They are starving and freezing. Most of these journalists live in tents around where they are stationed and suffer greatly during difficult weather conditions as most of them had lost their belongings and can't even go back to their destroyed homes. They are separated from their loved ones and many had to receive the news of the killing of their family members while on duty.
Zionists will have you believe that a Palestinian journalist born and raised in Gaza, reporting from inside Gaza while dodging Israeli airstrikes is someone you should not trust. Palestinians are doing the impossible, literally losing their lives, just to let the word out about their catastrophe for over 100 days now. Amplify their voices, share their posts and stories and make sure they remain visible and that those 100+ journalists who were killed reporting aren't gone in vain. This is the bare minimum we can do from the comfort of wherever we are right now.

making this post and then going back to bed.
so my uncle had a stroke back in 2021, and my ma has been taking care of him since it happened, living with him in new york and taking him to his appointments and stuff.
he recently got news that he'd be a good candidate for a procedure with stem cells that would help him regain more cognitive function, and he wants to go for it! downside - it's $11k. eleven thousand american dollars.
so my ma set up a gofundme. if y'all could share it, that'd be cool. anything helps!

Kinda wacky of me to be funding for other people when I don't even got a $100 in my account but um. We move, and we do not think about the struggles. Maybe a little blog rent, since Black history month is in a few days. $50 rent for white people, and I'm not joking. Send receipts over DM.

A Jewish prayer shawl worn by Levi Simon, a British man fighting for the Israeli army in Gaza who filmed himself rummaging through women’s underwear in an abandoned Palestinian home, belonged to a celebrated Holocaust survivor who warned of the dangers of hatred and racism. Social media footage posted in November shows Simon wearing the shawl, known as a tallit, in a building in Gaza. “This tallit I am wearing belonged to a Holocaust survivor by the name of Zigi. I am right now inside of Gaza writing ‘Am Yisrael Chai’ to make sure nothing like this will ever happen again,” Simon says in the clip, drawing a Star of David and writing the Hebrew phrase meaning “the people of Israel live” on the wall. According to the accompanying text, the tallit was donated by the family of Zigi Shipper, a survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau and other Nazi camps from Lodz, Poland, who moved to the UK after the Second World War and died last January aged 93. But a close friend and fellow survivor told Middle East Eye he believed Shipper would have been "astounded and upset" to learn of the way in which his tallit had been used in Gaza. “He would have been as heartbroken as I am because neither of us imagined anything like that would be witnessed by us,” Manfred Goldberg, who met Shipper in 1944 when both were working as slave labourers at a camp in modern-day Poland, told MEE. Asked whether he would have been concerned by the conduct of Israeli forces, Goldberg added: “How can you ask such a question? Who is not upset? Zigi was a very outspoken person. He made a lot more noise than I did. He would have been beside himself.” [...] “Zigi and I had an unbreakable bond because of our experience in the camps. I know him better than I know more or less any person on earth,” said Goldberg. In his later life, Shipper was renowned for his decades of work promoting awareness of the Holocaust in countless talks to schoolchildren and through media interviews. In 2017, he was among 112 Holocaust survivors whose testimonies were recorded as part of a United Kingdom Holocaust Memorial project. “I want young people to know, especially young people, what happened because of racism and most importantly, hatred,” Shipper has been quoted as saying by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.
and, more on what simon has been posting . . .
In one clip, Simon waves an Israeli flag in a school where, he says, “they teach terrorism”, adding: “We’re here, we’re here to stay, we’re not going to take your terror, and they’re going to start teaching Hebrew in this school soon." In another clip, he says he is going through “terrorist houses” looking for guns and explosives and then opens a drawer and starts pulling out and displaying women’s underwear, which he describes as "exotic lingerie".
. . . full article on MEE (26 Jan 2024)
