So I'm not doing an official Journal 52 challenge this year; even though I did complete the weeks for 2022, I ended up leaving them in my notebooks instead of scanning. Also. Words. Not necessarily my strong suit sometimes.
So for this year (2023) I'm just going to share random art as I get it done and scanned.
Saw some lovely work at a market and decided to try to recreate some of effects in my own preferred media. This is done with FineTec Pearlescent watercolors and gold foil.
The amount of movement in Takehiko Inoue's pieces is utterly phenomenal. I particularly like the very stark ink pieces. I aimed for that sketchy movement and of course picked another dancer.
This piece is based on a photo of Yannick Lebrun from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater taken for the NYC Dance Project.
Prompt: calligraphy piece of a quote from your favorite book or movie/TV show. It would be interesting if you could style the text or add sketches to the piece so that someone who doesn't know the quote can understand the context it came from.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is still one of my favorite comfort films. And yes, I do use the quote "Everybody, remember where we parked" in everyday life :D

INPRNT is having a 15% off sale this weekend through Sunday! I've added a few new pieces, and as always let me know if there's something you're looking for that I haven't listed yet.
(I'm also going to be working on posting my J52 work that is done but hadn't been digitized!)
Between various travel events for work, I have been less able to do art regularly, much less scan and post it. I'm hoping to start catching up over the next few months :)
I'm also still looking for prompts--there are seventeen more slots left to fill! Feel free to message/dm me if you have ideas.
I'm still learning how to do pull tabs and pop ups! Here's one of two humpback whales on a wheel that turns, allowing them to jump in and out of the water.
Week 10: Inspired by the Art of David Mack
6 March 2022 — 12 March 2022
A friend sent me a few pieces of art by David Mack and suggested I try interpreting his style in my own and see what happened. I used an image of of PeiJu Chien-Pott for NYC Dance Project as the basis for this painting and added quotes about dancing.
It has pencil, colored pencil, watercolor, gouache and ink added in layers.
The quotes read:
"Dance is your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing" — Jacques d’Amboise, American ballet dancer and choreographer
"Dance can reveal everything mysterious hidden in music" — Charles Baudelaire
"Dance is sacred. It is a prayer for the future, a remembrance of the past and a joyful exclamation of thanks for the present.” —from Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
ID: Woman with black hair pulled back in a tight bun with gold decorations throws a red shawl/cape/fabric embroidered in gold into the air, her arms are still upraised.
Messed around with layering tissue and metallic gouache this week. It's amazing how dense the silver gouache needs to be to show up on such an absorbent surface!
