You know what I can’t get over? The fact that on two separate occasions Jason Grace was involved in a prophecy that gave him a choice between his own life and one of his best friends’ lives. This happened TWICE.

And it sucks enough that that sort of thing might happen once in your lifetime. But twice is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Jason survives when his life is pit against Leo’s. Miraculously they both come out of it alive. And then almost immediately his life is pit against Piper’s. And he’s always the common denominator. His head is always one of two on the chopping block. No wonder he decided to take the hit. Anyone would pick up on that hint. Like how could he not take that personally, as a sign that the fates fucking hate him and want him dead?

And it sucks and it’s so unfair because Jason really never gets the chance to just be happy and be with his friends. He doesn’t get to have friends without an ultimatum of one of them dying very soon.

He got to spend some time without that kind of choice hanging over him in The Lost Hero, sure. But it’s not like it was a relaxing trip. And he didn’t know them. He was still only tentatively becoming their friend. Almost as soon as they settle in with each other and decide the three of them are besties, they get told by the end of their next quest either Jason or Leo will be dead. So all through the Argo II quest, they have that hanging over them whenever they hang out. Kind of a bummer.

And then it turns out okay, not great, but okay. And they’re somewhat optimistic. But they barely get, what? A couple of months?? for he and Piper to hang out before he gets told that either he or Piper are going to die. Major bummer. He literally just got his head and his bestie’s head off the chopping block and now the fates are fucking shoving his head right back on it like Snape in study hall.

At absolute best, he got maybe two or so months while the Argo II was being built and they spent the summer at CHB to just hang out with his buds. But they still knew the prophecy, so that sort of sucked I’m guessing. But in the entire time we’ve followed Jason he’s had maybe two or three months to just be with his friends. It genuinely makes me so sad to think about. That must’ve been his summer of ‘69.

I mean. Give the kid a break, huh?

They tell you your the greatest

They placed him on a pedastal his entire life. He wasn't merely Jason Grace, he was the son of Jupiter. And with it came all the pressures and expectations that came with being the spawn of the King of Sky's himself.

Everything Jason ever did, every feat was not something to be celebrated. But expected from him, nothing else but perfection would ever be acceptable.

But once you turn they hate us

But the moment he defied his Father, the moment he decided for once in his life that he and his family deserved better. Deserved better that to simply be tools for war, that they deserved peace and more after all they'd suffered.

All he had suffered being his son.

Suddenly the praise and respect he'd been hand delivered since his birth, clattered to the ground. The cheers faded in the wind and all Jason could see was his father's gaze turn cold.

Oh the misery

Jason smiled, to anyone looking at him it appeared twisted and sinister but it was anything but. It was one of joy, what was there to be sad about? All his life he'd been raised in a cage. He'd done everything for them, fought every battle like it was his last, lost his home thrice and left without memories lost and lone.

Jason had broken free of their expectations and finally made his choice, what could he better?

Everybody wants to be my enemy

Jason didn't want war. He'd fought for peace, he wanted peace for all and to put an end to the bloodshed. They would say at heart Jason was a healer, a mediator, a diplomat. But what they failed to realise is that above all that he was a weapon.

He was not weak, you didn't survive the Wolf House of you were weak. They knew that so they tried to tame him. And now, now he'd finally found what it meant to fight without both hands tied behind his back.

And he was never going back.

If they chose to fight him, than he would fight. He'd already lost so much and who knows they probably would've abandoned him too if they'd had enough time. Much like every other meaningful bond in his life.

Jason didn't want that, but it was in the fates hands now. And if the world chooses to become his enemy than he would fight like he always had. It didn't matter who crossed him, be it friend nor foe he would not be contained.

He was a wolf, he didn't belong in a cage.

Spare the sympathy

They say he's lost his mind but he's never seen things more clear. They want him to come home, but he hasn't one. His home was with his mother and Thalia, with Lupa and than Camp Jupiter. Everything he's ever loved has perished before his eyes.

He would get no sympathy, a child of the big 3 going bad wouldn't suprise anyone. He could hear his father now, denying his existence and pretending he only had one golden child.

They didn't care for him, he had outlived his use and now they had an excuse to get rid of him.

Everybody wants to be my enemy

And so it began, but before he'd greet his father one last time, he wanted a few words with his wife.

Jason seeing his mother again, her being a literal ghost from his past. Its been so long and yet she looks exactly how his memories tell him. Her big poofy hair and a smile for the cameras, he can almost smell the perfume she used to wear.

And yet she's gone, his mother was destroyed by her own greif and suffering and the whispers of the past are all she has left.

Nothing but a spirit left to rot.

Jason seeing his father again, but it's Cupid messing with him. He adorns blue eyes that always seemed piercing even when Jason had only seen them on statues. His stands tall and proud, radiating power that Jason has always associated with his father.

And yet it's all a rouse, all a sick joke because Jason's never met his father and he would never look at him with kind eyes and spoke of pride in his son.

All there is left is the whispers Jason let's himself believe, being drawn into the illusion of the love he wants more than anything. Even beyond the grave, even beyond the skies he can never forget what he can't have.

For his mother's warm embrace, for father's praise but it's nothing but whispers in the dark.

If you told Jason to stay put, he would. Like he wouldn't move, unless the person who told him it in the first place was the one to say he could.

Naturally everyone thinks it's cos he was raised by wolves, definitely an explanation for most things Jason does.

But it's actually from his mum, who told him they were going to play a game. That he had to stay put and not move till she told him, alright it'll be fun okay Jason. Promise me you won't move till I say so.

So he waited.

He waited...the wolves came and they scared him but he waited.

Sometimes he wonders if he waited, if he followed her rules and kept his promise she would've come back
