I often find that I go through phases where I can write all dialogue, but no prose. And then other times where I can write lovely prose, but the dialogue is stilted and off. Anyone else find that?

And taking this further: would anyone mind if I just posted chunks of dialogue or prose? Out of context even?

I feel I should stick to what I have been saying for a while and just post things even if they are not done because they can spark ideas.

Halloween Headcanon: Troi LOVES Halloween and will go all out for Halloween. From decorating to dressing up in costumes (if there is no emergency of course) I can imagine her dressing up as the bride of Frankenstein and her convincing Data to dress up as Frankenstein. Happy Halloween! 👻

Deanna would be ALL FOR Halloween!

I know it's not really one of the celebrated holidays in TNG, but it is VERY FUN to think about the crew organizing an 'ancient Halloween night' just to shake things up.

And god, those costumes would be great!

I saw a gif yesterday from a game I really enjoyed called Observation.

SPOILERS for the game, but at the end the computer and human characters become one being. And that made me think about how Data and Deanna experience the world in very different ways and what a similar experience with them would be like.

They run into strange technology all the time on unexplored planets, in ruins, from other cultures etc. And the idea of a device that would put Deanna and Data, maybe not physically together in the same body, but link their senses and thoughts together briefly as if they were, is some kind of thing I’m enjoying thinking about.

In the game Observation, SAM (the computer) and Emma are clearly cohabiting Emma’s body. Speaking and thinking as one, but still separate people.

If this were a Star Trek episode, I would love to see how overwhelming this experience would be for either Data or Deanna, and I would wonder if this device was even meant to link artificial sentient beings to organic beings in the first place.

Is this a device they can take with them, or is it a device very firmly built on a planet? Do they have to be in constant contact with the device, or does it link them until the link can be reversed?

What was the original intended use of this device? Was it to help people communicate? To help see from other people’s point of view in negotiations?

And how does this experience affect their relationship? Is it positive or negative?

An image that keeps popping into my head is Deanna and Data in her quarters, both of their hands touching a smooth, black object on her table.

Despite Data’s rather even keeled nature, I keep thinking he would be the one to struggle with this. Could he form an addiction of sorts to it? Of linking to her?

And there are erotic implications too. Deanna isn’t a stranger to being in someone's mind, but this is different. This is being that other person in a way that goes beyond telepathy and her own empathy. To be able to be the skin being touched and the hands that are touching? A sort of pleasure squared. Data may not experience pleasure in the same sense, but the mix of his own sensory input and hers is an experience profoundly different for both of them.

Anyway, I like this concept a lot and I have decided it may live rent free in my brain all it wants.

Headcanon: after being in a long relationship with Data and his info-dumping, Deanna starts to info-dump too. Maybe not as long as Data though. So every time there's an opportunity, Deanna will dump some random interesting facts and information that she learned from Data. "You're becoming more like lieutenant Commander Data, Counselor Troi."

I don't have much to add to this one, but I think it's very cute!

What I do find interesting is that, to a degree, Deanna does already kind of do this, in her own way. She tends to tell people psychology stuff in a rote fashion. It's not bad, but it seems to be a fallback for her.

Headcanon: One of the best parts of being in a relationship with Data? Deanna can finally turn down suitors sent from her mother.

YES.

I mean, being real, there are a lot of positives to being with Data, but this is a HUGE benefit that should not be overlooked.

Lwaxana probably has a lot of opinions about Data (and she probably never forgave him for boring her to death in Manhunt). So Deanna would probably have to deal with a lot of complaining from her mother (though this is business as usual).

However, Lwaxana likes to exploit other people's sense of politeness in order to get what she wants, making things uncomfortable until people give in. What I mean is, she purposely does impolite things, relying on the fact that others will step in to try to mend the situation. This usually works out in her favour.

But, she just couldn't play Data that way. Not only does he absolutely lack the ability to read the social cues she's trying to play into, but even if he does pick up on what she wants, he would be firm and imperturbable.

He would be the worst thing you could ever be to Lwaxana Troi: immovable.

And what's worse?

Unreadable.

So not only does Deanna not have to deal with all those suitors (though I am sure Lwaxana has tried to deter her with other offers), but she can also take some joy in finally being with someone who really can handle her mother.

And what's more, Data being Data, he probably likes Lwaxana Troi.
