Building further on this: Luz is the reason Amity felt strong/brave enough to break free of her mother's control and take charge of her own life. Luz is the reason Amity rebuilt her friendship with Willow and was nicer to people. Luz is the reason Amity was able to, for the first time in a long time, actually be happy and feel loved and supported. So, when the time came for Amity to get her palisman, it was having Luz in her life that allowed her to unlock her deepest desire and bond with Ghost.
