UnwarRANTed: No One Asked, [BLANK] Delivered - The Seven Deadly Sins
WARNING: Spoilers for The Seven Deadly Sins (manga)
I've seen a lot of anime, shows, movies, and books. But I don't think I'll ever be as hurt as I was when Cath betrayed Arthur. That was a year ago and I still have not recovered. I'm so hurt...

UnwarRANTed: No One Asked, [BLANK] Delivered - My Hero Academia
WARNING: Spoilers for My Hero Academia (Manga)
One of my favorite things about My Hero Academia (and one of the reasons why it's one of my favorite anime/manga) is its ability to tackle so many aspects of society. It's truly a talent that I've seen in very few other works.
The 'war arc' is a prime example of this. My Hero Academia was already off to a strong start with its ideas about heroes and villains in the USJ (I think of Shigiraki's speech every day. Wonderful), but the war arc really faces these issues head-on. With Toya's video corrupting the public images of not only Hawks and Endeavor but hero society as a whole. Not only are the public questioning the heroes, but the readers are as well. It's fantastic.
I get so happy reading MHA sometimes because I'm such a sucker for stories that aren't afraid to tackle huge societal issues.

UnwarRANTed: No One Asked, [BLANK} Delivered - Anime Vs. Manga
I usually don't get into the whole 'the manga is better than the anime' or 'the anime is better than the manga', but lately, I've been thinking about it more and more. I can't say much about most series (sometimes reading the manga is more effort than it's worth), but I've seen both anime and manga for most mainstream series.
I feel that My Hero Academia and The Seven Deadly Sins are better in manga form. I think it's more a preference for the original art style and format than anything else. Then again, I haven't seen season four of My Hero Academia, yet. I'm not sure I really want to go through the Eri and Festival arcs again, to be completely honest. I think I just have a preference for manga. It's ironic, considering how I want to be an animator.
On the other hand, I do like Haikyuu's anime better than the manga. I feel the manga was a bit lackluster at times (though still very well done). The anime has a charm about it, an incredible sense of emotion that can only truly be captured in animation (if you don't believe me, take a look at A Silent Voice, Weathering With You, and Your Name. Truly astounding).
I'd like to do a post ranking all the manga and anime I've seen, but I'm indecisive. Though, that was probably already obvious. Ranking my ten favorite anime characters was hard enough. My original idea for those posts was to rank my favorite characters in all forms of media, but that was too much of a challenge. Maybe I'll do that again when I can actually make up my mind on something. Or maybe not...

UnwarRANTed: No One Asked, [BLANK] Delivered - Future Rants
[BLANK] - It's 10:15 and 15 minutes before I have to post something. I have nothing lined up and no posts that can be completed in fifteen minutes (turns out agreeing to commit many hours to multiple projects at once can be a bit overwhelming and leaves you with no free time. Who knew?), so here are a few ideas for rants in the future. I have many more ideas, but these were the few that I could get down in the fifteen-minute time frame.
- Bo Burnham's 'Can't Handle This' and 'Art is Dead'
- Bo Burnham Netflix Specials: 'Make Happy' and 'What'
- Netflix Documentary: 'What The Health'
- Season 1-6 Break-Downs: 'The Flash'
- Movie Rant: 'Bumblebee'
- Movie Rant: 'The Greatest Showman'
- Movie Rant: My Hero Academia Movie Trio (on hold until the third movie is released in America, probably the end of 2021)
- Series Rant: Popular T.V. Series Genres

I've recently (and by recently I mean about an hour ago) begun watching 'Devilman Crybaby' because I've heard good things about it. I'm also trying to watch more anime, as I took a pretty long break from it.
If you guys have any anime recommendations (or t.v show/movies in general), please don't hesitate to tell me. I'm always looking for something new to become obsessed with.

UnwarRANTed: No One Asked, [BLANK] Delivered - 'Cord-Cutting' and Why It Might Soon Be As Problematic As Cable
[BLANK] - This topic is a bit different than what I usually cover on this blog, but topics like this are what really sparked my interest in media in the first place. For more information on this topic (and my inspiration for this post), please take a look at Drew Gooden's YouTube video, linked below. I'd also like to say that the reason I mention services such as Netflix and Hulu so much is that not only are they some of the biggest contributors in this specific industry, but they are the only two I have first-hand experience with. To make up for that, I've done extensive research into this topic and gotten opinions from others who have used other platforms. I hope that I can accurately represent this topic with this information.
Television is a Confusing, Expensive Mess - Drew Gooden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va4P3RKW7T0
- Introduction: Technological Progression and Streaming Services -
As the twenty-first century arrived, so did many new technologies. Knowledge, progression, and productivity sky-rocketed in many fields such as science, engineering, and electronics. Television is an example of this, with astonishing progress from many different contributors.
As television has progressed, especially in recent years, many 'cord-cutting' options have become available. With various streaming services, a few of the more prominent of which being Hulu and Netflix, coming into the limelight, cable has become inherently obsolete.
- How Cable Dissuades Younger Audiences -
With services such as Hulu, Netflix, Youtube TV, Peacock, and far too many more emerging, cable has become unappealing to younger generations. Cable has very few benefits compared to cord-cutting options and is (as far as I have seen) far more expensive than any other service available.
Just the set-up of a cable program can completely turn away consumers. Why have to jump through so many hoops for such an expensive service when you can just put your email and credit card number into Netflix and have unlimited access to thousands of shows? It's unappealing to adults, it's unappealing to younger generations (I know for certain I will never try to get myself into that mess), and it's even becoming unappealing to its primary customers, older and elderly consumers.
- (Potential) Streaming Service Monopolies and How The Reality Is Much Worse -
While many feared that in this new environment larger services such as Hulu and Netflix may become monopolies of sorts, this is not the case. And, unfortunately, though these services are still relatively new, streaming services might soon be just as problematic and expensive as cable. Allow me to explain:
Along with the new services being made available in recent years, there has been an explosion in new T.V. shows and movies. Many of these services have created their own original content, such is the case with Netflix original.
While this seems a like good idea at first, it actually has presented many problems. Now, as more original content is released, instead of being released onto an already existing platform, it moves to a new platform. Such is the case with services such as Peacock, Apple TV+, Paramount+, and many more. All of these services are very new, trying to take advantage of this market while it is still new and adjusting. This is one reason why we've seen such an explosion in new streaming platforms over the last five or so years.
Not only are more services being released, but the prices of existing platforms are increasing. Some of these platforms are now upwards of fifty dollars per monthly subscription. This is concerning, as it suggests that these prices will rise even more in the future. It's scary to think that these services might soon be just as expensive as cable.
Though this might be a more prominent issue in the future, this is beginning to happen at present (although it is likely less problematic and not to the same degree as it could progress to). At times, it feels like no matter how many platforms you subscribe to, you'll always be missing some content that you want to view. And, along with missing content, you'll also likely have to pay a higher bill.
- Conclusion -
The above-mentioned issues present similar problems to the ones that turned so many away from cable in the first place. As television, and streaming services themselves, continue to advance, we can only hope that the weaker of which will be weeded out and the medium will adjust accordingly. I'd like to add that this issue could be attributed to the services and the industry as a whole being relatively new, and might not always be a problem. However, there still is a chance that could present itself as just that. As with many things, it's still too early to tell.
We can only hope that these issues will be sorted out as they become more prominent, otherwise, streaming services might just become as troublesome as cable.
Though I do believe that streaming services are a far superior option compared to cable, I do urge you to be careful with which platforms you choose to subscribe to. As this is a new market, many of the services are just there to make a quick buck off of you. Always know what you're getting into beforehand and be careful!

#11 - Hitoshi Shinsou
Top Ten Favorite (Anime) Characters
Tumblr media
#1 - Hitoshi Shinsou (My Hero Academia)
Quote:
"We don't get to choose the things we naturally admire."
Where do I start? I could talk about Hitoshi for weeks, months, years. But you guys have better things to be doing, so I'll spare you.
His first appearance at the Sports Festival had me completely fascinated. I love his character design, motives, aspirations, backstory, everything. Especially his quirk. I love the conflict around his quirk, and I love how well it shows another side of U.A. Academy, as well as My Hero Academia's society as a whole.
His character sparked questions that I never would have thought of before he was introduced. Mainly, how people with quirks similar to Hitoshi's (quirks with no real physical applications on inanimate objects but are still extremely useful to hero work) would even pass U.A.'s physical entrance exam, especially with rules in place that you are not allowed to interfere with other students during the exams.
His quirk is also so overpowered, especially against opponents who have no idea about his quirk and with the addition of his voice-changer. He's intelligent enough to know how to trick others that already know about his quirk (as shown in the joint-training arc) into answering him.
I think that very few people picked up on how intelligent Hitoshi really is. Not only does he acknowledge and know both his strengths and weaknesses as well as how he needs to train his quirk in the future, but for him to even get into U.A. in the first place with such as low physical exam score (as I assume he had), he must have had a very high score in the written exam. I think that's a very nice 'hidden' detail of his character.
Upon seeing him in the joint-training arc, I was over the moon. More Hitoshi! More character development! I just about keeled over dead upon learning of his acceptance into the hero program. He fought to show that general class students have potential, too, and he proved it! His heroic nature is very clear at two certain points during the arc; first when he potentially sacrifices his victory (and what, from his standpoint, is his only chance into the hero department) to save Izuku, despite no prompting from the teachers, and it not benefiting him in any way (in spite of what he says later about it 'only being to benefit himself', which it did not).
The second point was after the final battles had taken place and Hitoshi's performance was being evaluated. Him, being the humble bean he is, spoke about his shortcomings (despite him holding his own against and even defeating students who have had actual experience fighting real villains and many, many months of intense training while he had zero experience). He talked about how he could improve while Aizawa practically strangled him to death (I still laugh at that to this day). And the look of confusion, awe, and wonder as he was informed of his acceptance into the hero class makes many months of waiting absolutely worth it. He definitely deserves to be in Class 1-A (and more screen time wouldn't hurt, either).
These are just a few of the many components of Hitoshi's character that I love, but I'm going to end it here before it becomes a full-fledged character analysis.

#2 - Rimuru Tempest (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)
Quote:
"Hear me, Direwolves! Your boss is dead! I'll give you the choice: submit or die!"
Rimuru is intelligent, strong-willed, and can turn into a boneless, gelatinous blob. What's not to love?
I love the way he interacts with other characters. Most isekai protagonists bother me, but Rimuru is one of few exceptions. He inspires others without even meaning it and though his character is dangerously close to being a very common character trope, I can't help but love him.
Is he a bit cliche? Yes. But does he make me smile like an idiot every time I see him on screen? Yes. Yes, absolutely.

#9 - Saiki Kusuo
Top Ten Favorite (Anime) Characters

#3 - Saiki Kusuo (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)
Quote:
"A Matryoshka doll? How did that get there? What? They keep coming out of my hand? Isn't this a rip-off of Momo from My Hero?"
If you've made it this far and read about the past two characters especially, you may start to notice a trend. Yeah, let's just ignore it.
My favorite aspect of Saiki's character is not, in fact, his satire or ironic comedy or even fourth wall breaks, but for his compassion. He cares deeply for his friends, though he would rather die than admit it. The way he brushes off how he would move mountains (sometimes very literally) or wrestle a hurricane (sounds awfully familiar) for his friends is one of my favorite parts of his character.
A character with a sweet tooth is always a bonus, too.

UnwarRANTed: No One Asked, [BLANK] Delivered - The Seven Deadly Sins (Anime)
[BLANK] - Though The Seven Deadly Sins is popular, I feel that the effort and dedication put into the animation itself really goes unnoticed sometimes.
WARNING: Spoilers for The Seven Deadly Sins (Season 3)
A couple of days ago, I started to re-watch The Seven Deadly Sins on Netflix; though, I'm not entirely sure if I can call it 're-watching', as there was only one season available when I first watched it.
The animation has completely blown me away! I've always admired TSDS manga for its incredibly in-depth and complicated storyline, as well as its wonderful artwork, but it seems that the anime is just as well-made! TSDS has such a unique art style, and I feared that might be lost in the anime, as is what happens with many animated adaptations (such is the case with the much-underrated series, Deadman Wonderland). I'm glad to say that this is not the case with the anime, though!
As soon as I finished season 3, episode 4, I pulled up this draft right away. Wow, what a way to finish an episode! The conversation between Hawks and Merlin before revealing Galand's astonishing power level, leading into that incredibly eerie close-up as his eye begins to glow beneath his armor-- I got chills just watching!
Even the smallest of scenes have incredible amounts of detail put into them. I'm often very surprised to see how much effort is put into minuscule movements of the characters. The way the 'camera' moves as well really is the cherry on top.

#8 - Gowther

#4 - Gowther (The Seven Deadly Sins)
Quote:
"Memories are merely information. Creating or erasing them is not difficult. What I want to understand is the 'emotion' that reaches beyond them."
Gowther reminds me a lot of Violet Evergarden, as they both have many issues with understanding emotions (don't we all?). However, I very much like how Gowther is willing to take much more drastic, and sometimes deadly (get it?), means to fulfill his desire.
Gowther lusts to understand emotion, and I think that is an absolutely wonderful portrayal of the sin itself. I strongly disliked Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist because of how literally the definition of 'lust' was taken. Although Gowther's original crime was similar to the meaning of Lust as used in Fullmetal Alchemist, his character throughout the series embodies several different meanings of 'lust'. I can't help but love a character as well-made as Gowther.
Though his actions towards others in his lust for emotional knowledge are often harmful, he is unable to find fault in his behavior due to his inability to empathize with others. He has an almost child-like innocence about him that many characters with similar issues seem to have and it is, admittedly, a bit endearing to see embodied in a character.
He's another one of those conflicted, complicated characters that I cannot seem to escape. Why does there have to be so many well-written characters out there? Can't everything just be Sharknado?

#7 - Saitama
Top Ten Favorite (Anime) Characters
Tumblr media
#5 - Saitama (One-Punch Man)
Quote:
"Ok."
I'm sure it's obvious why Saitama is on this list. A nearly-emotionless, far-too-overpowered protagonist with a cyborg sidekick, how can you not love him?
The second anime I ever watched was One-Punch Man, and I fell in love not only with the plot but with the characters as well. The heroes, the villains, the social commentary, the satire, everything about the series completely captivates me but Saitama especially.
I don't really know how to describe it. I honestly just like Saitama doesn't care at all unless it's concerning bargain days at the supermarket.
As I write this, I'm starting to realize I might naturally be drawn to so-called 'deadpan' characters (you'll find a couple more as I finish this mini-series). So, uh, oops.

#6 - Harlequin 'King'
Top Ten Favorite (Anime) Characters

#6 - Harlequin 'King' (The Seven Deadly Sins)
Quote:
"I'm the Fairy King. So, I want to protect the forest, my people, Diane, everything!"
Though I truly love the entire cast of The Seven Deadly Sins (except for Elizabeth, but that's a conversation for another time) King is one of my favorites, rivaled only by another to-be-mentioned sin.
I'm a sucker for a good backstory and The Seven Deadly Sins is chock-full of them. King's was especially interesting to me. I love how deeply rooted in his character it is and how it affects his interactions with other sins.
One of my favorite aspects of the character is his physical appearance; the way he's portrayed visually as a child with a strong-willed, albeit immature, nature as opposed to his more mature self that appears later, who is not only more developed physically, but mentally as well. In that state, he's far more grounded but his desire to protect his loved ones does not cease.
Diane is an important part of King's character and helps to fully realize his need to shelter his friends and family. His feelings towards Diane are just as adorable as they are noble. They also make for the perfect component to complete his arc.
Harlequin's character is deeply complicated and that's perhaps my favorite aspect of him. Who doesn't love a good ol' rounded character?

#7 - Karama Akabane (Assassination Classroom)
Quote:
"If you've got time to point fingers, then how about using your head to figure out what you want to do about it?"
This was a hard choice between Nagisa and Karma. While Nagisa is cautious and thinks things through, Karma is intelligent and sarcastic. I think it was definitely Karma's sarcasm that won me over.
I like Karma's compromise between confidence and not taking himself too seriously (at times). It's a really interesting characteristic that I rarely see.
It was really refreshing to have Karma's comedic character to counteract the dark plot and events of the story. I honestly don't think I could have made it through the show without Karma.
The way Karma's character arc fully wrapped up at the end showing how he truly did care for Koro-Sensei was extremely satisfying for me. His character as a whole (from both an analytical and purely emotional standpoint) is one of my favorites that I've come across in all forms of media.
