Two idiots decided that they weren't going anywhere in life and thought they should go to college to get ahead. The first goes in to see the counselor, who tells him to take Math, History, and Logic.
"What's Logic?" the first idiot asks.
The professor answers by saying, "Let me give you an example."
"Do you own a weedeater?"
"I sure do."
"Then I can assume, using logic, that you have a yard," replied the professor.
"That's real good!"
The professor continues, "Logic will also tell me that since you have a yard, you also own a house."
Impressed, "Amazin!"
"And since you own a house, logic dictates that you have a wife."
"That's Betty Mae! This is incredible!" The idoit is obviously catching on.
"Finally, since you have a wife, logically I can assume that you are heterosexual," said the professor.
"You're absolutely right! Why that's the most fascinatin' thing I ever heard! I can't wait to take that logic class!!"
The idiot, proud of the new world opening up to him, walks back into the hallway, where his friend is still waiting.
"So what classes are ya takin'?" asks the friend.
"Math, History, and Logic!" he replies.
"What in tarnation is logic???" asked his friend.
"Let me give you an example. Do ya own a weedeater?" he asked.
"No," his friend replied.
"Gay."

i remember adults telling me, as a kid, to listen to doctors and get my flu vaccine and any shots i could because they remembered Before.
then they started fighting Covid precautions.
i remember adults telling me, as a kid, that the ozone was disappearing and the earth was dying and we needed to recycle and save the planet.
now my parents think climate change is a myth.
i remember adults telling me, as a kid, that racism was a plague, that we had to love and accept everyone, that we should never judge before walking a mile in their shoes.
then they told me that protesting for my Black siblings was wrong.
i remember adults telling me, as a kid, that we needed to give to the poor. working at soup kitchens. making quilts. collecting food and money and supplies. building houses. because it was the christian and just plain right thing to do.
now they look at me, on food stamps with their grandchildren, and lament the "welfare state".
i remember adults telling me, as a kid, that it was easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and that any rich man, especially an immoral one, should never run our country.
you can guess who they voted for.
i remember adults telling me, as a kid, so very much.
when did they forget?

I saw this meme on Reddit, and it’s actually kind of interesting. On the surface, this is just another lamentation of the male loneliness epidemic and “men’s rights.” But then you think about the meme a little, and maybe it’s a little too in-depth of an analysis. Notice how it’s a man saying this to another man? If the male loneliness epidemic was as bad as lonely men try to claim, then why don’t they just…be with each other? Had someone conditioned them that they can’t for whatever reason?
Ask men who told them they can’t share emotions or whatever and they’ll always tell you either “society, man” which is barely an answer or “that’s just how it is for men,” as if it’s an innate part of masculinity. And if we do, for whatever reason, accept “society, man” as an answer, then doesn’t it logically follow that men did this to themselves? Women, for most of history, did not call the shots for men. It’s more the other way around. So if they are the cause of their own problem, and hold the potential of their solution, then what’s the wait for?
It’s the same explanation for every similar situation of learned helplessness. It has to be Someone Else! And, simplifying things for the sake of analysis (and the fact that “third genders” outside the binary have not been an acknowledged thing for most of modern Western society), who else is left other than men? It’s just men wanting their mothers again, all the way down. It’s amazing.
Now I won’t pretend there’s not good commentary in the comments. The stigmatization of mental health and lack of resources for it is a legitimate problem in society. Hell, one or two even agree with what I’ve just laid out here. So why are so many of these men bitching on social media instead of, I don’t know, actually advocating for destigmatization? Why don’t they protest for more funding in mental health resources, or easier access, or anything? Why do these men need a matronly savior to do it all for them? Why are they just waiting around for Someone Else? Do they not know how to help themselves and support each other? Are they stupid? (Don’t answer that last question.)
To be fair, it’s a pretty American problem to just wait for the Good Times to come without doing any work for it. However, that doesn’t mean that all Americans historically have just sat on their ass waiting for Better Days. The Civil Rights, Birth Control, and Suffragist Movements are all notable examples of minorities coming up and actually advocated for themselves and for a better life. These men, however, are just drowning in their own bathtubs and hoping someone rescues them instead of…turning off the faucet.
One proposed answer to why they allow themselves to drown, at least according to the Reddit thread, is paranoia. If someone is actually caring, they argue, then it is an open avenue for manipulation, because that person will constantly go to you for help, even though that one conversation was definitely more than enough to cure their ills. Now, some people do steal energy like this and don’t try to help anyone, especially the caring person, back. But to assume this is true for all people suffering from mental health is…well bad. I don’t think I need to explain why believing all mentally ill people are secretly manipulative and evil “energy thieves” is bad. I do think I need to explain, and comment on, the implications this belief has. If all, or even just most, mentally ill people can’t be trusted with care because of their greedy and selfish nature, then…doesn’t that imply that whoever holds such a belief also secretly believes that these men deserve having their mental health ignored? That the male loneliness epidemic is deserved? Is this why you need a matron? Because you secretly believe that everyone around you is shitty and untrustworthy? Don’t you see how you’re only harming yourself with your brand of cynicism?
It’s amazing how, through only a meme, you can reveal how self-pitying, lazy, cynical, and helplessness an entire group of people are. Toxic masculinity and victim complexes truly rot your brain. But of course, these men don’t believe in that, because that’s feminist voodoo language, unless of course it’s tied to a conspiracy theory about how The Man profits from the division of men, identity of The Man be damned.

my take on the whole “is therapy speak making us selfish” thing is no, it’s not. it’s just giving people who were already selfish some extremely annoying new vocabulary
