I wouldn't be surprised to see and learn if the community is about to rewrite the events of TAG Pt.2 via modding. All of this will be decided in the next days.
On Thursday, Hugo Martin will be streaming a playthrough of the last two levels of DOOM Eternal’s base single player mode: Urdak and Final Sin.
Then, I can assume, we’ll hear what the community may want to ask Hugo in terms of the decisions made in The Ancient Gods Part 2, and for good or bad, it’ll decide the mid and long-term future of DOOM Eternal’s popularity.
So if you’re going to be in the chat for that final stream, do me a favor, address your concerns respectfully, but please let them know that this game deserves much better.
MY THOUGHTS ON DOOM ETERNAL: THE ANCIENT GODS PART 2
(Needless to say, full spoilers ahead, be sure to block the tag if you don’t want to read anything before playing the game)
Starting off by saying: I’ll be FOREVER grateful to id software for being able to develop and release DOOM Eternal during the very beginning of the pandemic. Despite what could happen in the future regarding the franchise, they’ll always have my gratitude for that.
I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that statement, for it has served me and many, many other players around the world as a distraction and something to look forward to during these strange times that we can all hope to put in the past very soon.
WITH THAT BEING SAID.
I’d be lying if I were NOT to say that I’m not happy with the ending of Part 2 of The Ancient Gods.
Because I am definitely not okay with it, and with many other things about the second DLC.

THE BEST:
* The Sentinel Hammer/The Betrayer's Hammer/Argent Hammer/however you wish to call it. In terms of superweapons, a much better weapon with more thought put into it compared to the Crucible, which will forever remain as a great addition to the armory, but it's still just a glorified super chainsaw/Delete button IMO
* More single levels to play; the atmosphere in each of them is fantastic. While I see why there's complaints about Immora as a whole and how it fits and 'rewrites' the store of the game, I still can't help but find it very cool.
* Just like with the music of the first expansion, the music in The Ancient Gods Part 2 is fantastic, what a GREAT job from Andrew Hulshult and David Levy.
The Mid:
* The Escalation Encounters are nice, but having endured the original buffed version of The Holt's Slayer Gate in TAG Pt. 1 makes them some very quick challenges to endure. They're still a nice way to try your skills out.
* The new enemies in general are very cool additions to the roster, but I don't see them being used in the future or being as well remembered from the ones from Part 1. I like how they made you actually employ the unused modes from some weapons on the new enemies (like the Full Auto mode). The Stone Imp can stay, the other ones are forgettable, the green Prowler can go back to Hell and stay there.
The Worst:
* Overall, The Dark Lord/Davoth/S8n was such a huge letdown, and the fact that The Ancient Gods Part 2 more or less removes the agency of virtually all characters and rewrites the story of the game during the course of the third level leaves up a bad taste in your mouth after the huge cliffhanger of TAG Pt.1. The ending, while it didn’t put Doomguy in a “confirmed death” status, somehow managed to be worse than my worst-case scenario that was in my mind.
* Having experienced such creative bossfights in DOOM Eternal previously, the final boss fight against The Dark Lord is, much like the last portion of the second DLC, a stepdown from the previous boss encounters.
While it may have borrowed a little from other non-FPS franchises, perhaps DOOM Eternal took too many pages from action-adventure games where flashing/timed weak points are abundant. From the looks of things, a rework/re-imagining of the fight may be in the near future.
* The story, for as much criticism as it got from the story-allergic side of the DOOM community, never really got in the way of the enjoyment of DOOM Eternal, and in general, it was completely fine. However, the final boss fight and the final twist sent everything you've learned in the base game and the first DLC down the gutter for a plot point that should've been included, hinted or mentioned during the beginning of the base game and not in the DLC.
And here I thought that Machinegames removing the player's agency in The New Colossus was bad...

Hello, everyone!
It’s me again! And well, the reason why I’m here is to uhh...well. Put my thoughts out there about DOOM Eternal’s second (and apparently last) single-player mode DLC, “The Ancient Gods Part 2″.
Truth be told, I wasn’t expecting to get in my blog just to write my thoughts about it, but the reason why I’m here is that I’m starting to feel that the coming days are going to be decisive for the future of DOOM Eternal in terms of activity. More to that in a few moments.
And no I am not officially returning here yet, this is a one-time occasion where I may attempt to employ what little I have in terms of audience and reach in order to assist DOOM Eternal in having a much longer longevity.
In the meantime, hello again and be ready to read some midnight thoughts I’ve been having ever since I stopped playing TAG Pt.2.

Flickr account regained.
I’ll be uploading the full-size pictures I took of the action figures for preservation/public showing. And that’s probably going to be it for a while.

-Nightly reblog-
So hey, about this sword right here. Let me share with you a storytime/odyssey I had to endure with this purchase months ago while also giving you a fair warning about making purchases on Etsy.
Please be aware that this will be a LONG post, but don't worry, even if I go beyond 3000 characters (spoilers: I did not!) I won't delve into unrequested opinions of events that have nothing to do with the post itself...
More after the jump!
First things first, I can't imagine how you're all handling this ongoing situation, but I still hope you're all doing well. A small distraction for me has been finally getting around to assemble a PC strong enough to handle DOOM Eternal and many other games of my liking. And on a related note, and because of the hype of course, I ended up buying the DOOM Eternal action figures released by McFarlane Toys. All two of them at least, the DOOM Slayer and the Marauder.
They're cool figures and all, but one of the many things they lack are accessories. Don't get me wrong, the Super Shotgun + Meat Hook and the Marauder's Axe are pretty cool accessories, but that's not all they have in the game itself.
So this lead me into looking for cool accessories to enhance the figures. One of the things I'm having a hard time with is to find the ones that can scale well with them. On one hand you have the extensive Marvel Legends line of action figures that sometimes come with a lot of accessories, but almost none of them have caught my eye. Only one of them which I ended up getting was a Chaingun from the Deathlok action figure from Marvel Legends for Doomguy.
But I would be lying if I were to say that I didn't wanted to have the DOOM Slayer Crucible.
So here I was, looking at my options, and one of them were Etsy. I have bought a couple of things on their site before, and by that time I had zero negative experiences with my purchases at all.
Tumblr media
And then I saw it. The 3D-printed (and painted!) Crucible ready to fit the McFarlane action figure, made by a store located in the US. And I said "Yeah, sure, why not. Let's get this one!".
And my confirmation of purchase arrived, and so it began my goddamn odyssey.
You see, when you buy stuff on the internet and depending on where you buy it, it is usual for you to receive a tracking number, right?
Well, here's the deal, with the past two purchases the sellers were kind enough to provide me with the tracking number and then it would also show up on Etsy. With this purchase, however, the seller had no option* but to use Etsy's current way to handle international shipping thru what is called "Global Postal Shipping", in association with a company called Asendia.
(*) - Or at least is what I can only assume.
At the beginning I wasn't provided with a tracking number, and the only number I had was the Order number from Etsy, which didn't really help that much. If at all. I assumed that this was going to be fixed soon by Etsy. But oh dear, it did not.
So here I was, checking every single day for any updates on Etsy's tracking section on their app, with the last substantial update I could see being that it departed Asendia's facility in L.A. on August 13th, seven days after I placed the order and it was shipped.
33 whole days passed without an update, and by that point I had set up a reminder on my phone calendar to reach the seller if a few more days passed without any news, assuming that it got stuck and/or lost somewhere else during transit (given the circumstances about the worldwide pandemic and how it affected the US Postal Service...and a couple of other non pandemic-related events that my dear American readers must've been aware of during that time that could also affect USPS' services. I guess I don't have to explain that one).
My hopes were that the package could get outside the US before the end of October, because of...you know, yeah. And then the miracle happened, and Etsy finally gave a fucking update on Sept/15 that it passed customs and it was already on the other side. Praise the Lord.
Once done with that excruciating hurdle, there was another obstacle to get through: Our Very Own National Postal Service.
On one hand, there's the infamy of delays and bureaucracy that get in the way of international packages that arrive in our country over the past decade. On the other hand, however, there were recent testimonies of national packages arriving in an unforeseen yet remarkably short amount of time, hinting that even in the midst of a once-in-a-century crisis, the Mexican Postal Service was actually working much faster than usual.
With that in mind, and with the experience of the previous purchases that were handled by the Postal Service of my country, I calculated that it could take from 4-8 weeks for the package to arrive after it was sent...Thankfully for me, my calculations were wrong, and the package actually arrived 14 days later! I even had an immediate reaction on my Twitter because I legitimately wasn't expecting it to arrive that fast after it got thru customs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here it was, perfectly wrapped with no substantial issues whatsoever. I made a good choice and...I guess I would say the wait was worth the wait? But then again, my God, having an actual fucking tracking number makes waiting so much easier!
And here comes the best part: the package actually had a goddamn tracking number on it, but when you looked up the info., for some reason it showed that it was processed and shipped from Switzerland (???). So, even if I had that info in my possession, it wouldn't have made any fucking difference and would've made things a lot more confusing.
Now please don't get me wrong, it is not the seller's fault that I had to experience all of this to the point of assuming that the package got lost and I would never see my purchase, I'm more upset at Etsy for not having their shit together with their current way to handle international transactions.
And please note I'm not the only one experiencing these kind of issues with Etsy's Global Postal Shipping program, because due to the pandemic and how things are being handled without any proper tracking numbers, many sellers are being affected and they're even afraid of shipping internationally or overseas with the risk of cancellation/refund requests and 1-star ratings due to shipping issues that have nothing to do with the sellers.
So there you have it, please be aware that if you plan on purchasing anything from Etsy right now you may be on the way to experience this as well. It's remarkable that they're still going thru the delivery process during a worldwide pandemic, but a lot of sites are also able to provide proper tracking number for their customers with the assurance that they're going somewhere.
Anyway, I wanted to put this whole wall of text aside so I could focus on the custom Crucible figure on a whole different post, so if you reached this part, thank you for reading this, and feel free to also check the pictures I took of the DOOM Slayer action figure with the Crucible!

Custom DOOM Slayer Crucible (for McFarlane DOOM Slayer action figure)
A sacred relic of the Sentinel People, the Crucible remains one of the most mysterious artifacts known to man. Texts from Argent D'Nur reference the weapon in a revered, righteous manner; while Night Sentinels were known to employ similar energy-based blades in their armaments, the Crucible remains the only one powerful enough to reportedly slay titan-class demons.
Only the Slayer holds knowledge of this venerated sword, for only he has been known to wield it. The blade burns with an ethereal heat, immediately cauterizing flesh as it slices through.
One of the most common criticisms the DOOM Slayer action figure from McFarlane Toys received was the lack of weapons for it, since it only came with the Super Shotgun.
Thankfully there were DOOM fans out there ready to fill this space by means of 3D-printing. And one of the items they immediately made was the Slayer Crucible, of course!
I did not made this, I actually bought this on Etsy (and boy, do I have a story to tell you about it. I’ll put it below in a separate reblog because it is quite large). The original link is this one, but as of this writing, unfortunately it is out of stock. However, here’s the link to the Etsy store where you can still purchase and download the scaled 3D model ready for print!
I bought and received this three months ago, but due to time constraints and IRL stuff I couldn’t share this with you until today.
For how small it is, the detail is absolutely fantastic, and it fits the Slayer hand without any issues whatsoever. It came a little bit warped (but juuust a little), but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed. I hope the pictures can make it justice because it is so amazing.
I heavily recommend getting around obtaining a Slayer Crucible for your DOOM Slayer action figure if you have the chance!

So what made ya come back to tumblr?
Okay, I’ll be completely honest here and do what I usually shouldn’t, and it’s sharing my original plans:
In 2019 I was on my way to backup my stuff from this site, and then figure out how to expand and “decentralize”. How and where, that’s something I don’t think I’ll get to explain soon. But you all will know in due time!
Most of it, if not all of it, was planned to occur and accelerate as soon as I could get around building a good PC for myself. Good enough to run DOOM 2016 and the (then) upcoming DOOM Eternal, and strong enough to carry my projects.
Then I landed my current job by mere surprise, and then it started consuming my time and energies through the entire year. Then I ran out of posts on my Queue to keep the blog running. Then I started running out of time and energy even more during the last portion of 2019. And then I started planning and focusing my hard earned resources on getting my PC, and then the pandemic hit.
A few unexpected purchases later, now I own a pretty dang good PC that plays both DOOM games without breaking a single drop of sweat, but if you were to ask me right now what else will follow, I wouldn’t be able to tell you.
As of right now I’m not in condition to “return full-time” here (or anywhere else). A couple of things need to happen first and I sincerely don’t expect them to happen anytime soon.
Like I said a few days ago, I just wanted to come back here very quickly, post a couple of galleries, share that horror story involving Etsy, and then return to Twitter. Who knows, I could be on an off Tumblr in the next months, but then again, only time will tell.

McFarlane DOOM Marauder Figure
And why yes, the new, 'infamous' yet high-profile enemy of Doomguy also got an action figure from McFarlane Toys. Announced and released a bunch of months after the DOOM Slayer figure, the Marauder stands 7 inches tall and got favorable receptions from the fans and the action figure community, specially after the release of the DOOM Slayer action figure.
The Marauder figure comes with the Argent Battle Axe (already “activated”), and the standard McFarlane circular base that helps him stand in certain poses, if required.
The main advantages the Marauder has over the Slayer are in the articuations department, which can be easily demonstrated by the Marauder being able to actually hold the weapons with both hands.
(Oof, I know).
Having both of these figures, I can definitely admit and say that the Marauder ended up being the best figure of the two, but it’s so much better when you own both of them to make some cool pictures.
It's been 6 months since the Marauder figure was released to the public, and one Bronze recolor later, DOOM fans are wondering if McFarlane Toys is going to release more DOOM Eternal figures down the line.
