Crotalus Horridus a.k.a. Timber Rattlesnake, Canebrake
Dangerously venomous, reaching 3-5 feet in length, and Missouri’s largest venomous snake. They are truly a sight to behold in the wild. Even more so when you’re deep in the Ozarks, alone. I startled this girl as I was walking through some brush in the St Francois Mountains just south of where we live. Though she mostly startled me!

Had a fun shoot* with a timber rattler and two babies today. Gave me quite the startle and had to do a double take on my lower leg. All is good FYI. I haven’t been to Annapolis in probably 20 years. It was nice to get back and enjoy the harbor life. The smell of Old Bay filled the streets as shoulders-held-high Navy seamen/women walked at ease, the flaunting of wealth oozed from Ego Alley’s 3-story yachts, and the state capitol building towered above town. I spent a lot of time at Hats in the Belfry and made it out of there without submitting to my love of a good hat.
