Eco-friendly and Sustainable Menswear
We have learned to integrate environmentally aware practices into our daily lives, like recycling plastics and eating more organic. It's our way of contributing to the world around us. And it feels good to do better. But how can we apply the same lifestyle ideals of sustainability to what we wear and how we shop?
Understanding the “slow fashion” process of eco-friendly clothing and how to incorporate sustainable fashion into your wardrobe may be a great place to start.

History is made in the 15th Congressional District of NYC
Tumblr media
That is about Ritchie Torres. A dedicated out gay Democratic nominee has finally reached his goal and secured win over other competitors. The news came earlier this week when the majority of votes have been counted, giving Torres 38% of votes with 20 points ahead of the second candidate, Samelys Lopez.  “On Primary Day, we were ahead by 4,516 votes. As of yesterday evening, our lead had grown to 7803 (far larger than the # of uncounted ballots). Even if our nearest rival were to win every single one, we would remain ahead by a wide margin,” Torres tweeted.
This outcome is truly outstanding. In the midst of a pandemic, at its epicenter, NYC, the LGBTQ candidate has secured the nomination. This win has already become history. Now what? The community of the South Bronx hopes for better, for a critical life improvement as Ritchie has promised. Hard work is ahead, but the fighter is ready. Luckily, he is not alone. “Looking forward to causing ‘good trouble’ with you, my brother,” responded Torres to the congratulations received from another openly gay nomination winner, Mondaire Jones (17th Congressional District). This referral is quite remarkable as it invokes the words John Lewis recently passed the civil rights icon.
Lewis has passed, but his ideas, dreams, and achievements are still with us. Right now, it is the time to move forward to the new heights of diversity, inclusion, and equal representation. That is the task for the younger generation. Torres, Jones, and many more queer winners across the state of New York now have a real chance to change the life of the LGBTQ community for the better, secure tolerance and equal opportunities.

Struggle for survival: Stonewall Inn is looking for community support
They have been fighters from the very beginning. Overcoming lack of acceptance, social prejudice, and mistreatment, LGBTQ people have gradually won some of the rights granted for all other citizens. In between the struggles, there exists a place for revitalization, meeting soulmates, and celebrating key achievements. For LGBTQ people, Stonewall Inn used to be such a place. It also appeared to be a birthplace of the modern LGBTQ movement. Back in 1969, clashes were harsh, but the opponents were visible. In 2020 new reality, an invisible enemy, has emerged: COVID-19.
Tumblr media
It affected businesses across the country, resulting in thousands of dining places being forever closed. Luckily, Stonewall Inn managed to survive. At least, up to now. How could it become possible? Just because of the customers who chose to support their favorite place via crowdfunding. For the first round back to April, $29K were collected to support staff, followed by the general call in June to give for the sake of Stonewall Inn staying afloat. This time $100K target has been quickly reached, and cash flow continues to come. This generous move from the LGBTQ community and allies cannot be overestimated. However, the contributions will support the landmark for some time, much more is required to put it on the track. “The Stonewall Inn faces an uncertain future, and we are in need of community support,” reads the statement from the GoFundMe managing crowdfunding effort.

Gay CEO For LGBTQ Fund: Perfect Match
The pandemic has dramatically changed lifestyles around the globe, disrupted normal business processes, and took an immense number of lives. LGBTQ community turned out to be among the most vulnerable categories that desperately needed help and support. Community life was interrupted, too. For the first time in history, Pride went online. Celebrating who we are without being able to shake hands, feeling a supporting shoulder of a soulmate, has undoubtedly affected LGBTQ people at large. However, as we are entering the track leading (hopefully!) to normalcy in the foreseeable future, there are ways for the community to thrive right now.
As a part of the effort to celebrate diversity and inclusion, LOUD Capital (an early-stage venture fund) has announced launching a new fund, Pride Fund 1.
Tumblr media
“From the inception of the fund, we realized we needed a dynamic representative of the community who not only understood the venture and startup spaces but who also had a desire to shape a legacy,” as Navin Goyal, CEO at LOUD, put it.
LOUD was lucky to find Densil R. Porteous to offer him to be the fund’s CEO. Densil, identified as gay, has not only vast administrative experience, but also in-depth knowledge of the LGBTQ community, its needs, concerns, and demands.
The fund aims to support LGBTQ entrepreneurs. The need is especially pressing in the US, where LGBTQ CEOs have less than 1% of the market share (Backstage Capital report).
"I am excited to contribute my talents and passion to the community in this way. We have an opportunity to make a significant impact and leave an enhanced legacy,” commented Densil on his new appointment.
This incredible and promising move is in line with KeYou philosophy. We share a devotion of LGBTQ people being equally present in a business.
In unprecedented times of racial-based injustice and equality, we have recently launched a flash mob #gaylivesmatter in an attempt to attract attention to the problems LGBTQ community faces today, including violence and injustice. We support launching Pride Fund 1 by LOUD Capital and call for investors, VCs, funds, and all our great people to contribute, to spread the word, and to help LGBTQ movement, by supporting projects like ours. Violence: a universal tool?
Tumblr media
The death of George Floyd has angered American people. In the midst of coronavirus pandemic and curfews here and there, voices of Americans should be heard. Those opposing police physical violence are not protected from it themselves. This sad reality has been recently confirmed in New York, where LGBTQ activists took part in peaceful protests. This Tuesday, numerous protestors have been harshly beaten in Stonewall Inn. "I never witnessed anything like this in my life," stated protestor Evan Catlett.
Jason Rosenberg and Marti Gould Cummings were amongst them. "We were peacefully protesting ... and we started to see some escalation, and we sorta kept moving, and a lot of us linked arms in solidarity and civil disobedience, which is not resisting arrest," Jason recalled. The arrests began at 8:15 p.m. EDT soon after curfew started Rosenberg and Cummings spent hours in cops wardship, where their condition continued to worsen No clinical aid was offered despite Jason had his hand badly injured. That is not saying about masks. Who cares about LGBTQ contracting coronavirus in custody?
The primary question is for how long Americans will continue facing harsh cops violence. This concern requires a prompt response as well as an appropriate resolution. Not a single participant in a peaceful protest is worthy of to be harmed. He, she, they endure more than enough to freely tell about the challenges the society faces. These individuals are just not able to be silent about what they see and hear happening across the country. Is it the time to HEAR not to HIT?

Benefits equality: mission accomplished
Tumblr media
Numerous opposite-sex couples nationwide take advantage of Social Security benefits, including survivor benefits. While getting those never can make up for the loss of a loved one, it offers the support needed for maintaining a normal life. The benefit has, however, been long denied for same-sex couples, particularly in times when marriage was prohibited for them. While this discrimination has currently ended up being history, some same-sex pairs, as well as widowers, needed to defend their rights in court.
It took years for a court ruling to be made. However, the precedent developed is about to change widespread practice permanently. The turning-point ruling originated from Arizona when Michael Ely was gotten approved for survivor benefits following the death of his life-long partner James A. Taylor. While the pair was with each other for 43 years, they were legally married for just 6 months following Arizona legislation modification in 2014. That is exactly on these grounds Michael was denied obtaining the benefit based upon Social Security Administration appropriation.
Benefits equal rights have been finally brought back by Arizona Magistrate Judge Bruce Macdonald. "Because the duration of marriage requirement is based on an unconstitutional Arizona law, it can not withstand scrutiny at any level. The unconstitutional infringement on Mr. Ely and Mr. Taylor's fundamental right to marriage is now being perpetuated further by the denial of Mr. Ely to obtain survivor's benefits," read his decision. Michael was noticeably happy with the decision. "I know he can rest easier now knowing that I, at last, will start receiving the same benefits as other widowers," he said. While it took an unbelievable 6 years to fix this paramount problem, the decision will pave a path for comparable scenarios considered across the United States, including those in North Carolina (Fred Colosimo & Harvey Lucas ) and Washington ( Marge Brown & Helen Thornton). There is an enormous job upfront for the courts throughout the nation to bring back equal rights for the LGBTQ community.

Most hopeless romantics declare that finding love depends on being in the right place and the right time. With all of the doors gay hookup sites open today, that belief is now an old-fashioned cliché. Gay hookup and dating sites are the new matchmaker, where you are in control of narrowing down potential suitors to become a sexual acquaintance or more.

LGBTQ People Affected By Coronavirus Need To Be Counted
The year 2020 made history when LGBTQ people were first counted during the census. Another count, however, hasn’t been adequately done so far at the national level. That is the deadly one of queer people affected by COVID-19. It turns out to be extraordinarily sad as LGBTQ people were recognized as one of the vulnerable communities along with the elderly and people with severe medical conditions. At the national level, over 100 senators and representatives called for immediate action from the administration. However, we are still (almost) precisely at the same point as we were a couple of months ago.
Thus several states came up with their own initiatives to estimate the effect of the pandemic on queer people. State Senator Brad Hoylman of Manhattan is among them. He has suggested legislation authorizing medical organizations to collect data on sexual orientation and gender identity of COVID-19 patients. This timely initiative could definitely contribute to gathering more reliable statistics along with that obtained from census to better serve the LGBTQ community.
“It is important that we get as much information about the impact of COVID on the LGBTQ population because at the moment we don’t really know. Our community has been neglected in terms of statewide data collection,” Sen. Hoylman said.
However, for the initiative being implemented, numerous questions remain. Let us raise just a few. The pandemic is there for over two months, and some percent of LGBTQ people who contracted the virus have already recovered so that unless they pass the antibody test, there is no way to count them and/or estimate long-term effects made by the virus on their health. On top of that, the questions about sexual orientation and gender identity are currently voluntary, and some people prefer to leave it blank due to safety concerns. With the issue becoming that complicated in terms of statistics, a coordinated nationwide response is a must.

NYC Gay Pride 2020: be ready for virtual celebration
Tumblr media
Pride parades nationwide and around the globe have been canceled. Major US cities, including New York (read here about Pride parade cancellation), San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, and many more, will be dressed in the rainbow. But not this year. It would be, however, unthinkable for the LGBTQ community not to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall Uprising. This epic event opened a new page in LGBTQ community history. Not surprisingly, the LGBTQ community came up with an idea to go viral online and arrange a virtual space for celebration to bring all the community members together.
The event will be broadcasted on June 28, 2020, from 12-2 p.m. EST. Dozens of celebs have already signed up for participation. “NYC Pride is a special place for so many. I couldn’t imagine a year without celebrating with the fabulous LBGTQ people in New York. When I was asked to join this special broadcast event with my friends at WABC, it was a no brainer,” shares Carson Kressley, who will serve as a special guest host. Aside from celebrating diversity, the event will feature health care workers and first responders battling coronavirus at the front line. With LGBTQ people being among the most vulnerable categories affected by COVID-19 (link), it is especially important to stay together and support each other during these unprecedented times.
On top of that, several celebs will also be featured as Grand Marshals, including Levy, Victoria Cruz, transgender civil rights advocate, and The Ali Forney Center, the nation’s largest organization serving homeless queer youth. Special performances are also expected. Monáe, Porter, Deborah Cox, Luisa Sonza, Wilson Cruz, drag performer Miss Richfield 1981, and other surprise guests will entertain the viewers. Put it in your calendar and join us to share festive spirits.
