Split ends
I pull out my hair and it’s not metaphorical. I freeze. (Thank evolution for that one.)
I’ve been sat in this seat for 20 minutes, since I heard your name, pulling hairs.
I can’t get up. Body is ice. Time travel is not impossible but it is unidirectional.
I can go backwards in four syllables.
I can’t get out of this seat. The past commands my brain, captains this ship to the locker. I can’t speak. Lungs are bubbles. I see the present recede.
Now is conceptual. The people who live there fold their skin and hide it away.
Every follicle screams like a newborn remembering.

Spring
At noon the sun stands high atop
the cloudless, vivid blue.
Hang on, where is that freezing shock
as I step outside the door?
Could it be already, mid of February,
that this winter goes to sleep?
Am I spotting hints of yellow, purple,
there among the green?
At last the brighter days begin
and I'm all ready greeting spring.

Simpler Times
I have heard of simpler times
Without the phones and switch on lights
Girls in dress and boys in hats
Big house with garden, fields that stretch
Everyone successful young
At work and married by twenty-one
Happy? Rather practical
Everything traditional
It's easy to romanticise
Your memories in black and white
'Cause simple isn't always that
Sometimes it's just simply less

Peng
I have witnessed and experienced
How love can turn from sweet to sour
Sometimes quickly, sometimes creeping
Always bitter, dug up words thrown around like hand granates
So intense, it's still their love that fuels anger
Dressed up as hate so many times before, it doesn't remember
'Am I love? Am I hate? Am I both?'
A thousand little needles poking all at once
At the fine line between the two
They're the same, the same, identical at core
Pressure building
Feelings blending
Passion shouting
'Peng'

Name Day
I wrote a song for you on your name day
I never sang it to you
Never played it for you
I know you always knew
And I know we were too young
Hearts now beating for a different one
But when it's for the first time in your life
It's hard to let it go again

Birthday
Long ago we met
Just recently again
But when they spoke of you with her
I didn't know she'd met someone
And when I heard that you'd kiss her tonight
For the first time on her birthday
I was happy for her, I really was
But like the sugar in her coffee every morning
The sweet was laced with bitterness
Because secretly I'd hoped to be the one
And I don't even know who you are

Beyond the River Bank
I'm a girl with a dream
and a man with a plan
but what I want to be
might not go hand in hand
with expectations of me
and security blankets
so I walk on the street
and go home empty handed
while I wait for the day
I ford beyond the river bank

Dream Again
I will never dream again, I said
'Cause what's the point when there's no point
When the end's too soon and nothing left to do
Because nothing's as it should
~
Someday I may dream again, I dared to hope
When for endless nights I couldn't
Without you here, without the green
Where's that spark on the horizon?
~
Will I ever dream again?
I wish I may, I wish I might
Take me dancing in the moonlight
Blowing out the candles, knowing
~
I can dream again

Burn
As an artist I am terrified of pursuing anything
Because of what I've learnt as a fan throughout the years
About the antics of an industry so cruel
One step in, forever doomed
Peel away the golden layer
And you'll find what's not to see the light of day
Can we beat the gods together
And burn down hell to sprouting ashes?

lips like honey tinted roses
eyes as sharp as sharded glass
as you glance towards my own
demeanour soft and gentle

the warmest gloom of libraries
romance in between the shelves
shushed, denied of any sound
so my words stay hidden glimpses

Glairy Eggshells
flipping through the valedictory yellow-white, worn and tear-stained
you feel an ache that doesn't really leave your chest
though it becomes fainter with each passing day
a sorrowful echo, sounding dull in every heartbeat
as I look back on the letter painted scenery of this fanciful tale
having fallen in love with a glimpse of a dreamt up romance

Office
dust is swirling silently
rotting paper stacked in drawers
dash of pink in corporate grey
the clock is ticking by the door
words are hushed with coffee breath
feet are rooted to the carpet
I love the quiet solitude
but here it's draining empty screams

What you love to do?

Summer Rain
summer rain
summer rain
drizzling on my cheeks
~
sultry air
smell of tar
a silent moment's peace

sunbeams dancing through the clouds
distant thunder rolling in
wearing anguish like a crown
slowly dropping off my chin

Toy
I am just a toy for you
A doll to dress up and display
To get sold and used and sold again
A dance monkey watched relentlessly
~
I am just a toy for you
Not a person with emotions
A beating heart you're breaking slowly
Grasp so tight I can barely move
~
Boy, I'm just a toy for you
What do I have left to give?
You took it all, you own it all
Will you ever set me free?
