every time someone talks about someone "faking disability to live on welfare" or anything to that effect i think about how my mom worked in law and directly knew of a case of a guy who had terminal brain cancer with an estimated few months to live and got rejected the first time he applied for disability income. like, he was 100% going to die and that wasn't disabled enough to not have to jump through a million hoops and get lawyers involved. non-disabled people "living off of welfare" is such a non issue because i cannot bring myself to care about the like, 3 people who maybe successfully do it compared to the thousands of people rejected who need aid

Can we please not demonise systems that don't view their parts/alters/headmates as multiple individual separate people and instead as, well, parts of themselves? It can be a very important part of the recovery process to accept and take ownership of parts, that they are me and I am them and together we make up a bigger whole. To shame systems that do this can reinforce avoidant behaviours, strengthen Dissociative barriers, and lead to more instability and worsening of symptoms.
If you view your parts as parts you're not ableist, you're not a bigot, you're not a sysmed, you're not dehumanising or hurting them or viewing them as lesser than you. You're doing what works for you on your path to your personal goals and that's blessed and holy and all things right in the world like a basket of kittens that crawl all over you and nuzzle into your neck all fluffy and warm.
I can also personally say how alienating it feels to see this as the dominant narrative when neither I, as a part, or any of the rest of us feel like a whole person. To grow up always feeling less than one, to feel that huge chunks of yourself are missing, to feel a void where me should be, to not experience a split as the gain of someone new but as the loss of a part of myself. To view my parts as individual people is to completely give up on those losses of myself, to put their needs above my own, which as SAS shared recently is a common trauma response in people with CDDs. To ignore my feelings of grief over the loss of myself and put on a brave face so everyone else can have what they want.
And if that makes me sound like a whiney spoilt brat, then that's ignoring the reality of what viewing and experiencing us as parts of a whole entails. Which is that now we share ourselves amongst ourselves. Or at least work towards that. Our over all goal in therapy is to remove the barriers between us so all that we are is available to all of us at all times. That we all belong to each other, are free to live our life together as a cohesive team. To know that all of the amazing things that my parts can do are things that we can do, not things that they can do but I can't. It's not being host centric it's being system centric, to hold us all up at the same time.
Of course, if this isn't how you view or experience your system, if doing so is harmful to your system then that's good to! Do whatever works best for you. Just please for the love of the holy trinity stop judging and shaming those who do things differently from you.
(and to be a little less vague, no, being multiple people is not the "literal definition" of DID, that's why we stopped calling it Multiple Personality Disorder, because the disorder is much more often about the avoidance of self, not the gaining of multiple selves. That's the media misrepresentations of DID talking)

I don't think we're on the same page.
Jaune: *Playing with his nephew*
Ruby: It's so cute to see Jaune playing with his nephew
Blake: Yes, it gives me a very peculiar feeling watching him play with children.
Ruby: Right! It makes my heart warm when I see it.
Blake: Me too, even a tear ran down my leg~馃挄 *She licks her lips*
Ruby: Yeah....
Ruby: Wait, what do you mean by that?

The way people with "scary" mental health disorders are treated by society is scarier than the people who have those mental health disorders could ever be tbh

Want to read a short comic about creativity, hope, and mental health? Look no further!
This comic is titled One Panel at a Time, and is a piece I made back in 2020 about my experience being an artist diagnosed with early-onset schizophrenia. You can read it here, or on Webtoon and Tapas if you'd like!

i know that some neurodivergent folks struggle to read typos and disordered writing, but if you are the type of person who feels compelled to correct grammar and spelling when it's not related to struggling to parse what someone is saying, please do not do it to a schizophrenic or schizospectrum person. we often times mix up similar sounding words, mix up the order of sentences, say things that straight up don't make sense, or spell words in ways that make sense to us, but are not spelled 'correctly' and have no idea we did it.
if you can't parse what we said, please just ask us to say or explain it again. don't interject and say "oh you meant this," or go "it's spelled necessary*" or laugh at them for mixing up words or not knowing how to spell something correctly. it's not funny, it's a product of someone else's disability. just ask for clarification instead. we don't care about whether or not every single sentence we say is grammatically correct. sometimes you have to overlook those mistakes and engage with the person on their level.
