It’s lunch time so you know what that means?! Another post of a little cutie I made last week! Low-key obsessed with groggy clay 🤫 how unfortunate 🤲🏼

My dad and brother-in-law each requested a cigar ashtray, so here is the final product. One more to go!

The last few days have been spent practicing new techniques that I learned over the weekend. These have proven to be 100% effective in allowing me to produce even pieces with thinner walls! Maybe we will level up to mugs soon 🤫 who knows!

It’s almost Easter and this is the last of my practice clay. My next step is kiln research! All of the positive feedback has made me excited to make pieces that are built to last. Pieces that I can gift or keep in my own home. Finding out that my house already has the electrical means to host a kiln, I can’t help but think this is all meant to be🐰

Since teaching myself as I go, some have asked if I’ve been watching videos as a means of learning. I watched one video on how to center the clay and then just bought this book! It’s honestly been the perfect little guide on different things you can do with clay and certain tools. Every other learning session has been spent with me, myself, and the wheel doing lots of trial and error (emphasis on the error 😅). I will say that after going through this book, I’ve become more consistent with the shapes I make! The detailed pictures show ways I can position my hands, which made things a bit smoother! (I suppose I could YouTube all of this as well... I’m just more of a book person🤷🏼‍♀️).

Hi! I’m Rachel and I am the founder of Lottie Pottery. Making pottery is something I’ve always wanted to do, but never did. So I changed that and bought my first wheel! On this page you will find my custom, small batch pieces as well as the journey of teaching myself how to throw pottery. Stick around and let’s see how this goes! 🤍
