BMW i8
The new BMW i8 plug-in hybrid, due in showrooms in September, is intended as a sports car for a new age, breaking through engineering and technological barriers.
While it seems exotic now, the lessons learned in building the i8 point the way to energy-efficient future for mainstream cars that combine power plants in new ways and use airplane-like lightweight construction with extensive use of aluminum and carbon-fiber.
"The combination of incredible styling, performance, and efficiency wrapped in carbon-fiber reinforced plastic is significant on many levels," says Ron Cogan, publisher of the Green Car Journal, which follows advanced-car developments. "It's a breakthrough."

Dignified and restrained
An entry-level Q7 Premium model with the base, four-cylinder engine goes for around $56,000, including $995 in destination charges. That gets you most of the Q7's fundamental goodness, though not many of its more advanced features. By comparison, my tester here rings up for $75,290, which is certainly rich though by no means unreasonable. If you've got extra cash burning a hole in your bank account, you should have no trouble inflating that figure by at least another 10 grand by opting for features like night vision ($2,500), a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system ($4,900), laser headlights ($1,650) and even four-wheel steering ($1,500).
There's plenty to like about the Q7. Unlike some of its rivals including the BMW X5 and Acura MDX, this Audi is neither loud nor flamboyant. Instead, it's dignified and restrained, an exceedingly mature luxury SUV with impeccable taste.

The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car that has been manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.
The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth generation Altima.
The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

The Boat Tail is based on the same platform as the Phantom and likely powered by the same V12 but three of these luxury behemoth have been hand-built for clienst who “share a deep appreciation of contemporary nautical design”. Like its name, the design picks inspiration by large boats or yachts, if you will. Fun fact: the couple who've commissioned this build also own a 1932 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail which they've had restored just in time as their new expensive set of wheels arrives home.

Rolls-Royce had started building their first ever SUV back in 2015. While the luxury marque connoisseurs weren’t really enthused, the British car maker had their idea of future etched clearly. Built on the new aluminium architecture that underpins the latest flagship, the Phantom VIII, the Cullinan has turned out to be one of the best looking luxury SUVs as well.
Named after the largest diamond to be ever found, the Cullinan carries forward the legacy of the large Pantheon grille, the palace doors and unlimited opulence. The typical Rolls-Royce styling of the upright grille in the front and the rectangular LED headlamps with the signature fender is unmistakeable. From the front, the silver bash-plate under the front bumper is the only thing that gives away the SUV credentials.
