hello character who is desperate to be a good person; i want to play a game. in front of you is the one person you will never be able to save. you have the rest of your life to make peace with this. there are no defined repercussions if you fail, but we both know you're going to attempt to win regardless. your time starts now

I'm just putting this out there because I'm thinking about it and because I want people to know it's not just them.
I don't really read fic anymore. It's not because I stopped liking it, though. It's because I made a rule for myself that I'm not able to follow.
I told myself that if I read a fic, I should comment on it. And not just "I loved it!" but a detailed comment. A live reaction or at least quoting favourite lines. Maybe talk about symbolism or about references I caught or about characterization etc.
I did that because I loved the authors I was reading and because I'd received so many lovely comments like that and I wanted to be able to pass that joy onto others. But then I found it hard to actually comment like that.
I could manage it sometimes? Oneshots weren't too hard, for example, but multichaps? My rule was that I had to comment every chapter. And the kinds of comments I wanted to write, well that meant reading on my laptop because I hate typing on my phone.
Eventually, I felt so guilty when I read fic without commenting on it that I stopped reading fic altogether. Better to just not read if I wasn't able to hold up my end of the bargain.
I shifted out of my fandom not long after that, and I haven't found a new one that's sparked the same interest (ie obsession), so I don't know if I might be able to fix this habit if I ever get into a new fandom in the future. All I know is, don't be like me.
Comment as you can and when you can, but don't set up strict rules like I did. I can't speak for all authors of course, but I know that personally, I'd rather you enjoy my work without commenting at all rather than make yourself feel so guilty you stop reading it altogether.

Don't know if I've talked about this before, but I believe the original gems were supposed to be the race of inorganic matter - but with adamant, the admirabilis, and the lunarians carried their human traits, and deflected them on to the gems. I believe they would've all been happy little rocks together if not for the influences around them. They were carved to look like humans, they could become stressed to the point of breaking - they weren't made to take on the mental tolls of humans inflicted upon them. I really don't blame any of the gems because I think they were all just trying to live by the rules and pressures of the bygone era of humanity (Sound familiar?). The world wasn't ready for them. It was too early. They developed souls and were able to be transformed into Lunarians because they had been turned human.
Now we have the second generation of rocks and gems, and they are free of humanity, of worry and of duty - they're all happy and kind and free-thinking.
In a happy world, I wish the gems could've lived in this age and just be free.

So anyway I just binge read through the entirety of Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous). It’s been on the edges of my radar for awhile so when I saw that it was complete I thought now was as good a time as any. I didn’t realize the EMOTIONS that I was signing up for. I need to reread it so I can apply full knowledge to analyze things and also to properly hate everyone who ever made Phos even a little bit sad. Also the ending is absolutely perfect but nevertheless infuriates me for reasons.

Always love how much folklore especially creature folklore emphasizes that there is a way for you to win. These are the steps to ensure the dead don't rise: take them out through a hole in the wall and give them iron shoes. Vampires cannot abide sunlight. If you hear a dog howl on a churchyard path turn around and get home as fast as you can. Iron and salt and the colour red. None of this doomed idea, the world is incomprehensible but if you're a bit clever you'll survive it just fine, there's always ways out.

DS9: What if we had a villain, and he was charismatic, interesting, entertaining even, a man who’s affable and charming and like he’s someone you could almost like but he was a genocidal fascist
DS9: What if he started down a road to redemption and then
DS9: What if we don’t redeem him, what if the point is a man can be all of those good things but he’s still a racist, fascist murderer and doesn’t deserve to be redeemed because at his core he’s an evil, evil man and his narrative reward is defeat and death at the hands of the black man who represents the bridge between men and gods
DS9: Meet Gul Dukat

Mundane adventures of (don't call me) Superboy, featuring Simon Valentine and Taonui Mun.
Canon once again got so close to giving me the superfam + AAPI migrant solidarity narrative with Tana Moon, but of course they fumbled the bag with her :( Anyway give me a chance, I wanna fix it.

A while back, I remember seeing a post complaining about "lazy" recipes that that start with choppingvan onion. Anyway, I just saw a video of Gordon Ramsey showing the correct way to chop an onion, and so it turns out that I have been doing it wrong my entire life. The correct way is so much easier. Mind fucking blown.
