Just a quick mini rant:

Before you leave a rude comment on a fic, try remembering that the author you’re speaking to is a whole ass human being. You just see a fic, attached to an account on a website. You’re not seeing the whole person. You have no idea what’s going on in their life, or what they’re going through right now. You just see their online persona which is only a fraction of who they are as a person.

They could’ve had a terrible day and then have to deal with your rude comment on top of that. For a lot of us, writing is an escape from reality, and we put a lot of ourselves into our fics. So seeing them judged harshly can be pretty painful sometimes.

You just see the fic. You don’t see the hours/days/weeks and sometimes even months/years that it took us to write that fic. You don’t see how we agonize over certain parts, rewriting, deleting, and otherwise editing until we finally decide it’s good enough to post. You also don’t see how we’re sometimes too nervous to even post it at all.

At the end of the day, we fanfic writers are doing this for free. Sacrificing our own free time to provide the fandoms we love with new content, usually with no compensation in return. Only to have to occasionally deal with rude and obnoxious comments. And just to be clear, I’m not talking about genuine criticism. You can give criticism without being rude or disrespectful about it. I mean the trolls who have nothing better to do than trying to ruin someone else’s day for no reason.

So please, just be kind to each other. We’re all human after all. And this argument also applies to fan-artists too. Just be kind to the people who are putting in the effort to create content for the fandoms you love. Because if you’re not, then you’re just going to discourage them from making content.

So there's a few hiccups for me with the kyalin pairing. First, Lin was in love with Tenzin. So dating his older sister afterwards seems a little awkward (not that it hasn't happened before irl). Secondly, they really are polar opposites, while some people do say they attract; those relationships really require a lot of common ground to stay happyily ever after. I feel these two get paired due to similar age vs actual plausibility. However, with that being said, I have been inspired to write poetry from fanart with these two. I wouldn't be opposed to a good fic that addresses and handles these pairing concerns in a clever way. So, not a OTP for me, but not ruled out by any means.

Linzolt

So I actually had to look this one up. My first instinct was 'no way'. However, putting to bed my reservations and giving it some thought, I suppose it -could- be in the realm of plausibility. I think this pairing would have to go way back, and have some kind of catalyst that brings them together because we already know Lin is usually very by the book as they say. They would have some really big challenges to make the ship work but i think if handled with due thought; it could make for quite the journey of love with lots of road bumps and angst etc.

You've hit me with some good rarepairs because I also had to look this ship up ha! I'm assuming we are talking Lin x Asami’s mom. Tell me more! Torrent affair? How did it come about? Does the timeline change when Lin comes about? I can see threads of something perhaps there. It doesn't feed my muses but I would be interested in seeing the creative liberties taken with this pairing.

I might turn a few heads with this one but, it doesn't bother me. I could see the transition from fighting in youth to lovers in teens etc. Sort of path. I would be open to reading fics regarding this pairing and enjoying fanart depictions. I think there would need to be a way for them to overcome the jealousy and hurt that happens in their shared childhood. I would also be interested in a fic that sort of addresses the challenges they face with keeping their love a secret or what happens when it's discovered :)

This is the only thing I'll say about the ATLA live action: my fondest hope is that it brings in new fans, and that those fans and old fans can see each other as additive. Fandom is not a zero sum game. Old fans of the original aren't obligated to like the new stuff, or watch it, or engage with it or to treat it as canon, any more than new fans are obligated to think the original was better or see it as the "true" source. Fan art doesn't have to reflect the way the characters look in the LA to be valid; nor does it have to ignore it. A character or relationship getting more or different screen time doesn't take away from different characters or relationships in the original show. Nothing is "more canon" or "less canon" for it appearing or not in the LA. The LA does not invalidate the cartoon. The cartoon does not invalidate the LA. Rather, there can be alternate endings, multiple interpretations, as well as fan works of every describable flavor for every imaginable ship or scenario, and they're all good and valid and contribute to what we call fandom. The ATLA multiverse, if you will. Embrace it.

I hope all ATLA fans can respect each other as fans, find what appeals to them, ignore what doesn't, and enjoy having more people in their sandbox because it's more fun that way. If you don't like somebody else's sandcastle, build your own. Without knocking theirs down.

I have zero hope of this but just thought I'd say it.

I can buy that Kuvira is capable of being manipulative but Bataar Jr said he felt overshadowed. Which tracks considering he is a Jr. I did say yesterday that I’d never met a guy named after his father who didn’t have issues and boy is that lining up. But honestly these kind of issues can come up in a family without the necessity of brainwashing. A more likely case is that Bataar Jr had resented Suyin and Bataar for years and Kuvira just validated his feelings.

Give your son some credit Suyin, he’s not 12. But considering Suyin’s own problems with accountability it shouldn’t be shocking that she’s one of those nightmarish mothers who believes her precious baby boy can do no wrong. 😑

Israel has started putting out loads of "evidence" that the Hamas headquarters are below the Al-Shifa hospital.

Their "evidence" is a CGI video that they made themselves showing the whole hospital and then zooming in and going below ground to show a sprawling, multi-level "headquarters" with little CGI-people with guns roaming around on metal platforms and such. Here's the link to Netan-fuck-you's twitter, and the video. 50/50 odds on it vanishing within 24 hours, so if anyone wants to embed the video into a reblog of this post in order to preserve it in all its bullshit glory, please do.

Their second piece of evidence is a phone call recording where the two people are "overheard" saying THEE most obvious script I've ever heard in my life, which basically amounts to "Well you know how the headquarters of Hamas are under the Al-Shifa hospital?" "The headquarters of Hamas are under the Al-Shifa hospital?" "Yeah, the headquarters of Hamas are under the Al-Shifa hospital." It's literally that badly done. I can't now find the video of it, but if someone has it, pls link it. The version I saw was shared by SkyNews (🤮)

Make no mistake. This is israel getting ahead of the global narrative. This is Israel justifying their bombing of a hospital before they do it.

They bombed the Al-Ahli hospital, and the world responded with an enormous wave of outrage and recriminations, so Israel immediately tried to claim that Hamas did it, and then they said that actually no, it was Palestinian Jihadists (who don't even operate out of Gaza; they're all based in the West Bank).

They know full well that if they bombed another hospital, they wouldn't be able to claim it was Hamas/PJ.

So now they're laying all this groundwork, disseminating blatantly falsified "evidence" of a sprawling secret terrorist bunker hidden beneath the main hospital in Gaza, where its estimated that 50,000 people are sheltering.

Israel has succeeded in completely cutting off almost all of Gazas communications. Al Jazeera has managed to make contact with one correspondent they have on the ground via satellite connection, but their contact with him has been extremely spotty. People in Gaza cannot call emergency services or upload images/footage to twitter or anything. They are completely and utterly dark, and this is absolutely by design on Israel's part.

If Al-Shifa hospital is still standing by this time tomorrow, I will be shocked.

Israel is laying the groundwork now so that when they level the hospital and kill every single person inside it, the public will justify it for them. "Yeah but Hamas had a huge headquarters underneath," the public will say. "It's not Israel's fault that Hamas hiding underneath hospitals," they'll say. "Israel's just trying to root out Hamas! It's awful that so many civilians died, but that's what happens when terrorists use civilians as shields" they'll say, as though killing a human shield in order to get to the bad guy is acceptable literally anywhere in the world, much less when the "shields" amount to well over 7,000 civilians.

Do not fall for the propaganda. Do not allow Israel to bomb another hospital without forcing them to fave the backlash for it (even if they didn't do Al-Ahli, they've attacked hospitals and health centres repeatedly in the past). Do not let your country's politicians justify the slaughter of a hospital full of civilians just to get at the (alleged!!) terrorist base below. Do not let your colleagues or friends or family justify the razing of a hospital full of innocent men, women, and children.

We can't do much to stop them, but by fuck can we do everything in our power to make sure they don't get away with it.
