The way the beast stammered made it seem unsure and Ojiro filed that away for later. An unsure dragon? No one would believe him if he told anyone, dragons were supposed to be fierce and fearless creatures, they didn’t get unsure. That’s what humans said, at least, but what do they know? The creatures probably feel just like they do, after all. Still, it was something he felt he needed to remember, though he was unsure why.

His lips parted to send back a snarky response when a quiet cough caught his attention and he felt suspicion pool deep in his gut. Something was off, the dragon was acting off now and he didn’t know why. The way the wings unfurled didn’t even seem to frighten him at this point, the blonde’s hidden expression one of confusion. He didn’t understand what was happening or why the beast’s demeanor had changed so quickly.

“Or else what, beast?”

As the smoke cleared, he expected to see a terrifying dragon standing there, towering over him and getting ready to bite his head off.

Instead, he was met with a hybrid who was grinning at him and seemed almost nervous. Something about the whole scenario pulled a muffled snort from him before it slowly began to rise into booming laughter. An arm curled around Ojiro’s torso as he laughed, body curling in on itself as he tried to calm himself. He knew he wouldn’t appreciate being laughed at if he was in the hyrbid’s face, but this was just insane. In what universe did a dragon and a human produce offspring? How would that even happen?

“I-I’m sorry, I don’t m-mean to laugh.”

His voice wavered, but he seemed to at least be gaining control of his laughter. He stood straight once more, arm still curled around him and mask hiding a grin. A few deep breaths later and the blonde was calmed, free hand raising to rub his eyes. This was insane.

“I apologize, I just wasn’t expecting that. Normally one would be consumed at this point, not smiled at.”

Had it not been the dead of night, following a day of adventure and action for the young hybrid, this stranger would have come face to face with a menacing dragon. Instead, the hybrid’s smile faltered and a small scowl replace it, the boy letting out a puff of smoke as he huffed indignantly. 

“ One Man, laughing is rude. TWO...human meat ain’t good for me all things considered ”

He held up two clawed fingers as he spoke, making sure to emphasis the claws in particular as he stared the other down. Despite this, any hint of even fake malice had dispersed long ago, though the hybrid was still tense as his eyes looked the other over.  Kirishima didn’t drop his guard, but he did take note of the lack of aggression the other showed. It seemed like they could avoid fighting, thankfully. 

“ FINALLY, I can and will kill you if you try anything. But I really don’t wanna, so Man you need to get out of here. I ain’t the only one in this forest after all! ”

He grimaced slightly - even his blunt straight to the point threats sounded fake. The hybrid simply wasn’t an aggressive soul by nature not matter how much dragon blood he had - he was still half human. If he didn’t know any better, he might even say he was more human than beast even if it mattered not in the eyes of Men. Red eyes drifted away momentarily, eyeing the dark forest around them warily. Without his large form, he couldn’t mask the scent of the stranger easily and if they lingered too long, well, he was sure his siblings would pursue.  He folded his arms across his chest, closing his wings once more as he considered their options. 

“ You’re gonna have to follow me outta here unless you WANT to be dragon food though. The others ain’t nice and they won’t hesitate....”

His eyes snapped back towards the other, and he let out another huff, more smoke billowing out between his lips. 

“ And you can call me Kirishima, if you’re willing to be friendly and follow me without a fight anyways. ”

Ojiro knew he should just leave, let the beast think it scared him, let it keep it’s pride.

Wow, that was more cruel than he intended.

While the assassin knew he was being idiotic, he couldn’t help his amusement, however. All stories told about dragons were those of these beasts of creatures that kill on sight, not of one that will make conversation with a lost human, not of one that let humans whom have trespassed on its territory live. Then again, no stories of kind dragons have been told, stories of beasts that have saved humans and other beasts. The only time Ojiro heard stories like that was from older people whom were dubbed crazy by villagers for saying there was such thing as a kind beast.

The large burst of flames made that amusement he had been feeling fade, worry slowly replacing it. He hadn’t expected the large amount of flames and it caused him to step back slightly impulsively. The only thing keeping him from finally backing down was the way the beast’s voice seemed not nearly aggressive as it had been before. It sounded different, it was just mildly concerning. Was the beast trying to scare him off hurt in some way? Was that why it was acting the way it was? 

“If I could go back the way I came, I would have by now. These woods are fairly confusing, however.”

His head snapped towards where he heard twigs snapping, body lowering slightly. Whatever broke those twigs didn’t sound nearly as big as the dragon had and something about that worried him. Was he right? Was he actually surrounded and only just now realizing it? Even the voice had sounded different, so maybe he was surrounded? He inwardly cursed and looked around the rest of the area, adjusting eyes trying to spot anything in the brush around him.

The worry the flames and possility of not being alone with the beast had caused disappeared as soon as he saw a shadowy shape, however, brows furrowing in confusion. He knew he shouldn’t approach and he knew he definitely shouldn’t have taken his hand off the handle of his blade, but the shape was bewildering. Something about it just didn’t seem right to him. It didn’t resemble any dragon he’s seen depicted in paintings and tales written in great detail. It looked…wrong.

“What on earth..?”

Right. Dragons were a magical race, and it shouldn’t have slipped his mind that the enchantments laced through the woods to fool trespassers would make it impossible to escape without a guide. If it weren’t for the seriousness of the situation, he might have laughed at his own foolishness. If he were a normal dragon he would have extinguished their life long ago, but he was half human. No matter how hard he tried, he simply couldn’t turn a blind eye to someone in need. If it cost him his life, well, at least he had his pride. 

“ W-well, you should try h-harder! ”

Even he knew when the gig was up, though he desperately tried to recover the situation. Flames flickered at his feet, and while they were certainly impressive, the area would not stay obscured for long. Heat burst from his mouth as he tried to strengthen the flame, but without his massive dragon form, the flames faded in to smoke. Coughing slightly, he backed away from the dwindling fire and swallowed nervously. This was his last chance - if he fucked this up, then there was no going back. The wings on his back shifted slightly before unfurling behind him, nearly blowing away the remaining smoke in the area. He winced slightly - oops - but continued with his charade. 

“ Last chance human - Or ELSE ”

As he spoke, the smoke finally began to clear out of the area, and within a minute the dragon-hybrid was exposed, a sheepish grin plastered on his face. He still took an intimidating posture of course, but it was plain as day that he wasn’t the fearsome beast he had portrayed moments earlier. Maybe if his first reaction hadn’t been to fucking smile, he might have been able to pull off something. Alas, Kirishima simply wasn’t an intimidating boy when given no cause. 

“..... surprise?...”

If he was lucky, he wouldn’t be killed in the next few seconds.

“Oh my god, you sap. Well, it’s only fair if I hold yours as well, right, Eiji?” He parts his fingers to look at him, his free hand reaching out for one of Kirishima’s.

“ Fair IS fair Man , you got me there~ ” 

A smug smirk slid on to his face, the red head easily snatching the offered hand. He closed the remaining distance between them quickly, leaning against the other with a happy hum. 

“ But now I’m not lettin’ go unless you literally throw me man so I guess we gotta hang out together all day! I will also accept being thrown though - sounds MANLY ”
