Her family was disappointed at first that the child was another daughter and not a son since they wished for a heir to the throne but despite that Grand Duchess Anastasia turn out to be a blessing to her family. She had a good relationship with her sisters especially Grand Duchess Maria, who finally found someone to play with, and also with her only brother Tsarevich Alexei; when he was ill she always do her best to make him smile and laugh. She was a funny, caring and loving sister. But also we have to mention that she had a very close relationship with her dad the Emperor Nicholas II who used to call her "Shvibzik" as she she, unlike her other sisters, never enjoyed studying. Anastasia was a great companion for her father, they used to play tennis together, go for a walk and do many activities together, those moments that were spent her were full of laughter, joy and pranks. Nastya was a great comfort and used to cheer her dad when he wasn't well, it's true the Emperor had a good relationship with his other daughters but he had such a special bond with his tomboy daughter as they both had a sense of humour and always have fun together. Unlike her mother, Nicholas II seems to accept her misbehaviour. One time he even make fun of her horrible misspellingย . Overall Anastasia truly proved that she could be more than blessing to her family and especially to her father, with whom she had a very strong and close relationship full of love, care support and laughter, without forgetting to mention that even in the 1997 movie of Anastasia, it was clear how Anastasia and her dad had a strong bond together. At seven the next morning, someone brought the dying Kaiser the bouquet of flowers he had ordered for his daughter Sophie's birthday. He had planned a family celebration, a boating picnic on the Havel. But Vicky scarcely left his side that day, writing out his whispered fears when he could not do it himself : ' What is happening to me ? ' Are the doctors content with me ?'. Princess Helena, 3rd daughter and 5th child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert (in the centre), holding a lily with her younger siblings ; Princess Louise on the left wearing a classical robe and plucking a pink rose, a butterfly hovering above her head; and Prince Arthur on the right, addressing Princess Helena. This miniature by Sir William Ross is at odds with Queen Victoria's own account of her gift of this miniature to the Prince for this birthday in 1853 (RA QVJ: 24 May 1853): I gave Albert, as a souvenir of the day Ross's really beautiful miniature of the 3 Children, with which he was delighted, both as to painting & likeness. It is in the Italian style & the grouping & colouring beautiful. He could hardly believe Ross could have done such a painting. I owned to the original idea being mine, & had been nervously anxious that he should approve, knowing what a judge he is & what taste he has! #queenvictoria #princesshelena #princearthur #princesslouise #princealbert #victoria #victorian #painting https://www.instagram.com/p/CemUd_eMPi0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

-Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine- was born #onthisday 6 June 1872 at the New Palace in Darmstadt, Hesse. She was the sixth child and fourth daughter of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom. Through her mother, she was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. She was given the nickname โ€œSunnyโ€ by her mother, due to her cheerful disposition, a nickname later adopted by her husband. While her relatives called her โ€œAlickyโ€, to distinguish her from her aunt the Princess of Wales. Her merry childhood was overshadowed by grief. A year after her birth, her haemophiliac brother Friedrich โ€œFrittieโ€ died. In 1878, both her sister Marie โ€œMayโ€ and mother died from diphtheria. These traumatic events quickly made Alexandra an overwhelmingly serious, reserved and withdrawn character that she is portrayed today. In 1894, taking the name Alexandra Feodorovna, she married Nicholas II of Russia. Within ten years, their union produced five children. But of her children, none brought greater relief than her youngest and only son Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich. The joy of producing an only heir was quickly tainted with tragedy. He was haemophiliac, and Alexandra gave her every energy for her only boy. โ€œLove for her husband and children was its dominant trait. She was an ideal wife and mother; her worst enemies could not deny her this. She was a very womanly woman, and not always logically reasonable when it was a case of conflict between reason and affection. Her intellect was always subordinate to her heart. . . The Empress has been cruelly maligned and grossly wronged. Her want of political experience, her trust in the innate good of humanity, made her commit many political errors. But in everything she did, she was guided solely by her love for the country of her adoption.โ€ Baroness Sophie Buxhoedeven #empressalexandrafeodorovna #alexandrafeodorovna #alixofhesse #romanovfamily https://www.instagram.com/p/Cejygv2s_fg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Nicknamed ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป she was described lively, outspoken and something of a tomboy little girl , reacting by punching the bully on the nose against brotherly teasing. Princess ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฎ had a very close relationship with her elder brother Prince ๐—”๐—น๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ, who was the second son and fourth child of the Queen. Being next to each other in age, they were close throughout childhood, and ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป was almost as good as him when it comes to understanding machinery. She enjoyed steering the steam yacht Fairy in all weathers and did so with the calmness of an adult. To her mother's chargin she was quite uninterested in her appearance, tying her hair back with an old piece of ribbon while she spent hours below deck, getting her hands covered with grease, learning exactly how steam worked. It was her father who championed her against teasing on account of her apparently unladylike, practical ways. ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป grew up to be one of the toughest, physically speaking, of the royal sisters. It was hardly surprising that sport appealed to her more than her work in the schoolroom. She was great at swimming and racing and even loved watching the boys playing football. With her deep voice and long striding gait, and her dislike of trailing around in long skirts, she longed to be an athlete, or at least to lead a more outdoor life. In the dramas and tableaux vivants which thรฉ children often staged for their parents' amusement, Princess ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฎ generally took the part of a boy. -THE COUSINS; QUEEN VICTORIA AND VICTOIRE, DUCHESS DE NEMOURS, BY FRANZ XAVER WINTERHALTER 1852- . Victoire, duchesse de Nemours (1822-1857), was first cousin to both the Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the daughter of their uncle, Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg. A childhood playmate of Prince Albert at Rosenau, Victoire was described by Queen Victoria as โ€˜like a dear sister to usโ€™ (Benson and Esher 1908). She married Louis, duc de Nemours, second son of the King of France, in April 1840, only two months after the royal wedding in England. Eight years later she was forced into exile with the rest of the French royal family by the Revolution of 1848, living at Claremont House in Surrey. The Duchess was a frequent visitor to Buckingham Palace and it was there that โ€˜secretโ€™ sittings took place for The Cousins: โ€˜Dear Victoire & Nemours came to luncheon, & remained til after 3, Vic sat to Winterhalter for the secretโ€™ (Journal, 29 June, 1852). The sitters occupy a two seater โ€˜tรชte-a-tรชteโ€™, in the style of Georges Jacob but not recognisably from the Royal Collection. The background landscape with hills and a river may be imaginary. Queen Victoria wrote that Prince Albert was โ€˜greatly pleasedโ€™ with the painting (Journal, 26 August, 1852). The duchesse de Nemours died in 1857 at Claremont at the age of thirty-five, after giving birth to her fourth child, Blanche. Soon after, Queen Victoria compiled a commemorative album which included a watercolour of the Duchess on her deathbed. She also commissioned three additional copies of The Cousins from William Corden, and a bust of Victoire from Marochetti. The Queen wrote of her cousin, โ€˜She was so dear, so good โ€“ one of those pure, virtuous, unobtrusive characters who make a home peaceful, cheerful and happyโ€™. The picture was hung in the Queenโ€™s Bedroom at Osborne. ______________________________ . -Tsar Nicholas II Of Russia- Emperor Nicholas II was born #onthisday 18 May 1868 in the Alexander Palace as the first child of Future Emperor Alexander III and his wife the future Empress Maria Feodorovna. โ€œโ€ฆ The pangs were stronger and stronger, and Minnie suffered a lot. Papaโ€ฆ helped me to hold my darling all the time. At last, at half past two, came the last minute and all the suffering stopped at once. God sent us a son whom we gave the name of Nikolai. What a joy it was, it is not to be described. I rushed to embrace my darling wife who cheered up at once and was terrifically happy. I was crying like a babyโ€ฆ We embraced with Papa and Mama wholeheartedlyโ€ฆ We drank tea and talked with Minnie till 11, and I went several times to admire our little angel, and they took him to Minnie, too.โ€ Nikolasha had a good and not stressful childhood although his was not prepared yet to be the future Emperor of such a mighty Empire as Russia. He received a military education, and his tastes and interests were those of the average young Russian officers of his day. He had intellectual pretensions but delighted in physical exercise and the trappings of army life: uniforms, insignia, parades. Yet on formal occasions he felt ill at ease and was naturally timid. As an autocratic leader, he made many mistakes and often miscalculated such situations. Even tho he wasn't a good Tsar no one can admit that he wasn't a good father and devoted husband. #tsarnicholasii #nicholasii #tsar #nicholas #ofrussia #romanovdynasty #space #moon #sun https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd1ZuZFMYAE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

+ The Denmark daisies + Princesses Dagmar and Alexandra of Denmark, were the eldest daughters of Christian IX of Denmark. Princess Dagmar became Empress Maria Feodorovna, the consort of Alexander llI, Emperor of Russia, and Princess Alexandra became the consort of King Edward VIl. In 1873, Maria, Alexander, and their two eldest sons made a journey to England. When Maria stepped off the boat to greet Alexandra, it was instantly apparent that the royal sisters were wearing identical outfits. They continued to dress alike for the entirety of the visit, the result of a plan months in the making. It was a logistical nightmare, arranging for the dresses to be made in Paris beforehand and ensuring their arrival in time for the visit. It was a show of Danish solidarity by sisters separated geographically. --Painting by Elisabeth Baumann-- #dagmarofdenmark #alexandraofdenmark #queenalexandra #mariafeodorovna #empressmariafeodorovna #alexandraofunitedkingdom #danishroyalfamily #danish #princesses https://www.instagram.com/p/Cdgt_F-sVAq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

ยซ๐“‘ertie met death with courage. At one moment he said, โ€˜I am feeling better and intend to fight this, and I shall be about again in a day.โ€™ He refused to go to bed that night, but sat up in a chair, fighting for breath and unable to speak. In the morning he was wrose, but he insisted on dressing. He rejected the informal clothes laid out for him by his valet, and asked for grey trousers. He was angry when the doctors forbade him from having a bath. He tried to do business with Davinson and Knollys but his voice was faint and indistinct. He smoked half a cigar and had a violent coughing fit. Outside Buckingham Palace, a crowd gathered waiting for news. Margot Asquith was ne of the first to go to the palace to sign her name, โ€™It is like a dream and all London is standing still with anxietyโ€™, she wrote. At one p.m., Bertie walked to his bedroom window to play with his canaries, and fainted. Nox the oxygen was given almost continuously and so were the strychnine injections, but to less and less effect; he gradually lost consciousness during the afternoon, slumping forward in his chair. The last authentically recorded words that Bertie spoke were โ€™I am so gladโ€™, when Georgie told him that his horse Witch of the Air had won the 4.15 at Kempton park. He then suffered an alarming heart attack. Alix watched as her husband drifted into a coma. At eleven, they lifted him out of his chair into bed, quite unconscious. The Prince of Wales called the archbishop into the Kingโ€™s bedroom at 11.30. Fifteen minutes later, the King was dead. โ€™I have seldom or never seen a quieter passing of the river,โ€™ wrote the archbishop.ยป ย  ย  {Bertie by Jane Ridley} #king #edward #vii #kingedward #kingedwardvii #edwardvii #kinggeorge #georgev https://www.instagram.com/p/CdWTSE5s9hS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

His early life gave little indication of his ultimate potential, with the death of his uncle Tsar Alexander I childless and the renouncement of his other uncle Grand Duke Konstantin's rights to the throne, Alexander Nicholaevich was the new heir after the succession of his father Tsar Nicholas I in 1825. During his life as Tsarevich, Sacha was overshadowed by the overpowering personality of his formidable and often dominating father, from whose authoritarian principles of government he was never to free himself and even the intellectual atmosphere of Saint Petersburg did not afford any particular change: the freedom of thought and all forms of private initiative were suppressed vigorously by the order of his father. Personal and official censorship was rife; criticism of the authorities was regarded as a serious offence.Tsarevich Alexander Nicholaevich received a Liberal education and became familiar with modern European languages. He also took several trips becoming the first Romanov to visit Siberia. He was described as looking like a German, somewhat of a pacifist, a heavy smoker and card player. At the age of 37, he succeeded the throne as Tsar Alexander II upon the death of his father during the Crimean War which caused the empire alot of failures. Tsar Alexander II had to introduce reforms on such a massive scale that they were comparable to the grandiose reforms of his famed ancestor, Peter the Great. In order to carry out these reforms across the country, peace was required. He also managed to abolished serfdom. Thanks to these reforms Russia was able to recover from the effects Crimean War and witnessed developments in many fields.
