okay i am fully convinced in my head that laura palmer is a lesbian she seems to only ever use sex with men to harm herself and in the book she talked about preferring it with women/caring more for women. also the fact that she never really liked her boyfriends (using bobby for cocaine/using james for attention - calling him boring) but cared for and loved donna (and ronnette) so deeply and worried about their wellbeing

My headcanon for bi Hunter is he is very much leaning towards girls but he knows he's bi because back when he was reading Rulers Reach a few months ago, there happened to be one character written by Luz that King approved of because he was edgy and cool enough (although King did cut out all of his pointless romance bullshit) so he managed to survive the final draft. It was a recycled version of this guy.
Tumblr media
Anyway everytime he appeared in a chapter Hunter was like "ok. OK. hm. HM. OK!!!!!" He was very normal about it.
The only person he's told about this is Luz during one of their bi-weekly "laying on the kitchen floor at 3am talking about stupid shit" sessions. And Luz, who has grown out of her fixation with edgelord YA love interests just asks "Really? Really?" And Hunter is immediately spluttering like "j-just just just hear me out he's actually-shut up shut up stop smiling right now Luz I said shut up jUST HEAR ME OUT!!!!!"

I still can't believe people misinterpret this to be Kaito being homophobic when he's upset because he thinks Shuichi came out of the closet and never told him.
In Kaito's FTEs, he says communication is the most important thing for an astronaut. Communication. You know what isn't communication? Not telling your bestie you're kinda gay.
His reaction isn't displaying anything like "WOAH EW NO NOT THE GAY FOR ME" he's literally upset because he thinks Shuichi kept his sexual orientation a secret form him.
Anyway biting the haters for trying to say Kaito's homophobic because that's just fucking wrong.
(And if I remember correctly his LSE was VERY "Rivals to lovers" gay coded so SUCK IT ANTIS.)

I wonder if the people on the Bridgerton subreddit know how severely homophobic they are?
Reading things like ‘it would break my heart if this character is gay, why can’t they just make a new side character that’s gay???’ in the year of 2024 makes me want to scream.

The Way of Kings - Brandon Sanderson (Stormlight Archive #1)
4.75/5 - Kaladin my beloved!!! Shallan my beloved!!! Jasnah my crazy weird older sister!! truly my love for this book knows no bounds; fewer pace issues than I remember; really solid start to the series
Minor spoilers for Words of Radiance!
Truly I forgot just how much happens in this book. 1200 pages of straight insanity.
Anyway, I do think this is a very intriguing entry into an epic fantasy. Everything that Mistborn does well in the introduction to its magic system, Stormlight does with more finesse and tWoK is truly a masterclass on character introduction.
I also appreciate how rich each of the side characters feel. Each of them clearly have conflicting motivations and independent goals and they never feel like they only exist to prop up our central POV characters. They challenge not only the characters' beliefs on what is right and wrong, but the beliefs that we, as audience members, absorb from reading in specific POVs.
More than the side characters, whom I love dearly, I just cannot heap enough praise on the characterization of both Kaladin and Shallan. To have two characters, both so clearly traumatized, and show them reacting to that in different ways and having that play on their strengths and weaknesses, flaws and skills, is something very rarely undertaken and even more rarely pulled off. The tension between a character who is so open about their feelings and their failures and another who seeks to hide her past and parts of herself is such a delightful payoff in WoR.
Furthermore, I do enjoy the little pictures and interludes that Sanderson includes. In my opinion, the addition of these small things really elevates the novel from his past work and makes it feel very lived in. Just because we're focusing on the Shattered Plains and Kharbranth because our main characters are there does not mean that those are the only places with things going on. I found it really refreshing to be reminded that this is a large world and our story takes place in only a small part of it.
Docked 0.25 of a point because I always find that Dalinar's sections drag on a bit. No shade to him, I just don't particularly care about his sections at the beginning, especially when they're sandwiched between Kaladin and Shallan POV chapters. However, they are necessary for understanding the plot/stakes and they help the plot marinate a little bit. An epic can't be an epic if it doesn't take a while to tell.

Just realised it's been a while since I posted art, so here have some new characters I definitely didn't need to make
Tumblr media
The poses are referenced from some Disney princess official art that I'll put under the read more.
Their names are Melissa and Renee (left to right). Here they are as little girls:

It's possible that Melissa might like bows. And the colour pink. And puffy sleeves.

— open starter.
status - open to all, but pls read my rules and mobile about (pinned post) first before interacting. don't like my starters. muse - vasti inaiê souza gonçalves, sculptor, potter and printmaker. bisexual, uses she/her pronouns. human, thirty. wanted opposites (in order of priority) - m/nb/f, 30+. mocs (muns/muses of color) preferred. wanted connections - literal strangers, an ex, fellow artist, someone they haven't seen since sixth grade, as long as they're a little richer than vasti is (and not related) go literally batsh*t plot - they're on their way to personally deliver one of their commissions but they haven't slept well in over 48 hours (they've slept enough to not get pulled over, they can drive) and really should have hired a truck or sent it through the post but hey they've done it before and the client is right across town (or city, cough) so it shouldn't be too bad right? they'll make it except you just kind of yk. rear-ended them at the stoplight and their sh*t's in the trunk bc it couldn't fit in the back seat and now you might have just f*cked sh*t up if that packing wrap isn't as good as it's marketed to be. potential meet cute with insurance problems and career threatening happenings basically, what could be better than that
Tumblr media
— she hears it before she feels it, the way the body of the car lurches underneath her at the street corner. the rattling in the back is too loud for her to ignore, and she's already doing inventory on what she has with her. registration papers, house keys, studio keys, that flat tire kit she's never had to use in her life and hopes she won't have to now, the delivery— oh God, fuck, the delivery. in the trunk. surrounded by a shit ton of bubble wrap and cling film and whatever the fuck else she wrapped it in at 3am two days ago and placed it in its box, but last she checked no flat tire makes that kind of sound like the kind where there's a bit too much metal and you know in your gut you'll need to call your insurance company. both of them, in her case, if the vehicle in her rearview mirror is giving anything to go by. que se lixe isso, this is not a good day. her blood pressure was not made for this. neither was her neck, for that matter, but she doubts there was enough speed behind the impact to cause any whiplash worth worrying about. she unlocks her phone as she steps out, car door slamming closed behind her, insurance already on speed dial. as a precaution she takes a few photos of the other car's license plate, now neatly tucked (along with the front bumper) just barely under her chassis—she is not paying for this shit if she doesn't have to, especially if the driver in question has enough money to be driving a car like that right into her sedan and especially if they might have just jeopardized her commission. three months, hundreds of hours, possibly damaged in her trunk because it's the one day she didn't have her morning coffee and decided to put it there instead of the backseat, bubble wrap or no bubble wrap. yeah, she'll milk every last penny from that payout while she's at it. might as well be pissed for a reason. 'hey,' she says, coming up to the window as it rolls down, 'i'm sorry, this is going to sound so completely fucking obvious and i know this and you know this but i think you just rear-ended me? and there's something in my trunk that i really need to get out and check on before this day goes any further to shit than it already has so if you could please try and back the fuck up, it would be much appreciated. juro o túmulo da minha mãe.' her mother is alive, thank you very much, but it's not like they need to know that in english or portuguese. // @indiestarter

So about the Katherine and Will thing.
Anyways I for one, liked much more his whole thing with Katherine when it came to light she was his pseudo-sis/full sister and he manipulated her for revenge. Like also for his mother who made him promise to protect her and Elizabeth but he didn't have to seduce Kate. That was him being attracted to her and also getting to give the middle finger to Simon. Also ruthless in going for the fastest way to get Katherine and Elizabeth to his side. I totally wasn't expecting Will going for that angle but wow.
I also loved it didn't fuck him or anything, her probably being his sister, bc he has so much bigger problems going on. The fact that Katherine essentially killed herself trying to kill him in vain being one of those, alongside the whole being Sarcean Reborn thing.
lts just soo funny, bc all those traditional YA who are like, Sebastián from Shadowhunters you know? The villain who is obssesed with the female protag is also like her brother or something, and its proof that the chara is terrible, but they had a chance once, but ugh incest and they need to die, etc etc.
Only here is our protag, Will, who has so much going on, the brief detour for heterosexuality town bc Lady and him were a thing in a past life and "mother lookalike also tried to murder me" trauma is more interesting in what it says of him than the fact Katherine was kinda his sister.
Poor Katherine had to die bc this isn't a classic YA story with her as the heroine in distress with the dashing villain who tempts her. This is Will story and we only need her little sister, who is a more interesting adversary as a 10 year old seeing through his bullshit that Kate could be.
