Chapter 32: No Harm Done.

You're sitting by the sliding glass door leading out to the balcony on Sunday morning, looking out and holding a warm drink in your hands.

It's raining outside. It's always raining in England, so it shouldn't really surprise you... but it still feels like a lazy, down-sort of day regardless.

You're home alone. Johnny went to base for P.T. and a meeting of sorts, while Kyle went out to the gym himself, giving you some time for yourself.

Your phone sits in front of you, fingers tapping away, back-and-forth, between chats with friends and with the lads, your lads.

Ghost said they'd text you to let you know when they were back, a promise they'd made after they sort of just turned up at your door all injured and hurt without warning so many weeks ago.

It feels like it's been an eternity since you had them all here.

Your eyes find your chat with Simon, flittering over the last couple of texts you sent each other. Right before the boys left on their newest mission.

Regardless of what Kyle and Johnny say about Simon, he's actually the best texter out of all of them... John being the worst.

simon: Have about 5 minutes before we have to go. you: will u be safe? simon: Always am sweetheart. simon: Don't you worry about me. you: i meant ALL of you. you: and of course i worry about u! simon: If it was about all of us, you wouldn't be messaging me separately. simon: And I appreciate it but you shouldn't. you: i hate how smart u are. you: u face death literally every day in your job simon: And I always come back. you: okay but im allowed to worry no? you: youd worry about the others too? simon: I guess so. simon: But I'll be fine. you: u dont know that. simon: I know enough. simon: Been doing this for over a decade. you: that's not reassuring the way you think it is. simon: You're very worried. Is this because of what I said?

That text makes you set down your phone when you read it again, your face warm with embarrassment at the reminder, just like it had been during that text exchange as it was happening.

He had told you he loves you. Two of them had by now.

The thought of that still makes you shiver, the words so full of emotion and vulnerability when Simon said them, never any pressure on you, just a gesture on his end.

Kyle's, however, were a lot less vulnerable. They were sweet, sudden, driven by happiness and amusement...

Both of them came out of left field and caught you off-guard.

Both of them felt just as real, however.

You took a sip of your warm drink and glanced out of the window again, watching the droplets slide down the glass panes.

You can't help but think about how things have been going for you.

Is this becoming too much? Is it going too far? Did you finally lose the plot?

When did a silly little Tinder account you made with your friends while fighting heartbreak become a 4-way relationship and 2 out 4 men telling you they're in love with you?

You're lost in thought when the door opens behind you, Kyle making his way in.

"Hey, lovie." He greeted, causing you to jump a bit, spilling some of your drink over the glass top of the table.

"Ah, fuck." You complained as you reached for the napkin holder and started mopping up the liquid. "Hi, Ky." You added as you cleaned the mess you made.

"Sorry, did I catch you off guard?" He asked as he approached the table and began to help you.

"Yeah..." You murmured and looked up at him, finally, finding him in a grey sleeveless hoodie and black workout shorts.

You smiled softly at him as you gathered the wet napkins and moved to the kitchen to dispose of them.

Kyle seemed to catch the look in your eyes as you glanced up at him. "What's wrong? You seem strange..." He asked as you followed you into the kitchen.

"Just thinking, it's nothing." You told him as you turned after throwing out the rubbish, only to find him standing right behind you, looking at you with scrunched brows.

"Is this about yesterday?" He asked you softly. "Was it too early?" He added in earnest.

The memories of the day before come back to you sharply. The way, after he told you he loved you, you sputtered for a bit, your face burning up, your eyes wide...

And how you had come back home together, your nose still pink, his cheek still red, the both of you looking embarrassed and sheepish, avoiding eye contact and biting your lip.

How Johnny had teased the two of you, thinking you had gotten down and dirty in the car and that's why you had come home looking so embarrassed...

You look up at him with a sigh and shake your head. "No, it's just..." You trailed off.

"Was it because Soap teased us after we came back?" He reached forward and gently ran a hand over your cheek.

"No!" You added and sighed, leaning into his palm, and gently holding his forearm in your hand.

"I'm just worried... I've never... been in something like this before." You explained, as you looked into his eyes. "More than one partner and-"

Kyle nodded at you, watching you with understanding eyes and a soft gaze, like he wanted you to keep talking, communicating.

"I don't know how to act about this... I don't know..." You trailed off and looked away for a moment. "It's... a strange feeling."

"To love more than one person at once?" He asked you as his brows raised in inquiry.

You nodded in response and looked up at him. "Yeah... And to... have them love me back."

"So I wasn't the first to tell you, huh?" Kyle asked, having caught the way you mentioned 'more than one person' when it came to 'loving you back'.

Your face burned up hot in embarrassment and you shook your head at him.

"Simon was." You replied, which made Kyle's eyes widen and then a smile take over his lips as he shook his head.

"Wasn't expecting that..." Kyle admitted as he caressed your cheek again.

"Did you say it back for him? Like you did for me?" He asked and you nodded your head in reply.

"Well..." Kyle trailed off, seemingly lost in thought for a moment, as if pondering what to say, and how to say it. "It's not exactly a bad feeling, is it?"

You shook your head. It wasn't a bad feeling. In fact, you quite liked having said the words, having had the words said to you.

"Then, I'd say there's not a big cause for worry. We all knew this would happen, right?" He added. You, once again, nodded at him.

Gently, he cupped your face with both hands, his thumbs rubbing your cheeks. "Then, let's just... let it be." He chuckled.

"You and I love each other. You and Simon love each other. I love Simon too..." He admitted with a shrug. "No harm done, right?"

Smiling a bit more, you ended up nodding and gently pushed up, kissing him slowly and deeply, both of your eyes closing, his hands caressing your face, your hands caressing his forearms...

You're so into the kiss, you don't hear the front door close, nor Johnny approach, until he shows up at the kitchen door. "Greedy bastard, leave some space for the Tav, will ye?"

sorry i keep coming back to totk rants, but something that utterly baffles me from a game design perspective especially is

who, in their right mind, would think to put similar objectives with the same characters in the EXACT same place as its previous game when already reusing the same exact map (no, single rocks springkled around isnt a meaningful change, fight me)

like from a purely logical point of view its just ... not logical?? and TWICE so when most players will have played the previous game, so now that the exploration, which was the main driving point of it, isnt as satisfying simply bc you know most locations and what is what, the thing you need to do is subvert it as in you go to that location and theres something else now or something that leads to a new reveal, but not NOTHING either, bc you likely cared about what youd find- the satori mountain was such a cool mysterious place, so now you head to it to see what is now and its nothing but maybe an obvious treasure chest? thats both lazy (i realy use that since its way overused by people missusing it) and just ... it might be meant as a lil nod so that there isnt nothing at all but to me it feels even more condescending as if there were literally nothing instead

satori isnt here anymore? thats weird if its always been there, so you go find a cause, maybe theres a fissure somewhere you can enter a large cave system, an hidden entrance to the underground that reveals there is something corrupting the place somwhere nearby but not exactly in the same spot- make it into a bossfight at which end satori gets cleansed- maybe it got captured and taken somewhere else, to a place that was kinda neat but didint serve a big fucntion in botw like maybe it was dragged somwhere into the big tabantha canyon, or to the forgotten temple

you try to visit rito village but the snow and cold there got so bad that you cant even reach it without special gear, and when you do reach it its utterly frozen in thick ice and not a single soul is there, the perch of vah medoh is knocked over building a bridge as a subtle hint as to in what direction perhaps, its intriguing bc clearly they have to be SOMEWHERE, maybe they tried to use vah medoh to evacuate but bc its losing power and doesnt have a skilled pilot they crash land it into the mountains, now trapped there and due to the storm not able to send anyone out to get help, maybe some did but they didnt make it and you can find them on your way and rescue them, and bc of the storm being so bad no one can get out and no one can get in (except for our special boi linky ofc) and even after the storm has weakened they dont immediately go back and act like everythings normal, maybe theres an extra mission afterwards helping them rebuild the village but not exactly the same as it was but fortified, different to account for things like this happening again, establishing the crashsite of vah medoh as a second outpost, or a temple, to thank it for bringing them out of immedaite danger but couldnt go all the way

theres so many places that are so clearly modeled around botw that are entirely unused now bc they had to remove all things shiekah for no reason, the holes they left jsut being holes where somethings clearly missing or some chest with a gem in it while the new shrine thing is within view distance a few meters away, might as well have put them in the exact same place bc it really doesnt make a difference

(like alot of those ideas im using for the rewrite which changes many things but you get the point right??)

and its even worse imo with the building stuff, bc now you dont even have to journey there you can fly glide and literally drive there instantly like a giant skip button so you cant even appreaciate the way to it, you skip to one important part to the next

and then points of interest are REPEATED AGAIN, like with shrines and lightroots and settlements and big mines- that is the opposite of satisfying gameplay, you dont have to explore shit bc its all in the same place which is probably why they only did tiny changes to those few spots and nothing else bc they knew most people would run right to those so it gives the illusion of changes (which are half reversable or barely a change at all) and even those are STILL meaningless

its right up there with having even MORE grind with less substance to it than in botw, the shrines and krogs got a lil old but at least the environment, its subtle storytelling etc were something- and totk just bloated everything with more little meaningless collectables while not changing anything meaningfully (and instead pretends that some things where never there and those new boring things were always there)

more shriens with shorter puzzles or none at all, more krogs with the same reward system, over a hundred tiny caves that all blend together bc they are all so similar and you really only do them for yet another colelctable for old gear and ONE cool new one with a bad effect after which the things collected become uselessreally, souls to collect to buy you a single armor set, rewards being largley reused old stuff from botw (imo you should have a chest in your house, yes YOUR house, that got most of the standard versions of botws armor in it so you dont have to buy it all again??? but you gotta think of going home first and dont have to use it- make new versions of them alternatively so you can choose if you want the old one or new one and also LEAVE ONE AT YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT HAVING TO SELL IT SO YOUT INVENTORY ISNT AS ENDLESSLY SCROLLING AS YOUR STUPID ARROW BAR)

theres new effects from food and armor thats largely useless (like the attack when hot?? why wouldnt you you jsut combine an armor and a potion- put on hot armor and drink an attack potion? its way more efficient no?? idk i found it to be yet another effect thing to bloat my inventory especially when NPCs keep giving you shitty effect food)

the whole sonanium (zonaite?) collecting with multiple ways to convert it into yet another currency??? huh???? AND have it be the thing for you to autobuild with?? when you need it upgrade your battery which takes an insane amount of those stones?? wells, while finally an actual well are NOW ALSO LIKE A COLLECTABLE and im gonna take a wild guess that the reward is utterly disappointing too

the fairies are all blocked by much more annoying means than in botw (like i wouldnt want to carry those NPCs three meters away in their little cart antoehr time please) and the amount of material AND MONEY NOW you need is so much higher for no reason (if its their attempt to make the game harder its the lamest way to do it)-

all while instead of expanding on the foundation of botw they ripped it out to build a new one while pretending they are both there (im so so slaty about this .... a sequel like this should expand upon the stuff of the first game, both in theme, narrative, mechanics and more and not ... replace it with slightly different versions of it while abandoning everything established before and really only using it as a way to skip having to make you care about some characters bc you might still care about them from the other game)

i could go on, as always lol, anyway, i really really dont get why this got into the final game ..

got woken up by my mom saying there was a stray dog on our porch and i needed to search around online to find the owner

posted on nextdoor, found the person who lost him (a dog sitter)

fed the dog, tried to get him to stay in one place, but he was skittish and terrified and wouldnt let anyone near him

the dog sitter showed up and immediately started yelling at me for not having him on a leash (i've never had a dog and dont fucking own a dog leash)

dog was still terrified from the whole thing and ran into the alley away from the sitter, sitter yelled at me cause its my fault i guess

strangers on nextdoor now responding to my original post saying its my fault and that i let the dog loose

i realised i never went clubbing w my friends all together before this point. just w random individuals etc

having a full mental breakdown because of my shitty horrible family / barn. Romeo stays at my family members barn free of charge- this is because my dad has always helped them build their equestrian center, even before we had Romeo or planned to have Romeo. This free board has been our saving grace during tough financial times (including now) and is why I can “own” a horse in the first place. But they suck! they schedule farrier and vet visits without asking me or telling me in advance- I get a text the night before if I am lucky. My phone has been on the fritz and not receiving texts. I had no idea the farrier was today. I also have schizophrenia- this is key because between it and ptsd, my memory is HORRIBLE. I have always been forgetful, but at this point I have full memory loss. It also means I am prone to being nocturnal- due to certain symptoms, sleeping is hard for me unless I am like, eyes hurt levels of exhausted. I did not sleep today until 5 am, and as a result, slept through the farrier. Now I have my barn owners (and dad) calling me all morning- are they concerned about me, a known suicidal and severely mentally ill person? no! why would they be! I am instead met with hostility and shaming. This is a historical pattern- “why don’t you have a job????” “why are you working minimum wage and can’t hold down a job? you are too smart to burden your father like that” “excuse me??? we told you to water the flowers why we where out of town!!! if you can’t help us out, maybe Romeo should find somewhere else to live and someone else to live with” (that threat was a long sit down in which my aunt and uncle cornered me and cussed me out for not remembering to water flowers- I have memory loss. I had remembered to, by myself, take care of the four horses we had at the time and carry bales of hay out every day. My family was also doing poorly due to my dads alcoholism- something they encourage, fyi. They knew this fully and where more or less threatening to rehome Romeo on me, over two planters of $60 flowers being wilty. Mind you, they are top 1% of income. This family makes more in a year than my father makes in 10. They make more in a year than I make in 100. I was not doing it out of hostility. It was not about the flowers.). In response to me daring to talk back or defend myself, they go straight to threatening my horse- it has gone so far as for them to threaten to kill both Romeo, my dog, and my other animals, any time I say an opinion they don’t like- be it political, me trying to stand up for myself, me standing up for other family members, or even just like, me being quiet. I’ve had times where I see them doing yard work, and wave to be nice, only for them to come over and tear into me for not working or helping out more or for doing something ‘wrong’ (I recall one time when I was walking Romeo in hand around the arena, and he pulled me over to a weed. I corrected him by holding out treats to get his attention back on me, which worked. I got yelled at for not ‘teaching him a lesson’ and ‘giving him vices’ and ‘ruining [co-owners name] horse’. Because..... I didn’t instantly give him a bruise on his nose for being a horse and wanting to do horse things). I am equal parts mad at them (and dreaming of the day I can cut ties), but also feeling like the shittiest horse owner alive. I daydream of future horses all the time, but I don’t think I ever will- both financially and because I don’t know if I’m a good pet owner at all.

I cant do anything right!!! #Not to mention I cant ride. both in the sense that I am talentless but also in the sense that I am literally too heavy to ride #im now over 27% of romeos weight- a weight that was last taken nearly 10 years ago when he was in performance shape mind you so #likely more than 27% #not too many horses can carry 300+ lbs once you account for me and tack #like that leaves me with beefed up stock horses in prime shape (out of budget and I don't know enough about horses to keep them #in that shape) #and then drafts #which i cant afford because they eat too much and our farrier doesnt trim them so like #id have to pay both for a farrier who does drafts (preferably barefoot) and the drive out fee #and considering I doubt i would find a farrier super close who agrees to trim a barefoot draft like #hachi machi that sounds like a 80-100 farrier visit which is just not money my family has #not to mention like the doubt that im even a good enough handler to handle a draft! #like I click with horses and have been able to handle some spicey horses but its all been like #ponies and arabian stallion yearlings and then like #just our hot headed quarter horse whos a push over once she trusts you #I have never once handled a horse taller than me nor ridden one #I dont know shit about biomechanics or how to do dressage #like frankly compared to yall on tumblr i feel like a stupid hick #but not even like a cool one who can do cowboy stuff like #it would be different if i could say dressage who? Oscar and y/n never really made a point of discussing the privacy of their relationship. They just both sort of silently fell into an agreed digital silence with each other.

They follow each other and like each other's posts but that's the extend of it.

Y/n already having a decent following on her platforms and Oscar amassing a following from his career. Neither needed the other for some sort of clout.

So Oscar never appears on y/n's accounts and y/n never appears on Oscar's accounts.

She attends races and does get caught on broadcast and in clips of the paddock. But she has noticed that Oscar sometimes likes to insert himself in other ways. Just little glimpses of himself.

He has always helped but when y/n makes videos she finds his hand reaching into frame or he'll put a necklace he's bought for her on her before she starts recording.

One particular instant that he shocked her with was throwing his 81 cap at her while she was recording a TikTok.

"Alright, guys so I'm back home. I'm home alone and I'm going to have a reset. So clean the house and have a little pamper session with me." Y/n grins setting her phone down. "We've been away and the apartment was sort of left in a bit of a mess. So it needs a revive and then I'll give myself a nice night in."

Oscar is out in Woking on the simulator for the day so she's got the day to just spend however she likes.

Y/n sets up her clips and cleaning the floor, doing their washing from travelling so much.

"I'm not saying that I was made for house chores...but honestly till me I'm not a top tier house wife right now." Y/n grins to the camera as she finishes folding laundry. "Ok, time for trophy wife agenda to start."

By the time Oscar arrives home y/n is just stepping into the bath and sighs settling down in the worth of the bath.

"Getting boobs out for the camera." Y/n mumbles before seeing Oscar step up to the open doorway. "Hello, you."

"Are you pursing a new avenue that I don't know about?" Oscar questions making her grin.

"I'm trying to captured me in the bath. But actually since you're home and not dripping wet like me-don't make that face, you perv." Y/n states watching Oscar smirk at the mention of her being dripping wet.

"I'm sorry, go on." Oscar laughs since he knows she was going to ask for a favour.

"Could you get me a glass of water with some ice please?"

"Ok." Oscar nods though he moves forward and leans over kissing her softly. "Can't believe you're naked on camera right now."

"I'm covered!" Y/n giggles earning a disapproving grunt before he moves out the bathroom and she looks at the camera knowing how she'll edit that moment later.

Oscar appears with a wine glass with water and ice in it knowing that y/n likes to use wine glasses for any drink she wants because it's "boujee" that way.

"Awww...thank you, baby." Y/n grins before watching him sigh and sit on the floor still out of frame of her phone but still there. "Are you staying?"

"I want to join you but you're recording so I'll just sit here."

"No...stop the recording, it's for a TikTok anyway. I've definitely got enough footage for the video." Y/n smiles making him get up and stop the recording. Putting her phone down on the side before he pulls off his own clothes and climbs in behind her. "How was your day?"

"It was good, missed you."

"You always say that." Y/n laughs before she's pulled to lead back against as much as possible. "I missed you too...cleaned the house and I got all our clothes clean and dry."

"Productive day and now you're ending it relaxing and winding down?"

"Yeah, feels like the only right way to end the day."

Later while editing, y/n does her usual technique of including Oscar but not enough for him to really be in it, just him handing her the wine glass and his feet when they end the day watching Monsters Inc.

Y/n smiles posing for a video in the mirror for Oscar's hands to come into frame, placing his helmet on top of her head and his laugh to be captured just before she stops recording.

"I'm trying to get my outfit on video, you pest." Y/n laughs then sighing. "I'm uploading that though."

"Do it." Oscar grins placing his helmet down and pulling her into a kiss. "Mmm...if we were anywhere else."

"Behave." Y/n laughs then clearing her throat while Oscar seems to have his mind stuck in his own thoughts of what he'd do if they were anywhere else. "You need to get ready for practice, get changed."

"Mmm." Oscar grunts finally releasing her with a small smile while she sits down and posts the video.

It takes a matter of minutes for DMs to come in with followers and fans saying they wish y/n and Oscar posted together but this is really the extend of it. Hell, they've even appeared on Lando's photography account more than they've appeared on each other's.

Y/n thinks the only evidence of her in Oscar's posts is her shoes and maybe a few strands of hair.

"Can you imagine the reaction of if we post together one day?" Y/n smiles as she leans back watching Oscar change and wondering what the reaction would be if she posted a video of him changing. Obviously nothing too explicit. But still the reactions would be feral.

"Maybe our wedding. Just one photo of us from the back." Oscar smiles since he quite enjoys creating chaos despite his external chill behaviour. He is always a bit amused by the reactions to just the peaks of him in y/n's posts. Fans practically drool at the glimpses of the couples dynamic which is otherwise completely unknown to the world.
