i've been running into 'shen yuan is only HIMSELF with sqh' and it baffles me. most of the time shen yuan is just verbally leaving sqh one star reviews on goodreads. that is a very specific mood and no more than 60% of anyone's full identity.

...LISTEN. Listen. Of course it's fair to say that SY/SQQ isn't able to fully express his true authentic self for much of the novel due to the role the System places him in! But "Peerless Cucumber" isn't his true authentic self either. It's just the side of himself he expresses most easily around Shang Qinghua. Am I only myself when I post memes on the internet?? Are the people who read my ramblings on tumblr dot com about one specific Chinese novel the only beings alive who truly know me, better than my own mother??

People are complicated! And it's just baffling to me because the side of himself that SQQ shows around SQH REEKS of performative masculinity. Does anyone ACTUALLY think "You don’t push down the righteous empress, are you fucking kidding me? Airplane, hand over the girlfriends, I’ll eat this book raw" is SY being himself?? His "true self" (whatever that is) does bleed through, especially in the way he talks about Binghe, but that's definitely not the self he is actively choosing to present the world.

I like SQQ and SQH's friendship well enough for what it is, but I've never really understood why they get portrayed as having this, like, deep and universe-defining connection. I can see them having fun together and bonding over their shared history, but come on. They're not soulmates. They actually don't even know each other that well. Shang Qinghua was literally the LAST person to figure out that Shen Qingqiu was gay. Throughout the entire novel I barely got the impression that they even liked each other; when Shang Qinghua gets given the option to return home in the extras, the fact that he would never see Shen Qingqiu again doesn't even cross his mind, only Mobei-Jun.

idk. I DO think they're friends and have a certain fondness for each other, especially post-canon, but I just don't buy that it's somehow more special than SQQ's relationship with any of the other characters in the novel.

Handsome Gambler doesn't have another show until Saturday night and so, you dragged your boyfriend out to karaoke night at the local dive with the rest of the band.

He was endearingly grouchy about the outing, mumbling about wanting to spend his free time alone with you, until you'd stolen his Stetson in the middle of your impassioned performance – and yes, performance – of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Fortunate Son and plopped it on your own head.

Then, Rhett had watched you with a jaw that was clenched and eyes that were darkened for another reason entirely.

Yesterday, Bob had convinced everyone to go on a brisk 3 mile hike, which was mislabeled as out-and-back and ended up being a grueling 6 miles.

You may find that it exists on several mostly separate layers of reality:

[The Parable] The game itself, with all of its wacky inhabitants and quirky office adventures*! What are Stanley, the Narrator and the rest of the gang up to? In this tag, you will find all kinds of colorful depictions of what is happening inside the Parable.

*bloody murder, deceit and existential crises, but all in good fun.

[The Pre-Parable] Equally quirky and sitcom-esque, this is the office as it was, supposedly, before the Narrator deleted everyone. A happy bunch of employees who may or may not be under a subtle case of mind control. Contrary to what it sounds like, this is not set in the past - rather, it's yet another timeline playing out exclusively in the back of the Narrator's mind. Or is it?

[Post-Parable] Error: The Stanley Parable cannot end.

[Lore] Lore's corner may be a little on the visually bland side, but at least it knows what the hell is actually going on. Like, actually-actually. None of that dangerous half knowledge all the other guys keep spawning. Lore is our very local Wikipedia in here. It's 100% objective and doesn't hold grudges toward anyone whatsoever.

[Ask the Crew] All of these layers do their own thing here and there. All of them can be reached out to. Feel free to [send a question] or two. There's only one catch: While you can address anyone you like, there's always a chance that someone else will answer instead.

And remember that the Parable is a very unstable construct bound to its purpose - digging too deep might well cause a restart… or at the very least leave us with more questions than answers on either side.

It should be easy to get a hold of Lore, at least: Long questions tend to overwhelm it and simple PROMPTs are prefered. Literally. Simply send "PROMPT:" and a one or two word topic of your choice. (Just going "Hey Lore" is fine, too, I'm sure it can deal.)

Raihan suspects you might actually have beef with the streamer, but whenever he asks you, you cackle like it's the funniest thing in the world. He doesn't understand it at all, so he gives up, and just enjoys the streams on his own time, alone with his Pokémon, watching them game and wondering who they are that made you so disinterested in them

You, on the other hand, are having a blast. Raihan doesn't know anything, so you have such power over him during your streams. You know what he likes about your streams, so you can do things you know he'll enjoy, or things you know will make him outraged. It's so much fun, since you know his tag, and can see him ranting at you in the chat. You moderators, also in on it, lose it every time for you, since you have to keep some face

But all good things come to an eventual end. You invite Raihan over during one of your streams (which he's actually reluctant to miss since there was rumors it was gonna be a face reveal) but you agree to let him watch it as you do stuff with him in the room. He sits on your bed and you're at your desk with your set up. He's so focused on the screen he doesn't realize that you've put on a mask and started gaming and commentating. Then he sees you pull the mask off on screen

There's a lot of saved gifs and videos of Raihan storming over and shouting at you about you being the streamer he's be watching for so long. He's not mad, but he is so offended that you never told him until now. It's so funny, and it trends for months. Raihan is huffy about it for just as long, but he gets over it to be excited about joining you

The two of your stream together when he's not busy, with him as another commentator as you play. He's funny enough and you two bounce off one another enough that it works fine. Your chat loves it, and you've got a new influx of Raihan fans that are eager to see him react to the games you play. How exciting!

Hi everyone! Time for a new sticky post. Here are some important, high-level things to note about me:

I am mostly inactive on Tumblr. I have uninstalled the Tumblr mobile app and use a siteblocker to limit how much time I spend on here. I do try to respond to personal messages and asks, but I'm pretty unreliable about everything else -- I mainly only use this blog for self-promo, sorry. See the bottom of this post for other places to find me.

Fandoms: Very many and change unpredictably. Star Trek is the main one at the moment, but I like various JRPGs (Mana, FF, KH, Bravely Default). Soulcalibur and ReBoot are some fandoms I find interesting and dabble in on Tumblr.

I am a proshipper. Not in the sense that I wade into fandom discourse (as I don't like it and so try to avoid it entirely) but that my opinions on fiction and fictional ships 100% aligns with the proshipper position and I avoid antis and people with anti opinions like the plague. More on what I mean by these terms below as there has been a lot of obfuscation (often purposeful) regarding these terms.

Inactivity on Tumblr:

I have tried to make changes to make Tumblr more usable for me, but I still don't really have a healthy relationship to the site and still find it socially isolating, especially as a venue for artists who post art. I do respond to messages and asks, and I try to reply to replies and tags as well (sometimes they fall by the wayside, sorry...), and I reblog once in a blue moon, but I mainly use Tumblr for self-promo nowadays. Also, I don't really like talking about my personal life out in the open, so if you want personal updates on my life, I'm much more active on Dreamwidth, which has better privacy controls than Tumblr.

I tend to complain about Tumblr (while continuing to use the site) so much that I have a tag for it (#complaining about tumblr on tumblr). If that kind of negativity bothers you, you may want to unfollow me or filter that tag.

Proship? Anti?

Most of the time, you can go through fandom without ever running into the proship/anti debate, and this has pretty much been my experience in my JRPG fandoms (Final Fantasy, the Mana series, Bravely Default, etc.). I have unfortunately not really had this experience in Star Trek fandom, sometimes being blindsided by people who seem chill in public then reveal themselves to have kind of unhinged views of fiction and immoral ships in private, so I have decided to just start proactively identifying as proship to ward those people away and will now only join Discord servers of people whom I know are not antis, or which have an explicitly proship moderation line.

Since it is often unclear what people mean by "anti" and "proship," I'll provide my own definition to make it clear what I'm talking about here.

Antis are people who oppose certain ships and the existence of certain types of fictional content because those ships/stories are immoral. While there is quite a bit of variety in where antis draw their moral lines, some common types ships/content that antis view immoral include incest, underage, rape/noncon, power differential, age gaps, etc. as well as being fans of dark (e.g. abusive, genocidal, villainous, etc.) characters, especially if this fannishness has a romantic/sexual attraction sort of element. The general anti approach to fannishness and fiction is to treat people who draw/write/consume fiction featuring these elements and themes as perpetuating harm (sometimes serious harm) through their fictional tastes. Such harm includes normalizing/endorsing/excusing abuse/rape, and grooming or normalizing/promoting pedophilia.

These are pretty weighty accusations, and needless to say, believing that (a) you can tell whether someone is an abuser/pedophile/groomer/etc. based solely on their fictional output or consumption (including what characters/ships they like), and therefore (b) your fandom is filled with literal abusers/pedophiles/groomers/etc. operating completely out in the open, led to people sending death threats, organizing campaigns to chase these "predators" out of fandom, and otherwise raising the cost of people existing in fandom while being a fan of "problematic" ships, whether through a private or public harassment campaign, by doxxing people, sending messages to their employer, etc. etc.

The proship stance/proshippers arose as a reaction to this harassing behavior of antis to basically establish an alternate approach to fandom that allows people to ship whatever relationships they like and which recognizes that fiction and reality do not map one-to-one, and which believes that treating fiction as if it is entirely equivalent to reality, treating fictional characters exactly how you would treat a real-life person, policing the immorality of fiction, etc. tends to lead to unhinged behavior like this (doxxing, harassment, etc.).

There was a very strong backlash to the anti movement and the anti approach to fandom has largely been discredited at this point by being portrayed as "fans taking fandom way too seriously," which is in some sense, accurate. But I don't think that this means that antis and their approach to fiction is entirely gone, just that they are merely more quiet/underground/cryptic about their anti positions. Also, I am a bit unusual in that I don't think that it was only the behavior that was wrong (doxxing, harassment, death threats, etc.), although it certainly was very wrong! But I also think that behavior was the natural consequence of a set of beliefs that generally equates fiction and reality; that is uncomfortable with the eroticization of the dark, immoral, and taboo; and that views the "point" or "main activity" of fandom and fannishness as being to write/consume/love "good" ships/content only. So long as people possess that particular approach to fiction, they are (in my mind) an anti at heart and their approach to fandom is probably antithetical to my own.

I take an approach to fiction that includes:

A recognition that there are plenty of reasons to want to write about certain characters having sex (even titillating, pornographic sex) that aren't "I am literally attracted to the characters and would still be attracted to the same characters if they were real."

Not harassing creators or other fans over shipping or creative output.

The view that "thoughtcrime" is not a legitimate concept.

Being against the idea that enjoyment of art can lead to moral contamination through association.

Art is not (and cannot be) the same thing to everyone. From "I couldn't enjoy this art for moral reasons," it is incorrect to conclude that, "If people enjoyed this art, that must mean they are immoral."

Just being chill about fandom, fans, and creators -- having a sense of perspective that fandom is a minor part of life and a minor part of pop culture, that fandom is a hobby filled with amateur, self-published creators who are learning their craft as they go, and often using fiction and art to explore their own sexuality.

I find this write-up to be a good outlining of the anti vs. proship debate and how antis tend to behave in fandom. People often also classify the anti phenomenon and approach to fiction as a kind of "purity culture" derived from an evangelical Christian upbringing (which views bad media to have a corrupting influence and the goal of reading/fictional consumption is to read "good" things only), but with the Christian social mores rejected and swapped out for non-Christian secular social justice values (consent, diversity and humanizing/"good" representation, etc.), and this seems to me a plausible theory and is largely how I understand the anti phenomenon as well.

Also, very tenuously related to anti/proship stuff, but I am generally someone with low tolerance for character/ship bashing, and for "I ship this problematic ship in the RIGHT way while other people ship it WRONG" type posting, and generally for making snide comments about other people's fic/art in public. Don't get me wrong -- I love a good rant about fandom, even a good public rant if it's not my fandom and I can eat some popcorn as I read. I have ships I can't stand and am happy to rant about them at the drop of a feather. But sometimes you have to pick the right audience for a rant, y'know?

Anyway, I generally try not to wade into fandom discourse (this is a self-imposed ban as I know if I let myself post about it, it will consume my brain), but I don't want my overall silence on this topic to be taken as neutrality or indifference in the whole anti/proship debate.

Oh yes, and if it wasn't apparent already, I am a very tl;dr person.

Hi, to the previous anon who was talking about Loumand shippers and how shocked they will be when season 2 comes around: how about we let show fans experience the story at their own pace just like book readers did.

The story is structured that way on purpose (but mostly because Annie decided to retcon a lot of IWTV when she wrote TVL nine years later).

It makes sense to ship Loumand given where the show is at currently. When revelations happen next season, fans will probably readjust their takes, but all in due time.

What you are doing is akin to me going up to someone watching season 1 of Game of Thrones and being like, hey by the way, all the Starks die so you shouldn't root for them, oh, and Sansa's new crush Joffrey turns out to be an evil prick and he also dies, poisoned at his own wedding and Jon snow is a Targaryen.

Why??

I understand that the books have been out for decades and spoiler warnings are no longer in order, but why don't we just let new fans experience the story the way it was meant to be experienced, without jumping in to rain on their parade and hounding them about how their opinions on certain characters are wrong based on what happens in later books.

Sorry for the long rant mod, but I'm so tired of these silly shipping wars that people keep trying to start over nothing.

Ranting is fine, but I have had anons on this blog, yelling at me about Loumand... and this blog is clearly labeled as based on the books, my personal one, and not spoiler free.

Do not get me wrong, I get your point but...

That anon coming here and theorizing about how shocked the Loumand shippers will be... is not that.

They are not out there souring the experience for the shippers that think that. They are not out there, trying to convert them. They sent an anon ask to MY blog, which is labeled as pointed out above in my bio.

If someone comes to my blog and asks me things I will not lie to them just because the show has not laid out all the cards yet. I have had asks of Loumand shippers (polite, inquisitive asks) and I gently explained what they asked about, and if I notice they know not even the basics? I try to not spoil too much. Just had one of those earlier. But will I twist the story to their (at this point of course flawed) expectations? No.

All the first time watchers can experience the show as they want - but going to a book-based watcher, and in a way demanding that they pay into the tale that is spoon fed? That's something else.

When I was watching GoT (since you brought this up), I watched the first season, and then, in the hiatus, got the books. When I got to the red wedding I literally threw that book into a corner and told my partner I am pissed, I couldn't tell them why, and told them not to ask.

And they didn't.

Because they knew that asking me would spoil them. They also knew by my reaction that there was shit incoming :)

Sorry I have to rant, I just saw post on reddit about how Gege hates his main trio and has completely destroyed them(I'm paraphrasing) and I get it everyone has their own opinions and they can complain etc etc but the whole thing was so dumb!😭 Literally stupid reasons only because they have made so many assumptions about how the story would/should go. These last two chapters have caused such a mayhem in the fandom. People are impatient, quick to make predictions, and get upset when they things don't happen their way. And that's one thing I really don't understand and absolutely hate, how fans of a media think that they know how the story should go better than the creator itself, especially if it's something like a manga which is released on a chapter by chapter basis. Only two chapters have been out! There is more to come! Don't be hasty to judge and please have some patience! Hell! even the shippers are mad I don't know if you ship fushiita, sukuita or sukufushi but it's really chaotic right now. Fans seem to think Yuuji's only purpose was being a vessel(which is a pretty gross way to think about him in my opinion) and now he's useless. It is quite a shame that Kenjaku is so unpopular. Honestly don't know why? They have the looks, the smarts, the connection to the main character (although somehow that often gets overlooked beyond the milf jokes), they drive the entire plot and have an entertaining personality. But most of the time people don't even notice that. They're just Geto 2.0.... Or a grumpy conservative old man. No idea where that characterization came from or why it's so prevalent, but especially in fanfics I see it a lot.

Yuuji is very popular, but he's often turned into Pink Naruto, despite them being very different besides some standard shonen tropes. Naruto without Kurama is unthinkable (well until Boruto happened, but that was after Naruto's main development was already over), so the same must apply to Yuuji, right? If Yuuji doesn't have Sukuna, what's the point?

Also, I don't know what it is with this fandom and going off the rails every break week. Like clockwork the "Yuuta is the real mc because he stronk and his laser beam go pew" take comes back every time and people make up the wildest stuff. I'm surprised by how many genuinely think Yuuji is dead dead. Done. Story over I guess. Megumi hasn't gotten any points, so that's clearly not the case yet. If not, he obviously has to throw around some Infinity-level technique to "prove" he's the mc. They also already see Hana at the bottom of Megumi-Sukuna's stomach I guess and/or Yuuji as Angel's new host. Somehow...how would she even get to him so fast? And sure, switch one manipulative 1000 yo sorcerer for another...what a fun and unique concept. At this point I'm more looking forward to the next leaks because it will give people something meaningful to talk about than the story (not true, I really want to know what happens next, but these takes are very annoying).

I haven't heard that Gege hates the main trio before, but I certainly see it paraded around a lot in regards to Yuuji, even though Gege clearly says in the fanbook that that comment was simply about how he is hard to write and they want to make sure to do him justice. Of course an author can get a bit exasperated, but that doesn't mean they hate the character. If that was the case, Gege wouldn't put this much thought into Yuuji.

In regards to the trio, with how jjk works and everything that's been happening, there was no way they would stay together (assuming that's what people take issue with). It's basically a tradition. Sashisu, Nanami & Haibara, Maki's group, the Kyoto gang, they all got separated, some even died. Honestly, it would be pretty unrealistic for the Tokyo trio to stay together. And as you said, things just started to pick up, much can happen. Megumi is probably gonna resurface for at least a little bit before he dies - or not who knows. Nobara's situation is a bit iffy, but she was never as important as Megumi or Maki so eh. If she comes back, I need her to be properly integrated into the story. She has no connection to the current plot, any of the main villains or adds to the lore. Her coming back with some new strong technique would be nice, but what's her function gonna be besides moral support for Yuuji and killing some less important enemies? So far I don't feel like she needs to come back for parts of the plot to progress. If she doesn't, it wouldn't be a huge loss. Therefore, if it happens, I need some character exploration for her. I still think it would be neat if her grandma somehow shows up and does...idk something, but she sounds awesome (knew from the start not to trust Jujutsu Tech, best woman) I want to know more about her.

I don't really ship any combination of Yuuji-Sukuna-Megumi, so I don't know what happened on their side. Fanartists have put out some very dramatic, traumatic and bloody ItaFushi art recently, which I appreciate, but that's all I know. After ch 212 I got the impression shippers liked the new development for the angst. Didn't know that changed, but I'm really not that in touch with that side of the fandom. Either way, Yuuji not being a vessel anymore sounds more like it would be beneficial for them (separate bodies and all) unless you're really into the possession trope.

I spoiled the game for myself on purpose (I'm the type of person who doesn't get affected by spoilers too bad, I like knowing what's happening in advance) and it still kicked my ass lol.

As for your question about my oc, Kanan's little getaway or "happy place" is their outpost on Eridani II. I'm a fan of the Halo games as well, and in that universe, Eridani II is the planet Reach, so I had to choose it. Kanan is an Old Earth buff, so they probably chose Eridani II for that same reason (if we want to headcanon that Halo is a game in this universe lol). Once the creation kit is out and we get some really good outpost mods, I'm going to make it far more cozy than industrial feeling. But for now, Kanan's got a hexagonal hab there with a few offshoots for various things, like a bedroom and a hydroponics lab for Sarah. There's a watchtower for keeping an eye out for enemies, and a few resource collectors as well.

Outside of Eridani II, Kanan also finds their ship to be the next best thing when it comes to a "happy place."

This is the Gemini, Kanan's baby and prized possession. (It is modded for the sake of having some extra engines and not having to worry about landing gear.) It's named as such after the Gemini constellation, its twin wings, and because Kanan's astrology sign just happens to be Gemini.

It is outfitted to fit up to eight crewmembers and includes a control room, several living spaces, and a workshop. Kanan's quarters are fitted right behind the cockpit (Kanan doesn't mind how small the cot is. No matter how often Sarah complains that dear, the damn bed is too small for both of us, Kanan doesn't mind because it is home). They often bring along the Constellation Four, along with Heller and Lin, and sometimes Kanan's adoring fan, Adrien.

And while Kanan does own property in both Akila City and New Atlantis, their ship and the outpost on Eridani II are Kanan's true homes.

Ok since hockey has slowed down a bit, im gonna properly listen to The*Russ*an*Five by Ke*th Gave all in one go and pick it apart like i do. Some notes on the bias - this book is interesting because its a primary source, but the author is uhhh.....pro america to put it nicely. Im not exactly a fan of the united states of america, i think thats pretty obvious from my blog - my personal point of no return was in high school: learning about the imperialist policies and interference in south america and the sheer hypocrisy of how my country does one thing and then will condemn another country for doing what amounts to the exact same thing. The writer of this book, however, definitely falls under the category of america stan. :/ i think he tries to frame it like its because he was an active agent during the cold war, and ok sure.

BUT my own grandfather was at the center of the space race during the apollo 11 era - im looking at the medallion he received sitting on my desk as i write. And from everything i remember, whenever we would go to the museum of flight and grandpa would wander around commenting on this or that, he spoke with the same admiration for the advancements russia was making during that time as the stuff he worked on himself. And i think there's something to be said that without the political competition and nonsense, the united states as a whole would never funded the space race like they did, and grandpa might never have gotten his rocket to the moon. And yet there's also something to be said about how so much money was being poured into going to the moon, that other areas of public life were being neglected. - lovecraft country makes this arguement heavily, so does hidden figures. My grandfather was working in a tiny integrated subsection of alabama (with very FEW black coworkers - one of whom i met), on a project intended to showcase the prestige of american ingenuity to the world, at a time when segregation and racism marked our country's history horrifically and caused countless deaths that history would prefer to forget. But russia is the enemy we are supposed to hate.

What im saying is there is nuance to everything. And this book has fucking NONE of it lol.

Hey same anon here. So... no offence but do you think people who ship something slightly controversial are going to just not interact with the rest of the fandom at all? I'm sure you're set in believing it's a bad ship but I really don't think everyone who ships it is a Bad Person on principle. Like them putting shipping in a separate blog with a similar url to their main is probably not them being secretive to get around dni's. Because this just in, anyone can get around dni's by ignoring them...

Shippers of controversial ships keep things separate from their main account usually to avoid subjecting people who don't want to see something to that thing, and to avoid getting hate/being called out, which is what you're doing....

Also, I don't think everyone who ships one lesbian cousin inc*st ship is inherently a proshipper... Most fans of the ship are just regular splatoon fans who contribute a lot to the fandom. I would know, a lot of people in the notes on your post have supported posts from an explicitly aohota blog

Also respectfully, I guess you want to warn people of someone shipping it but I think people can make that judgement call on their own... second um... incest shippers ARE proship by definition, because it means pro- ships that involve incest or pedophilia or both. there are probably other things that fall under that definition but those are the two big ones, so im sorry to say that is literally what it means

the point of a dni is that you enforce it by blocking people. there's actually been a history of people making blogs like that for the purpose of evading blocks- the main example i can think of is terfs making innocent-seeming main blogs with the express purpose of infiltrating trans-positive communities who would otherwise block them on sight. the fact that people in the notes have interacted with callie/marie shippers is exactly what i was trying to alleviate with that post, because the tags are obscure enough that a lot of people may not know what it means & interact unknowingly.

do i think everyone who ships problematic content is a "bad person"...? no, not really. they're often perfectly nice and kind and all that. but do i think they should keep to themselves and stay out of the larger splatoon community, besides others who are pro- or neutral to these kinds of ships? well... that WOULD be pretty unreasonable to ask, wouldn't it? but the thing is... someone being proship puts all those interactions into a different light. i shouldn't have to worry, if i make a post about callie and marie, that someone is going to interpret it sexually. i shouldn't have to worry if i make a post about one of them individually that someone is going to take it and apply it to their romantic/sexual dynamic of the two. it's something that makes me extremely uncomfortable, and it's a boundary i can only enforce by blocking (since as you said people can simply ignore dnis.)

which brings me to my last point... y'all have your space, which I unthinkingly put hate in and for that i'm genuinely sorry, but we have our own boundaries which we can ONLY enforce via dnis and/or blocking. the only thing we can really do to keep our space our own is to block, both the tags and the people that post in them, and that's all i told people to do; obviously i can't actively force anyone to block people, that's just my suggestion to keep them from unknowingly interacting bc other posts from people will show up even if they have the tag filtered.

i called out that particular person in the tags because they stood out to me, with the experience i'd had with the two blogs; also because i couldn't really name other active members of the community, seeing as i have nearly everyone there blocked already. my intention is to spread awareness, not to incite harassment, and if they're getting harassed (or if you'd like to avoid that possibility) i can delete those tags, likely instead putting them as part of a larger blocklist rather than focusing on one person. but again, that one person stood out to me and i wanted to prevent others from having the same experience.
