broke down: A Safe Place to Land one-shot - Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x nurse!reader

Summary: 2.5k words. One-shot in the A Safe Place to Land universe. y/n's car breaks down and Bradley is determined to make sure she's okay. (time line stuff: ch. 1 takes place in september 2019, ch. 5 is set in december of 2019, and this one-shot occurs in april of 2022.)

Shit. y/n muttered under her breath as she pulled her car off to the side of the road. Two warning lights lit up on the dashboard and a disconcerting noise started echoing from underneath the hood before she brought the vehicle to a stop. Based on the thin smoke rising from the crevice between the body of the car and its hood, y/n had a feeling she wasn’t going to make it the final stretch of her drive.

It had already been such a long day and y/n was really, really looking forward to seeing her fiancé and downing a cold beer or two. Or three. With a heavy sigh, she stepped out of her usually trustworthy car and popped the hot-to-the-touch hood. Smoke clouded her vision and she coughed–this was definitely an issue she couldn’t resolve by herself.

After dialing roadside assistance, y/n called Bradley. The phone hadn’t even rung twice before he picked up, his warm hello being slightly muffled by the lively crowd in The Hard Deck.

“Hey Roos,” y/n sighed. She tried to hide the exhaustion in her tone, but Rooster picked up on it immediately.

“What’s wrong, baby?” Dammit. This man could read her like a damn book. The aviator furrowed his brow and sat up straight in the chair he’d been occupying. The rest of the squad was bordering on boisterous after the several drinks they’d downed and were more focused on an intense game of nine-ball. y/n rubbed her temple and thought about how to best tell him and avoid him freaking out. She loved him to the ends of the earth, but he was a worrier.

“I’m fine! It’s nothing, really…” she trailed off. Her frustration and emotions got the best of her, so it all spilled out at once. “Actually, my car broke down so I called for a tow truck and I’m gonna be late meeting up with you guys at the Hard Deck so I’ll probably just head home after this because I’m so tired and-” Rooster’s eyes widened at the jumble of words y/n rushed out.

“Where are you?” Bradley cut her off before she could work herself up anymore. y/n could hear movement in the background and she instantly felt guilty. The last thing she wanted to do was interrupt him while he was having a well-deserved night out with his friends.

“It doesn’t matter. I just wanted to let you know that I probably won’t make it to the bar tonight. This might take a while,” y/n huffed. Her nerves were shot and above all, she just wanted to go home. Sure, a night out with her fiancé and their friends would be nice, but a warm bath and a pint of Ben & Jerry’s would be much nicer.

“y/n. Where. are. you?” Bradley asked slowly, punctuating each word. His voice was low and left no room for argument. y/n had only heard him speak that way a handful of times since she’d known him–all of which were times he thought she might be in trouble.

So she told him her location. She had pulled off on the edge of some backroad she was taking in hopes of it being a shortcut. Instead, she was now thanking her lucky stars that she had barely enough cell reception to call the tow service and Bradley.

Rooster cursed–y/n was alone in the middle of nowhere and it would be dark soon. A dozen scenarios went through his mind at once and none of them were good.

In a few long strides, the aviator crossed the room towards the bar without so much as a goodbye to his friends. He fished enough cash out of his wallet to cover his tab and then some as he flagged down Penny. The worried expression and his rushed movements, while his phone was pinched between his shoulder and ear, had Penny moving cautiously to tend to him, foregoing some of the other customers before him. She’d hardly accepted the cash from his hand before he offered her a tight smile and jogged out of the bar.

“I’m coming to pick you up,” he said with finality. y/n’s brow furrowed and she started pacing alongside her car.

“What? No, Bradley. Stay out with your friends. Have a good time, you deserve to let loose. I’ll see you at home, okay?” If he weren’t so focused on getting to y/n, he might’ve noticed the warmth that spread through his chest anytime his fiancée mentioned their shared home.

Rooster was typically far more gentle with the Bronco than he was right then, but that was hardly a thought in his mind when he pulled his keys out and shoved them into the door lock. y/n inwardly groaned as she heard the tell-tale sign of his old car’s door slamming and the engine turning over.

“Nope. No. I’m not going to be able to relax or think about anything else until I know you’re okay. I’ll be there in 15 minutes, tops.” He peeled out of the parking lot, pulling onto the main road before he’d even finished his sentence.

y/n blew out a heavy breath and dragged her palm down her face before stopping short. She pulled her phone away from her ear and checked the GPS route she recently had open.

Your location to The Hard Deck Bar – 24 minutes via State Road…

“I am okay. And it’s over a 20 minute drive to where you are,” y/n sighed. She had no doubt that Bradley would be able to beat the estimated time of 24 minutes, but shaving almost 10 minutes off seemed a little outlandish, even for the fighter pilot.

Rather than reminding his fiancée that he routinely flew planes at over 1,000 mph, he simply grunted out “I said what I said” and pressed his foot harder against the gas pedal.

Bradley stayed on the phone with y/n while he drove. Based on the unmistakable sound of the Bronco’s engine revving and cars honking because Rooster had cut them off, it was easy to assume he was breaking a handful of traffic laws.

Otherwise, the call was relatively quiet. Bradley broke the silence every few minutes to ask if y/n was okay–she hummed yes, Roos each time. He asked her if there was anyone lingering around or coming up to her–No, there’s literally no one out here. Her fiancé couldn’t decide if that was a good or bad thing.

y/n huffed in frustration when she tried to unsuccessfully start her car for the umpteenth time. Just as she rested her head on the steering wheel with crestfallen resignation, she caught a set of all too familiar headlights in her rearview mirror. The nurse felt a bittersweet smile creep onto her face. She was happy to see Bradley, she always was, but she couldn’t help the sinking guilty feeling that he cut his night out short because of her. y/n slowly climbed out of the car and really felt the exhaustion hit her this time around. Now that Bradley was here, she didn’t have to keep looking over her shoulder and was able to let her guard down a bit. 

By the time she closed the door behind her, he’d already crossed the distance from the Bronco to her car. Bradley wore a sympathetic smile when eyes met y/n’s. Something about the loving look in his eyes had y/n holding back tears. The aviator wordlessly pulled y/n into his chest and she gladly went along with it, wrapping her arms loosely around his waist.

“I’m sorry, Brad. I didn’t mean to ruin your night,” y/n’s words were muffled by the fabric of his t-shirt. Bradley tutted and brought a hand up to massage her shoulders where he knew she got tense often.

“You don’t need to be sorry, baby. I’m glad you called me,” he pressed a kiss against y/n’s hair before resting his chin atop her head. They stood wrapped in each other's arms for a moment, silently swaying side to side. y/n was still nuzzled against Bradley’s chest when he patted her back before pulling away and moved toward the hood of her car.

Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw knows his plane inside and out. This extended to cars as well. He’s been under the hood of his vintage Ford Bronco more times than he cares to count, so he’s familiar with working on cars, to say the least. Maybe if this whole flying thing didn’t work out, he could be a mechanic.

Rooster waved the remaining smoke away from his face when he popped the hood of the car. He’d hardly been glancing around the various parts before a particular problem caught his eye. He stood back and rested his hands on either hip. There wasn’t much that puzzled him, but it was certainly an interesting sight, he thought as he tilted his head to the side.

“This drive belt is damn near shredded. When was the last time you got your car serviced?” Rooster asked innocently. When y/n blushed and wouldn’t meet his eyes, his face dropped. The aviator rubbed his temple. He had a feeling he wasn’t going to like her answer.

He produced a rag out of seemingly thin air and pulled the engine’s dipstick and wiped it off before checking the oil. He held the dipstick up to catch the remainder of the setting sun’s light and frowned–the oil was definitely below where it should be.

y/n was scratching the back of her neck now, looking increasingly sheepish.

“y/n?” Bradley asked expectantly. He wasn’t being condescending, but y/n felt like she was in trouble.

“Umm… I took her to get serviced not long after Lover came out. I sat in the waiting area and listened to the album like 3 times in a row.” Rooster did some math before his eyes practically bugged out of his head.

“When Lover came ou- baby, that was over two years ago?!” Bradley said incredulously, mouth agape. Before dating y/n, Rooster didn’t know much of anything about Taylor Swift. Eventually, his then-girlfriend started purchasing her own vinyl records and Taylor Swift’s music became regular in the rotation. Whether Bradley liked it or not, he learned some Swiftie lore. And, being the history nerd that he was, he remembered almost all of it. The album release dates had eventually wormed their way into his mind as well.

“I know! I know, but I literally only ever drive to work because we take the Bronco everywhere else so it didn’t matter that much…” y/n raised her hands defensively. Her voice trailed off towards the end; even she knew it was a bad excuse. Rooster slid a hand down his face in exasperation and smoothed out his mustache above his tight-lipped frown.

“Honey, what if you broke down or worse while I was deployed? I-” Rooster sighed. He stopped himself before he went on a tangent that might upset y/n. Nothing was worth arguing over right then so he let the topic rest. Bradley made a mental note to schedule a servicing for her car the following day.

The tow truck y/n called for pulled up just in time to avoid what was heading toward a tense conversation. When the driver approached the pair, he hardly spared Rooster a second glance initially; he was too focused on dragging his eyes across y/n’s body in a way that made her skin crawl. Bradley puffed out his chest and took a step forward, redirecting the man’s attention. The aviator’s movement allowed the remainder of the sun’s dwindling light to sparkle against y/n’s sizable engagement ring. She doubted that was Rooster’s intention, but she smirked nonetheless.

The tow truck driver posed his questions to Bradley. The much taller and tanned man was about to respond when y/n cleared her throat and stepped forward. It was her car, after all.

The driver was surprised. The hint of a grimy grin spread across his face.

“Alright, little lady,” he snickered. Strike one.

y/n took the man’s questions in stride. She knew the answers to most of them; she wasn’t dumb. Just because she procrastinated on her car’s maintenance didn’t mean she was clueless about her vehicle. Rooster was confident that she could handle herself in the conversation, so he hung back with his hand resting on her lower back protectively.

Some of the more unnecessarily specific questions were aimed to trip y/n up–Rooster knew it, and y/n pieced it together pretty quickly. Strike two. Good for y/n, and disappointingly for the sexist tow truck operator, y/n was very good at bullshitting her way to the right answer every time and had an unrivaled poker face.

Rooster smirked, impressed. His little spitfire was doing what she did best–putting men in their place.

The driver eventually huffed in annoyance. He clearly lost their verbal sparring match, so he set out to do his actual job and leave with his tail tucked between his legs. He tuned out the couple as he worked on hooking up the car and lifting it onto the truck bed.

y/n linked her arms behind her fiancé’s neck and grinned up at him. Rooster matched her smile. She was trouble, a force to be reckoned with–and he loved her for it.

“Thank you for saving me,” y/n murmured while her lips ghosted over Bradley’s. She pressed a sweet kiss to his lips, but before he could deepen it, she pulled away and examined him at arm’s length.

"My knight in shining… tacky tourist shirt,” y/n grinned deviously, amused by her own joke. Rooster rolled his eyes, pressing his tongue to his cheek before he retaliated by tickling her side–the exact same spot he’s been targeting since their very first beach date. y/n laughed before pulling him back toward her by his flowered collar for the deep kiss Bradley longed for.

At some point, the tow truck driver had finished up and y/n’s car was secured on the bed. He cleared his throat and shuffled uncomfortably as the couple shamelessly pulled away from their PDA stunt. y/n signed the necessary paperwork before thanking the man–she might be petty and a smart-ass, but she wasn’t an asshole.

Bradley and y/n walked hand-in-hand back towards the Bronco, where he opened the passenger door for her and offered his hand to support her as she stepped up into the lifted vehicle. Once Bradley was sitting in the driver’s seat, he wordlessly handed y/n his phone so she could play music. Somehow, the nurse had talked him into setting up bluetooth of all things in his vintage Bronco. He was well aware that she had him whipped, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

With one hand on the steering wheel and one hand resting on y/n’s thigh, Bradley pulled back onto the road and drove toward their shared house, the Hard Deck long forgotten. The windows were rolled down and soft tunes filled the night air.

“Hey Roos?” y/n spoke, intertwining her fingers with his.

“Yeah, baby?” Rooster hummed, briefly taking his eyes off the road to look at his fiancée.

“What’s a drive belt?”

a/n: fun fact: i learned how to check a car’s oil level when my friends and i were in bum fuck nowhere on a camping trip. pretty sure my dad was v stressed out when i called him and asked me to walk me through it but it definitely fed my ego.

This is big

A good day we are having.

I was going to start with a bright good day, but it’s kind of yucky for me here (overcast, raining, a little cold, not what you would expect towards the end of Spring here), but I do guess it’s a bright day somewhere in the world, so I will go with that.

I know I’m a little late to the party, but what can you do?  We gotta make a living.  So, as much as I was dying to post this morning (cause I did see it ALL pretty much as I started my day), I just couldn’t, not the way I like to, with receipts.

There, I said it.

He kind of surprises us every time.

And I don’t know why we are surprised, because he has been kind of screaming blue murder since 8 November 2017 that JM is HIS (in his own way, in the way he can under the circumstances, and I’ll get into that a little later on), but still, he surprises us every single time.

And K-army, they are going WILD.

And when K-army go wild you know it’s a big one.

So, what did he do this time?  Our JK.

He went and posted on IG.

Wow, awe, nah, not that, lol.

This kind of has a couple of layers to it.

I’ll start at the beginning, which is JK posting a photo of himself from Qatar in his usual new IG layout.

He does this on 26.10.22, at 11:02 KST (all there pics posted were withing the 11:02, a few seconds within each other).

Let’s look at the numbers for that.

Date first:

26 October 2022.

Which happens to be…drum roll…

Exactly mid-way between JM’s birthday (13 October) and the famous 8 November.

13 days following JM’s birthday and 13 days to the 8 November 2022.

I was thinking of doing the whole day counter screenshot and stuff, but honestly, I counted the days with my fingers.  Use your fingers to count them.  Believe me, you’ll get the same results.

Coincidence?

Nope.  Enough with the usage of this word.  It’s just too much.  Especially when we move on to see what else we had here.

So, just in case, you know, the fans lost the plot with his first post.  Just in case they didn’t catch on to the reference not only to the 13 but also to 8 November, he decided he needed to be MUCH clearer.

And how much clearer can you be than actually posting on the hour?

Once again with the 11:08.  You know, like he’s done in the past.

Still think it’s all a coincidence?

I can tell you loud and clear that I don’t.

Neither do K-JKKs.

Now, I know that JM and JK communicate on the private, you know, through some kind of app like Kakao talk or WhatsApp where they can’t be monitored (I’ll leave it at that), and they definitely don’t need to send each other messages through their public IG accounts.

Saying that, I do think this is also a message to JM.

One that says “I love you and I want to scream it from the rooftop.  And knowing that I can’t do that, I’m doing the next best thing.”

People will argue: why would they need that?  If they are a closeted couple why would they want people to know?

And I’d start by saying:  Really?  That’s what you’re arguing?

Let’s talk about straight couples, why don’t we?  Those that don’t have to hide who they are dating, who they love, who they are with.

In EVERY culture – couples like that HAVE to show others they are together.  It’s a “I’m happy I’m in a relationship” thing.  It’s a “keep you hands to yourselves, this one is taken – by me”.  It’s an “I adore this person and he’s all mine”.

And they do it in many ways:

It’s the matchy matchy clothing and accessorizing (in Korean culture).

It’s with jewelry like couple rings, couple necklaces or bracelets, engagement and wedding rings.

It’s with couple selfies and pics and posts.

It’s with PDA, where it’s socially and culturally acceptable.

It’s with just saying it out loud proudly – “we are together, we are a couple, we love each other…”

 

Why would a closeted couple, one that the society they live in does not look positively on their relationship, be any different in the sense of wanting to show, flaunt their love?

But they can’t say it, scream it in words.

And JM and JK are a closeted couple.  They can’t be obvious, well not too obvious, not in a way that a straight couple can (and don’t get me started on their industry either, cause that’s also another issue they have to deal with, one that doesn’t allow a straight couple to show they are together either, re: you know who).

So they find other ways to do it.

They find that going matchy matchy with their clothes and accessories might raise an eyebrow here and there, but they can get away with it.  Bangtan wear each other’s clothes, they all do it, nothing special about those two.  So maybe it’s not enough.  Not a strong enough statement.

JK sucked on JM’s ear for god’s sake, in front of thousands of fans.  It has been paraded by the company in official content ever since.

In that moment, when JK was sucking on JM’s ear, you see just how emotional JM gets.  Cause he knows.  He knows this is JK’s way of screaming to the world that JM is his, that they are more than ‘brothers’ or just friends.

But apparently, it did not make much on an impact, because supposedly, according to the fandom, either there was no actual ear sucking (I guess those fans need glasses or eyes, take your pick), or that’s just something you do with your bro (don’t get me started on that word and JK using it in his birthday message to JM).

JK paraded his hickey from JM.  Clearly ‘brother’ or platonic friends don’t mark each other, right?

 Apparently they do.  This too was not enough. 

Because once again, either it’s a bite (interesting one at that, with no teeth marks but definite hickey bruising), or it’s just a playful bro thing that evidently these fans do with their siblings or platonic friends (ok then, that’s kind of disturbing), or, and I just ‘love’ this one, JM ‘the man’ lending a hand to his bro JK by covering up his girlfriend’s hickey (cause these guys have never heard of makeup and concealer, and NEVER covered up a hickey or two in the past – laughable).

 

 

And you may ask:  Where are you going with this? Get to the fucking point…

So here it is:

I know there are many that are all about:

“This whole numbers thing it’s ridiculous” or “it doesn’t mean anything” or “eh, just a coincidence you delusional people keep riding on”. 

Well, thing is once, twice, even three or four times is a coincidence.  But when it’s more it’s a pattern.  And this is a pattern.  One that means something.  One that is trying to tell us something they can’t say out loud.

Because just like you and I, who love to say we are in a relationship, that we are happily married, or engaged or love our partners, or want to tell the world “that person is off the market, so hands off, they are MINE” – believe me both JM and JK want the exact same thing.  To be able to say that.  Show that. 

Do you remember that interview where RM and V pipe up to the question “who’s the best with the ladies” to say it was JK?  JM’s face?

Or even just now, the after Busan concert live and the “marry me JK” conversation.

Or I heart radio when the fans was screaming “I love you” to JM – JK’s reaction?

They want other to know that their significant other is theirs and definitely off the market. 

But unlike us, they can’t do that.  They can’t say that, scream that.  That would be not stretching that rubber band they keep stretching time and time again.  That would be to outright tear it, and they can’t do that.  Not yet.  Not now.  Not with their solo albums coming up, not with enlistment coming up and not under this current administration.

So they do this.

They do the little things like the matching clothes or accessories.

They do the bigger things like the ear suck and hickey showing off (which once again, they saw just was not enough). 

And they do this.  The numbers.  The playing with the dates.

That is their way.

 

This started out as a post about JK’s wow IG activity and turned into a Ted talk about the meaning of the numbers and why they are indeed a message, a code per say, to those that are willing to listen.

oh man. fanart, if done well and a lot can get me to do almost anything. seeing fanart of Ghost back in November 2022 is what got me into this fandom in the first place.

I'm a bit picky with headcanons but yh. im fully aware a lot of them are just watered down to be vessals for our kinks and affection. At the end of the day. they'er our silly made up blurbos U///U but yh theirs defo gaps in these guys's personalities that we can fill in (which is what we're doing now lol from the short bios we're given)

❣️ Vice Versa - ugh. it’s so good so far. Like an actual masterpiece. I just love that the story + setup is different. It’s abstract without being cheesy and it has me glued to the screen at all times. The cast is superb, Jimmy and Sea are absolutely killing it, also I’m living for all the Bad Buddy references lol. It’s also nice to see ohmnanon again in this different setting and overall it’s just so much better than I anticipated. I hope it stays at this level. Oh and also the cinematography?? And all the color references?? fck me up. 10/10. 

❣️ The Eclipse - I’m just gonna put this on here even though it hasn’t aired yet because how could I not 🥺😩 it looks so good. I know some people disagree but I liked this trailer so much better than the first one. I know it could be misleading but I’m really hoping for a 50/50 balance between the curse- and the love story. But we shall see. Either way I’m so ready for F&K to own my ass for the next 3 months. 11/10 can’t wait. 

👎🏻 Unforgotten Night - I honestly still don’t know if I love it or hate it djgkfdf I wouldn’t say I had high hopes but somehow I had faith that it could maybe be good... I was wrong lol. It’s so bad. I love Ton as Kim, he’s adorable and very likeable, same with Baiboon - but Yoon?? heck. He’s by far the worst pick for this kind of role. You would think he has improved his performance by now after being in so many shows but nah. He’s giving me nothing. However despite all, it is quite entertaining -  just because of how ridiculous it is. So I guess I’m having a good time. But it’s abysmal. 0.5/10.

after the first military announcement for maknae line + nj, i started distancing myself from jm and began to get into another group i used to stan (bc i am weak willed lmao i just always need something to obsess over but admittedly this has helped with softening the blow of jimin leaving, i feel like if he was the only person i stanned rn it would have hurt a lot more) but now i just feel so exhausted bc im noticing some of the same problems within this other fandom that also exist with armys, and ofc that's something to do with shippers lol.

there's this member who i bias in this bg who gets basically almost the same exact treatment as jimin gets from taekookers all because he supposedly threatens the status of the group's most popular ship; he gets accused of being an attention seeker, a bed hopper, of trying to insert himself into the ship, he gets slutshamed and treated like the other woman etc.

ofc this all isn't as big of a thing as it is with jm + taekook simply bc bts' fandom is so so much bigger and bc for the other boygroup, those comments are harder to see if you only speak english (their western fanbase isn't as big as their asian one). despite that, it's just sad to see. i didn't realise how much all the hate towards jimin affected me until i returned to stanning this other group and seeing that same kind of hate being thrown against another person that i love. idrk what the point of this ask is tbh sorry im just tired 😭 stanning these kpop boys shouldn't be this hard lmao

Yeah, but it's true... everyone's the same in all fandoms. There is a certain behavioral pattern in people who are part of fandoms, I mean the ones that are really really involved; and even more so with shippers.

The only other group that I ever liked was one direction, and though my time as a fan was short (like two years), all those things happened as well with larry and their girlfriends. The hate, the conspiracy theories, the "they're sending signals". It was all there.

The difference tho, was that everybody liked larry. It wasn't like the fandom itself hated one of them. It's ironic that BTS are closer friends all with each other than 1Dever was, yet in the 1D fandom there weren't people who hated another member. And the few that existed, they kept quiet mostly, it wasn't a huge thing and they didn't run hate/defamation campaigns against the member they didn't like.

The stans of different members only started fighting each other once they went solo.

Then, last year during November 2022 - January 2023 I watched Big Brother (Argentina) for the first time in my life, and there were a few ships (both straight and gay) that the public liked. The guys from the gay ship both had girlfriends inside the house, like they had sex with them and everything. And I kept seeing the same discourses I see in the fandom lmao. It really was a surreal experience to see people saying the same things the say about celebrities ships, but about real people this time.

I mean, people (shippers) getting angry at their girlfriends, and some even turned to "solo stans" (not with those words) because they thought A was hurting B, so they stopped supporting B. I'm not kidding.

It was even more surreal that the same thing was happening in Big Brother Italy, literally at the same time. They also had two male friends who like, flirted with each other and had a strong friendship and they even kissed too. Though in Italy one of them was actually a gay man out of the closet, and the other had a girlfriend.

It also kind of desensitized me a lot to jikook or BTS ships in general and the skinship. And it also made me realize that there's only so far "cultural lenses" go.. because millions of people were watching the same show everyday, but it was only a few thousands who were like "these two guys are totally gay and in love with each other".

Mind you, they even kissed each other on the mouth and yet nobody (except the shippers) were calling them a couple or saying that it was serious. More than anything because they both already had girlfriends inside of the house.

Well, and this year's season just started this week and I've watched a couple of hours but I'm still not hooked. I'll probably keep watching though because it was really distracting last year, so that'll be my drug of choice lol. There really isn't any other group I like, so I'll settle for watching movies and tv shows and maybe reading.

I cAN TOTALLY EXPLAIN THE FIRST 2 PICS. The first one is exactly from a year ago when my brainrot just started and I was like "well fuck I guess I have a new f/o now". If you ever see or feel familiar about the first art even though you prooooobably never see it,

its because it was an original picture for this redraw a few months AFTER that pic

Also if you notice, the art style for that one is totally different from others and shhh the reason it was like that is because initially I want to draw them in my actual artstyle around that time and I dont want it to follow the same artstyle like in the show. My friend said Utonium kinda reminds them of that guy from clo.udy wi th a ch.ance of meatb.alls and im like "oH SHITTT". There's more drawings of Utonium pre-brainrot era with this kind of artstyle in my folder but I don't think the world is ready for that yet lol

Anyway as I progresses to the 2nd pic, I changed my mind and was like "wait I actually WANT them to look like they're in PPG and not my own artstyle" so I slowly draw both of them to look more like the ppg style if you understand what I mean??? Althoughhhh in the 2nd pic I still want him to look a bit like my own style with my own touch and despite how much I don't like the reboot, I actually like his gray hair on his sideburns??? So if yall remember that phase and followed me from way way in the early days of this blog, I used to draw Utonium with those streaks before I gradually stopped doing that because of.... actually idk why I stopped??? I should totally add the grays back because I love it actually lol but anywayyyyyy the 2nd pic was also around july too me think? So there's probably like a few weeks gap between the actual totally real not clickbait picture of Chloe and Utonium 'together'.

That was how my render looked like for a few months until november (the 3rd pic).

So in the 3rd pic, I discovered this very magical spectacular magnificent function on CSP called t E xt U r e and holy fuck, let me tell you, I feel like I am a changed person. I was never the cringe person with mediocre render like I was, this legit marked a cultural shift in me, I just feel like I've been blessed by god himself. I spammed the fUCK OUTTA THOSE TEXTURES like it was MY BUSINESS. i pAID CSP FOR FULL PRICE I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO USE IT TO ITS FULL CAPABILITIES AND SQUEEZE IT OUT OF ALL IT'S WORTH. Although I must say, my render time after that significantly increases. By standard I used to render around 3 hours? Now this bitch took 6 fuckin hours to completely. It wasn't a daijobu era ngl 😔😔😔

And holy fuck do I have a fuckin field day with it. You think I was a changed man back then? I have ascended, I am now r e b o r n. My friends feared my, my peers stared at me, my teachers are baffled by the amount of brainrot I drew at that time. How am I real?

I wanted to look for ways to cut render time because it was really tiring for me to render with a fuckton of texture layers and I also wanted to emulate my fav artist's render style soooo bad (it was luoman if anyone asked) and I kinda figured out how they did it? Just wanted to chime in to say that I agree fully with all of you on being extremely annoyed at the fact that Swifties have made it canon that Joe cheated with literally 0 fucking evidence and also feeling like they can hold some moral highground for that as if Miss Cherubic Chaos Demon herself hasn't admitted multiple times to cheating on her partners like💀💀 With Getaway Car and illicit affairs I guess you could argue there was still some room for ambiguity but after Bejewled and High Infidelity liiiiiike come on besties reading comprehension is not that hard idk. As of right now, there is literally no information available that could possibly indicate that Joe cheated on her. He might have of course and it just hasn't come out yet, only he/they know. I tbh wouldn't be surprised by that and look I am in no way defending this man bc why would I ever defend a man but come on, the bulk of Swiftdom is expecting her to talk about Joe cheating on her on TTPD and if anything I'm expecting the opposite: her admitting to entangling herself emotionally and perhaps in other ways too with Matty Healy before her and Joe were officially separated.

I do think for various reasons it's more likely that she cheated on him rather than Joe cheating on her, but either way I think that relationship was long dead by the time one or both of them started stepping out. its rlly interesting hearing everyones canon events for what got them here the diversity in peoples reactions to dream or dnf or dteam and parasocialism etc is actually breathtaking. anyway here's mine (with most of the journey as a bonus) that no one asked for. WARNING IT'S LONG:

i was more of a slow burn in that i first became aware of who the hell dream (i think george too?) was during summer 2020 when the maia thing was happening (i think it was trending or something and EVERYONE knew her from prom dress so i was like hey i know her!), though i dont remember all of the details i just remember thinking "ok!" then closing the twitter app. didn't pay it any mind.

later i started to get dteam content on my tiktok fyp from compilations and thought why the hell not and started to watch them on youtube. i found the mc tag video and was HOOKED with the solo dnf challenge videos. fell out of it for a while because online school then came back officially on november 16 when unus annus ended and lmanberg exploded and i needed something else to obsess over to cope with isolation. i dont quite remember when quackity came into the equation but he was THE reason i got into cdnf (and lore too i guess) because he gave us the only pov of the dethronement and that was the first lore stream i watched live. i remember recognizing him from the raids and discords got talent videos and got more into him and dteam at the same time especially as 5/5 became a thing (so you can see why i was hurt really bad when april happened lol)

another part of it was heat waves.. i was pretty opposed to it at first because after dan howell's coming out i thought rpf was inherently invasive to content creators. and to be fair there was a lot of freaknasty shit written about phan that made them uncomfortable! but since i have no morals i caved and read it anyway under the justification that everyone kept saying this is really good characterization and writing so why not! (up until chapter 3 was released at this time) i finally decided to register for an ao3 account along with thousands of other people (before the waiting list got really long lol) and read it and well. here we are

the parasocial drontroversy was happening around this time too and i sort of talked about it but that indirectly caused me to lurk for the entirety of 2021 mostly on tiktok and twitter and twitch (i knowwww. it was pretty bad). part of that too was because of the drontoversies so i avoided engaging directly until i knew for sure that dream wasn't the evilest man ever. i was really cautious about him because i had this assumption of his character (white cis het (lol) man raised republican) but after seeing his growth and learning a bit about him i grew out of my initial timidity and embraced the stan label (in secret). i was also a big youtube viewer too i loved the animations people made and still do! a xanyleaves manhunt animation also convinced me to watch manhunt and dteam (any object show fans here lol?) i got sick of doing that and not dumping everything in my brain somewhere my irls wouldn't see so i lurked here for a while and officially joined in january 2022. it was pretty fun! but then after a while you could tell the wheels were falling off the wagon!

i left for probably a month following the drituation drop (still lurking for updates etc) but then decided to come back with a different account because 1. i decided for myself that it was ultimately a nothing burger after seeking out evidence when i was ready 2. i was sick of using that blog as a sideblog and this is all i blog about anyway 3. i was lonely :( i missed the few mutuals i had and seeing life on the dash. i also just wanted to help build something healthier from before. i think the christmas streams were the first time i felt READY and sure to actively come back and my time here here has been really wonderful for the most part. this is MY toxic radioactive echo chamber dumpster and i love being a bacteria living in it.

#tldr; slow burn. timid pet that doesnt trust people gets exposure therapy over time. i was always gonna end up here anyway no matter the #avenue i took LOL #only read if youre curious about my convoluted lore haha

I don't know why but I feel so sad today. I feel like everyone is moving around me but I just cannot reach out. I stand stone faced, just listening to all the berating and yelling. It just keeps going and i feel like just a body. I don't know what to do. Some days it just feels like I cannot feel anything and I am just, well, there.

I'm too scared to write down how I feel because God will get mad at me for complaining. I just want to be able to release the emotions in a way that isn't negative and move on. My mom just keeps talking at me and i feel like i'm sinking deeper and deeper into myself when she does.

I pray so much, all the time. I beg, cry, and sending longing looks to the sky. I say new words and phrases, expose more vulnerability. I bleed and I bleed. I don't know what to do. I wish I could stop feeling this way. I just want to stop hurting, and to actually feel something happy.

I'm not looking for a transaction, i just want to feel happy.

I feel like a phony. Someone told me they could see I loved God very much. How could I when all I do is make mistakes? I can't stop making mistakes. I can't stop paying for my mistakes. I'm trying so hard, it feels so unfair when I see others live such happy lives without even trying and I'm sobbing and praying every night for that.

I know God has blessed me indefinitely, but I wish this disease would go away. I want to stop feeling sad. I want my mom to stop yelling all the time at me. I want to exist without every move costing me an arm and a leg. I want to be able to make mistakes and not be reprimanded so surmount-ably. I want to stop feeling so sad.

I want my Mom to stop reading through my diary. I want my privacy to stop being invaded. I want to stop feeling like my diary entries will cost me lots of happiness. I am just venting but it feels like I'm punished after for feeling sad. When will this sadness stop taking me as its victim.

There is a great sadness that exists and lives inside my chest. I don't know how to get it out and I wish it didn't choose me as its final resting place.

I want to be happy so so so bad. I will smile as much as it takes.

There is so much going on in my head and i want this weariness to end.

I know my mom means well. She took 12 units while raising me and two other kids. I should be more grateful. But sometimes I am just so tired of all the criticism. I just want to cry without it costing me. I need something.

Meanwhile, with love, I am so tired. I feel like I am not deserving of being loved by someone, so the thought makes me so tired. I don't feel like I deserve to try, but I just want to be happy. This has happened so many times. I have so much baggage I am scared no one will love me at all. or that they could. I'm scared someone will get tired of all my scheming, all my anger, all my hurt, and just leave. I'm scared I could never find someone who likes me for me, who sees me for me and still does not want to leave. Life will somehow again turn of its lights and lose all meanings. This time for real.

I'm looking at a few things I did in highschool. Music I enjoyed, hobbies I had, activities I did. Man was I sad. I don't think I ever want to be that sad again. That kind of hurt is not something you'd survive for the second time

I have this wild thought of comparison of my life to a tv show with seasons. I'm on the college seasons right now, especially the second year. It's starting to get long and I have a fan base but dwindling viewers. LOL.

Idk, I want to end off on a joyful note. Hopefully, and I say that with the earnest of intentions, I will be happier.

Hopefully Joe and I will be dating... LOL, my parents will be nicer, i get all a's, and I'm much happier with friends..

I actually did the worst on my open book popgen exam lol (not that it mattered anyway).  I’m in a good place grade-wise, I think.

You know, all of these programs conveniently leave out the fact that not only do you have to submit a personal statement, but you have to also write four, five, six other little essays on random (they’re related) topics.  Like,,, HUH.  I just thought I’d pop in with a quick “boy howdy I wanna be a scientist, a woman in stem, a personified bunsen burner” and then be met with a round of applause and a stipend but apparently that’s not enough these days.

Also some of my apps are asking about my sexuality and that was definitely not a thing four years ago and like idk I know some ace folk feel like they fit in the queer community and that’s totally fine and I love my little hahaheehee’s on acetok but putting it in writing (yes, I recognize the irony considering the nature of this blog)???  FIRST of all I don’t know if this is real or if it’s purity culture-induced guilt.  I could get married and it all falls away and suddenly you’ve got a sexual being on your hands (one in need of therapy tho bc I’ve heard it’s a difficult switch to make).  SECOND what if it changes.  I dunno I just.. there is no truly permanent sense of self and.. ugh.  I mean I could say I’m aro/ace and they’ll be like “wow so she won’t be distracted by boys she’s a safe bet” but what they don’t know is that I’ll be distracted by everything else.

On a lighter note, listen.  I get it, LMM maybe wasn’t at all what we were expecting from Hermes.  I love the jokes, I think they’re silly because, ultimately, that man is a dork.  A theatre kid (who makes pretty bangin music ngl).  All adult theatre kids deserve ridicule.  No exceptions.  Obviously I want him to do well because I want the show to be good and I trust Rick.  I love the silly jokes, but I feel a little bad bc we’re circling back to that time on tiktok when Hamilton had just been released on D+ and everyone was watching it and making fun of the guy even though he wasn’t doing anything except loving being on stage.

And, breaking news, it turns out that I may not get into that education class after all which kind of sucks.  I have to wait until the start of next semester to see if the section has seats available at which point anyone will be able to register.  Until then, I’m registered for a greek art class in its place.

Lastly, it’s surprisingly easy to slip into supporting eugenics and I blame this on the fact that geneticists find eugenics to be so abhorrent and such an uncomfortable part of the discipline’s history that it’s rarely actually discussed or taught.  And this is the same problem with minimizing slavery or the holocaust or the treatment of indigenous Americans.  Those who do not learn and critically consider history are doomed to repeat it.  Scientists have an ethical responsibility to go beyond providing data.  They must nip misinterpretations in the bud by addressing the context of their work.  We read an article (more like a saga of articles, it was the scientific equivalent of a fight over twitter) in popgen which got me completely wired by the way that it used eugenics rhetoric without addressing that issue explicitly, and that feels so much more irresponsible than saying your a eugenics advocate outright (my prof had to assure me that the author was not, in fact, a eugenics guy).  I just... science doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and we live in an age where information is readily available to any person at any time.  Scientists need to keep that in mind and consider the social ramifications of their work, especially if it relates to humans.  Neutral science does not exist!!  We’re all influenced by the context in which we are raised!!  Anyway, back to the original point, eugenics should be taught sensitively in science classes so that people understand a) how to detect the warning signs of a budding eugenics-based argument and b) why they’re wrong to begin with.  Only then can we civilly discuss issues like how to mitigate the problems of the (fairly theoretical to begin with) human genetic load or whatever.

Today I’m thankful for the walks promenades I took last night and tonight!!  It was decently warm and I just needed to blow off some steam (we’re a mere week into daylight savings and I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate how sunset starts at 2 pm I hate how I feel down more often now).  Plus CRC3E38 was released yesterday and I tore through that thing on my walks.  I’m thankful that there’s a big open area on campus where people often frequent so I feel safe walking at night.  I’m thankful that I, a patron of the arts, went to see an (free) a capella show tonight, a lovely and uniquely collegiate experience.  I’m thankful that my cello-friend liked my arrangement draft!!  Finally, I’m thankful that I know people who will straight up tell me who the red flags in my field of choice are because I was definitely unknowingly flying close to one.

I read for fun and enjoyment, not to tick the little boxes. As cliche as it is, it's all about the journey and not the destination. This is such a difficult question. There were so many good books that I read this year. I feel like I have favorites in different categories like this is an awards ceremony. fffs. Overall, I'm going to go with Scum Villain because it's been just a general good source of brain worms this year. The bees have ate well over that book. I mean. I've read concurrent sequels (books published in multiple volumes) but I don't count those. Because they're all one story told in multiple parts. As for Sequel sequels... I know absolutely nothing is going to top Husband Materials. Even though I haven't read it yet. LOL.

aro ace here. I don't really do crushes. I just have a lot of fictional children. Newest fictional child is Luo Binghe and Xie Lian. As well as maybe Violet from Dark Rise. Luo Binghe: The protagonist who deserved none of his bullshit ever despite some of the horrible things he did. Did not deserve the absolute trashing the plot gave him in Volume 3.

Xie Lian: Local Tired Grandpa with a traumatic past just wants to collect his trash in peace, and both divine realms have decided he will not do that. More news at 11. Violet: Local mixed girl gets harassed by the plot. Absolutely doesn't deserve it. You will be hearing from my unethical treatment of fictional characters lawyer. this is a joke I swear to god.

Honey Girl got me GOOD during Grace Porter's mental breakdown. Been there grace. Been there so hard girlie.

Most recently I was in HYSTERICS over This Way Out. Full on ugly inconsolable crying for like 10 minutes over. well. His family is conservative and Muslim, they reject his gay marriage. But what's worse is his fiancee's family is very white and doesn't understand the stigma and the culture. and they just. so neatly wrap up Amar's family into a judgemental little package. and he's just like. "nope they may be assholes but they are my family and they deserve respect because despite THEIR actions I still LOVE them because they are worthy of LOVE." and it just made me grapple with a lot of complicated feelings I have revolving around my own queerness and family issues. Just a very strong gut punch of complications.

According this this post from 2013, it's DPA month! (Actually ten years ago...?) So I answered the questions! (Also this has been queued since December 2022 lol.)

I know this was supposed to be day by day, but I don't feel like it.

1. How did you start reading DPA?

This is gonna sound really dumb, but I found book six at my local library and started reading because I thought Koya had a cool outfit.

2. Who is your favorite hero?

It was Koya for a long long time, but as I'm writing this it's either Jun or Hareta. :) Not sure.

3. Who's your favorite villain?

This is gonna sound dumb, but I really do actually LOVE B-2. He's got some actually very good writing, and along with that he has a character arch! He's my little guy, but if I talk about him it comes out like a joke. qwq (Besides him though, really like Mars, she's just so cute.)

4. Favorite chapter?

Not sure if it's *actually* my favorite, but the battle between Mitsumi and Hareta when Mitsumi was in Team Galactic was one of the high points in the series.

5. What's something you wanted to see happen that didn't?

I wanted Jun and Hareta to battle! They're rivals and (unless I'm forgetting something stupid) they have never had a proper battle! It makes me sad. qwq

6. Favorite pokémon?

Hareta's Misdreavus! (Or Koya's Absol.) Such a little guy.

7. If DPA had a voice cast, who would you want to hear in the roles?

I don't know any voice actors besides Eric Vale (who I know from Hetalia), so, uh, he can be Jun I guess. XD

8. Favorite B-2 butt abuse moment?

I like the one where he gets bit from the first time because he imedietly shoots Hareta afterwards.

9. What's your favorite Hareta scene?

I like all the ones where he gets beat up and/or acts serious. XD (So, once again, the Mitsumi and Hareta battle is a favorite.

10. Did you have any predictions about DPA that came true?

I really wasn't thinking when I read it, so I didn't really have any predictions to make. (Also I read it in this order, "six, two, seven, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, *wait three years*, eight. My library didn't have the last book so I had to buy it.)

11. Did you have any predictions about DPA that didn't come true?

Again, I didn't try to think lol.

12. (November 12th is Cyrus Appreciation Day) What's your favorite Cyrus scene?

The one where Mitsumi, Jun, and Hareta are jokingly guessing what he was doing when he was missing. (Maybe this is more of a Jupiter scene but still.)

I lot! I guess the biggest one is that Hareta is (ethicly) Yupik! Or, the Pokemon world equivilent of it. (Link to article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yupik_peoples ) I also have some sexuality headcannons, such as Hareta being Pansexual, Koya being a man enjoyer but also a bit aspec, etc.

14. Favorite single panel?

OOH HOW DO I CHOOSE... I probably can't pick an actual favorite, because I have so many, but I know that page 13 in book 4 is always a win. (And the "I'm okay with being stupid!" panel is still awesome.)

15. What's your favorite Mitsumi scene?

I like the one where she almost gets exploded in the building. :D

16. What's your favorite Jun scene?

The one where he gets choked by the Tangrowth lol.

17. Favorite pokémon battle?

I already said it like eight times, but the Hareta and Mitsumi one is REALLY good. I also quite like the Koya and Hareta one. :)

I really really like Volker, but he was hardly in this manga so I guess Roarke?

Hmm. I like Hareta's dad's interaction with Cyrus that one time. (Honestly I don't pay much attention to the Galactic characters, lol.)

I want to see Hareta wearing a big coat. :) I also want Koya to wear am emo outfit, Mitsumi in a period costume (any era is fine), and Jun in, uh, full plate armor, sure.
