I seriously debated keeping this one in the drafts...
Okay, I felt compelled to analyze the timeline of all of Taylor’s rumored/alleged boyfriends (barring any that she supposedly dated pre-fame) and why I believe they could have been fake/pr setups...
Disclaimer: this is all speculative and is just my opinion. No one has to agree... we don’t all have to agree because really the only people who know the truth are Taylor and those she has shared it with. I do have a very skeptical view of the entertainment industry and pr, so that is a bias I will own up to. I especially think Taylor, for a very long time, was willing to play along with the pr side of things, but eventually reached a breaking point (as any normal human under that amount of pressure and scrutiny likely would). Whether that means she has faked all of her public relationships or some of them or just aspects of them... I can’t really, truly know that. So, just keep in mind that this is one little, insignificant person’s view of Taylor’s public relationships and that I do not personally know any of the people involved...
Don’t take this too seriously, peeps... I’ll even tag it as crack theory...
Joe J.: June/July-September/October 2008
If nothing else this feels like a typical pr setup of two young stars. He had Camp Rock, a Jonas Bros’ album and a tour and concert film to promote. Camp Rock came out on 6/20/2008. The Jonas Bros’ third album, A Little Bit Longer, was released on 8/12/2008. In August, Taylor joined the band on stage during the filming for a concert movie that would be released in February 2009.
Taylor had an album that was released just weeks after their alleged breakup. An album which contained a few songs that would be attributed to Joe J. due to the publicity surrounding their relationship. Hmm... what a great way to drum up interest in an album that includes quite a few heartbreak songs. Not saying I know that is the case, but they both had a lot to promote between June and November 2008.
Lucas T.: March-April/May 2009
He was in the Hannah Montana movie, which was released 4/10/2009. Taylor had a cameo in that movie and also wrote a song for the soundtrack. Lucas also played Taylor’s love interest in the mv for YBWM, which premiered 5/2/2009 on CMT. He was in one of her Myspace vlogs in April 2009. IMO, this was a setup to promote the Hannah Montana movie and the YBWM mv, but it didn’t really take off. Lucas later said they dated briefly, but he realized that he just saw her as a friend...
Taylor L.: August-December 2009
They played a couple in Valentine’s Day. In September, just days after the VMAs where KW interrupted Taylor on stage as Taylor L. stood a few feet away, Taylor went to an Owl City concert at the Bowery Ballroom where she met the man who would supposedly inspire “Enchanted”. Umm... “please don’t be in love with someone else”... even though I am currently dating Taylor L. and he is my forever crush, but like, I am totally crushing on you actually. I have no clue if any Swifties have ever picked up on that discrepancy.
Oh, and Taylor L. also “dated” Selena in early 2009 and I doubt Taylor would go there, even if they ended on good terms. I mean, it’s possible, but idk it seems unlikely to me.
John M.: December 2009-February 2010
I think Taylor admired him as a musician (this seems to have been mutual with John praising her talent multiple times) and she may have seen him as a mentor at first. I do not believe that anything happened between them beyond that. I think he was so thrown off by “Dear John” because of that. He was already tweeting in the spring of 2009, hinting at wanting to collaborate with Taylor. The album their duet was on came out in November 2009, right before they started “dating”. Although it wasn’t released as a single until June 2010.
Besides, Liz (friend or otherwise) has remained a fan of John and even went to his concert a few years back. So, either she didn’t care that he screwed one of her supposed good friends over or it didn’t go down how people were led to believe it did.
Jake G.: October 2010-December/January 2011
Unless this relationship started much earlier than everyone has been led to believe, it is very unlikely that ATW is about him. It certainly seems to have been written prior to the maple latte/scarf/sister’s house articles that were abundant after that pap walk. Either Taylor used him as a scapegoat for a song that wasn’t about him or he was a willing participant in a pr scheme to make sure people thought the song was about him.
He couldn’t have been setup with his costar, Anne H., because she was already in a long term, committed relationship. At the time Taylor was still good pr since she was still known as a kind of girl next door, all American type with genuine talent.
I’m not saying I know for a fact it was fake. I’m saying there are plenty of reasons why I think it was. Everyone has different perspectives... mine is that this was purely a pr setup.
Will A.: sometime in 2010 and/or mid or fall 2011-January 2012 or May (?) 2012
They were likely just friends, but people did think they were dating back then. The songs that people think he wrote about Taylor (”White Dress” and “Kiss Me Slowly”) were recorded in 2010. So, if she started dating him in September 2011, which people think because the dress she wore to his May 2012 birthday party was the one she is wearing on the “Begin Again” cover art, then those songs aren’t about her. About the party dress...  Sarah B., who took the picture, was also friends with the Parchute guys, so maybe the photoshoot that the picture on that cover art came from happened earlier that day.
He was friends with Liz’s ex Jason and one of his best friends is still to this day very close friends with Liz, so that’s probably how he met Taylor. I think Taylor hung out with that crew a bit back then. AND those times Will and Taylor were seen hanging out in late fall/early winter 2011, Jason and/or the other friend were there. Yes, I am saying that Taylor was hanging out with Jason in November/December 2011, just a few months after he and Liz supposedly broke up. She was also still hanging out with Liz a lot at that time and after, though, so I think it was all good.
Conor K.: July 2012-September/October 2012
This was Taylor’s worst pr. If it was a real relationship... it is borderline predatory. If it is fake... still a big yikes... I don’t have much to say about this one. I think it was fake and an attempt at making him the muse for “Starlight” (how cute, this song she wrote about his grandparents sort of became about them), “Begin Again” (nevermind that the copyright record say the song was written in 2011), and EHC (nevermind that the song was written in May 2012). It would have been great pr, though, if he was a couple years older. Taylor should have fired Paula after this one... (because the public should have never known about it, real or fake).
Harry S.: November 2012-January 2013
Similar to all the others before (and after), there were “random” sightings, including a birthday trip to “the lakes” and blatant pr (go on and wear that fox sweater and paper airplane necklace, Taylor...). That NYE kiss, though...
Calvin: February 2015-May/June 2016
Taylor finally dropped her old publicist and brought on Tree. First step, was to erase the “boy crazy”/“man eater” label (and possibly the “professional beard” label) and become an independent woman who just wants to have fun with her gal pals. It got a bit gayer than expected (whether Kaylor was really a thing to some degree or not is irrelevant to the point). The gay rumors were actually catching on even faster and people were like “oh, that’s why she couldn’t keep a man” (sexist/homophobic as all of this is/was, ofc).
Enter Calvin... a playboy DJ who some might deem “tall and handsome as hell” (peeps, I am not really the best judge of a man’s attractiveness, so this is just how I think people see him). He seems sooo straight. I don’t know how else to say it. All of her other supposed boyfriends had gay rumors, whether or not those rumors were just people gossiping or had some basis in reality... I think he is the only one that doesn’t have them, that I know of anyway.
I know a lot of people think they were really together, but I think this was an attempt to have her in a more serious, long term relationship to counteract both the gay rumors (not necessarily as a cover for a woman because I don’t think all of the guys have been or need to have been covers for a secret relationship with a woman, it’s about appearing straight) and the “can’t keep a man” narrative that had followed her around. Even if they were in some sort of situationship (not what I think, just theorizing here), it wouldn’t have been a steady thing and they seemed to not like each other very much when all was said and done.
I still laugh that he said Taylor was the opposite of his type (and specified that he likes brunettes) in November 2014 and then he allegedly dated her for almost a year and a half, starting literally a few months after he made that comment. If that was a real relationship, he was either playing it cool when he said that or he misjudged her or Taylor was determined to date him because it was a challenge.
Either way, it seems like her team controlled the public narrative and maybe Calvin was okay with that at first, but over time it seemed like he wasn’t a big fan of that. Maybe that visit to the strip mall massage parlor was a bit of a rebellion...
At least they both got some royalties out of it...
Joe A.: September 2016-Present
Taylor’s team absolutely has control of the public narrative and he seems okay with that. He is a literal mirrorball. He is whatever Taylor supposedly says he is in her songs/whatever Swifties want him to be.
He likes to drop fun facts like how his family jumps into a freezing pond at Christmas or that he worked at a yogurt shop as a teenager. Whether they are real or not... he seems to be playing into the pr. Dropping little bits of information that will tie him to her songs... it is very “maple latte”/“paper airplane necklace”/dark jeans and Nikes... OR Taylor is just taking the few facts people know about him and using it to pin songs on him.
If he is a beard (which imo he likely is), I think he gets along with Taylor and doesn’t mind the minimal pr of it all.
I don’t think he is WB, either way...
Again this is just my view of things. This has no bearing on which women Taylor may have dated. I could do a separate post on what I think that timeline might look like.
One point I will reiterate is that I do not think that a beard would always be a cover for a secret relationship with a woman. I think it sometimes is, but it can be more of a general cover for someone who is gay. So many people think Taylor is the straightest person who has ever lived simply because of her public dating record. I mean, heteronormativity and homophobia also play a big part in that...
Edit: I completely skipped Tom lol. I just don’t buy that one either. Maybe he thought it would be good publicity or maybe he was led on to think it was more real than it was or maybe he was just having fun. Idk. All kinds of articles written about them at the time included some caveat about how they seemed fake or were maybe filming something...

February 16, 2021: Carol (2015) (Part 1)
...Harold...
Tumblr media
Yeah, I had to do this one. Partially because I knew about this film previously, as it was kind of a smash hit when it came out in theaters. It was about as big of a deal as Blue is the Warmest Color, which...we might get there. But, yeah, Carol was already on my radar when I decided to dip into LGBT cinema.
But also...you can thank my girlfriend again. There she is (as she’s choosing to represent herself through GIF form) below.
Tumblr media
We love The Owl House. Anyway, I wasn’t aware of the meme until we were watching a movie, and she just screamed “HAROLD THEY’RE LESBIANS!” And after doing some research on that statement...that’s goddamn hilarious. And it all started with Carol, so the writing’s basically on the wall there.
Here’s what I know. This movie stars Cate Blanchett...OK, that’s it! Shall we find out more firsthand? SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Recap
Tumblr media
In New York City, a man enters a bar and restaurant, where he sees an old acquaintance, Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), who is having dinner with another woman, Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett). And, uh, lemme just say, we’re jumping off RIGHT away, and my girlfriend immediately starts screaming “HAROLD” at the screen.
Anyway, Jake invites her to a party with mutual friends, and Carol and Therese end their dinner date early. As Therese looks out of the window of a car on the way to the party, she thinks backwards through time, and takes us with her. FLASHBACK
Tumblr media
Therese wakes up one morning around Christmastime, only to see her boyfriend, Richard Semco (Jake Lacy), ready to take her to work on a bicycle though Central Park. They talk about going to Paris on vacation, an idea about which Therese seems nonchalant. Therese works at Frankenberg’s, a department store that doesn’t exist. As is typical of the season in NYC, shoppers and their children flood the place. We went there on Christmas of 2019, and I grew up in the area. Trust me when I say Christmas in NYC is FUCKIN’ NUTS.
Therese works at the toy counter, and that’s when Carol arrives to get a doll for her daughter. Unfortunately, they’re out of the doll she’s looking for, so Therese offers a model train set to her instead, and the two hit it off basically immediately. And when I say hit it off, they HIT IT OFF. Like...the chemistry is IMMEDIATE. Maybe that’s Cate Blanchett’s pure charisma, but I’m just saying...they have the fastest chemistry establishment that I’ve seen yet.
Tumblr media
But oh no! Carol’s forgotten her gloves! However, it doesn’t seem like much results from that, as the work day is soon over, and Therese and Richard go to a movie and a beer with friends Phil (Nik Pajic) and Danny McElroy (John Magaro). That night, having returned home, Therese looks at Carol’s gloves. Using information obtained during the department store visit, she mails the gloves to Carol, at her gorgeous mansion.
Carol is combing her daughter’s hair, as her husband Harge Aird (Kyle Chandler) arrives home with the mail. Things seem somewhat amiss, as Carol seems extremely unhappy. She later calls her at the department store to thank her for the gloves, and offers to buy her lunch that afternoon. She agrees, and the two head to a nice restaurant.
Tumblr media
Over the course of the meal, it’s revealed that Carol and Harge are going through a divorce (yeah, that tracks), and Therese’s conflicted on how she feels about her relationship with Richard. Carol invites her to come over at some point, and she agrees.
Later on, while in traffic in the car of a friend, Abby Gerhard (Sarah Paulson), she seems to acknowledge potential attraction between her and Therese, although it’s not exactly set in stone. She heads to a party that evening. Meanwhile, she visits her friend Danny, an aspiring writer, who inquires about her hobby of photography, and then...kisses her...even though she’s dating a friend. Fuckin’ OH BOY, DANNY.
Tumblr media
Harge takes Carol home, and he’s 100% still in love with her, and she’s just not feeling it. This may be related to the fact that she and Abby were also once a couple. Yeah. Harge is aware of this, and they were DEFINITELY a romantic couple in the past, which means...yeah, Carol’s a straight-up lesbian, it would seem. Harge says it “shouldn’t be like this,” and it’s not clear whether that refers to Carol’s attraction to women, or the divorce in general. It is the 1950′s, after all.
OH WAIT. Forgot to mention that, didn’t I? This film takes place in the 1950s, I think? Hasn’t been made super clear as of yet, but the aesthetic is certainly the 1950s, without much doubt. The next day, Carol goes to pick Therese up, and meets Richard. Richard tells Therese he loves her as they depart. Therese doesn’t return the sentiment. FUCKIN’ OOF.
Tumblr media
As the two drive through Lincoln Tunnel together, their dialogue is quieted, and we get some interesting close-up shots of their eyes, lips, faces. And it’s definitely meant to suggest something more physical, something without words. In other words...Harold’s wife is starting to get the idea. Harold’s not quite there yet, though.
Tumblr media
Carol and Therese go to Carol’s home in New Jersey, where she meets her and 4-year old Harge’s daughter, Rindy, who Carol obviously loves VERY much. That night, Therese plays the piano, and also shares her passion for photography with Carol. Carol shows interest in her hobby, when Harge suddenly shows up to take Lindy unexpectedly for Christmas with his family, away from her.
The argument that this results in quickly envelops Therese, as Harge confronts Carol about her presence there. The ending result, though, is that Carol is forced to let Rindy leave early with Harge. And yeah, its sad for her. Harge, on the other hand, is being an absolute dick. The two have a verbal and PHYSICAL argument outside, which Therese partially overhears.
Tumblr media
As an apology for bringing Therese into this marital struggle, Carol gives her a ride to the train station, so she can make her way home that night. On the train, Therese cries. Is this because of Harge, because of Carol, because of a struggle with her own feelings? I’m honestly not sure. And it’s a good question.
Tumblr media
Carol seems to believe that it’s because of her, though, as she turned her away somewhat abruptly. However, she quickly tries to make up for it by calling and apologizing. Therese says that she has questions for her, and Carol is more than willing to answer them. The next day, Carol goes down to her divorce attorney’s office, only to discover that Harge is trying to take away ALL of Carol’s custody.
And the reason for it? You guessed it! Carol’s a lesbian! Sooooooo, FUCK HARGE!!! With this otion, Carol won’t be able to see Rindy for several months, which hurts her greatly. Again, fuck Harge, he’s a dick who’s taking away Carol’s joy and time with her daughter solely because Carol isn’t attracted to him. GODDAMN, that absolutely sucks.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Therese’s struggling with her own feelings, some of which may be for Carol, and actually STRIGHT-UP asks Richard his opinions on the origins of homosexuality. He believes that it can’t just happen like heterosexual love, which...I mean, 1950s, what can I tell ya, it wasn’t great. He point-blank asks her if she’s in love with a girl, and she says no, and leaves him in the street in a huff. And real talk, I feel bad...for Richard. Therese, too, but dude is genuinely in head-over-heels with Therese, and is just NOT getting the hint.
Carol and Abby go to have lunch, where Carol breaks the news. They share tenderness, as they have in the past, and Abby’s pretty clearly out of the closet, as much as one can be in the 1950s. Also, quick aside to note that Sarah Paulson rules...and moving on.
Tumblr media
Carol then visits Therese, and gives her new camera equipment as a kind gesture. Carol shares with her the news of the struggle with her husband, and says that she’s going on a trip, to get away for a while. She invites Therese to come with her, quite spontaneously, and Therese equally spontaneously says yes! Fuckin OOOOOOOF to Richard, goddamn.
Also, exactly the halfway point! See you in Part 2!

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (26): Thu 7th Apr 2022
Today was dull as shit, I was stuck in the house and felt really tired due to fucking covid. I wanted to do something at least slightly productive so I made a list of what I consider to be the best storylines Hollyoaks have ever done. I've been watching the show since 2005 and though it's quite boring most of the time (especially now), throughout it's history it has done some amazing storylines and here are some of the best ones: Without a doubt the best storyline the show has ever done is Lynsey vs Silas and it's not even close. Silas arrived in the village and started murdering promiscuous women. Nurse Lynsey Nolan realized he was the killer but knowing that she had no proof rather than kill her Silas decided to carry on his spree taunting Lynsey and playing the vulnerable old man whenever she would accuse him of being the killer. This was incredible. The goal of any soap is to try and get the viewers to empathize with a character and not only did I empathize with Lynsey and cheer her on to get the rest of the village to realize Silas was the killer I used to rush home from work to watch the next episode. Man it was so good. What I wouldn't give for the show to be this good again The 2nd best story they've done is the Craig & John Paul love story. I remember watching the episode where they met & for months they slowly developed their friendship and at one point they both had girlfriends but every now and again they would drop hints that something wasn't right with John Paul and Hannah's relationship. Then they would start dropping little hints that JP was attracted to Craig. The episode where JP confessed that he loved Craig is still one of the most beautiful moments in the show ever. Becca & Justin’s affair. This spanned multiple years & included subplots involving knife crime, pregnancy & betrayal. It also had an almost Shakespearean level tragic ending with Becca’s death in prison & Justin being partially responsible. This storyline won a Soap Award but it boggles my mind how neither of the actors, any of the writers and the show itself weren’t nominated for a BAFTA on the strength of this plot. It was so damn good Hannah’s Anorexia. At the time I was young & naive & didn’t know the real effects of anorexia. In fact I remember it being a topic of humour (Epic Movie making a Nicole Richie stick figure joke). This story changed all that though. Hannah was so hurt at her boyfriend announcing he was gay that she convinced herself that she was the one who turned him gay due to not putting more effort into her looks. She then met an anorexic who showed her how to lose weight quickly and what followed was Hannah and her friend starting to eat less and less until the latter died of starvation. Sienna vs Nancy. The 2nd best “Vs” story after Lindsey vs Silas. A year of Sienna using mind games to make Nancy think she was going crazy to steal Darren. Every time we thought Nancy had finally bested Sienna she pulled out another scheme that made Nancy look like the crazy one. We also got to see both ladies dressed as Lara Croft which I think should have gotten the show nominated for a BAFTA right then and there
Tumblr media
Finn Rapes John Paul. Rape storylines happen all the time in soaps but Hollyoaks occasionally puts an interesting spin on things and this time they took the unusual route of having a minor rape an adult. Very creepy but still compelling TV. And the less said about their ridiculous attempt to do a redemption storyline for Finn a few years ago the better. Trying to get us to feel sorry for a rapist, what the hell were they thinking? Fire At The Dog.The first major stunt I saw in the show. Any time you do a big stunt based storyline you create numerous stories off the back of it and this led to Justin’s downward spiral, OB vs Clare, Calvin forgiving Jake among others Patrick & Maxine domestic abuse. The first story that genuinely made me want to reach into the TV and try to help a character. Seeing a character as happy as Maxine reduced to a shell of her former self was heartbreaking. I also hope that it encouraged a lot of victims to speak out and seek help Myra's long- lost song Zippy McQueen returns. The son Myra abandoned on a church step (Who was inexplicably black and ginger despite not having black or ginger parents) returns and plots to bring down the McQueen family from within.
Tumblr media
Well boy do I feel like a jackass guys. I think I might have gotten this storyline mixed up with one from the sitcom Gimme Gimme Gimme.

Taylor Swift details past eating disorder in 'Miss Americana'
When it comes to pop stars, Taylor Swift isn’t the most forthcoming. While her fans love to read into her every song lyric, she never actually reveals who her music is about. Unlike Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga, her social media presence is pretty demure, mostly reserved for photos of her cats and promotional material. So when it was announced that Swift had agreed to be the subject of a new Netflix documentary, we couldn’t wait to see what — if any — candid details she’d disclose in “Miss Americana,” which begins streaming Jan. 31 on Netflix. We went to the Sundance Film Festival premiere of the movie on Thursday, and took notes on all the doc’s biggest revelations. 1. She struggled with an eating disorder In New York City, the outside of Swift’s apartment — her “front yard,” as she calls it — is permanently surrounded by paparazzi ready to snap photos of her to sell to tabloids. But in “Miss Americana,” the singer acknowledges that she’ll no longer look at the images posted of her online daily. “I tend to get triggered by something — whether it’s a picture of me where I feel like my tummy looked too big, or someone said that I looked pregnant or something — and that will trigger me to just starve a little bit. Just stop eating.” Swift goes on to reveal that she struggled with an eating disorder for years, often feeling as if she was going to pass out during her concerts. She made a list of everything she put in her mouth each day, exercised constantly and got down to a size double zero. (She’s now a size six, she says.) “I would have defended it to anybody who said ‘I’m concerned about you,’” she says. “I don’t think you know you’re doing that when you’re doing it gradually. There’s always some standard of beauty that you’re not meeting. Because if you’re thin enough, then you don’t have that ass that everybody wants, but if you have enough weight on you to have an ass, then your stomach isn’t flat enough,” she says. “It’s all just impossible.” Now, whenever she has the urge to judge her body harshly, she practices positive self-talk: “Nope. We don’t do that anymore. We do not do that anymore because it’s better to think you look fat than to look sick.”
Tumblr media

She wishes she’d spoken out against Donald Trump during the 2016 election After years of keeping her political beliefs to herself for fear of isolating her fan base, Swift first voiced support for a candidate during the 2018 midterms. The film shows her weighing whether or not to speak out against Republican Senate Candidate Marsha Blackburn, and those closest to her fret that it will put her in physical danger. During a heated family discussion, her father points out that old-school performers like Bing Crosby and Bob Hope never talked about politics. Swift, her eyes filling with tears, tells him she’s “sad” she didn’t publicly oppose Trump two years ago. “But I can’t change that,” she says. “I need to do this. I need you to, dad, to forgive me for doing it — because I’m doing it.” Just as she’s about to press send on an Instagram post about Blackburn, her team is still concerned about the impact. Her publicist warns Swift that “the president could come after you.” “ that,” Swift replies. “I don’t care.” 3. She used to live her life to be liked As a kid, Swift says, she kept stacks of journals. But she didn’t just write in them with sparkly gel pens. At one point, she used an actual brass quill and ink. And what did she use the antiquated writing tool for? To write about her “moral code” — “the need to be thought of as good.” “It was all I wrote about. It was all I wanted,” she admits in the movie. “It was the complete and total belief system I subscribed to as a kid.” She lived for “pats on the head,” she says — any praise that she was doing a good job on her homework or her songwriting. She only found fulfillment through external approval, and subsequently became “the person who everyone wanted me to be.” That’s why public criticism — She’s annoying! She’s gone through so many boyfriends! She’s only friends with models! — has been difficult for her to overcome. “When people decided I was wicked and evil and conniving and not a good person, that was the one that I couldn’t really bounce back from,” she says, “because my whole life was centered around it.”

Her sexual assault court battle changed her irrevocably In 2015, Colorado disc jockey David Mueller sued Swift, claiming he lost his radio station job after her security team accused him of groping the singer. Swift countersued, alleging assault and detailing the inappropriate touching. She won and was awarded the amount she sought: $1 in damages. But the emotional impact the verdict had on her was far more consequential. “I was unspeakably and unchangeably different after the sexual assault trial,” Swift says in the film. “No man, or organization, or my family, will ever understand what that was like.” Despite winning the case, Swift said she didn’t feel any sense of victory “because the process is so dehumanizing.” And in her situation, she had seven witnesses and a photo backing up her claim. “What happens when you get raped and it’s your word against his?” she asks. 5. She was attracted to Joe Alwyn because of his ‘wonderful, normal, balanced kind of life’ Swift has dated a handful of famous men — Jake Gyllenhaal, Harry Styles, Tom Hiddleston — who have also made their way into her music. But when she started dating actor Joe Alwyn in late 2016, she liked that he had more of a “wonderful, normal, balanced kind of life.” His vibe put her at ease during a difficult time in her life, she said, when she was facing Kanye West-fueled backlash. (Remember the “I made that bitch famous” line from his 2016 jam “Famous”? Yeah, it was about her.) Alwyn barely appears in the documentary, though. At one point, she kisses his hand during a car ride. She also runs into his arms after a concert, and the couple sweetly drape their arms over each other’s shoulders as they wander around backstage. 6. She didn’t try a burrito until she was 26 Just as she’s about to turn 29, Swift sits in the record studio reflecting on what the age signifies. There’s a part of her, she admits, that isn’t ready to have kids — for “all this grown up stuff.” Heck, she points out, she just tried a burrito for the first time two years ago. Which means that Taylor Swift did not eat a wondrous mix of meat, cheese, beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream until she was apparently 26 years old. Process that. 7. She’s not ready for kids yet While Swift takes excellent care of her feline children — she even feeds one at her dinner table as she eats alongside the animal — she isn’t ready for kids of her own just yet. At 29, she says, part of her feels “57 years old” — but another part is “definitely not ready to have kids.” Case in point? She recalls visiting a friend who just had a baby and hearing how the newborn’s schedule consists of sleeping, eating, and being changed. Swift’s response? “So it’s like a Tamagotchi,” she says with a smile. Read More Read the full article

The 10 rising stars you should watch for in 2019
Because the Oscar nominations draw close to, the focus will shine on many well-known names. However let’s transfer on and try the up-and-comers in Hollywood to watch on screens in the approaching years. A few of our rising stars already had breakout roles in 2018, together with Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie of “Go away No Hint” and John David Washington of “BlacKkKlansman.” Movie star DNA additionally makes our listing of newbies with Washington, who has downplayed the truth that he’s the offspring of the one and solely Denzel, and Maya Hawke, daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. Veteran performers, together with Awkwafina (“Loopy Wealthy Asians”), who’ve been toiling in the trade for years (in her case, as a rapper), are also getting their correct consideration, together with the very freshest-faced of newcomers, similar to 13-year-old Shahadi Wright Joseph. Right here’s who to maintain your eye on now and in the years to come back. Awkwafina Awkwafina in a scene from “Loopy Wealthy Asians.”AP The place you know her from: Her rap albums “Yellow Ranger” and “In Fina We Belief,” as Constance in “Oceans 8” and because the wild and wisecracking greatest good friend Peik Lin in “Loopy Wealthy Asians” The place you’ll see her this 12 months: A secretive new fantasy drama movie known as “Paradise Hills” and a Comedy Central TV sequence known as — what else? — “Awkwafina.” Why she’s a standout: This 29-year-old actress, who was born and raised in New York, has an explosive persona that will have been helped alongside by her bizarre listing of pre-fame jobs: bodega employee and air- conditioning firm worker, amongst them. What she’s recognized for now isn’t promoting sandwiches, however stealing scenes. In “Oceans 8,” she starred alongside Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock and Rihanna. Who was everyone speaking about? Awkwafina. In “Loopy Wealthy Asians,” Constance Wu performed the romantic lead. Who did everyone bear in mind? The hilarious greatest good friend, Awkwafina. In 2019, she’s poised to turn into a comedy powerhouse. Ed Oxenbould Ed Oxenbould in “Wildlife.”©IFC Movies/Everett Assortment The place you know him from: Because the grandson in 2015’s “The Go to” and as Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal’s emotionally struggling teen son in “Wildlife” The place you’ll see him this 12 months: “Being Gavin,” an Australian movie that additionally stars his dad Jamie Why he’s a standout: Like Lucas Hedges in “Manchester by the Sea” or Nicholas Hoult in “A few Boy,” Oxenbould is a younger actor who excels at listening. For audiences, that quiet contemplation makes the teenager with deep swimming pools for eyes completely transfixing. The 17-year-old Australian confirmed off his chops final 12 months in Paul Dano’s film “Wildlife,” in which he outshone co-stars Mulligan and Gyllenhaal as a son who needed to pave his personal path as his dad and mom’ lives unraveled. He’s one of many youngest actors on our listing, but when this extraordinary first main function is any indication, he has a few years of strolling the crimson carpet to come back. Joe Alwyn WireImage The place you know him from: “Boy Erased,” “Mary Queen of Scots” and Emma Stone’s kinky boy toy in “The Favorite” The place you’ll see him this 12 months: “Harriet,” the brand new Harriet Tubman biopic starring Cynthia Erivo and Janelle Monáe Why he’s a standout: It’s simple to neglect Alwyn is a rattling good actor. That’s as a result of his most cited credit score tends to be his function as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. However whereas engagement rumors swirl, the good-looking Brit has had a run of supporting roles in main, acclaimed movies — 4 in 2018 alone. With every passing function the 6-foot-2 actor reveals extra persona and sheds some boyishness — typically scandalously. In “The Favorite,” Alwyn, 27, has intercourse scenes with Stone and at one level tells her, “I’ll have you stripped and whipped.” As for what goes on in his life with Swift, whom he started courting in 2017, he refuses to debate it. “I believe we now have been efficiently very personal, and that has now sunk in for folks,” he instructed British Vogue. John David Washington John David Washington starred in “Blackkklansman.”Focus Options The place you know him from: “Monsters and Males,” “Monster,” “The Previous Man & the Gun” with Robert Redford, and as a Colorado police division’s first black officer in “BlacKkKlansman” The place you’ll see him this 12 months: Greater than doubtless on the Oscars Why he’s a standout: In Washington’s quick, however impactful profession, he has carried out the unattainable: He’s made us neglect he’s Denzel Washington’s son. A formidable and completely completely different actor from his pop, 34-year-old Washington began out taking part in soccer. He was even signed by the St. Louis Rams, however quickly determined the pigskin wasn’t for him. “As soon as I tore my Achilles tendon, I knew I couldn’t play once more,” he instructed The Publish final September. “That’s after I transitioned to my first ardour.” His greatest break to this point has been Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman,” which earned him a Golden Globe nod for greatest actor. He might be forging a brand new appearing dynasty: Barrymores, Redgraves, Washingtons. Danielle Macdonald Danielle Macdonald in a scene from “Dumplin.’ “Netflix The place you know her from: As an aspiring rapper in “Patti Cake$,” a Dolly Parton obsessed fan in “Dumplin’,” and the sufferer of an apocalyptic plague in “Hen Field” The place you’ll see her this 12 months: “Paradise Hills” and a Netflix sequence known as “Unbelievable,” additionally starring Toni Collette Why she’s a standout: You’ve most likely seen a number of Macdonald the previous few months. That’s as a result of two of her hottest movies to this point — “Hen Field” and “Dumplin’ ” — have been each launched by Netflix in December. The 27-year-old Australian actress radiates attraction and persona on-screen, when rapping or singing, being humorous or susceptible. Her efficiency in “Patti Cake$” made such an impression, she was supplied the function of Jennifer Aniston’s daughter in “Dumplin’ ” with out having to audition. The function required her to croon with Dolly Parton, however Macdonald, a superb rapper, doesn’t take into account herself historically musical. “I can’t sing. So, you know, it took me a very very long time to get a take that was half respectable,” she instructed Elle. “It wasn’t my first time in a recording sales space, nevertheless it was my first time singing and I needed to sing on set to Dolly Parton.” Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie in “Go away No Hint.”Scott Inexperienced / Bleecker Avenue You might know her from: A pitch-perfect efficiency as the teenager daughter of a traumatized struggle vet (Ben Foster) in the quiet, critically-acclaimed indie “Go away No Hint.” That earned her the breakthrough efficiency award from the Nationwide Board of Evaluation. Or, if you’re a fellow Kiwi, you could know her from earlier TV sequence together with the children’ present “Lucy Lewis Can’t Lose” and the cleaning soap opera “Shortland Avenue.” The place you’ll see her this 12 months: She’ll be throughout in 2019, from the Taika Waititi-directed darkish comedy “Jojo Rabbit,” taking part in a Jewish lady throughout World Struggle II, to “The King,” in which she’ll seem reverse one in every of final 12 months’s up-and-comers, Timothée Chalamet. She’s additionally taking part in a grieving sibling in the upcoming Netflix sequence “Misplaced Ladies,” the true-crime story of a Lengthy Island lady who goes lacking — not like McKenzie, who’ll be ever-more seen. Why she’s a standout: The 18-year-old actress has already proven a knack for delving deep into her roles; she discovered real-life survival abilities together with fire-building and foraging for “Go away No Hint,” which, by the way, was directed by Debra Granik — who found one other up-and-comer by the title of Jennifer Lawrence for her 2010 movie, “Winter’s Bone.” Shahadi Wright Joseph Actor Shahadi Wright Joseph, left, with singer David Aleksander on the American Music Awards in October.UPI You might know her from: Taking part in Little Inez in 2016’s “Hairspray Reside!” — in which she was the youngest solid member — plus Broadway roles in “College of Rock” and “The Lion King.” The place you’ll see her this 12 months: This 12 months, she’s set to revisit “The Lion King” as she voices the younger lion Nala in Disney’s live-action, large finances remake (in which Beyoncé is taking part in the grownup Nala), out in July. And he doesn’t shrink back from the powerful stuff: “I’m not somebody who seeks out tales of people who find themselves struggling,” he instructed Interview journal. “I believe they simply type of discover me.” Plus, it’s been famous that he shares a resemblance to the late River Phoenix — by no means a foul factor for a matinee idol on the rise. The 20-year-old actress inherited each her dad and mom’ attractiveness, leaning a bit towards Thurman. However regardless of leaving teachers behind, she says she wasn’t ever raised as a movie-star child: “It wasn’t like I used to be dragged round on crimson carpets. They wished me to have a childhood, they wished me to be in faculty,” she instructed the Hollywood Reporter. Lana Condor Lana Condor in a scene from “To All of the Boys I’ve Liked Earlier than.”©Netflix/Everett Assortment You might know her from: Starring in one of many summer season’s hottest exhibits, Netflix’s “To All of the Boys I’ve Liked Earlier than” (and thrilling followers by saying on Jimmy Fallon’s present that she and co-star Noah Centineo positively shared actual chemistry vibes whereas capturing). Of “To All of the Boys,” she instructed Nylon journal that she was proud “it’s not an Asian rom-com. It’s a rom-com that occurs to have an Asian actress because the lead. It normalizes, as a result of, sadly, that is nonetheless a groundbreaking factor.” Share this: https://nypost.com/2019/01/17/the-10-rising-stars-you-should-watch-for-in-2019/ The post The 10 rising stars you should watch for in 2019 appeared first on My style by Kartia. https://www.kartiavelino.com/2019/01/the-10-rising-stars-you-should-watch-for-in-2019.html

How Mad Men Star Kit Williamson Made His Own Gay Soap Opera
The problem, says Kit Williamson, is that EastSidersthe Emmy-nominated LGBT soap opera he created in 2012almost shares a name with EastEnders, the well-known BBC soap opera currently in its 32nd year.
And so when Williamson recommends people check out his drama about handsome LGBT Los Angelenos living, loving, screwing up, and doing what people on soap operas are wont to do, they end up going down totally the wrong rabbit hole on YouTube, and finding instead a group of East Londoners doing their own variation of the same, if at a much louder volume.
youtube
My recommendation: Watch both.
Season 3 of EastSiders, released on Nov. 28 digitally and on DVD, takes the shape of a cross-America road trip, complete with stunning skies and endless horizons, beginning with Douglas/Gomorrah Rey (played by Willam Belli) having a blow-up row in full drag and 116-degree heat beside the side of a highway, as his boyfriend Quincy (Stephen Guarino) tries in vain to pacify the situation.
Bellis heels melted in the heat, and Williamson, 32, directed the action clad in cooling wet towels. The glamor of independent web TV, he says, laughing.
Williamsons character, Cal, and partner Thom (Van Hansis) are heading back west after their sojourn in New York City, and have an encounter with a drifter played by model and porn star (and Donald Trump supporter) Colby Keller. Also returning for the third season are John Halbach, Williamsons real-life husband, and Constance Wu, Williamsons longtime buddy, as straight couple Ian and Kathy. (To confuse you even more, a leading mother-son duo in EastEnders is called the same.)
youtube
I wanted to create characters that I didnt really see on television, Williamson, who played Ed Gifford on Mad Men, told The Daily Beast. I think you see a lot of cautionary tales in LGBT representation and then hyper- morally-upright representations. Youre either in a couple, living in the suburbs with 2.5 kids, or youre a drug addict in the 1980s. Its rare that LGBT characters are allowed to operate in between, like all human beings operate.
Williamson is heartened by the growing diversity of representation in the TV shows of Shonda Rhimes and on cable, and hopes his EastSiders characters have flaws, make messes, and pick up the pieces, just like straight characters on TV.
EastSiders has been mostly financed through Kickstarter funding, raising $250,000 across three seasons. The third season is also partially funded by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Impulse Group Global, and the show incorporates both organizations safer sex messaging.
Its incredibly moving, says Williamson of the publics generous financial support for the show, which makes him even more determined that the show does its fans justice. EastSiders aims to be as culturally mixed as a small cast and limited number of episodes can allow. Inclusive storytelling should be everybodys goal, says Williamson.
If Williamson has a dream, it is that one day television will be able to sustain having two LGBT-themed shows on at the same time; or even that there will be LGBT lead characters on TV, whose sexuality or gender identity is part of their identities, rather than defining them.
Until that rainbow shines, we have a smattering of characters and shows like Queer as Folk, The L Word, and Looking, which flicker into life, cause their controversies and debates, then go. The capriciousness of LGBT representation on our screens is down to the capriciousness of mostly straight-run broadcasters.
Hansis himself found fame as Luke Snyder on CBS daytime soap As The World Turns, as a landmark gay character whom fans clamored to be allowed to kiss his boyfriend, Noah (Jake Silbermann). (Oh, have you seen their horsing-around towel wrestle? You must see the towel wrestle.)
EastSiders refers geographically to the parts of East Los AngelesSilver Lake, Los Feliz Echo Park, DTLAwhere the characters live, a boho-y, very different sort of vibe to the muscle boys of West Hollywood, although (as their social media accounts reveal) the extremely handsome and charming Williamson and Halbach look just as hot as any WeHo guy.
Some scenes in the show are filmed at the mens home, and looks attractively ruffled and laid-back, filled with vintage furniture, mismatched cushions and twinkly lights.
Williamson had problems getting straight actors to play gay when EastSiders first began, even though there were no sex scenes in the first two seasons. Any show with gay content is immediately presumed to be exploitative, Williamson notes.
The road trip of Season 3 was filmed on the road itself, with cast and crew starting out in Woodstock, upstate New York, and ending up in Los Angeles, trundling across the vast expanse of America in a vintage camper trailer and another vehicle.
It took two weeks, with an extended stay in Idaho to scout locations and shoot scenes. It was exciting, invigorating and harrowing, says Williamson, laughing. Its no small undertaking taking two carloads of people across the country, and making sure theyre in bed at a reasonable hour.
The team ran afoul of a runaway tire that put a dent in the camper early on. They were snowed out of Yellowstone National Park. They shot on the fly, and in some places permits allowing them to film were withdrawn when it was revealed that it was a gay-themed TV show.
We started telling places where we wanted to film that it was called Go West, and just said it was about two friends driving across the country together, Williamson says.
The Black Hills of South Dakota were especially breathtaking, he says. You owe yourself ten minutes off the main drag to see the Badlands (National Park in South Dakota). I could have explored it all day if I had the chance. I am a huge lover of mountains. Even though it was terrifying driving that fucking camper trailer up and down mountains it was still breathtaking, even if I nearly killed everybody two or three times.
Williamson concedes that he is biased about California where he lives, but recommends the eastern part near Nevada for that big sky feeling, and that moment you get to the coast after weeks on the road to arrive at the Pacific Ocean and put your feet in the sand. It felt like a cool homecoming for the characters and the crew.
It was a really challenging place to grow up gay, and I also grew up very religious which didnt help matters.
Williamson himself grew up in Mississippi, where the countrys most anti-LGBT law, HB 1523, has just taken root. He is surprised as to how little attention the law has garnered nationally, compared to the outcry over similar laws in North Carolina.
I think a lot of people write off Mississippi as a lost cause, says Williamson, who emceed a Pride celebration there two years ago. I understand why, but its still sad to me as a person who grew up there. I really want people to understand there are great people living in Mississippi fighting for their own rights and fighting for their neighbors.
There was a lot of homophobia when he was growing up, says Williamson. It was a really challenging place to grow up gay, and I also grew up very religious which didnt help matters. It was definitely a challenge for my family to understand me.
His whole family are employed in the area of law, and he surprised all of them by wanting to act. They were supportive of me, even if part of them thought Hell get over this eventually and enter the family business. I tell them, One day Ill play a lawyer on TV. Thats all I can guarantee.
As a boy, Williamson was a big nerd. I read a lot of fantasy novels. I had a mullet. I was very socially awkward, and it was difficult at school to be friends with other people. It was really hard for me. I knew I was different, I didnt know why. I was savagely bullied as a kid, people were terrible to me.
Williamsons older sister modeled herself on the cult animated character, Daria. I thought the way you handled bullies was being sarcastic and funny, he says. It didnt turn out well.
He and Halbach once compared notes on childhood bullying. I was Gay Kid and he was Gay Boy. We both had really unoriginal bullies. Williamson laughs softly. Little did they know that Gay Kid and Gay Boy were going to get together.
I didnt really think growing up that it would be possible wed have gay marriage nationally, he adds. To be able to take advantage of it as a citizenhe and Halbach married last yearhas been so incredibly moving to me.
Williamson and Halbach met in March 2007. Williamson was then a bartender at NYC theater-land hangout Angus McIndoe, and the men were introduced by a mutual friend who told each of them separately, Hes single and not crazy. It was a perfectly judged match. That night, the men stayed talking until the bar closed.
Williamson had underplayed the significance of marriage equality because the possibility seemed so far off, he adds. When the Supreme Court ruled, it hit us both. Wed been denying ourselves something that we really did find meaningful. Im so glad we did it.
Williamson has worked successfully as a filmmaker and actor for years. Making Mad Men was a masterclass, he says, watching both those in front and behind the cameras. The sexy pictures on his Instagram account are in service of promoting his work and LGBT rights, he insists, adding with another laugh, and in shamelessly promoting ourselves. Instagram is a tool for good and evil, and we try to use it for good, for the best of possibilities.
Williamson chuckles that the idea was to use social media to direct people to EastSiders and the mens other work, promoting fashion and fitness influencers and LGBT destinations, but now people recognize him and Halbach from social media itself.
How EastSiders fans respond to the inclusion of Colby Keller remains to be seen. His scenes were shot before he revealed his support of Donald Trump.
I was really surprised and caught off guard when I saw that, says Williamson, who, a Hillary Clinton supporter, had been shocked when Trump triumphed in last years presidential election. I was driving to Idaho when the gay blogs erupted in fury over his (Kellers) political leanings. We did make the choice not to replace him. I havent talked to him about what happened.
When it came to keeping Keller in the season, Williamson asked himself whether he would work with Susan Sarandon, another Clinton naysayer who backed Bernie Sanders.
I think were living in really, really divided times, and I dont want to do anything to add to that divide, says Williamson. I also dont think we should be casting people out of the village. Its complicated. A lot of my family members support Trump, not for ideologically pure reasons beyond really liking the guy and what he stands for.
Keeping Kellers role in EastSiders intact presented an interesting dilemma, and I dont have the answer to it, Willliamson admits.
I ask, had he known that Keller was a Trump supporter, would Williamson have still signed him up?
I dont know. When we were planning the season we were 99 percent sure Hillary Clinton was going to be president. Faced with the reality of working with an active Trump supporter right now in 2017 my answer would be no. Its just too much of open wound for me, and friends I know who are afraid of being deported. I do think its a very serious situation.
If Hollywood is to have any leg to stand on in shaping the culture we need to own up to the abuses of power that are very real.
Williamson recently posted on social media his experience of sexual harassment when he was starting out in the entertainment industry.
At 18, he was invited to a party at an agents house. He proceeded to tell me not to come out if I wanted to be an actor, to stay in the closet, and then tried to put his hand down my pants, Williamson recalls. It was this one, two punch of harassment and homophobia that was a bitter pill to swallow, and it soured me on Los Angeles for a couple of years.
He did not suffer any graver sexual assaults, as allegedly committed by the likes of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin fucking Spacey. I think its really important we have these conversations. If Hollywood is to have any leg to stand on in shaping the culture we need to own up to the abuses of power that are very real.
What his experience also shows, again, is Hollywoods powerful gays seeking to keep the closet intact, part of a historyfor Willliamsonof different groups acting as their own morality police and oppressors.
Its very sad and true. Theres still not been a gay movie star. Look at a lot of people who have succeeded on television. Most come out after their big break. Im not here to judge: Its brave to come out at the height of your success, but in 2017 I think we need to look at the paths other people have blazed for us and be brave enough to walk down them without fear.
Next for Williamson may come more EastSiders. He is also writing a series about queer thirtysomethings set in New Orleans.
Id love to get to a place where the leads of a show can be gay where that is normal and not extraordinary, says Williamson, and where the storylines can be both unique to us and more universal in the same breath; where we are allowed to be doctors, husbands, wives, crazy, not crazy, parents, single, slutty, and settled.
The whole incredible range of human experience should allowed to be represented in LGBT characters, where we are not defined solely by our sexuality.
The open road Williamson and his crew traveled for Season 3 of EastSiders perhaps says it all.
The third season of EastSiders will be released on DVD by Wolfe Video and digital platforms on Nov. 28. More details here.

Have you gone out with someone, then ruined the friendship you had before? not really. i’ve only had a couple boyfriends, and i’m married to one of those boys. other i was never exactly friends with, i don’t know. Do you think you will be married by the time you’re 25? i got married when i was 22. Are you currently looking forward to tomorrow? only because i get to spend the day with wy. Did you sleep alone last night? nope. slept with wy and jake. You kissed someone yesterday didn’t you? i did.
Do you believe everyone deserves a second chance? depends on the person and circumstances.
Would you stay in the same relationship for over a year? obviously. i’ve been with jake over nine. Who was the last person to comfort you as you cried? no one. Would you rather have your nose or tongue pierced? i’ve had my tongue pierced but i guess i’d feel weird having it now. and i’m not sure a nose piercing would look good on me. so probably neither. Have you hugged anyone in the last 72 hours? a few people. You can only drink one liquid for the rest of you life. What is it? water would suck, but you need it to live so.... Do you think you can last in a relationship for 3 months? obviously it can be done. Have you ever liked someone you didn’t expect to? ohhhh yeah. i actually never thought i’d like someone like jake but here we are. Did you hold hands with anyone today? wyatt held on to my hands to stand up, but other than that, no. Are you an alcoholic? no. not even close anymore. Do you have a younger sister? four, and a younger brother. Is it easy to pretend everything’s okay for you? usually i am. Do you hate when people try to play with your hair? depends who and my mood. sometimes i do. Are there certain things that can’t be joked about with you? definitely. What do you prefer skittles or starbursts? uh, starburst i guess. Did you eat a cookie today? no. jake offered to buy a cookie, but i didn’t want it. i did eat an ice cream cone though at jon and jade’s. Have you ever fallen asleep in someone’s arms? yeah. In your opinion, which is more attractive: nice biceps or washboard abs? both can be. Do you have any currency that’s not your native country’s? i do not. Are you talking to anyone right now? nope. trying to stay awake since wy is awake. Do you use the microwave a lot when it comes to cooking food? not really.

What do you want? christmas to be over so i don’t have to stay at the factory. a decent house for my son and family to live in. Last song you heard? i don’t know what it was called. Whose house did you go to last night? we went to jon and jade’s. we ate mac and cheese, watched john wick, and then went to bed. What do you wear more: jeans or sweatpants? jeans. Other than yours, whose house did you last fall asleep at? jon and jade’s. Why are you on the computer right now? wyatt is playing with lilli and rose, and i’m trying to stay awake. Whose bed other than yours did you last lay on? jon and jade’s. Crushing on anyone new? nope. Last text from? jake’s mom. i was telling her happy thanksgiving. When was the last time you were so drunk you threw up? it’s been over a year. Any plans for tomorrow? hang out with my baby. How do you feel about your current relationship status? married and it’s been rocky lately.. again. Are you currently trying to get over someone? friends, but yeah. Are you a monogamous person or do you believe in open-ended relationships? monogamous for sure. i wouldn’t handle an open-ended relationship well at all. Had sex with someone you knew less than an hour? not by choice. Are you happier single or in a relationship? i don’t know. my happiness isn’t determined by my relationship status. How many times a week do you shower? well, we don’t have hot water here so it depends when we can go to someone’s house and shower. Would you say that people consider you a major flirt? not even close. Name one of your hobbies? reading. i love to read. it is such a good way to get away from all the bullshit that is my life lately. A Work In Progress
My name is Jeanne Rachel Palmero Matubis, born on January 21, 1997 in Quezon City to Jacob and Rowena Matubis. I have three siblings of which I am second eldest. Firstborn is my brother Jethro Jake Matubis who is now twenty-one years old. I am twenty. I am currently studying at the University of the Philippines from which my brother graduated in Computer Science just last semester. Next is my younger brother John Jacob Matubis, sixteen and studying at the International Christian Academy. Lastly, my youngest sister is Janne Raquel Matubis who is fourteen years old and is now a 9th grader in The Master’s Academy.
Just like my sister, I studied in The Master’s Academy since pre-school all the way until high school. I was always a top student; I was the salutatorian in elementary and I graduated with honors in high school. I was an achiever both in academics and extra-curricular activities. I was elected auditor for the student council in Freshman year, secretary in Sophomore year, treasurer in junior year, and campaign manager in senior year. I enjoyed serving the student body but I only managed the campaigns of one of the running parties in senior year because I decided to focus on my studies. After all, I was already graduating.
Back at home, I am close to my family. My father is the breadwinner of the household. He is the ideal father because although he is quiet, he’s a patient, smart, and hardworking doctor. My mother is a very organized housewife. Both of them love and work hard for the family and I love them very much. I’m also close to my siblings. My eldest brother and I used to play video games back when we were young. Until now, he still likes video games and also playing the piano. He’s very smart and hardworking yet very cool. My little brother is an artist. He makes mods (short for “modifications”) for video games; these are alterations that change some aspect of a video game, such as how it looks or behaves. He also has a YouTube channel so you can tell he’s always on the computer. He’s very energetic, always singing and dancing with me. My little sister is the mature one. She’s smart, she fights for what she believes in. She has a seriously tough outer-shell but she’s sweet on the inside. She likes to watch anime, she’s creative, she draws, and writes. She has different nicknames for me; she calls me achi and pichi pichi. They sound silly but I love them.
As for my relatives, I’m not close with them at all because of the age gap. My cousins are all much older and already have their own families. Fortunately, I have one close cousin from my father’s side and another one from my mother’s side. They are Caira Louise Benwick and Justin Ira Jurado respectively. Caira is a small girl with chinky eyes and straight black hair. She is the eldest of her siblings and although she’s mature, she’s fun and nice to converse with. Ira is short as well and she’s an artist who inspires me to become more artistic. We bond through photoshoots and because of her, I became interested in anime and cosplaying. When I was young, I used to sleepover at her house so we’re quite close. They’re both older than me but I feel comfortable around them because I can be myself.
I am a born-again Christian and my church is CCF (Christ Commission Fellowship) in Alabang. Our aim is to proliferate the church, to make Christ-committed followers who will make Christ-committed followers as well. Every Sunday, I serve in Sunday School as a Sunday School teacher. It has been two years since I’ve begun teaching kinder-prep students. I am also a servant-leader of Elevate, a youth organization. We aim to help the youth get to know God and establish a relationship with Him and with the other members. I am currently the Games Head under the Events Ministry of Elevate.
I have many interests. I was a varsity player of table tennis in high school. I have an inclination for the arts so I like to paint sometimes with watercolor but I prefer acrylic. I like to be adventurous with my art; one day I’ll test the waters with soft pastels. I also like music. I like to sing and dance but I’m not particularly good at them. I can play the guitar and I want to learn how to play the piano. I skate using a cruiser board and I have two of them purchased from Big H Scate Co. Although that sounds tomboyish, I like to dress-up, especially on Sundays when I feel most girly. I like putting on eyeliner. I wear skirts and dresses, doll shoes, pastel colored clothes, and Korean fashion. I like watching Korean dramas but I also like Japanese anime. I like anime OST (original sound tracks), especially Studio Ghibili soundtracks. Those songs are so relaxing and they boost my productivity whenever I study. I am currently learning Japanese. However, I am not particularly an achiever in school but I want to do my best to finish college so I can help my family.
Speaking of college, my university life began in 2014. I am taking up Organizational because although I was undecided of my future, I was attracted to it. Now I believe this course will open a lot of opportunities for me after I graduate college. My favorite subjects so far were Humanities II, PE weightlifting, and Communication III. I just recently accomplished my internship at The Bellevue Manila where I worked under the Human Resources department and the Marketing Communication department. I was able to spearhead the training program for my fellow trainees from different departments. During my internship I gained friends but also weight (there was a buffet every day). I was also fortunate enough to be supervised by pretty and friendly bosses.
Moving on to my life outside the university or anything remotely close to that, I grabbed many opportunities. In 2015, I joined the Juicy Cologne pageant in 2015. I won as one of the eight brand ambassadors for the cologne and each winner represented a corresponding scent; mine was the Sprightly Sprinkle scent. I won that specific scent because I was the bubbliest and fun. In the process, I enjoyed participating in school events and mall shows, meeting a lot of students, and even reaching out to them. I was given the opportunity to organize my own outreach sponsored by Juicy Cologne and in partnership with Elevate Alabang. Here, we shared the gospel to children and donated forty electric fans to that public school.
In 2016, I started cosplaying. I’ve cosplayed as animes such as Kaori, Umaru, Nico Yazawa, Emilia, and Mario. I save up to buy costumes for my cosplans (cosplay plans) but sometimes I make them myself. I really enjoy going to the conventions and being part of the friendly and cool cosplay community. They are very supportive and photographers even invite me to model for them in photoshoots.
I am proudly NBSB (No Boyfriend Since Birth). I’ve had crushes of course and even flings, but they never worked out before. That doesn’t worry me because I believe God is still writing my love story. For now, I’m guarding my heart because I want my first boyfriend to be the last, to be my future husband. My ideal type of man is someone who is a chinito, tall, funny, and can bring me closer to the Lord. I want someone who will be able to lead our family to Christ.
I know that I may not be perfect. I am not the best steward of my time and there are opportunities that I miss out on because of my lack of confidence and initiative that’s why I am still prayerfully trying to correct these things by fixing my perspective in life. That is why when it comes to love, I don’t want to rush things, because I know that I still have a lot to work on in myself. For the mean time, I want to prepare myself so that I can become the best version of myself, while faithfully waiting and serving the Lord until He leads the man He has planned out for me. I believe that whoever that man is, God would give him the grace to patiently wait for me no matter how hard or how long it would take. I believe in love that can last for a lifetime and that it can last forever and that love can only come from God.
What I learned in life is that it is short and I want to make the most out of it. I’m shy but I like challenging myself to break out of my shell. Whenever an opportunity comes, I believe I should grab it, so my motto in life is to “Go for the butterflies.” Most of all I want my life to have purpose and that purpose is for God’s greater glory.
The future is still not clear for me. There are a lot of things that I want to do in my life before I die. I am not sure what profession I would like to have in the future, but one thing is for sure. I want to live a life wherein people would see the power and goodness of God. Even if I know that it is impossible, I want to pattern my life the way that Jesus lived His life in this world. With every move that I make, and every word that I say, I want it to glorify the Lord so that I would be able to radiate His love in my life for others to see that they may believe that Jesus saves and is alive forevermore. Before I die and spend eternity with my Lord Jesus Christ in heaven, I would like people to be able to see the epitaph written “A woman after God’s own heart” in my tombstone.
