A comprehensive thought dump by two idiots about MCD season 1 upon recent rewatch 9 years later.
Aphblr has lied to me.
for years I have been told that Jessica Bravura’s Minecraft diaries is the superior watch to her other main series Mystreet which is just simply untrue as of my rewatch of the series 9 years after watching it for the first time.
true to the art form and writing style popular at the time MCD is a jumbled mess of things just happening with no clear connection and in some cases direction.
so many wasted opportunities because we are put promptly into the perspective of Aphmau. A character with very little substance and is shaped by the characters around her rather than the characters own actions.
the most interesting characters and concepts remaining firmly in the background. Such as Dale and Molly’s struggle with their daughter being turned into a shadow knight.
Brian’s sudden and barely built up betrayal of his family.
Kiki’s daughter being Zane lets be so real that child is literally just Zianna 2.0 (oh but Madi she’s a werewolf! Idc Cope.)
to Logan and Donna’s love story.
Most characters in the for front don’t talk about there own trauma’s or really anything there feeling outside of there love feelings for or about Aphmau.
Even as the production value went up I find the most interesting arc is the pikoro arc. As it showed genuine comradely between our main characters and established a clear dynamic. Only for the Scaleswind war arc to completely ruin that by making Garroth lose all rational thinking and an extreme entitlement to Aphmau. Writing it as if Zane brainwashed it doesn’t make the uncomfortable and frustration go away.
Zane was a good villain, while motives are fairly unclear he had a genuine presence and had fairly smart well executed plans. (Ein is definitely not a better villain.)
Something that stuck out to me; was how much of the plot probably could’ve been solved with the poorly thought out magic system, specifically Kawaii-Chan.
Kawaii-Chan practices forbidden soul magic and is able to give inanimate objects a conscious. So Lion point out something interesting; couldn’t she just trap parts of the main characters soul in a doll and just, save them incase the worst happens? Imagine what she could do with relics.
Every time Lucinda is on screen I fear what comes out of her mouth. Because I’m just going to ask later “why can’t she just do this?”.
anyway here’s a list of our favorite characters in no particular order;
chicken shamen
Brendan
Logan
Yip
Donna
Katelyn

i figured out how to put WHY i hate marvel movies now into words!!! literally every marvel movie now is a preview for the next one, you can’t even enjoy the movie as a story on it’s own, b/c they don’t do that anymore!!
they’re always telling you what’s coming next, and if you miss THIS movie, the NEXT ONE could be cool, but you’ll have no idea what’s going on. it’s like they’re selling me chapters of the story but not the whole thing (yeah like comics but whatever).
logan, into the spiderverse, and the dark knight are all WIDELY considered to be the best superhero movies of all time, and the reason behind that is they focused on telling ONE single story!!
mcu movies try to connect an entire universe, set up the next movie (or multiple), AND tell their own story. you cannot pump out seven movies and tv shows that are all doing all that without losing heart in the story.
and doing all that while not communicating with any of your employees and blacklisting them and working them to death???? nah

I wanna talk about titles and names for things in my MCD au/rewrite
This may be long, you’ve been warned
First and foremost Lord Lady and Sir:
In my universe, it was generally uncommon (though not unheard of) for a woman to be the head of a village until Aphmau. If a woman was the head of a village she would be called Lady (her name) and never Lord (her name). Aphmau was the first woman to call herself Lord, and since then it became customary.
Though there are other reasons someone may be called “Lady”. If they are the wife of a Lord, a high or head knight/guard, or if they are someone of great importance. For example, Lady Katelyn the Firefist and Lady Azura of Bright Port. While Katelyn is a member of the Jury, Lady Katelyn the Firefist is her official title, but when she is stripped of her rank, that title is taken as well and she became just Katelyn. Azura being head guard of Bright Port gives her the title of Lady Azura.
And finally, Sir. Similarly to Lady, Sir is the title given to male head guards. While Garroth is head guard of Phoenix Drop, he is known as Sir Garroth of Phoenix Drop. While Laurance is head guard he is Sir Laurance Zvahl of Meteli. Though when he left for Phoenix Drop he lost that title. He still sometimes introduces himself as Sir Laurance by accident.
Next, Werewolves:
There are a few different kinds of werewolves: pure blood, half blood, and turned. Werewolf is the umbrella term used for any Lycan kind.
A pure blooded werewolf is also known as a Wolfer. These wolves do not have a human form, though they do have a human-like form (think how we usually see Bodolf or Lowell). They also have a pure wolf form or natural form, where they appear like a normal wolf, though slightly larger.
A half blooded werewolf is also known as a halfling wolf or halfling wolfer. These are werewolfs that are born of both werewolf blood and the blood of something else, be it a human, meif’wa, elf etc. These wolves have a pure wolf form, a pure human form, and the ability to show their wolf ears and tail while in their human form. Examples of halfling wolfers would be Yip and Leona.
And finally a turned werewolf is exactly how it sounds. A werewolf who was not born but rather turned. Their traits depend on what the wolf that turned them’s traits were. In Logan’s case, he was turned by a Wolfer, therefore has the traits of a wolfer along with a human form.
I also want to mention a bit about werewolf hierarchy.
Most werewolf villages are small and refer to themselves as tribes or packs, depending on if they are made up mostly of halfling wolfers or full wolfers respectively. Their leader is referred to as The Alpha or just Alpha. Never by their name unless it is someone they are very close to.
Finally Magicks Users, Witches, Warlocks, etc.
The term used for any type of magickal person is Magi. They are also sometimes referred to as Mystics, though this term is fairly outdated.
A magicks user is any person born with the ability to use magicks. Pretty simple. This does not include witches.
Witches are born witches, much like an elf is born an elf. It is a species not ability. Witches are born with a higher connection to the earth and have the ability to learn witchcraft rather easily, though they don’t all choose to. Witches are often female, but it is possible for a male to be a witch.
A mage is a person who is not born with any magicks or witchcraft. They give themselves Rune Tattoos and often Scar Runes, and teach themselves magicks. This often takes a very long time, so in some cultures (like Zerimar) they do this at birth so the child will grow up with the ability. Mages are outlawed in many places throughout Ru’aun.
A Shaman is a mage who teaches themselves magicks for religious purposes, usually under the faith of Irene or another Divine Warrior. In Castor, the Chicken Shaman’s case, it was under the faith of the chicken gods… or something… no one really knows..
A Demon is a bit blurry. Not much is known about them other than that they come from another realm and are often evil.
A Shadow Knight is anyone brought back to life (or in Laurance’s case transformed against his will) by the Shadow Lord in the Nether. A Shadow Knight that has not claimed their immortality is often referred to as a “premature” Shadow Knight.
A Divine Being is anyone with borderline unnatural magickal abilities, or anyone able to master both a magicks and witchcraft. They are believed to be either divine beings or divinely chosen.
And FINALLY, a Warlock is anyone who falls under any of these categories (aside from the last three) and uses their abilities solely for evil, their own selfish gain, and/or to deceive others.

Hi! Do you have recommendations for fics in which Charles is older than Erik?Extra kudos for Bottom!Charles
Thank you in advance, and thank you for all the amazing cherik fics esp the hooot porns :-))
Hi Anon! Sorry for the delay it's been a little crazy this week :D
I think the combination of older/bottom!Charles might be this fandom's unicorn lol. BUT these are all amazing fics with older Charles that I hope you enjoy!
Give me your stars to hold by pearl_o
Charles returns home from college and figures out why Erik has been so distant since he’s been away.
Counting Bodies like Sheep (To the Rhythm of War Drums) by cm (mumblemutter)
Erik was born broken, their father always told Charles.
Wind and Words by velvetcadence
Lord Charles of House Xavier has been out-manipulated by Queen Emma into a marriage with her cousin. Still, there are worse fates than having to wed a handsome child.
Casual Encounters by SharpestScalpel
Charles is a busy professor in his 30s - busy enough that a craigslist casual encounter is really the only way he's going to get laid any time soon.
Erik is a 19-year-old virgin with an internet connection and no social skills.
Letters for His Majesty by motleystitches (furius)
When Charles the Gentle, King of Westchester, was nineteen years old, he killed a man named Shaw and rescued a boy he gave to the MacTaggerts’ to raise. Twenty years later, he has almost forgotten the incident. With a wife he loves as a sister, no heir, and a war going badly, Charles falls quickly and inappropriately in love with the knight Erik Lehnsherr.
wait (they don’t love you like I love you)
Charles is a bad guy (head of some shady criminal organization) and Erik is the kid that grew up in his household (his mother is the help? so they maybe live in the servant’s quarters). Anyway Charles likes Erik a lot and assumes that when Erik grows up he will end up working for Charles (maybe he recognizes some violent streak of potential in Erik). Only then Erik decides, while Charles is away on some sort of shady business deal overseas, to go away to college. So obviously Charles has to go and drag Erik back because Erik is his and his alone.
David's Dad (Has Got it Going On) by afrocurl
Charles doesn't know what to do with the crush his son's best friend, Erik, has on him. At least not until Erik all but forces himself into Charles' lap one night.
An Arrangement of Soulmates by Fullmetalcarer
King Charles III of House Xavier gazed at the painting of his betrothed. Strong jaw, wide, thin lipped yet sensual mouth, straight nose, high cheekbones, intense grey-green eyes, short auburn hair.
tonight is all we need by Oxsa05
Erik has just come of age and soon will be trapped in an arranged marriage against his will. Before losing some of his freedom, he wants one night for himself so he can fulfill his true desires. Charles, an expert and famous prostitute, will make sure Erik has a lovely evening and forget about his troubles for a while, giving him everything he asks for.
Machine of a Heart by traumschwinge
Thirteen years ago, when he was just recovering from an incident during one of his deployments, Logan met Dr Charles Xavier. Dr Xavier, who'd just decided that Logan, while still unconscious, was perfect to try some physical improvements as a proof of concept for the large military project he was, back then, co-heading. Now, Logan's mostly a spy, tangled up in whatever mess Charles and his superiors think necessary to involve him with. It doesn't matter that Logan has feelings, about Charles' project, about Charles himself, about just altering other people's bodies without their consent. What'll matter soon, however, is stopping some harebrained weapons manufacturer from causing the consumption of the entire biomass on planet Earth.
twenty four hours from tulsa by intentation
After having self-emancipated (aka run away), Erik's been holing up in a shitty motel while he figures out his next step. When Charles Xavier moves into the room just down the hall, Erik discovers his new favorite pastime: sex.
Drunk Night, Sobering Days by issabella
Erik is drunk, naked - and standing in the kitchen of Charles Xavier.
Yet what comes easy to do and say while drunk to the gorgeous man with the blue eyes, seems suddenly filled with awkwardness the next morning. Erik feels like a fool though the proverbial silence is golden is not always the best advice, especially if one is quickly developing a crush.
How Prof. Shaw’s Grammar Nazi Ways Got Me Laid and Helped Me Find True Love by jasminetea
Charles is a professor. Erik is a student. They meet through Craigslist.

could u talk more abt kendalls catholic martyr complex? or like specifically how the martyr complex relates to catholicism (i have no religious knowledge :p) thank u!
ok so the roys being catholic is mentioned like 3 times in passing and it is the most important thing to me. so first of all like, yes there are martyrs of basically any religious or political affiliation and it's not an exclusively catholic idea. but catholics have like, a specific fixation on bodily suffering, original sin, and persecution. i mean jesus is the archetypal martyr. he was obviously also a messiah, which plenty of martyrs were not (because catholics like, do this shit all the time... it's honestly so embarrassing). but the reason catholic churches have so much imagery of him bleeding out in his death throes on the crucifix is because catholics have this obsession with suffering and dying because you were right. like it's kind of camp honestly. protestants also love to suffer but in a different way that's more connected to ideas of like, bourgeois productivity rather than cutting to the chase like catholics and just being like "i'm going to purify and transcend my body by getting shot with 9 bazillion arrows representing the plague" or some shit. i love it.
anyway so kendall's whole thing with having jesus imagery is like, he configures himself as the noble rebellious son, who opposes the forces of evil, shows courage and commits to his crusade, and is ultimately willing to die for his cause. the irony of course being that he is not willing to die for real and he leaves doddy drowning in a pond and his suicide attempts are very passive (which logan like, sees as pathetic). but the way kendall perceives himself is very much as this martyred hero. knights on horseback and whatever. and this is connected to how he loves to suffer because he thinks it proves him right and that one day he will redeem himself (because the martyr situation is also deeply related to catholic guilt) and everyone will see how awesome he is and heed his words and stand around his dead body saying what a good special boy he was all along. like kendall would look up at the giant bleeding jesus on the cross contorted in pain with his loincloth carefully arranged to preserve his modesty and be like "i wish that was me". he seeks out ways to suffer because he thinks taking on this type of burden is what will redeem him, ultimately leading to his total destruction (death or psychic death, ie total loganification) because this sort of self-immolation is the only purpose he can conceive of for himself.

Some fans really just make Barriss Offee's identity all about Ahsoka, when Barriss was de aged (she was originally a skilled knight around the same time as Anakin) and she was turned into a damn terrorist (fuck Filoni for that) to prop up Ahsoka's story.
Yeah for real. And she was a really cool character on her own! It's been years since I read the MedStar books or The Approaching Storm but I remember liking her and of course I enjoyed her and Luminara's scene of defending themselves in the Jedi Temple in the original Clone Wars. Also her and Luminara were a very clear example of Jedi allowing their members to have connections to their homeworld and home cultures - Mirialans are described as having a spiritual connection to/interpretation of the Force and it's quite telling imo that Barriss and Luminara are paired as master and student (presumably by mutual choice, as this was supposed to be the norm originally like in the Jedi Apprentice series, NOT how in TCW Ahsoka was randomly assigned to Anakin), so Barriss can learn from someone who is not only a Jedi but also of the same culture and belief system as her. But that doesn't fit Filoni's narrative of "Jedi have no attachments and are emotionless."
The terrorist thing is Bad when Barriss is a Muslim-coded character. This post explains better than I could, as the op is Muslim themselves. I've never watched that TCW arc (quit at Mortis in season 3 because it was so fucking stupid) and I am no expert on Islam but what I've heard secondhand via Tumblr osmosis really sets my This Ain't Right alarm bells off, especially since there is a LOT of Islamophobic comments and content here in America and I remember it being especially bad when the show was airing.
Obviously that's bad enough but combine with the fact that none of the clones look remotely like Temuera Morrison and have had their features whitewashed, the "main" clone Rex has also been made blond and further white-featured, Mandalorians were turned into majority White and Delightsome when previously their most famous "face" was a Māori man (also their traditional warrior culture has been forcibly converted into pacifism and anyone who doesn't agree is exiled), and now we have the Bad Batch which is even MORE white-washed than the original TCW clones to the point where a character who is supposed to be an exact duplicate of Jango is blond*..... Let's just say my This Is Sus sense is MAJORLY activated. One portrayal steeped in racist stereotypes is bad, but possibly a fluke. Unfortunately TCW has a pattern of it - and this is just what I've seen as someone who tries to avoid the show! - and it's not a good look for the show or its creators.
*"But his sister is blond!" Omega isn't a clone of Jango's sister, she's a clone - an exact duplicate - of Jango. She should look exactly like Daniel Logan and if she is going by she, either her or Jango and all of his other clones would have to be trans. Disney would never risk alienating the transphobes tho.

Smackdown 20/10/23
3 matches, a fake retirement and a return!
Tumblr media
This week's Smackdown had a good build up to Crown Jewel, but the show really lacked in the match department.
Firstly I want to talk about LA Knight. I recognize he's got charisma; he does a fine job on the mic and has a good look. What's missing for me is a connection. I don't know why I haven't connected with him yet, but I hope I do. There's no doubt he's losing to Roman Reigns, so this makes it harder to get invested in him. Tonight he verbally threatened Paul Heyman. This didn't lead to anything because Reigns was not on Smackdown.
Montez Ford and Santos Escobar had a fun match where both men shined nicely. Ford picked up the victory. Followed was a post-match beatdown with the save coming from Carlito.
The LWO had more on their plate tonight when Logan Paul called out Rey Mysterio. I want to take a moment to say I loved Rey's batman inspired mask. Logan oozes shithead heel. Everything he does makes me hate him; but in a good way. Logan informs us that he's already beaten Rey in the past and that he only wants to face him to take the United States Championship. Rey accepts Logan’s challenge at Crown Jewel.
Jimmy Uso appeared overly ecstatic due to costing Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, the tag team championships. This segment jumps to a real confusing moment as John Cena comes to the ring with a statistic. His last win as a singles competitor was 2002 days ago. That’s 2018. Cena decides to pull a Sting and mentions retirement. If you’ve seen Peacemaker, then you know Cena is a decent actor, so why is he phoning it in here? Cena is ramping his emotions up to a ten and it's not convincing. After doubting himself, Cena magically claims he still has it and calls out anyone to fight him. Solo Sikoa comes to the ring. Both brawl until Jimmy joins the fight. A masked man appears. And guess what? It’s Main Event Jey. The actions of both men leads to an argument between Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce. Aldis has Jey and Pearce escorted from the building. Pearce retorts with ‘’Let the games begin’’. WAR GAMES IS COMING!
I'm not going to bother talking about the tag match. It was short and pointless.
The main event saw Charlotte Flair versus Iso Sky for the Women's Championship. Both women put on a great performance. My only real criticism with the match was Flair audibly calling spots. The match ended with...you guessed it, a post match beatdown. But do not fret, Bianca Belair returns to make the save. All is well.
Good progression in stories, but matches suffered because of this which is a real shame.

My Highlights of WWE Summerslam 2023
Tumblr media
And it is the biggest party of the Summer
Unless you're in England where it was pouring with rain for most of the day.
Another big 5 PPV comes around for WWE, but let's see what I enjoyed from the show
Spoilers for the PPV
A miracle that Logan Paul changed his gear a little
Brock's swing over suplex was pretty cool
At least LA Knight won the Slim Pickings Battle Royal
Surprised Shayna won, since Ronda is expected to return to MMA, but the right woman went over in the long run
Finn's Seven mark on his injured shoulder
Seth back with the psychology though
Nice reversal of the Sling Blade into a Falcon Arrow
Callback barricade Buckle Bomb too
Nice nearfalls with Finn's Pedigree & Coup de Grace and Seth's Stomp
Priest looking 100% done
I'm at least taking the fact that Maxxine calling Miz a 'Mark' is a wink nudge
Charlotte wearing the 'Flair will lose' Red
450 onto the Figure 8 was great, I was worried Bianca was legit injured given the angle of the spot
Io cashes in on an injured Bianca to reignite the crowd
Dakota was here to celebrate a year from their debut
Steppenwolf are getting one hell of a royalties check from Born to be Wild being on loop this entire PPV
Crowd was all in for Main Event Jey
Black and White dichotomy as well in the gear
Nice narrative beat of "If you beat me, I give this to you" with the fancy red lei
I also realised at this point that my stream mercifully skipped all of Kid Rock
Conclusion
It may be that I'm exhausted from a lot of travel on Saturday (like it's been 11 hours of riding the train alone, and not a lot of sleep) but this show was just, ok?
I didn't really connect with the matches; Logan winning with brass knucks is meh, Cody of course babyfaced into a win which makes Brock look made of paper, LA Knight was winning a nothing match, MMA rules just didn't click for me, the triple threat was mainly an afterthought to a cash in and Asuka gets another poor and short title run, and Tribal Combat was a chug that hoped the twist would carry because they couldn't do a ref bump.
IC match and WHC match I was alright with but nothing blew me away. Such is such is.
Match of the Night: Seth vs Finn Best Attire: Seth Rollins obviously Best Performance: Finn Balor, he worked a lot of drama and technique in his match, especially calling back to their prior match Spot of the Night: Bianca's 450 on Charlotte's Figure Eight

I believe that Kendall would call Shiv a TERF in an argument as a gotcha and she would get very angry and defensive about how of course she considers herself to be an ally to trans people in some vague nebulous way, while Roman who does not know nor care what a TERF is keeps deliberately riling up both of them from the side for fun
Ok this is difficult because it really depends on the context that this gets brought up. Like, the way Shiv would respond depends on how the topic of trans people has made her think about her own gender. Shiv's relationship to womanhood is quite complicated and I do still think she doesn't not identify with it but, she also doesn't feel any strong connection to it either. She would see the social conditions of womanhood as imposed on her but, her womanhood proper as being unimportant; however, I think that she also thinks that womanhood isn't a choice you can make because the conditions imposed on her are misogynistic. There's no reason she'd choose that because it's obviously disadvantageous but, she also doesn't feel any desire or need to not be a woman. Really, I don't think she thinks very hard about this. If she thinks about it for more than like 10 minutes, the transphobia sets in, though.
Since I made that list, I've thought more about how transphobic each character would be and well, Kendall has more potential than I initially thought but, it really could go either way depending on the context. I'm mostly saying this because I remembered that weird comment he made about Roman jerking off in Rava's panties. It was pretty mean and he's lucky Roman didn't hear that but, it's obviously one of those things where Shiv and Kendall attempt to bond over not being "perverts" like Roman allegedly is. The interesting thing here is how Kendall frames Roman's perversion. Him saying that Roman gets off on feminising himself (not being forcefemmed by someone else) is... cutting it real fucking close. Kendall identifies Roman's perversion as being tied to his femininity but, he can't really understand what that means. So, it becomes that Roman fetishes his own femininity which obviously, isn't really true. Roman desires to be seen by others that way but he's not attracted to femininity itself.
I think Kendall doesn't understand the point of wanting to be wanted in that way despite subconsciously also wanting that to a significantly lesser degree. Like even outside of sexuality proper (though this is obviously tangentially related), Kendall sees himself more as being Daddy's Best Knight or whatever even though that's obviously still submissive. Kendall thinks this makes sense and if they didn't live in Logan's world, yeah it does. Roman, however, wants to be Daddy's Little Princess and that's a role that doesn't fucking exist so, it's kind of unthinkable to most of them. The Roys would probably all share the opinion that this hypothetical role is inherently degrading. Shiv is not that because in Logan's mind, she's basically an angel because to him, she's practically the metaphysical essence of purity (until she reminds him that she is a person with her own mind). Shiv doesn't have a body and her use isn't in her body either aside from some vague acknowledgement of her being a cis woman via being his Only Daughter. Roman's hypothetical use as Daddy's Little Princess would be (in a purely platonic aesthetic sense), at least in part. Logan, of course, would never ever subject any of his children to the horror of knowing your own body (even though conceiving them already did that). Logan would NOT call a child, let alone his OWN children, "cute" because he is NOT a sicko pervert nonce.

for some reason tumblr won't let me reply to comments but give me the kenstew thoroughbreds ideas 🤲🏼🤲🏼
YES YES YES i literally don't know why i'm just seeing this a month late but. yes.
key differences: there's the dynamic of uneven racial status between stewy and kendall that isn't present in thoroughbreds + i think amanda lacks(??? this is arguable) the level of self-preservation that is key to stewy's character.
i don't think stewy as he is in the show would be willing to take the fall if kendall actually killed logan. but a younger stewy? and a metaphorical killing? perhaps.
one of my favorite parts of thoroughbreds is that early scene when amanda is over at lily's house and they're watching a movie and mark (after establishing that lily's mom is out of the house) is trying to coerce lily into going upstairs (the deliberate ambiguity of that interaction is HAUNTING) and amanda deftly shuts him down in a master class in passive aggressive rich new englander dialogue
one of my favorite parts of succession is how stewy so effectively and entertainingly (to the audience) puts on a show of being unthreatened by logan (favorite line from s3: "i feel like i'm taking a shit in the guggenheim, y'all"). i think that show is a lot more poignant if you read him as actually being a bit scared of logan, deep down (see: him in s1 making kendall deliver the letter).
thinking about what it would mean to read amanda as actually being intimidated by mark, in that first scene, and standing up to protect lily anyways.
thinking about how amanda and stewy are both seen as the strong counterpart to lily and kendall, who are berated by their respective parents for being spoiled and incapable, and yet in the end lily and kendall are the ones who end up actually taking lives.
thinking about rich kids with blood on their hands and their knights in shining armor??? idk the two just feel very thematically connected

succession asoiaf au
Premise: Logan Roy is the long-term, conquering king of the seven kingdoms. He doesn’t think that any of his kids are worthy of inheriting his empire.
Logan and his band of lords seized the Seven Kingdoms from a dragonless Targaryen king. This king wasn’t a particularly “bad” king in the way that Aerys was, but he wasn’t beloved the way that Jaeherys and Alysanne were. The Realm made the transition away from having Targaryen kings a bit easier because despite Logan Roy’s many, many flaws, he’s a much more effective and hands-on leader than Robert Baratheon.
Ewan, Logan, and Rose Roy were born in Flint’s Finger, the grandsons and grandaughter and later nephews and niece of the Lord of House Flint. Their mother was the youngest of four children: a son who became lord and three daughters. Their mother was the youngest and the least “responsible” of the bunch. The eldest sister married a younger Stark son, the middle daughter married the heir to House Blackwood, and then their mother married… a hedge knight with a made-up surname. (It was only allowed because she confessed to already being pregnant and she was the last unwedded daughter and always…. Much slower than her sisters. No one they’d particularly want wandering around another court and embarrassing the family.)
She died in childbirth with Rose, and the husband disappeared into the ether. No one quite agrees on the circumstances of Sir Douglas Roy, but his presence is never reported again anywhere in the Seven Kingdoms. Their Uncle Noah Flint, Lord of The Fingers, takes them in. Not kindly, mind you, but he does. He has a pair of sons 15 and 13 years older than Ewan, so the presence of the three children doesn’t pose a threat. Still, Logan grows into quite the little stubborn, bossy, know-it-all who’s protective and fiery and very much a thorn in his uncle’s side.
That’s why Noah sends HIM away to “squire” at age 8 with border patrol. Logan spends a very long time fighting a very large amount of Ironborn and picking up on the idea of life itself as a fight. When he finally gets to go home to visit for a while, Rose gets greyscale and dies. It’s fairly unlikely that Rose got it from him, but Logan thinks that he gave it to her and Lord and Lady Flint do nothing to dissuade him of that idea.
As Logan and Ewan grow up and get knighted, Logan starts to decide that the only way to win in this world is to make it into a fight. He becomes a sellsword and an advisor, working his way through position after position and eventually getting himself married to the only daughter of a lord worried enough to gamble on the strong-man being enough to protect his fragile daughter’s claim to the keep in the future.
(I’ve decided on this keep being Rosby, due to its proximity to King’s Landing.) Logan does business in both Rosby and King’s Landing and is very displeased both with his “erratic” wife and the “weak” king on the iron throne. He gathers up his old guard and starts trying to make changes in King’s Landing in a way very akin to Daemon in hotd.
The Old Guard
Gerri- a born Hightower that married into House Bronzegate and is not very impressed with her husband or the current government. Gerri has extensive education from the Maesters and Maesters in training from the city and has continued wringing it out of different people along the way.
Hugo- an Arryn of Gulltown. He’s not particularly smart, but with his connections to the port and the Vale he’s a good asset.
Frank- one of the numerous sons of Lord Walder Frey that is twelfth in line for the seat. He’s still trying to shake off the indignities of growing up a Frey and find a way to utilize his background.
Karl- the third son of House Farman of Faircastle, looking for his own way to advance. His wife is a Bitterbridge, which gives the group yet
Stewy’s dad- the Prince of Dorne, a Martel of Sunspear. His sister was passed up for a marriage to the current king for the king’s own sister and he’s still seething about that. And of course has access to the port of Sunspear, the ire of the Dornish people, and their loyalty.
Ewan- a believer in justice and reforms. He is mobile and believes that maybe if they get a new group of people into the monarchy, Westeros can become better. He lends his brother his sword.
The key reasons for the successful coup were
1. Charisma and networking, both on Logan’s part and the rest of his gang
2. Hatred outweighing fear of the Targaryens at this point vs Logan Roy, nobody from the Fingers, taking on the world and winning. His propaganda image is very populist and puts into people’s heads the idea of him as a “People’s King”.
3. The strategic locations of their bases of power
4. Both of the elder Flint cousins perishing in the fight, leaving Ewan the closest in the line of succession to a major Northern hold
After securing the throne, Logan has his marriage annulled, leaves a maester with Connor to help teach him how to run a castle, and sets his sights on finding a suitable wife to produce real heirs to his new throne. Ewan fucks off back North once he realizes that Logan has no plans to make positive changes and Ewan can’t bully him into them either.
Caroline Tyrell is charming, cunning, cutting, and connected. It’s a deadly combination that makes for a fearsome queen. While the Tyrells are powerful enough that Logan can never risk outright divorcing Caroline or sending her away once they sour on each other, he CAN have many affairs and be terribly cruel to her, all while keeping her on the other side of the keep from the kids.
Kendall grows up with the assurance that he, someday, will be king. He is the oldest recognized son and that means that he’s going to be, right? Yes, he fostered in Dorne. Yes, he got married there in secret. Yes he and the oldest Martel son have made some… questionable choices regarding alcohol and drugs. Yes, he adopted a kid there and had one, but they’re legitimate because he did it legally, septon and everything! They had the wedding at Dragonstone, his super special keep that his dad gave him as the eldest son! It’s totally legit! His dad.. Is not impressed.
Roman spends most of his time bouncing from court to court, using his name and “staying in the good graces of the king” to extort lords for much longer, more luxurious stays than should be expected. He technically is the Prince of Summerhall but by god he’s not gonna put the work into getting that place up to snuff.
Shiv is down in Oldtown at the Citadel, trying to make headway on her proposal that the order of Maesters start accepting women. Tom, the son of a family of well educated merchants from the Reach, is pitching his own proposal that the Order create a privately funded branch to educate men unwilling to give up their titles and rights to marry. Their goals, seemingly, align. But Tom is a by the bootstraps littlefinger type, and he’s going to get his own share of whatever spoils are coming.
Connor, though not recognized as a legitimate claimant for the throne, has been granted his mother’s lands and title. He’s not a good lord, per say, but the city’s not falling apart under his rule at least. He IS hemorrhaging money and is a laughing stock among the local community.
While lots of lords seek to make their daughter Lady Rosby, none of them decide to follow through with it because Connor’s just. He’s Connor. Despite his connections to the crown, no one honestly wants him as their son-in-law and most end up worried that if Logan croaks, that will put their daughter and possible grandchildren in the line of fire.
Logan the First, recently, has been decrying the traditional rules of succession. The stance that he’s taking is that it should go to the most worthy options, like an Ironborn kingsmoot, but Connor has not so subtly been pushing his own claim to the throne as the eldest son. (In direct opposition to what Logan was actually saying the reasoning would be, with, you know. Rule of the Strongest)
This actually makes lords LESS likely to have him marry their daughters. Yes, there are power hungry lords in Westeros, but most of them are not so desperate as to side with this man over either of his more well-connected brothers.
Connor, however, is still on the hunt for someone who won’t leave him. Willa is a mediocre traveling singer from a poor family. She’s better compensated whenever she dabbles in sex work, but she’s really passionate about different types of art. Connor gives her a place to stay for a night in exchange for a song, and it all just spirals from there. He supports her artist endeavors and she tolerates his presence while everyone around them is mean to them both. It’s pretty much just like canon.
Logan, souring on the idea of Kendall on the Iron Throne, gives Roman a chance at being Hand to see if he could take over. He does about the same as he did in canon, with major assistance from Gerri. Shiv starts getting frustrated with the lack of progress that she’s making with the Maesters and how Roman’s been named Hand of the King. SHE could do a better job. SHE has all the skills needed for a job like that, right?
Tom encourages her idea that if she just were able to put her own hat in the ring, then she would win her father and the whole court over. With the combined power of their scheming, they leave Tom in charge of the Maester situation, and Tom makes a pitch for an engagement between the two of them. Shiv is initially hesitant due to *gestures to every tomshiv interaction ever* but with the combined power of “you DON’T want the suitors fighting over you and not seeing you as a real claimant” and “people like your dad because he’s a man of the people! I too, am just some guy :) so that means… they’d like me”
They don’t like Tom, but with new sway as the king’s future son-in-law, he’s able to push his OWN desires through, because they may threaten the fabric of Westerosi society, but they don’t empower women! That’s waaaaayyyy too dangerous. He’s able to push himself into administration in the Citadel and get his “no strings attached” chain forged within the time that Shiv’s gone.
When Shiv arrives back in King’s Landing after months in Oldtown, she comes bearing engagement announcements and desires to get into more of the “nitty gritty” of the politics here. Her father is very angry about the engagement, but glad to have her back in the fold. He even gives her her own role on the small council. It’s not Hand of the King, yet, but she’ll get there.
Right?
(She doesn’t.) She declares the date and time of her wedding to Tom to try to garner some public support. (That doesn’t work). Then, Tom finally makes his way to King’s Landing as the fiance of the Princess Siobhan.
For better or worse worse… this is at the same time as Gregory Flint. Greg made a very big mistake back home in the Fingers and Ewan was so sick of it he decided to send him to the Wall. Ewan said he wasn’t gonna make him take the vows, but he’d have to stay long enough that he COULD and then come back with an appreciation for life and justice and the privilege that he has.
Greg… doesn’t do that. Marianne gets him his own horse and sends him on a journey down to King’s Landing. He makes his way into the city and tries to force himself into the castle, but no one believes that he’s really the King’s nephew. He didn’t even have a carriage! The Flint symbol on his chest looks fake.
Tom finds him. He knows the name of Shiv’s only living cousin. He knows that he’s supposed to be tall and gangly and incredibly awkward, so when Tom’s making his merry way into the palace… he brings Greg with him. This becomes the start of All That ™.
Shiv has the ceremony (the city is starving) and introduces the new husband (everyone hates him, both nobles and peasants).
Then Tom goes back to the Citadel as a lord with a cursory title, a princess for a wife, the King’s nephew as an assistant, and he has even more sway than he did just a bit ago. Something goes terribly wrong in his marriage with Shiv, but not so badly that the pair of them can’t work it out for the sake of their titles, of course.
Roman keeps playing his own tricks. Shiv disrupts an attempt a unionization attempt by the city’s sex workers on her dad’s orders, but she and Roman both come up dry.
Kendall finally shows his face back in the city, and tries to win back some points. It doesn’t work, and it’s not winning him any points down in Dorne either. Stewy wants him to give up his claim to the throne and come home to Dorne already. Rava, instead of agreeing to come with him and bring the kids, refuses to leave for King’s Landing. “It’s dangerous, Ken! Your father’s never liked me or the kids, and he won’t promise that you’ll be king. Can you even imagine what might happen to the children and I?” But he does it anyway, and he makes some bad choices that get a kid killed and don’t impress his dad. (Rava, Sophie, and Iverson, at least, remain at Sunspear. Kendall doesn’t ever forgive Stewy for that.)
And Logan keeps shifting the favor until he decides that none of them can do it, and starts talks with an Essosi warlord, one who’s been claiming that once Logan is dead and the country descends into chaos he’ll take it and make it whole again.
None of the siblings are exactly trustworthy, and a nation already primed for populism is likely to think that a warlord who made his own empire is a better choice than the past king’s failkids.
The kids try their hardest, eventually even uniting against their father’s attempts to give the country to a foreign warlord, and they of course can’t keep a united front. Kendall won’t consider the idea of one of the others sitting the throne, Roman throws himself back onto his father’s mercy (firing Gerri from the small council and destroying that relationship), and Shiv offers to help Mattson get the Iron Throne if she’s the one who gets to sit it.Connor sits out of it.
But Ken and Rome fight and Shiv schemes, and Mattson decides that her weird little fake-Maester husband will work better for his purposes than she will. After all, Westeros has never had a ruling queen that lived to tell the tale before.
So after Logan’s death, the septons crown Lukas Mattson King of the Andals, the Rhynar and the First Men, with a nobody merchant’s son married to a deposed princess serving as Regent and Protector of the Realm. He has allies from high places in the Citadel, allies on the small council, and a wife who knows her history well enough to know what happened to Queen Rhaenyra. (She’s going to make it work. She IS, she is, she is-)
Kendall flees to Dorne but is not greeted by his wife and children. Rava’s already taken them and fled to Braavos, which is not part of Mattson’s Essosi Empire. Stewy just tells him that they left in the middle of the night and gave him no information about their departure. He doesn’t want to give his unstable friend any information to go searching for them. Instead of sailing on a ship to Braavos, Stewy finds that Kendall drowned himself in the Sunspear pool. His heart aches, and he wonders what he could have done differently.
Roman finds himself back at the bottom of a bottle, trying to find a warm place to land that won’t put him in danger of getting on the new regime’s bad side. He has no friends or allies, and he can’t see the point of trying to get them. It was bullshit anyway. Dad never wanted any of them to have it, even though it’s all they ever knew. They weren’t bootstraps knights’ kids from the Fingers: they were Princes and a Princess, and he always hated them for that.

I rest on Virgil's head
"You wanna sit down for a moment?"
I look over at Logan and Janus
"Also yea we could hear noises from the pictures and even some what feel the emotions from the pictures"
Virgil blushes but settles on the edge of the bed.
"Fascinating... I wonder if it is due to your natural connection to the deeper psyche of creatures capable of complex thought," Logan muttered, though his eyes flashed to the young knight a few times.

Hello! I feel like I’ve seen a lot of fics/fic recs where Erik is Charles’ older sibling or parental figure, but do you have any fic recs where it’s the other way around? I remember reading a teacher/student fic a while ago where Charles gets railed by his student so am looking for something sort of similar?
Hi Anon - here are some fics I love where Charles is the older sibling/parental figure/older authority figure. Be sure to check the tags and I hope you enjoy them!!!
Give me your stars to hold by pearl_o
Charles returns home from college and figures out why Erik has been so distant since he's been away.
David's Dad (Has Got it Going On) by afrocurl
Charles doesn't know what to do with the crush his son's best friend, Erik, has on him. At least not until Erik all but forces himself into Charles' lap one night.
Heavily inspired by Deus Ex (Logan), Halo (Erik) and Horizon: Zero Dawn (The world)
wait (they don't love you like I love you) by Anon (kinkmeme)
Prompt: Charles is a bad guy (head of some shady criminal organization) and Erik is the kid that grew up in his household (his mother is the help? so they maybe live in the servant's quarters).
Student/Teacher Relations by PoorMedea
As a TA, Charles knows he can't get involved in all his students' lives. He needs to keep professional boundaries, to make sure that he's an authority figure. But when he accidentally finds out how complicated Erik Lehnsherr's home life is, he suddenly finds that distance hard to maintain.
How Prof. Shaw's Grammar Nazi Ways Got Me Laid and Helped Me Find True Love by jasminetea
Charles is a professor. Erik is a student. They meet through Craigslist.

pls share abt pugh and pew...
okay this is so fucking half-baked but like.... ewan we presume is a lapsed catholic like logan. but logan talks about morality as something he experienced as a younger man (couldn't even take his shirt off) or as something for other people to worry about (life's not knights on horseback). whereas for ewan, he's obviously morally bankrupt and hypocritical, and he lives off logan's money, but he's also invested in the idea of himself as Righteous in a way logan isn't. which makes me think 1) the catholic guilt got ewan better than it got logan and/or 2) ewan has catholic brainpoisoning and can't express his anger at his brother thru any language besides church-style morality talk.
so like. his lawyer-slash-friend's name is roger pugh. which is pronounced like pew. like a church pew. and this is the guy ewan wants to produce some kind of damning legal exposé about capitalism. and also the guy that ewan angrily defends after greg abandons him and goes with waystar's legal counsel. so like. this is a stretch but...... ewan and logan both lack a real moral centre, having left the church. logan makes up for it by just declaring that morality doesn't matter, money is the Only Thing, and might is right. ewan otoh is more disturbed by his inability to perceive himself as righteous, and this is partly why he goes after logan's ethical failings so often. so if we accept that roger pugh = roger pew, it's like ewan's trying to elevate his blood feud and vague anti-capitalist ideology into a replacement for the church teachings he no longer feels connected to. like this crusade against logan and waystar is functioning as a religious crusade; whereas the roy sibs deify logan, ewan sees his brother as a false idol and worships his own god. in his mind, waystar needs to be saved or destroyed, and spiritual purification comes about thru anti-capitalism.
you made a neat post once about roman as the passive sufferer who seeks absolution, versus kendall as the martyr who seeks self-destruction: two different ways to be people who were Raised Under The Auspices Of The Catholic Church. i kind of think logan and ewan are two more flavours of this: logan presenting himself as the nihilist, whose rabid accumulation of capital defies and deconstucts the old church teachings, versus ewan, who sees himself as a crusader bringing righteousness to his wicked and spiritually unmoored family. ofc logan and ewan both consider themselves to be morally justified (or at least Excused), which makes them different from kendall and roman, who are both constantly seeking suffering.
but yeah the way this show is about pissing and shitting and generational trauma, but also it's about the way catholicism lives in your head rent-free forever and becomes the only way you can express any conflict with yourself or your loved ones. and greg not getting that, and roger pugh as a key piece of ewan's latest moral crusade. and the way ewan truly does see himself as being more moral than his family, even as he's living off logan's money and using greg's inheritance to try to control him. because as long as ewan can assimilate those actions into his overall quest to reform his family, no coercion or anger is disproportionate. he's doing the right thing, he's bringing god's word down the mountain (or like.... from canada down to his americanised brother, which..... is funny as a missionary thing) and so when greg leaves pugh, in ewan's mind it's literally profanation. "you don't take him for a fucking ride anywhere" lmao
