WIP Wednesday - Get Unvampire'd Idiot!!!
Thanks for tagging me @serenpedac and @crownleys !
After seeing this ask from Mishka about the various reactions of Unit Bravo to being turned human for a day, I couldn't resist throwing some words around about it.
***
There’s a soft, subtle boom in the distance, followed by a gentle rumble under their feet. Kira and Nat grab at one another on reflex.
“Wasn’t Barbie doing some sort of experimentation?” Nat asks, voice strained.
“Let’s go,” Kira says, already marching forward. As they go, Kira keeps waiting for Nat to dart off ahead of her. As much as it irks her to acknowledge, she’s not nearly as fast as a vampire. When Nat doesn’t do this, she chalks it up to her wanting to stick with Kira. It’s not until Nat starts to lag behind that she thinks twice about any of it.
She slows to a stop, turning and looking back at Nat. She’s come to a stop as well, staring at her hands with furrowed brows.
“Nat?” Kira asks, concerned.
“I feel strange,” Nat says, twisting her hands around to look at the back, then back over to examine her palms.
“Strange how?” Kira asks, jogging the few steps it takes to reach Nat. She takes Nat’s wrists and looks up into her face. Nat looks like Nat. Same beautiful features, same warm brown eyes.
Nat scrutinizes her wrist, then gasps gently. When Kira looks down, a thin blue symbol has begun to appear on Nat’s skin, glowing faintly as it winds around itself before settling in against her skin.
“What is that?” Kira asks, unable to stop looking at it. Nat bends low enough over it that Nat’s hair tickles Kira’s nose.
“A sigil,” Nat breathes.
“What does it mean?”
“I have not a clue,” Nat says, more mystified than worried. Kira does not share her feelings on that, and tries to rub the symbol away with her thumb. It doesn’t budge.
“Do you feel unwell?” Kira asks. Nat shakes her head.
“No, I feel alright.” Nat pulls away and tugs her sleeve back down to cover the symbol. She smiles encouragingly. “Come on. We should go check on Barbie. This can wait.”
Worry sticks to the back of Kira’s neck like a leech, but if Nat’s mostly okay, then she can fuss all she wants once she’s sure that Barbie hasn’t blown herself up.
The training room is where they find Ava, sitting hunched over on one of the benches, head in her hands while Barbie hovers close, rubbing her back. Kira immediately looks for anything out of place, but there’s no missing limbs, piles of blood, or smoking crates in the ground. That’s promising, she thinks.
“What happened?” Kira asks as she and Nat approach. Ava’s entire body jolts, startled, and she whips her head up to look at them. She’s pale (even for her) and more terrified than Kira can ever remember seeing her.
“I made…a mistake,” Barbie says, her expression suggesting that the words themselves are painful. Groaning, Ava pinches the bridge of her nose.
“She’s turned me human,” Ava says.
“What?!” Kira and Nat cry out at the same time. Rushing forward, Kira looks Ava over again, looking for anything that looks less-vampiric about her. From tip to toe though, she looks just the same as ever.
Lips pursed so hard they’re just a thin, white line, Barbie reaches out, takes Ava’s hand, and flips it over to show them the inside of her wrist. Another glowing blue sigil with twisting blue lines.

I think Jason would have loved Terry, if only for the absolute verbal onslaught he gave to Joker. Like i really wish he could have seen that
YES! I’m still bummed that btas basically turned Tim Drake into Jason because 1) it robbed us of BTAS!Jason, 2) Tim Drake has a good backstory, he didn’t need to have it swapped for Jason’s, and 3) it robbed us of Batman Beyond Jay!
Let us all imagine that Jason was able to see from um…a very secret future-tech surveillance bug.
