Something I don’t understand is how the majority of bylers were somehow fully tricked into believing that the Duffers actually forgot Will’s birthday, even despite the heaps of evidence that says otherwise..?
This lie was intended for the ga (Reddit, homophobes, those in denial, people not willing to look behind the curtain), who can now cling to this whenever they’re confronted with evidence of byler.
“None of that is proof. Don’t you know the Duffer Brothers forgot Will’s birthday?? You’re seriously reaching. It’s not that deep.”
They NEED this to keep the majority of GA away from figuring out the truth before the reveal. Because this curtain would open the curtain behind that curtain and they couldn’t let that happen. Because Will’s birthday being forgotten is going to be central to his arc in season 5, and not only that but also most likely central to Mike’s realization arc as well.
This whole dilemma just reminds me an awful lot of a specific scene from Stranger Things 2… and the irony that is the Duffer brothers out here giggling as they manage to convince 99.99% of their audience that they don’t rewatch their show, making a point to specifically say they don’t remember the last time they rewatched s2….
Like how can u be a byler and believe that shit??????

that entire scene of billy being taken can literally be interpreted as a metaphorical rape scene. he's dragged downstairs by his ankles to an abandoned basement in the middle of nowhere while he's thrashing and screaming for help. the mindflayer holds him down and enters his mouth while he continues to struggle. when he's free, he runs away to his car and drives off to the nearest phone booth because he's terrified that it's following him.
he doesn't know what to tell the 911 operator, would they believe him? it all seemed very unrealistic. he has flashbacks and starts dissociating, replaying the scene in his mind, specifically the scene when it enters his mouth. and then he's faced with himself. the other billy represents the side of him that feeds his degrading emotions.
this is literally a metaphorical rape scene i don't know what to tell y'all. the way will's kidnapping can also be interpreted as a child predator holding a child hostage and violating him. joyce's initial thoughts must've been that her son was kidnapped by a sick person. and the fact that they found will unconscious with something forced in his mouth?? metaphorical assault scene.
and billy's shower scene? the black veins represent the phantom touches and pain left behind by his rapist. he's showering because he wants it off him but it's not going away. he's starting to dissociate and the memories are hitting him full force again.
do the duffers realize this connection? the show would be outstanding if they acknowledged the general theme of vecna/the MF representing an abuser/rapist who specifically targets troubled children because they're easier to manipulate.

hey do u think it would be funny if dustin’s “do you need to be told everything?” line was a (not very) subtle jab at the parts of the audience who refuse to acknowledge the referential and visual and otherwise non-specific details of the show that paint its more complex picture in favor of only focusing on what’s explicitly stated in the script? bc i think that would be funny

Something that I think about but don't really see discussed: if Nancy & Jonathan don't end up together, how would that impact Joyce? She already feels like she hasn't been able to do right by Jonathan. She has been waiting for his Emerson letter, she'll be crushed when she realizes that he is not planning to go (especially his reasoning). So if she realizes that the distance from the move contributed to him losing Nancy on top of all of that? Joyce's arc to me has been about starting with this broken home and rebuilding it into something strong (Hopper's too ofc), and her kids going on to thrive in life would be a part of that for her. I cannot imagine that they would end things for Joyce with her feeling like one of her decisions ended up permanently costing Jonathan his love, especially when her own story led her to hers (ps: I don't blame Joyce for the move or for Jonathan's struggles, I'm just thinking about the blame that Joyce would place on herself and what it would mean for her thematically).
I honestly think the Joyce-Jonathan relationship tangentially aligned with Jancy is going to be of critical importance in setting Jonathan free from his nightmare cycle. I agree with all you have listed here and instead of typing out all my long-winded thoughts, I have complied a set that I believe makes the same argument:

Honestly, for me the biggest piece of byler proof will always be the fact that the duffers never had to write their story this way. Like, forget everything in the lighting and the cinematography for a second and just think about the fact that the Duffers never had to make any of the narrative choices that they did in s4. They've proved with other characters and couples that they can write redemption arcs well, and that if they wanted to make midleven's arc better, they could. They could have made the conscious decision to put effort into making midleven a good, healthy couple, and use s4 to build them towards a satisfying finale- but what did they use s4 for? Oh, yeah, an entire gay cross-country road trip plotline that only made the existence of byler and the cracks in Mike and El's relationship even more obvious. Like, it would be one thing to try and fix their issues and doing it in a bad, forced way, but this wasn't that. This was the duffers deliberately undermining Mike and El's relationship all while building up byler in a series of narrative choices that seems so deliberate it's impossible for them to just be that bad at their jobs. Everything about it seems so perfect that I just can't believe the duffers didn't plan it. The number one symptom of bad writing is that it doesn't make sense, that things just feel like they were thrown in and tacked onto the story for no reason, but this doesn't just feel like bad writing because everything about it is perfectly planned. The duffers could have stopped it if they wanted to, but they kept going, and now all we can do is wait for s5 endgame.

that interview where finn talked about the mileven love confession scene just took me backwards again,, i’m convinced that the duffers are simply just not as great as i thought and that they simply just ruined Mike‘s character for no reason, passed on the chance of making El strong on her own and not depend on her boyfriend, and decided to just let Will suffer even more.

I need to pick the duffer brothers brains. What did they intend for Mike to do with Will in that room before they got interrupted.
