thank you for the reply to the fic ask! now id like to know some of your thoughts on the adaptation process, if youd like to share them 👀
my pleasure! i love talking about writing :)
i don't really have thoughts about adaptation as a process, specifically, but i have a lot of thoughts about what makes the end result successful (and some very strong opinions about people being wrong on the internet about how adaptations are supposed to work).
the easiest place to start is that i view adaptation a lot like i view fan fiction. the point--for me--is to continue a conversation with the source material. the difference is that, for adaptation, i think if you're not doing this, you're doing something fairly objectively wrong, while for fic, it's just likely not something i'm interested in. adaptation needs to simultaneously be different enough from the source material to be it's own new thing and still actively engage with the original piece of media.
point for point plot accuracy does not make a good adaptation (i would go so far as to say that usually makes a bad adaptation). getting all of the characters "right"/accurate doesn't make a good adaptation (although you can go too far with this, and it's deeply frustrating to get the vibe that the author would rather be doing their own thing than adapting something). what's important to me is getting the sense that the adaptor really deeply engaged with and thought about the source material and is continuing a conversation about its themes. the themes don't even have to be the same; they just need to be in concert. like, thinking about the witcher, what they chose to focus on is maybe not, across the board, what i would have chosen, but it's internally coherent and makes sense, and, i think, demonstrates a better understanding of the books than a lot of what i have come to understand is in the games.
adaptations also really need to understand the differences between the source medium and the medium they're adapting to, and play to that mediums strengths and accept it's weaknesses. for example, i really don't like how shadowy lemony snicket is in the movie adaptation. it's so important that we feel a sense of intimacy with him, and not seeing his face feels very distancing. i like how they handled that in the netflix show much better. (however, i do think it would be really interesting if you never saw lemony, and the role was entirely voice over. i think that could create a different sense of intimacy. and also has the potential to be quite funny. (i'm thinking of the narrator in arrested development as a vague guide for what this would be like)) also at least for me, the pacing of a book and something on screen needs to be fundamentally different to be enjoyable.
anyway, an adaptation needs to have a point. like, the witcher is lauren and the writing staff going, "what if we restructured this as event television and made yennefer a co-lead from the beginning, instead of an antagonist like she is in the short stories and the first two novels?" and, like it or not, it's easy to see how most of the changes they made follow from that. they have plenty of time to fuck it up, but they have a thesis and are showing admirable committed to it. the worst thing you can do, especially in a serialized adaptation, is to make changes and back away from their consequences. i think yennefer, ciri, and jaskier in season 2 of the witcher are really good examples of this going well, and most of the major problems with season 3 of a series of unfortunate events are a result of dropping the ball on this. the problem is not that it's different; its that it doesn't hold together within its own thematic and plot continuity.
things are allowed to be different, but it's a problem when they are less. i still think the worst adaptation decision the witcher show made was what they did with the doppler. they have a very coherent thematic, and deeply subversive, point in the short story they are in, and the show erases that and replaces it with something entirely lacking in depth.
i mean this in the most "you're entitled to your own opinion" way possible, but people who want to see a plot accurate screen adaptation of things are wrong. there has to be a point. visually seeing the contents of a book does not justify an adaptation. (however, i do really really really want a full cast audio drama of the witcher. that would be so cool. and some day i'm going to listen to the lord of the rings audio books that andy serkis did, cause that is, apparently, basically what that is.)
hopefully that was somewhat interesting, and, of course, it is just my opinion!

#1 - the last summer
hi guys! im excited to finally share some of my writing on my tumblr. this one i wrote back in february of this year and it’s a personal one. i hope you enjoy it, and of course, if you have any suggestions of things i could work on, im open to anything. im 15 and ive been creative writing for years and years, but im still young so anywhere i could improve id like to work on. alright, here is The Last Summer.
A sunny Saturday in June and the birds were still singing their song as I drove south down the rocky path to Nana and Pa’s house. In the car with me, my mother and father. Mom was filled with hope and love, she was hoping that the treatments would work, and that the cancer would vanish, but the past few months would say different. There were five clouds painted on the otherwise blue horizon behind my grandparents house as we pulled our pearly white Volkswagen into the long, winding driveway.
Pulling open the front door made a creek noise, which was a signal for my grandparents to shout, “Hey!”, and they did, just like every time. A rush of cold air hit my face walking into their house, and it smelled of May’s early dandelions. I was greeted by the usual five kisses from Nana, and a bear hug from Pa. Only this time, he was bald, and to give me that warm hug that was so distinct I could never forget it even if I tried, he had to let go of his walker. It looked like the one the old man uses from the Disney movie, “Up”, and it was so unusual, it upset me. I never pictured him as an old man, although he was my grandpa.
Back in his youth, my grandpa was good with his hands, building sheds, houses, and other smaller things. He used to climb trees,go swimming, things young people do. However, these activities weren’t something he stopped doing back twenty years ago. He was doing that type of stuff up until the diagnosis, a few months previous. When he was hospitalized, I knew that things were never going to be the same. He’d tell me,
“Kate, you just have to be tough sometimes.”
He was released in early June, but it didn’t mean he was getting any better.
July was different. Mom had her birthday that month. He was there, but not in good shape. He almost reminded me of a narcoleptic. He was just so weak, and he wasn’t hiding it, if he was stronger I’m sure he would’ve but the state he was in made it impossible for him to disregard the pain he was enduring. “Mom, should I wake up Pa? We are gonna blow out the candles soon, Dad has the cake ready.” I asked her. But she replied with, “No, Kate. Just let him rest. We will do it without him.” I know deep down she wanted to wake him up for that minute and have him stand by her side as we sang the song. But she was his daughter, and she wanted him to rest and get better.  And so Mom blew out the candles on her fortieth birthday without her father by her side. I was naive back then, I didn’t really understand what happens when someone dies. Up until those months I had never experienced death. It’s scary, sad, but most of all, it’s painful. Nana and Pa left the party early to drive back to their house, so he could get more rest.
The next week, Mom drove me to their house so I could stay the weekend there. I never minded staying at my grandparents house. It was beautiful, large and cozy. I got there and put my bags in the sunflower themed guest room upstairs, the green walls reminded me of summers when the window was open, with the cool breeze rushing into the room that smelt of the sea. “Kate, come down here for a minute!” I heard Nana shout. I rushed downstairs to find her in the kitchen, stirring a bowl of who-knows-what. She said, “Go help Pa in the garage, I’m sure he would enjoy your help and company.” She shot me a little smile as I nodded yes. I opened the door to the garage and there he was, in a wheelchair, working on this old 1940’s Chevy truck. The body of the truck was all rusty blue, but painting it was forever out of the question for him, he liked the look of the original paint from almost eighty years ago. He heard me open the door, and he spun around his chair so he could see me.
“Hey Kate! What do you need?” He said when he saw my face.
I replied with, “Nothing, I was just wondering if you needed any help.”
He smiled and accepted my assistance. He showed me what he was working on, and that when he is in the chair, he can’t get inside the truck to test the engine. So, that was my job, turning the key every so often and fetching him tools that were up on shelves he couldn’t reach. It made me happy that I got to spend some time with him. Unfortunately, it was the last time I spent with him like that. I never ruined the memory, tainting it with the ugly stigma of the last real bonding moment between him and I. I just had to stay positive through all of it, and remember the good times rather than the bad.
August was the last time I saw him. My grandpa was a summer type of guy. When my grandparents retired from their jobs, they built their dream home on this quiet street with a creek at the end for their boat. I remember it like she never moved away after he was gone, like I still went there every summer for a few weeks, like I still rode in the boat and got splashed by the salty water that was always so cold, but felt so nice on your face on a hot August afternoon. Those things were part of my childhood, and I would never forget them.
Mom and I opened the front door to my grandparents house in the middle of August. We were greeted with a, “Hey!” from Nana, but not from Pa. It was noon on a breezy Sunday when he shuffled out of his bedroom. He looked oddly frail since I saw him last on that weekend in July. He was paler, skinnier, and visibly worse in his condition. Nana helped him sit down at the table with all of us so we could enjoy the doughnuts Mom and I had brought over from his favorite bakery. He was just acting strange, like something wasn’t right. He was talking about random things, and couldn’t focus on the conversation. It was off for sure, and after our doughnuts, Mom and I decided to leave the house. We got in the car, and drove back down the long driveway, as Nana and Pa waved down from the porch. I rolled down my window and yelled, “I love you!”, and Pa grinned showing his teeth and yelled it back. That August day was the last time I saw him.
September brought tears to our family. I didn’t cry when I heard the news, just stared at my father who broke the news to me, wondering how this could’ve happened. There is no bright side to death, its tragic mostly always. I just remembered to be strong, and not remember that summer as a bad one, because it was his last one. Rather remember it as a good one, filled with memories. Just like any other summer that I’ve had at their house. If there was a time in the six months after his passing when I was feeling particularly sad about him no longer being with me, I had to remember,
“Kate, you just have to be tough sometimes.”
Once I thought about that, I was always able to keep my cool and hold back my tears. Summer was his favorite season, and as it came to a close, there he was, doing the same.
The memories brought me back to days in June with blue skies and hummingbirds. The memories brought me back to July, filled with birthday cake and elbow grease. These memories brought me back to August, with doughnuts and the last “I love you”, but that was just the last one said. There was so many more thought in my head and I’m sure there was some in his too, even if it wasn’t as sharp as it used to be. These memories I have all bring me back to September when I saw my first dead body laying in a room, on a bed with a roof. But the good times reign over the bad in so many ways. The memories I chose to remember and travel back to in the fake world of happiness in everyone's mind said that I needed to be tough. And so, I was.

TVD 1x08 Review
Hi all! Welcome to the eighth review of TVD season 1. Considering that I haven’t like sat down to watch a full episode of the past seasons of TVD in a few years and my memory might not be the greatest I think I will start with my usual disclaimer: I write my thoughts in real time so if I make a mistake at the beginning of this post, it will be corrected by the end. There will be anti-Damon and anti-Delena sentiments (I’m only mentioning these two because it’s the beginning of the series), and in light of recent events I feel the need to say that there may be some anti-Jenna sentiments too. I will probably bring up other shows and call attention to misogynoir, racism, anti-blackness etc. Also I do not have MS Word right now so I wrote this on Kingsoft, which is eh, so some of the formatting might be off. Ready? Let’s go.
1. Lexi trolling Stefan is still such a great entrance and I like it because it’s still very cinematic, the show uses the dark shadows, the intense music, we actually see how old the Salvatore Boarding house is because of the wide shots. Season 1 TVD was really cinematic and the show should’ve kept that aesthetic.
2. And I didn’t realize this before but Stefan actually feels 17 years old with Lexi? It’s not just that he’s giddy around her but he actually feels like a teenager.
3. “Come on, let’s go, I mean what’s keeping you here?” “Her name is Elena.” Seriously, it’s been iterated and reiterated that Stefan can’t leave town because of Elena --- in the finale, he could’ve gone with Caroline and Alaric etc. but he stays, well they say he stays because he won’t leave Damon because Damon won’t leave Elena but the fact remains Elena’s at the root of why he’ll stay and she’s the last person he sees before “moving on”; not to mention, he’s about to go soul-searching in 8x14 but Damon asks him to stay because Cade has Elena so Stefan does; in season 5 Katherine says that he keeps wanting to leave “this one horse town” but stays because of Elena while in season 3 he decides to stay because Elena turned into a vampire and she chose him.
4. I still never understood why Lexi couldn’t just find a witch somewhere and ask them to make her a daylight ring? She’s been alive for how long?
5. Well at least Jenna escorts them to the police station. Half a point.
6. Elena. Stefan. You guys know where’s not a good place to talk about the fact that you were lying to the police? Outside of the police station.
7. “Around you people get hurt and people die” um, Elena, it’s not Stefan’s fault that Damon is a homicidal douchebag.
8. I really, thoroughly, in my bones hate that they made Damon and Lexi sleep together in the 70s. That insertion was unnecessary and disgusting and I feel like the writers need to understand that women can be around Damon and not end up fucking him.
9. It’s funny, one of the Jenna-defending anons was saying how Jenna is better than Kelly and Bonnie’s parents but that anon is actually incorrect because we simply don’t see Bonnie’s father until season 4 but he’s been around in season 11, she leaves Grams’ place because “Dad doesn’t like it when I stay over too long” and they joke about how he’s always right, so he’s actually involved in Bonnie’s life but the show just doesn’t let us see it.
10. I kind of also really want Bonnie’s butterfly earrings.
11. My friend really hated that Jenna only jokes about Jeremy doing homework because she was like, if my brother was drinking and pill-popping and spiralling and then suddenly was doing homework and being productive then I would worry about manic depression with extreme highs and lows.
12. The Council is actually useless.
13. Did Kat not have tattoos in season 1 or did the show actually put effort into covering them up?
14. I like how Bonnie has to make it up to Elena that she’s been MIA when she’s going through her 30 second break-up with Stefan but when Grams dies, it becomes about Elena’s confusion over Isobel and Elena is terrible at being there for her.
15. Oh look, Damon compelling Caroline some more when Caroline specifically told him to stay away from her but ah yes, that wasn’t an abusive relationship.
16. But to that anon who asked if Stefan should’ve done more to protect Caroline, let’s rehash what happened --- Stefan finds out that Damon has been feeding from Caroline in 1x03, in 1x04 he spikes her drink to take Damon down, in 1x05 Damon is in the cellar and he tells Caroline that Damon is never coming back and then Damon breaks out of the cellar and kills all the druggies and almost kills Vicki, in 1x06 he tells Stefan that those deaths are on him since he starved Damon but then he turns Vicki so Stefan is dealing with that through until 1x07 and a little into 1x08 since he has to cover up what happened in 1x07. He was a little busy.
17. “See this isn’t about sex or compulsion or any of our other tricks, she has to want to be with me on her own terms.” And people want to argue that SE is an abusive relationship?
18. But Lexi didn’t even warm up the blood though. In True Blood and BTVS they warm up blood in microwaves all the time.
19. “I prefer mine at 98.6″ at least they reference that Damon prefers warm blood but like what vampire wouldn’t? Y’all don’t have a microwave?
20. The way Stefan defends Elena to Lexi is with so much heart and so much conviction, like he even touches his gut when he says “On the inside they’re completely different”, like he LOVES her.
21. I also like how Elena opens the door and sees Stefan and she’s smiling but she’s trying to be standoffish so she’s trying not to smile as she says, “What are you doing here?” It isn’t working, Elena.
22. And that smile she has when he assures her nothing romantic ever happened between him and Lexi. Girl, just stop fighting it.
23. Bah their gazes are too much.
24. I really do love that Stefan keeps trying to make Matt understand that he was trying to help Vicki and it’s not for brownie points from Elena, he just wanted Matt to understand his intentions were good ones.
25. Seriously, Damon tears down Caroline so much and what’s even more awful is that uncompelled she legit wants nothing to do with him, she’s like I’m done being your little slave girl so then he compelled her compliance so this is compelled Caroline being like I’m so good to you and I’d do anything and he tears her down by calling her useless, stupid and shallow so he essentially compels her just to tear her down again so she has to rebuild constantly.
26. The way Stefan dances is the way I dance, like nah guys, I’ma be in the corner, just yeahh no.
27. I mean, Lexi, you don’t have ID though?
28. “Towel girl”, really Elena, that was lame.
29. I know a lot of people love “When it’s real, you can’t walk away” but I always loved, “I’m scared.” “But you’re here, because you’re crazy about him” because I think that speaks to SE so much, like whatever fear they may have, fear of being happy, fear of seeing each other’s darkest aspects, fear of the supernatural, they’re always next to each other despite that because they’re so in love.
30. Lol all of SE’s longing gazes.
31. “Are those curly fries?” lol Candice’s delivery was on point, also I really do think Mattoline could be sweet.
32. Damon legit killed Lexi on Stefan’s birthday. Like Stefan’s one and only friend for his entire vampiric existence dies on his birthday. Lexi came into town for ONE day and Damon just HAD to fuck it up. He legit could’ve just used Vicki’s body.
33. Like Damon does the MOST in these episodes and in 1x09 he goes even further by trying to kill Bonnie and they expect me to believe that Elena would be comfortable with him in 1x11? IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE especially, ESPECIALLY since they actually hardly spend any time together throughout these episodes.
34. Also no one saw what happened outside?
35. “He’s never going to change, Elena!” Ha, how true those words are.
36. Although Stefan actually seems pretty calm about Lexi, considering.
Thanks for reading!

Episode 7: I feel personally victimized - Luke
Tumblr media Tumblr media
why are they abaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
also steffen or drew will win this season bookmark this.
I can't Beloeve
Tumblr media
So glad to be back in the game! The amount of shock in the chat was awesome! Hahah I'm just glad I didn't get eliminated without receiving a single vote. Although I know I'll get one now!
Tumblr media
First of all I feel personally victimized by the hosts for allowing people to come back. Next I feel personally victimized because Darian came back and he has reason to target me!!! Going forward I'm trusting Drew the most because I love him so much :) Ashley, Steffen and Jordan are also strong allies of mine. I want to target Darian next and then I want either Brian, Lily or Andrew out. Jordan should leave fairly soon too because he's a big threat and that means betraying him but I need to do what I need to do to win.
Tumblr media
So I got some kick ass items at auction today. I got a Wildfire, which can reset a round and make all of our challenge results null so we have to do them over. I also got a ride on a dragon thanks to Steffen, even though we don't know about it yet. He got to choose two others to take with him and chose Drew and I, which I really awesome because I am starting to like Steffen a lot. Hopefully we can get closer in the upcoming days. I also got a turkey leg, which gives me an advantage in a challenge up to final five, so that is pretty chill too.
Tumblr media
Darian and Lily coming back????? UGLY!!!! KEEP THEM!!!!!!!! But also like I'm rebelling more against the fact of HAVING two people come back than the reality of who they are. If two people were going to come back, they’re DECENT choices because at least they both like me? But they come with their own vendettas against other people I like and it’s a PROBLEMMMMMMM. Darian coming back means the tension between him and Luke is gonna come to a head sooner rather than later. And Lily wants to take out both Andrew and Steffen QUICK because of reasons. Meanwhile WHAT EXACTLY HAS MY ASS BEEN DOING???? Aligning with almost every damn person in the game! Jordan specifically said “i feel like were aligned with too many people at this point. Like we need to actually get on a side” and my internal monologue is laughing because I think I’m connected to even more than he is because I’m with Steffen too????
1. Me Ashley Jordan Darian  2. Me Ashley Luke Steffen 3. Me Ashley Andrew  4. Me Ashley Andrew Luke Jordan 5. Me Jordan Lily
I’m about one second away from starting one with Brian and Nic just for shits. And THEY’RE ALL FUCKING TARGETING EACH OTHER!!!! Luke and Steffen bonded on call over wanting Darian gone and have brought up Jordan’s name, Jordan and Lily want Steffen gone, Lily is PUSHING for Andrew to go and Jordan and I can only keep her at bay for so long, and LITERALLY NO ONE IS BRINGING UP BRIAN AND NIC TO GO like I’m about to upset a whole group of people really quickly. I think my best course of action right now, if Ashley would be open to it, would be to blindside Darian right the fuck back out. I need to convince Jordan that our five-person alliance (listed above as #4) is the most important thing in the world right now because it’s numbers after this vote. It’s also another alliance that I have with both Ashley and Jordan so if they’re on board for the Darian blindside, then we can do it without pissing anyone off. Except Darian but I mean whatever, it’s not like I have to see him at high school the next day (sorry Ashley!!!). And it keeps Luke happy, and I’m all about keeping Luke happy. And it might convince Brian and Nic that we’d go for Lily next and just cleanse the field, and honestly that’d be nice too.
This is my dream boot list, at least for now (subject to like 18,000 revisions so like take it with the entire container of salt that for some reason is a current Snapchat filter with the Morton’s wig and umbrella)
10th place: Darian, with the consent of Ashley and Jordan  9th place: Brian because whew comp strength  8th place: Steffen because I don’t know that I can hold Jordan and Lily off any longer on that one 7th place: Nic, to, in the words of Lord Voldemort, kill the spare 6th place: Andrew because he might not see it coming at that time? The kid has been to the Citadel so fucking much, I can’t 5th place and beyond I don’t fucking know yet??? That’s a really tough position to be in because everyone in that final five would potentially want to work to the end with me but they’re all also threats to win. Ashley has been a main co-conspirator since the very beginning for me, but walks in with at least Darian’s vote almost pre-destined. Jordan and I work well together and his reputation often works against him, but I honestly think this isn’t the jury that would hold that against him like Costa Rica did, and he would have Ben’s vote almost pre-destined. Lily’s story could go either way, in that she’d been voted out twice, she doesn’t deserve to win, or that she’s fought back in twice and made it to the end. Especially if people like Steffen and Jordan are on jury, that’s going to really resonate with them as people who have won buybacks and almost won with them before. Luke probably has the least amount of connections from that potential jury pool, but has a great story of being the only foreigner and needing to adapt to our schedules, staying up until 4-5am every night to participate with us when we’re at our most available. Steffen would really respond to that, having played seasons from Norway and understanding the struggle. Honestly I could end up with the worst case to present in any configuration of that five, but I’ll worry about that as we get closer because I think that’s the configuration that best LEADS to me getting to finals. I can argue my way through a lot of things, and if I lose, I lose, I’d be happy losing to any of them. This might be the strongest social game I’ve ever had?? Or I could be wildly delusional and other people have just as many chats with just as many leads and I don’t factor into anyone’s final plans. We’ll see, I guess
Pray for me, it’s gonna be a fucking bumpy ride.
Tumblr media
So Steffen, Drew and I's dragon ride ended with me getting a vote revealer, Drew getting an advantage in a challenge of his choosing, and Steffen got a vote stealer. We all agreed to it and are now in a semi alliance. So this should be interesting.
Tumblr media
So I won immunity yay :) Sam got mad at me cause she spent a long time making that challenge and I beat it in 8 minutes so i felt bad and decided to make an actual confessional. Shocking right? Anyways even if I didnt have immunity I think Im in a good spot? like okay, so i have a lot of alliances. I have one with Andrew Drew Luke and Ashley, one with Drew Ashley and Darien, One with Lily and Drew and then i sort of have an alliance with Nic. Meaning I am not aligned with Steffen, meaning ideally Steffen goes. lily told me she has the power to take away someones immunity so thats good that thats on my side. Either way, things are good for Jordan. First confessional done, dont expect another
Tumblr media
me to jordan yesterday: lets vote out steffen lily to me today: i was thinking steffen for next tribal
ok sooo i do think steffen is a big threat and could win but i feel bad about voting him out cause im not invested in this game and idk if he is but he could win so i feel guilty if i vote him out and stay over him r . i. o. p. in peace
well well wel......... this is perfect. darian came to me wanting to blindside a threat so i said drew and now he's doing all the work to get drew sent home :o i spoke to steffen abotu it and hes good and darians gonna try to get andrew/brian/ashley so hopefully that works.
i have a really good feeling where this is the episode where my edit goes from INV to MOR3
Tumblr media
HONESTLYYYYYYYYYYY disregard the boot list, scrap it, move on from it, delete the confessional, it NEVER. HAPPENED.
Tumblr media
Lily has gone to Drew, Jordan, Darian and Ashley to try and get me out. Ashley and Darian came clean to me about it and now we’re sorting stuff out now.  darian thing lets him see a random alliance chat don’t like it. Lily is after me, then Brian, then Andrew. Drew has an idol from the citadel so now we’re strategizing. trying to spill that Luke wanted Brian gone. Lily has Drew and Jordan but only Jordan. Nic has to vote Drew. Drew might have to self vote Brian has to vote lily Andrew will vote lily Darian votes Drew Steffen votes lily Ashley votes lily Lily votes SteffenJordan votes Steffen Luke votes TBA
so Luke came to me with Jordan tea about how now Jordan is voting me out well good job Lily I officially say you can choke now [17:46:00] Luke: So do we know what's happening yet?
[17:46:08] Jordan (Westeros): no one is talking [17:46:19] Jordan (Westeros): if i didn’t have immunity id be freaking out [17:47:15] Luke: That's why I'm freaking out!! [17:47:23] Jordan (Westeros): i want to target steffen tbh [17:49:39] Luke: Oh wow really? You think that could work? [17:49:49] Jordan (Westeros): i think we could potentially get the voes [17:49:51] Jordan (Westeros): votes
So screw you Lily, and Jordan next time you go behind my back, be a little more creative you little toad and as soon as Jordan tried to get me to vote out Andrew IM LIKE SURE but then sent those receipts to andrew also I might now have Luke voting out Lily
[11/30/16, 6:42:48 PM] Brian: [2016-11-30, 11:38:39 AM] Brian: have you heard anything about the vote today? [2016-11-30, 12:19:23 PM] Lily Owen: Yeah, people are planning on Steffen [11/30/16, 6:42:59 PM] Steffen Bøhn: oh yeah [11/30/16, 6:42:59 PM] Brian: [2016-11-30, 6:42:13 PM] Brian: so idk [2016-11-30, 6:42:13 PM] Jordan Pines: no one has said it to me [2016-11-30, 6:42:17 PM] Jordan Pines: ive heard steffen so far [2016-11-30, 6:42:22 PM] Jordan Pines: and i think thats where I’m leaning
I GOT BRIAN SENDING ME SHIT NOW AW HELL YAS
Tumblr media
So I am terrified for this upcoming tribal. Some shit is going to go down. After the auction there are so many items in this game that I can't even keep my head straight.
So Darian got approached by Lily, who said she wanted to get Steffen out. She had this whole hit list and whatnot, and stupidly told Darian a lot of crap. So basically he comes to me and tells me everything. So now we are working with Steffen to try and find a solution... Hopefully all of this stuff is true, because if not, who the hell knows who is leaving tonight.

Alzarri Joseph: The family man who made it
ALZARRI JOSEPH INTERVIEW

Shortly after Alzarri Joseph had taken 6 for 12 on IPL debut for Mumbai Indians last year, a reporter asked him why he doesn’t show much emotion when he gets a wicket. A little grin usually does the trick. Maybe a small fist bump. No Imran Tahir histrionics. Sometimes you wouldn’t even know he has just got someone out.
“I don’t really celebrate wickets,” Joseph replied to the reporter. “I celebrate wins.” It was a revealing answer.
There has been plenty of hype surrounding Joseph since he burst onto the scene as part of West Indies’ Under-19 World Cup-winning squad four years ago. A Test debut followed soon after, accompanied by a heavy dose of expectation. After all, the next great West Indian fast-bowler is long overdue. It would have been easy, then, to get carried away with all the compliments and the accolades, but Joseph’s priorities have remained very much down to earth: family, community and team. Wins, not wickets.
That Joseph is one of the most exciting fast-bowling talents in world cricket is not in doubt. He has all the right attributes. Genuine pace, steep bounce from his 6′ 4″ frame, lovely shape away from the right-hander. He has an action to die for, simultaneously smooth and explosive. He has already displayed significant improvement during his short career and there’s no reason to think there isn’t more to come. If he can stay fit and stay hungry, who knows how much he might achieve?
Although it took a little while for Joseph to realise it, he was always destined to play for the West Indies, at least according to his grandmother, Eileen. “I remember my grandmother telling me she always knew that the next person from Antigua to play for the West Indies was going to be me,” Joseph tells Fame Dubai. “She was really happy when she got the opportunity to see that.”
Eileen is a huge cricket fan and used to tell Joseph bedtime stories about the greats of West Indian and Antiguan cricket, Richards, Roberts and Ambrose. Both his late mother, Sharon, and his father, Alva, played cricket. Growing up in All Saints, a town smack bang in the middle of the island, cricket was a constant in his life. “I would never miss a game in Antigua once it’s being played,” Joseph says. “I would always be in the stands watching.” Moreover, he would wake up at 3AM to watch Dale Steyn bowl for South Africa, trying to pick up some tips from his idol.
In addition to cricket, the importance of family has been a constant theme of Joseph’s life too. His mother passed away last February, on the second day of the second Test against England. Sharon had been ill for some time, but that didn’t make it any less of a shock. Joseph chose to play on, picking up vital wickets on the third day. Although he was wrecked by grief, he still wanted to be out there, doing his Mum proud. His captain, Jason Holder, dedicated the West Indies’ series win to Sharon.
The grief is still there, of course; a daily challenge. Understandably, it’s still tough to talk about, so the topic is avoided in conversation. However, when Joseph dons the maroon cap of the West Indies, thoughts of Sharon, and his family, are never far away. “My family is one of my biggest motivations because they are always behind me,” Joseph says. “They look up to me to always do my best and represent them well. When I am playing, I am not just playing for myself; I represent my family, my country and the whole West Indies.”
“When I am playing, I am not just playing for myself; I represent my family, my country and the whole West Indies.”
Joseph started out playing for Empire CC, the club where his father played, but returned to play for his local club in All Saints after a couple of seasons. “I decided I wanted to play for my village and represent my community,” he says. “That’s just something you always want to do, represent where you are from.” He didn’t really take cricket seriously until he was 14 or so and only realised he might have a talent for the game when he was playing Under-17s for the Leeward Islands.
“I was bowling pretty quick and started to put in some really hard work,” he says. “I was like, ‘Ok this could really be my calling’. I decided I was going to put in some extra work, I’m really going to take this cricket seriously. It was a pretty quick jump for me. From the start of taking cricket seriously at 14 to playing Test cricket at 19, it was just something that you would never think is possible in such a short period of time.”
Winston Benjamin, the former West Indian fast bowler, played a key role in Joseph’s rise. When he started to work with Benjamin, Joseph used to run up from 35 yards, jump really high and hurl the ball down the other end. “Wherever it went, it went.” He could swing the ball but did not know how to control it. Benjamin helped Joseph make changes to his run-up, wrist position and delivery stride. It took time but the improvement was substantial. “He really put everything together to what you see now which is my bowling action,” Joseph says.
Joseph was a key part of the West Indies’ Under-19 World Cup-winning side in 2016, taking 13 wickets at 13.76 with an economy rate of 3.31. He was too quick and too good. Joseph’s performances prompted Ian Bishop to call for his immediate inclusion in the senior squad and six months later, as a 19-year-old, he made his Test debut, against India in St Lucia. He wasted little time making his presence felt. In his third over in Test cricket, a quick, spiteful ball reared up sharply at Virat Kohli, who could only fend to first slip. “It was a fairly good delivery,” Joseph says, as if dismissing one of the world’s best at 19 was an everyday occurrence.
He has only played nine Tests since then, partly as a result of injuries – he suffered a stress fracture of the back at the end of 2017 and then dislocated his shoulder during last year’s IPL – and partly because it took him time to adapt to the demands of Test cricket. He played one match on West Indies’ last tour of England, the day/night Test at Edgbaston, registering figures of 0 for 109 from 22 overs. He was quick but erratic and was consequently dropped for the rest of the series.
The bowler England encountered 18 months later, however, was much improved. Coming on first change, instead of taking the ball as he had done in all his previous appearances, Joseph was still quick, still able to swing the ball and still aggressive, but with the control and accuracy, he had lacked in Birmingham. He took 10 wickets at 23.80 as West Indies reclaimed the Wisden Trophy.
“It’s a lot harder than I expected,” he says of Test cricket. “You have to go through different conditions, play against different types of players. Sometimes you come across a batsman that’s playing really well so while you’re in a condition that suits you, you still don’t get the success that you really want. It’s a tough game, it’s a patient game. I had to learn some patience after my first couple of games. But it’s a challenge and that’s just what the job is.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play Test cricket for the West Indies. Ever since I started to play that’s been my goal. That was and still is my favourite format. I don’t think you can get any higher than Test cricket so this was where I always wanted to be. This is the form that I love playing because I get to show all my abilities to the world.”
“I don’t think you can get any higher than Test cricket so this was where I always wanted to be.”
Joseph hasn’t played Test cricket since that series against England in the Caribbean. The West Indies have only played three Tests in that time and the injury Joseph suffered at last year’s IPL ruled him out of two of them. He has impressed in ODI cricket of late, though, picking up 24 wickets in his last 12 matches and West Indies coach Phil Simmons has spoken highly of his developing maturity and consistency. He will hope to transfer that form to the Test arena in next month’s series against England.
There is a lovely photo of Joseph and his mother, taken at the airport in Antigua after he arrived home from that Under-19 World Cup. He has his arm wrapped around her, pulling her close to him, with a wide grin and happy eyes. Sharon, too, is smiling from ear to ear, her pride and happiness evident. Representing his family, his community and his team, her son had done her proud. He continues to do just that.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Preview: Predicted lineups, match facts, odds and more
This is without a doubt one of the most anticipated Premier League matches of the season.
Love was never lost between Arsenal and Tottenham and this Sunday collision at the Emirates Stadium is guaranteed to make the pulse beat faster.
teams come to the game that needs a win after slipping last weekend – Arsenal fell 3-1 in Liverpool while Spurs at home suffered a surprise against Newcastle United . .
Neither team wants to give anything away and it could be a game of paper-thin margins.
It was an afternoon to forget Tottenham as they were beaten at home by Newcastle United
ARSENAL: Time for the Gunners to make a statement against a top six rival
The understandable dizziness surrounding Arsenal's summer transfer activities received a sobering reality check loss of 3-1 last Saturday in Liverpool.
Although there were times in Anfield when Liverpool seemed to be rattling by the speed and threat of Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they were comfortable second best overall.
The moment of madness committed by David Luiz leading Mohamed Salah who scored Liverpool's second goal, has only confirmed the worst fears of Arsenal's supporters.
Unai Emery chose to extract the positive points in his post-match analysis, but it is clear that the gunners remain significantly shorter than the caliber of Liverpool.
David Luiz had an afternoon to forget when Arsenal crashed into a 3-1 defeat in Liverpool last week
The most accurate measure of where they return to the Champions League next season will encounter their bitterest rivals.
Luiz has often played against Tottenham for Chelsea, but any kind of foul will put pressure on his place in the team.
For the likes of Pepe and Dani Ceballos, the blood and thunder of a North London derby may be different from anything they have ever experienced.
Ultimately, Tottenham only finished one point above Arsenal in the Premier League last season
Another season spent in Spurs' rear-view mirrors is simply not acceptable, but the mood in the Emirates after their summer is that their trajectory points up again
Making a statement with a victory in Sunday's derby would confirm that.
£ 72m signing Nicolas Pepe gets his first preview of North London derby on Sunday
TOTTENHAM: Question Marks Stay While Pochettino's Men Try to Maintain Progress
While Mauricio Pochettino tries to help Tottenham move forward after several seasons of clear progress, there are more questions than answers in the opening of the season
Worrying for the Argentinian is that they have fallen behind in all three of their Premier League opening games.
The good news is that in the opening game against Aston Villa they fought back to win and in the second game they took a point from Manchester City, something that should never be sniffed at.
Son Heung-min couldn't prevent Spurs from going home to defeat Newcastle
But their resilience left them the surprise defeat of last weekend at home in Newcastle when they did not seem to be asking for an answer when they were asked to break down resolute and deep opponents.
Spurs is now at the top of the table long enough to understand that most teams take a defensive stance against them and usually have the means to break them down.
But the spark was lacking in Newcastle and Pochettino's task of ensure that the wt is a bump on the road instead of something alarming.
Despite the inherent tension, playing Arsenal must fit Spurs because there is more room to exploit in the counterattack.
The concern for the neutral player is that defeat in Sunday's game will lead to two weeks of solemn contemplation during the international break and therefore the teams can be reluctant to go full throttle and leave themselves open.
Meetings between Arsenal and Tottenham are usually spicy occasions with tackles flying in
Predicted line ups
Arsenal XI predicted: Leno; Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, David Luiz, Monreal; Xhaka, Ceballos, Guendouzi; Pepe, Lacazette, Aubameyang
Tottenham predicted XI: Lloris; Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Sissoko, Winks, Ndombele, Eriksen; Kane, Son
What do the bookmakers say?
Arsenal costs around 13/10 to get one over their North London rivals, while you get 2/1 on Spurs to get away from the Emirates with victory. The draw is 5/2, while an interesting draw is a 2-2 draw on 9/1.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the strong favorite as the first goal scorer on 7/2, with Harry Kane 4 from Tottenham / 1.
Who says what?
[1945902] Arsenal manager Unai Emery: & # 39; For us to play games like last week against Liverpool, this week against Tottenham, the two Champions League finalists are great, and it's the best test, "he said.
" Every time is a good time to play against them and on Sundays with our supporters it is the best time to play and enjoy with our supporters.
& # 39; On Sunday, that game is the best football game in the world for all football supporters. & # 39;
Mauricio Pochettino rejected the theory that he is ready to stop Tottenham. He said: & # 39; I am not going to run away after the Derby in North London. I'll be here Monday and Tuesday. Then my plan is to travel, but I'm not telling you where. & # 39;

These days, fashion designers are transforming traditional pearl accessories into trendy must-haves for millennials. No longer are icons like Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and Coco Chanel the faces of pearl jewelry.
The gems are being repurposed to create more daring looks for the newer generation. And, they’re using them to create all kinds of fashionable pieces, from headbands to biker boots, from sunglasses to handbags.

Millennials & Pearls: The Greatest Transition of All
For ages, pearls have carried a bad rap. They had a reputation for being traditional and conservative, much like your grandmother’s pearls.
But, the designers of today have taken to their labs to give the gemstones a much tougher image. They envision of life where the coolest, hippest women wear pearl jewelry and other accessories adorned with pearls.
There was a time when a fine, white strand of cultured pearls implied a lady’s rite of passage into womanhood for upper-class young ladies. Oftentimes, these well-brought up “girls in pearls” were featured in upscale magazines wearing simple pearl jewelry.
Royalty & Girls and Pearls
These magnificent gemstones have also been regarded as trophies that represent excess or simple symbols of virginity. Over time, many fashion icons have been captured wearing pearls for the world to see, from Barbara Hutton to Cleopatra, from Queen Elizabeth I to Rihanna, and from Jackie Kennedy-Onassis to Kim Kardashian.
Kim Kardashian wearing Jackie O’s world famous sunglasses.
There are so many age-old folktales related to girls in pearls. Queen Cleopatra is said to have sacrificed one of her enormously huge pearl earrings as a gesture of irreverence. Legend has it that she melted it in wine vinegar. Then, the queen drank the gem right in front of Mark Antony.
This was done in an effort to show just how wealthy Egypt was at the time.
And, it seems today, designers use that same sense of irreverence to transform the gems into millennial treasures and statement pieces. They’re adding pearls to everything from stilettos to jeans jackets, from pants suits to pearl headphones… and everything in between.
Fashion Designers Creating Pearl Looks for Millennials
British fashion designer and couturier Alexander McQueen is a prime example. He caters to the trends for millennials by creating tailored, precision-cut dresses that combine masculine-looking fabrics with pearls. He even designed fashion-forward macabre skull clutch bags that feature pearls and other gemstones.
British footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood has jumped on the millennials and pearls trend as well. He’s been decorating his fashionable shoes and booths with the gems ever since 2010.
The Annabel is a biker boot with a high heel. It comes with a hidden large pearl under the boot’s arch to offset the tread sole made of tough rubber. Kirkwood’s boot series includes designs featuring pearls inside the heels.

Gina is a luxury brand that jumped on the idea of toning down the masculinity of its black leather brogues by trimming the footwear with pearls. Designer Stuart Weitzman took that idea even further with his line of black leather loafers. These school-marmish style shoes feature pearls on each toe.
Then, there’s Carvela, who chose to take the millennials and pearls twist a bit higher. As part of the Kurt Geiger brand, this designer’s black Birkenstocks are trimmed with black velvet, as well as very big lustrous pearls.
Raf Simons tackled the trend from a sportier angle. His collection features Dior scuba shoes and trainers decorated with pearls and various other jewels. Then, there’s the brands of Tory Burch and Aquazzura whose collections feature velvet and embroidered pearls.
Pearl Accessory Designs for Millennials
And, it’s not just about clothing when it comes to pearls for millennials. These gemstones have been jazzing up clutch bags and nightwear shoes for quite a while now. Two classic examples are Jimmy Choo and Roger Vivier.
But, in the last couple of seasons, designers have tried to tone down pearl designs, so they’re not just about luxury. Designs are not just quirkier, they more about irony than ever before in the past. Miu Miu and Prada are two prime examples.

In 2015, Alessandro Michele arrived at Gucci. This led to a new trend that was deemed “granny chic” in the fashion world. The collection including images of the gems that were new and refreshing. He styled his catwalk models in pearl accessories, including pearl necklaces and shoes trimmed in pearls.
Franco Moschino, the iconoclastic designers, historically mocked pearls. He did this by creating parodies of some world-famous looks. Back in the late 1980s, Moschino took Coco Chanel’s two-piece tweed suit, and trimmed in with pearls.
Pearl Collections… Yesterday & Today
Using pearls to create awesome fashion pieces and accessories is not a new trend. But, with the way designers are rethinking ways to adorn pearls, there’s no wonder the gems are being taken to new heights for millennials.
Andrew Gin, for example, has a bags and boots collection that feature humungous sized pearls. There are also those fabulous, tribal-looking earrings featuring exaggerated tassels.
Karl Lagerfeld Melissa Pearl Shoes. Image Source: imgrum
Chanel took the lustrous gems and placed them on knitted grey headbands. This allows the pearl accessories to be fitting for everyday wear for millennials. And, for added glam, they pin pearl brooches onto tweed bags and the wrist areas of knitted arm-warmers.
Karl Lagerfeld understands no one wants to sport their grandmother’s pearls. So, the designer took to finding fresh, new ways to wear pearls, updating the signature look Chanel pearl gear. He’s been known to use ping-pong ball size pearls as cuffs and earrings, to embellish driving gloves in silver hues.
Coco Chanel was the very first iconic designer to have a flippant attitude towards pearls. Raised in late 1890s France, the gemstones were representation of a luxurious world she could only envision from afar. So, she took to designing parodies of some of the greatest pearl necklaces in upper society.
Real Pearls VS Faux Pearls
By the 1930s, Chanel had started entirely new trend… mixing real pearls and gems with faux pearls and other gemstones. Duke of Westminster, her lover, eventually gave her pearls as gifts. Although gorgeous, the yards of real gems never stopped Chanel from playing around with fake pearl varieties.
Check out Kanye West’s pearl jeans jacket designed just for millennials just like him. Kim Kardashian’s gem encrusted dress is amazing too.
For some reason, Coco Chanel’s desire to dabble in faux pearls made some of her innovations very controversial. But, she didn’t care. The famous designer still featured them numerous times during her fabulous career.
Her true legacy not only led to her success, but left us with the concept that faux pearls can be just as glamorous as real cultured pearls. And, we shouldn’t really concern ourselves with anything other than looking good. Even the ultimate non-conformist, Lady Gaga herself, has been captured sporting her Mikimoto pearl necklace.
