I've read a couple of things recently that have pointed out that all RSC productions of Doctor Faustus since like the 1960s have framed the Helen of Troy scene as a depiction of whatever counts as sexually transgressive for the time/place, so Helen has been represented as a beautiful cis woman but, like, with full frontal nudity; a reanimated corpse; an empty wig and dress which get used as props for a wank session; a man in a dress; and a creepily young-looking girl (played by an adult actress) who is then implied to actually just be a real, normal person who gets murdered in a fit of insanity (?)

Anyway I kinda think this is off the mark not so much because ~good taste or whatever (although pretty much any assumptions regarding what actually counts as transgressive or taboo will probably go to some pretty gross places--if Faustus wants to shag a man in a dress, more power to him) but because I'm not sure how well the scene works if it doesn't also seduce the audience (you can pull a reveal on them later if it suits, but I tend to think the arc of the play as a whole works better if we get closer to Faustus over the course of it, rather than further away, and if his ultimate fate feels somehow unjust on a gut level even if we understand the theological reasoning). And while it's common to read Faustus' embrace of Helen as the thing that seals his damnation, I don't think it is, I think looking for one point where it becomes too late for Faustus is misguided and that it only works if it's either always too late or never too late for him. All the tension of the play hinges on that paradox.

That said, depending on how your lead actors play the central relationship and how quickly you escalate the sexual tension, you can always pull the "it was Mephistopheles all along" variant, which is always a crowd-pleaser.

Jay Halstead, Crisis Counselor

"Are you the police?" "No, I just work with the police. I'm here to help you."

Jay can remember the exact moment he changed his mind about what he wanted to do with his life. He'd made it through the police academy, had a uniform and a badge, was patrolling the city of Chicago for a little over a month and thought he was making things safer. But he got pulled into a shootout that felt a lot like being back in Afghanistan, and he missed all the signs he should have seen in his suffering best friend, and none of it was what he expected his life to be like once he was home.

At four in the morning, Tuesday, November 15th, 2011, he sat in a hospital waiting room and made a choice.

By the time he was sitting in a diner three days later, he had quit his job. Between pestering nurses and refilling his body with cheap, tasteless coffee, he'd turned in his badge and filled out the paperwork to enroll in classes that would start after the holidays. It was almost a complete turn around from where he'd been, and it meant finding a part time job and a roommate - his thankfully alive best friend - so that he could keep a roof over his head while he got his degree. If his brother could get through medical school, he could get a Bachelor's on the government's dime.

Facing criminals and getting shot at wasn't what he wanted to do after all. It was too dangerous, brought up too many memories he'd rather forget, and even his therapist thought that distancing himself from things like that was better for him. Because of her and all of the sessions he begrudgingly attended, he actually slept through the night most of the time. He was able to stop drowning all the pain in too much alcohol, or any alcohol at all. He focused on school, and shifts at the family restaurant he'd gotten a job at, and making sure all of the medications in the bathroom cabinet got taken at the right times.

When Jay graduated with his sociology degree, and passed the test to become a licensed social worker, and his best friend became his boyfriend, things finally settled into place the way he thought they would before he'd turned his own life upside down. There were good days, where he got to work with kids and teenagers who just needed someone to listen to them and acknowledge what they were going through, and bad days, where talking to someone wasn't enough to save them from themselves. But it was a life he was proud of, and he'd saved more lives through engaging in the community than he'd taken overseas, and that was the kind of balance Jay didn't know he'd craved.

Please help me find this fic again! I dont remember the name or the author's name but it was on ao3 and first posted sometime in the last few months. It was a ROTTMNT x 2012 crossover. Donnie and Leo ended up in 2012, and 2012 turts found and restrained r!Donnie. R!Donnie woke up and (eventually) broke himself out and it was epic. He ripped himself from the table(?) he was strapped to from just strength alone and crushed something with his teeth (i think. Side note: more fics should have that) and unleashed a blast(?) of ninpo which is what shocked 2012 turts and Splinter enough for r!Donnie to fly out of there. The Hamato ancestors give Donnie directions to follow to find Leo, one point Saki himself appears to direct Donnie (loved that detail so much). Leo's half conscious in a junk yard this whole time, also feeling the directions to Donnie.

And thats the last update i read! Im dying to reread this and see if its updated but i cant remember the name!!! Please help

random ass thoughts in my brain that I’ve written about (ft my weirdo sniper and scout) 🎯⚾

Sniper really likes country music. The only radio station around in their area only plays old country and he became used to it. It reminded him of home. He drums his fingers against the steering wheel of his camper and sings along under his breath sometimes.

Sniper has to fight back tears when he sees roadkill, he’s very affected by it. He gets attached to animals easily too, and fosters injured animals he finds until they can be released.

Sniper likes photography! He has a tiny darkroom set up in his room on base (that he doesn’t sleep in).

Scout had funny feelings when he saw William Shatner get his shirt ripped for the first time on tv (he loves Star Trek)

Scout is a total mama’s boy (duh) and growing up he bonded over doo wop and r&b with her. He’s also actually pretty self sufficient: he can cook, has good hygiene, and manners too, he just acts up with the mercs cause they’re nahsty men. He hides his energy drink habit from Ma (she’d kill him).

When Sniper is over stimulated he lays down on the grown and concentrates on the vibrations until he calms down. He’s photosensitive and his glasses help with that.

Scout secretly loves romance films and musicals. He takes Ma out to the movies every time he goes home. He tries to watch horror movies to be tough but they give him nightmares.

Scout is friends with my Pyro, Enzo, who he secretly looks up to as a big brother. Sniper is friends with my Medic, Sloane, they’re both quiet and have a book club.

Scout dreamily draws Sniper in his sketchbook and when Sniper picked the book up for him one day from where it fell off a table, Scout panicked and threw it out a window (he got it back).

Sniper is so head over heels in love with Scout that he has to walk around the desert for a few hours to release pent up energy from literally just accidentally grazing their bare hands together.

Sniper has a photo he took of Scout as his bookmark that he is *deadly* protective of. When it’s not in his book, it’s tucked away on the inside of his hat. Scout doesn’t know about it but if he ever found out he’d explode. Homosexuals!
