Hi, first time that I'm asking questions to you. I got some questions about Asuka since I finished GG Begin: (1) How the military managed to force Asuka to work for them? (2) After Sol defeated the gear grizzly, knowing that Asuka is an apprentice of the Original because he gave Frederick the Flame of Corruption, he didn't attack Sarge and lied to Sol because he wants to know the military's whereabouts so that he can build Justice much later? More questions coming because I'm out of characters.
As far as is understood, Sarge was part of a rogue Military Faction within the American Military, and it was Viidia's task (as an undercover C.I.A. Agent) to undermine his attempt at stealing Gear Cell Research information.
Viidia later revealed to Frederick that she was part of the C.I.A. and was trying to stop Sarge, but because of the Gear Grizzly now under Sarge's control she became another dead victim of the Terrorist plot.
Meanwhile, Asuka used Frederick's outsider position as a Scapegoat by secretly planting the research information on Frederick (that was the USB stick that Asuka entrusted to him). This would ultimately paint him as a collaborator/terrorist despite Frederick's attempts at trying to save lives.
Frederick didn't have time to look at the contents he was given, but sent the data out as Asuka Instructed, however that information WAS intercepted by Viidia's superiors within the C.I.A., which is why they sent Viidia in to intercept Sarge's attempt at theft.
The end result meant only Sarge, Asuka, and Frederick were the only survivors of the incident of 2016.
HOWEVER, according to what we know of the Aftermath… the U.S. Government got ahold of Asuka's research data on Gear Cells ANYWAY, but put it under a Heavily Classified SS-Level Freeze, locking most of the information away for the next 30 years or so (until 2040 when the Gear Project was restarted under different leaders).
Asuka would later "rejoin" the newly instated Gear Project under an alias (this time working under the U.S. Military), but by that time, a lot of the Gear Cell development information had leaked (or was in the process of leaking) to foreign countries… so other countries would be working on their own versions of Gear Plant Army development and deployment.
As for what happened to "Sarge"… we aren't given a clear picture… HOWEVER… it is later revealed that Slayer looked up Frederick's past and held a deep interest in the "root" of the Gear Project's research information and spread of that information.
I wouldn't be surprised if Slayer tidied up any loose ends he found along the way, as the First Assassin.
Also, while Frederick knew about Asuka's ties to his Teacher, he never actually knew that The Original Sage was the one behind the Divine Seeds (i.e. the Flame of Corruption)… For a great many years, Frederick (later Sol) knew absolutely nothing about Asuka's doings, connections, or whereabouts.
It wasn't until Asuka revealed the true nature of the Flame of Corruption (along with what Raven knew) to Sol that the real situation was made clear.
Even the fact The Original Sage was even involved (later, Happy Chaos) was not even discussed during this time… except that it was The Original's altruistic intent to safeguard the Divine Seeds to prevent any further Mass Exctinctions from within the Backyard.
This was, of course, before he became known as Happy Chaos… or as he puts it "before I was broken".
But just to clarify, Sarge was considered an outsider element of the U.S. Military, so he no longer had anything to do with the United States Government anymore… he was essentially a traitor to the Nation.
From 2016 to 2040 the Ecosystem Evolution "GEAR" Project was frozen (for 24 Years)… but even then, a working Gear Prototype by U.S. Military standards wouldn't be made until 2060. (44 years in total)

Would you care to recount the tale of "The Great Salmon Incident of 99" if you want to?
I remember The Great Salmon Incident of '99. There were four ounces of salmon, and only three of us. We each agreed to take only one ounce of salmon, but Joe. Joe took the extra ounce of salmon. We started fighting in the street. Our bagels rolled over the curb onto the road, where cars crushed them, leaving no bagels for anybody. So remember, always bring the right amount of salmon for your group.
