Shhhh! Built in 1929 during Prohibition, this Spanish style home in Los Angeles, California has a secret floor. 4bds, 5ba, $4.188M.
Lovely foyer with a stained glass window and niche.
The living room is very large and there's a terrace overlooking the city of LA.
The current owners have a couch in front of the sliding doors, but this is the terrace.
Beautiful arched doorways and another niche.
The dining room is nice. I like that fixture.
The kitchen tile is amazing. Beautiful glass doors on the upper cabinets and a great exhaust hood.
There's a gorgeous family room next to the kitchen with a wood ceiling and access to the the patio.
Since the home was built in the 20s, it has stunning original Art Deco tiles in all the baths.
Gorgeous primary bedroom. It has a wonderful fireplace and terrace, plus a wall of windows to let in the natural light.
The baths are flawlessly original.
This may look like a pantry, but it's the entrance to the secret floor. You push on the shelves and they open to a space under the stairs.
The current owners just use it as storage. There’s also a little trip switch inside that was used to alert people on the bedroom floor and set off lights if someone was near the alcohol that was stashed in here. It has lots of potential.
And, behind that bookshelf is a big walk-in safe.
There's not a lot of property, it's built on a hillside and has a little over a third of an acre, but the grounds are nicely landscaped.
Lovestruck in-game vs real life -- Los Angeles (Gangster's in Love, My Siren Crush backgrounds, but also used in other series), all photos taken by me w/ my phone
Los Angeles skyline (night) -- Photo taken from Griffith observatory. The observatory closes at 10PM, your car will be locked-in/cited if you park at the top and don't leave by 10PM. Suggestion is to park at Greek Theater and walk up to the observatory, it's a 15-20min walk.
2800 E Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027
Griffith observatory (night) -- While the observatory is closed on Mondays, this is the best time to visit with less people there. You can still walk around the grounds and take photos. The parks, grounds close at 10PM.
2800 E Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027
Rodeo Dr -- In Beverley Hills there's a street with all high end shopping and eateries. Worth a walk through even if you don't buy anything.
9480 Dayton Way, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
Santa Monica Pier -- During weekdays you can drive up to the boardwalk and park there. During weekends it gets pretty crowded and you'd have to park at the public garages nearby in downtown.
The Ferris wheel is worth a ride during the day to get a high view of the entire beach. Surfing classes, rentals are available.
200 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401
Santa Monica beaches -- I went on a weekday and there were still a lot of people, but the beaches are nice especially at sunset. I didn't get a chance this time, but I heard beaches at Malibu are also very nice.
Los Angeles skyline (day) -- There's free parking about 1 mile down from the observatory and a dirt hiking trail (it's kinda steep) that leads up to the observatory. The short hiking trail is a good spot to get a view of the skyline in the daytime.
2800 E Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027
Stamp Proper Foods, 4500 Los Feliz Blvd, Ste C, Los Angeles (Los Feliz), CA 90027
I’ve passed by Stamp Proper Foods so many times…always wondered about it and I finally went. It’s not as hip or bougie as I expected for a place in Los Feliz. The focus is on healthy food, including many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The menu is extensive; it’s comfort food but healthy. They serve organic coffee from LA’s Groundworks.
They have a case of pastries, including cookies, croissants, brownies, and banana bread. Some items are vegan, some gluten-free, some vegan and gluten-free.
The menu includes waffles, French toast, pancakes, breakfast burritos, fancy toasts, omelettes, quesadillas, tacos, salads, wraps, sandwiches, soups, burgers, gluten-free pasta, and desserts. They have a full espresso bar, wine, beer, and smoothies. Breakfast is served all day. Happy hour with alcoholic drink specials is from 3 PM – 5:30 PM.
Vegan breakfast burrito with drip coffee ($17): The burrito is $16 a la carte, so the breakfast special is a good deal. The burrito was filling and had mashed non-gmo tofu, roasted potatoes cubes, spinach, red bell peppers, mushrooms, homemade guacamole and black beans. The whole wheat tortilla was warmed on the grill. It was on the wet side and was like a tofu scramble with veggies. The tofu was seasoned with a spicy yellow curry spice blend. The house salsa looked like tomato puree but tasted better than it looked. The burrito was solid but not special.
Drip coffee: Pretty bitter
The place is fairly large with indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance is cozy and inviting. Order at the counter and get a number. They’ll bring your food to the table. The décor is comfortable with communal tables and some smaller tables, framed pictures of Hollywood celebrities (with autographs from Steven Spielberg and Dustin Hoffman).
They have stamp (frequent buyer) cards for coffee drinks. Yes, they have free wi-fi and laptop campers. Parking can be challenging in the area. They have parking but it’s valet only.

Café Nido, 2810 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles (Silver Lake), CA 90027, Score: 34/50
Café Nido is easy to miss since the entrance is from the parking lot. It’s a beautiful, open courtyard café with a French mini van parked inside filled with books that you can read or buy. It looks like it used to be a nightclub/bar and the shelves still hold lots of bottles of hard alcohol.
Score: 34/50
Food: 4/5 – There is no kitchen but they will make cold croissant sandwiches and toast with butter, jam, or honey. I found the lack of effort they put into making the sandwiches pretty discouraging. The Fontal & Calabrese sandwich had slices of fontal cheese and three slices of Calabrese (salami). The pastries (cookies, croissants) are not made in-house but they chose a quality bakery.
Coffee: 4/5 – Counter Culture coffee beans, hot and cold espresso drinks, cold brew, tea, and juice.
Wi-fi: 5/5 – Free, unlimited, ask for the password
Ambiance: 4/5 – Open courtyard with various places to sit on tile, wood, or stools. Love the van filled with books and the plants.
Noise: 3/5 – Music is laid back, lots of talking
Plugs: 0/5 – Didn’t see any
Parking: 2/5 – They have six parking spaces in the back (one is a handicap space). Parking is possible in the residential areas but requires a short walk. It’s a busy area.
Comfort: 2/5 – Too many flies, too hot though they have some shaded spots
Bathroom: 5/5 – More than one
Art: 5/5 – Liked the painting, interesting – it’s leftover from the previous tenant
Tips: They also sell coffee beans, mugs, and merchandise. It's a popular place, so you may have difficulty finding a place to sit.
