"scrambling for her puppet" (in the ask about Moon learning Pebbles is in the works now) YOU GET IT YOU GET IT the puppet may be a personification but it's not the iterator's main body ! (Unless the whole structure is caput like Moon after the collapse)
I love it when the puppet is more akin to a body part the iterator must not forget to use when conversing with smaller organisms !
oh you are going to LOVE Notos and some of Haboob's lore when the big oc post comes out. and also Zephyr (who gets her puppet mangled into almost unregonizable mess of machinery and organic mush during her collapse but still lives n can Somewhat very minimally move the pieces of the gore). and Fish with his torn off head and half a torso in Saint's time..... i LOVE fuckin around with the puppets
BUT YES YES!!!! the puppet is just. another fucking organ, yea. which is so weird to say... i think of the puppets as fetuses from time to time because of the whole "umbilical" arm and "umbilical" cable business
perhaps the puppet bodies could be directly almost completely organic but hollowed out of mind and individuality in a manner to allow the iterator to plug into it and project their consciousness through it. it wouldn't be too outlandish for the Ancients to create a being for the sole purpose of causing it brain death upon its birth and then shoving the body into a box for a hivemind to claim. for fuck's sake afterall, those things that make up Metropolis might be very much alive too but not quite sentient enough to do much about their existence
(side note: i REALLY fuckin love the idea that Ancients are here like "oooOooOo iteratoooOoOOors you need to find an universal solution to mass ascension of the entire world, we cannot let anything suffer the curse of LiiIIiiiIIife boohooo waaaaah wah" while creating Living things that PHYSICALLY don't have the slightest chance to enjoy their life but only basically existing as bricks with karma. if we assume everything living possesses karma. this is also fun to think about when you know a bit about the buddhistic reincarnation system)
the fetus analogy is also kind of fun besides disturbing though, i'll say, what with fetuses not really being able to live outside of womb and also with the way the iterators look canonically... and that they are so small as well (das why i REALLY like the short iterators thing for canon). squishy ass fetuses, p sure if that shit got severed it would just kind of spasm, shrivel up, die and rot
i've had an idea cycling around my brain for so long of Nish giving a spook to one of the Ancients' children about how an Iterator is a hivemind given singular name and goal to be a singular being instead of millions. he says it in a joking way to wig out the kid a little but it's absolutely 100% true for once
i like to think that Sometimes the main body of the iterators (the superstructure) gets minimized into just "the can" by itself because the iterator gets a bit Too into seeing the puppet as their personification/self, to the point that they start to view That only as them despite their superstructure being alright. this results in one of the many kinds of madness an iterator can fall into - basically the cabin fever amped up, with their literal body causing them this mental decline
i've a post in my drafts for like over a month now that's just me playin with the iterator designs a bit more n the main thought is basically

umbilical ARM taken literally

Man, it's been forever since I posted on here. Life has been busy and the weather has been hot, so I wasn't able to be in my shop much. However, I've had some time recently, so here's a project I'm working on...
Years ago I got these Heathkit amplifiers at an antique radio sale. They've never worked, even after re-capping. Many years ago, I thought that one of the power transformers was bad. In my under-educated haste, I got rid of it.
In retrospect, I think it was probably fine. It turned out that both output transformers were bad. So now I was left with 2 amplifiers, but only 1 power transformer. I decided to design a power supply to power both amps and mount them both on a central chassis. These first pics show what the amplifiers used to look like, then after a re-paint.
Next step is to put them back together, and finish the electrical work on the amps and the power supply.
Stay tuned for more!

IDK if you’ve posted it already (I’m trying my damndest to look through all ur amazing art +posts) BUT
what is The Deal with Geode.
Hmm, idk if you mean like- how he even exists or what he does but I'll explain both anyways pft thank u for wanting to know
Warning, long post
Geode was made originally by a nameless mad scientist that used the robotniks as inspiration, Shadow's existence especially. Geode's intended purpose was to be a being of such raw, unrivaled power that nothing could stop him.
The TRUE ultimate lifeform, as he was called in the process of being made. He was supposed to be a weapon, a monster made from Sonic, Shadow, and something else's DNA.
But that kinda went prftt because Rouge, working with GUN, found out abt the suspected projected and sent Shadow to check it out and bam he found the little guy.
Not really knowing what else there was to be done, Geode (regardless of boom or in general) ends up being primarily raised by Shadow even if he "shares custody" with Sonic via just...dropping him off randomly when he wants to.
I've drawn Geode when he's just Tails's age bc I originally planned to focus on his life while he was that age buuut I plan to draw Geode's teen design now.
☆☆☆☆
Geode's abilities are super speed, super strength, and being much more compatible with magical energies like the chaos emeralds. He can tap into energies or give energy but only if he already has it- like carrying a bucket.
Issue is, his powers are unstable and needs special inhibitor rings because his speed and strength aren't consistent. Without the rings he can't tell if just a step will send him miles away, if knocking on a door will take the wall down, if attempting to run will be slow, or if an attempt to punch metal will do nothing but hurt himself.
The rings keep it at a consistent level rather than actually lowering or amping up something.
His ability to sense energies is stable though but always going at a mild level. He can intentionally enhance it if he focuses on something. At his basic level, he can just see the faint aura of people's souls (for a lack of better words), he knows where anyone in a 10 ft radius is.
Plants look brighter and kind of sparkly to him. And he can see any soul energies that... hasn't dispersed too, ghosts if you will. They look...different to him.
Living thing's auras is usually centered at their chest for him and makes their eye colors seem clearer, but ghosts? It's their entire body. It's strange to him.
☆☆☆☆☆
So uh, yeh, uhhh- if there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask PFT

literally every hue of red
obsidian
golden-bronze
steel-silver
𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒:
faded whiffs of cheap deodorant mingled with sweat at the end of a busy afternoon. distinct, masculine musk and warmed skin from being outside in the summer sun, beating down on him. the shared tang of the ocean’s headwind.
the nervousness lingering in the back of your nose, during moments of sharpened instincts; staining your tongue with something foul. like trepidation. he smells like oncoming threat. he smells like the anxiety you experience when you know danger is approaching, like something bad is about to occur, though you're uncertain of what that entails. he smells like clammy palms and a quickened heartbeat and a distrust that never quite dissipates.
metallic notes: spilled blood and laborious metalwork. the dryness of dusty tools in need of a polish, accompanied by the overwhelming bite of motor oil. an engine that's been running for too long, been functioning too hard, and is now emitting fumes.
the booze he's been drinking. rum on the rocks, or a frothy beer. stale fruit. shrouded in miasma while glasses clink in celebration as his men exchange a round of hearty toasts. an occasional cigarette when he steps outside for a smoke break. cheap thrills and long nights.

gaudy-printed pants which some would consider an eyesore for being so needlessly dramatic.
crimson hair, spiked each morning with copious amounts of hair gel.
a sizeable collection of expensive jewelry: bangles, cuffs, rings; stolen and never once bought.
bold lipstick in dark shades and kohl eyeliner painted on a face that would otherwise be too bare without.

a pair of tinted goggles from an old friend dear to him, still.
the harsh, jagged edges of a false alloy arm: a paradox in both loss and gain. of something clearly solid yet missing.

a well-used electric guitar resting atop an amp.
imposing mechanical animals seeming to contain life of their own, rattling and hissing with complicated motions.

bellowing laughter; gruff, satisfied rumbling lodged within a throat.

"a storehouse of restless discomfort and emotion. static stammering beyond your rabid snarling, the rushing of blood giving rise to the fine hairs on the back of your neck, disobedient and unlistening. a tense jaw that’s starting to go sore from gritted molars. everything about you is so loud. they won't part from you, uninjured. they'll speak of spite as though they'll understand it half as well as you do."
“being too good at these war-games. at collecting broken teeth and lacerations on your knees. a narrowed set of copper eyes — alight with animosity, dangerous and unnerving. it should hurt each time they knock you down; yet you don't quite feel it anymore. no love for the frail. you're about as angry as a bruise can get."
"your pull, magnetized on the outside, commands the creaking of the earth’s core. all iron folds to your will. you have little interest in playing god; despite what they say. you don't believe in transcendence, only perspective. so you continue to climb, tireless: a sentient contraption of mismatched parts continuously breaking down in the pursuit of strength. you’re an unburied artefact, terror on hooves. a rampaging minotaur lost inside the remnants of a once-great civilization. the wild shrillness of your best friend’s laughter, reeking in sacrifice and hardship, makes your residual limb flare up in turn. the pressure upon your shoulders remains heavier than any monstrous prosthetic you wield. you’ll protect everyone who’s counting on you: you’ve no other choice. you glint in spite of the rust."
"you were a boy once, turned man too early. you cling to survival like a hungry dogchild, thinking he can feast on raw bones alone, hurting yourself on every splinter. your stomach pierced; you, swearing you're never going to die. this is what it means to be the underdog. this is what it means to have the mettle not to recoil when you were made to stand in the living room of fear. you dread nothing and no one."

The Gilded Age Will Get a Lot More Operatic in Season 2
Full article copied below:
BY RICHARD LAWSON AUGUST 23, 2023
Tumblr media
The second season of HBO’s The Gilded Age (premiering October 29) will amp up the stakes, along with the lavish production design. As we see in these first-look images and a new trailer, debuting exclusively on VF.com, the late-19th-century swells of the Upper East Side are back at it in extravagant fashion—while their maids and cooks and butlers scurry about the mansion basements attending to their own complicated intrigues.
youtube
“The whole thread of [season two] is wrapped around this story of dueling opera houses,” says executive producer David Crockett. Those houses are the Academy of Music, long the cultural destination of Manhattan’s most monied families, and the upstart Metropolitan Opera. (We, of course, know who won in the end.) “The opening nights of the 1883 season—and the first ever opening night of the Met—fell on the same night,” says Crockett. “So you have this very clear choice for all of New York society: Are you going to go the old money route, or the new money route? It’s a great engine for a classic clash.”
Tumblr media
Bertha Russell, the new-money industrialist’s wife played with flint and mettle by Carrie Coon, lays it plain in an early episode of season two: “The opera is where society puts itself on display, where the elite meet each other and their children court each other and where the wheels of society turn.” And so we will watch those wheels turn, and wrench. As dramatized by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, The Gilded Age gives viewers the vicarious delight of swanning around opulent estates and fabulous Newport parties—as well as perhaps the slight queasiness of guilt. After all, should we really be fawning over such blithe plutocrats?
Tumblr media
Executive producer Michael Engler, who also directs many episodes of the series, says that moral shading is a deliberate part of TheGilded Age picture, perhaps even more so in season two. “They have moral choices,” Engler says of the show’s many rich folks. “As you watch them make [those choices], that’s how you determine their moral character and value. It’s not, We love the rich and we love watching them, so we don’t really care how they act. You see what it takes and what it costs people to behave a certain way.” Season two will also expand on the first season’s glimpse of Black society in Brooklyn, the home turf of Denée Benton’s Peggy Scott, who works for a white family—among them the imperious and very old money Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and her spinster sister, Ada (Cynthia Nixon)—while negotiating political and social matters across the river. Ada, meanwhile, may finally be getting a love interest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Benton, Baranski, and Nixon are but three of the many New York stage luminaries who make up the cast of The Gilded Age. That the show is essentially a who’s who of Broadway stars wasn’t exactly by design; it was more an unexpected, and quite happy, development, says Engler. He remembers famed New York casting director Bernard Telsey telling him that a variety of notable names were eager to be a part of the project. “It was amazing. It was like, Really? She would play a recurring character on our show?”  Those actors are natural interpreters of The Gilded Age’s tone and temperament. “Our theater people are so trained to do this kind of material—great language, complex period character work—that they just never get to do on film,” says Engler. “Even Christine Baranski. She said, ‘I’ve done period plays my whole life, but I’ve never acted in a period thing on film.’ She was just so excited about doing that. It became clear that those were the people best suited to it, and we got particularly lucky.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With its intricate environments—careful mixes of practical sets, real locations, and digital effects—and a sprawling cast of ornately costumed characters, The Gilded Age season two promises to deliver on the period grandeur so beloved by fans. “It’s much bigger than Downton,” says Engler, a veteran of that show. How could it not be, as The Gilded Age considers a whole city, teeming with stories, burgeoning along? It’s fitting, then, that so much of season two will center on something as sweeping—and expensive—as the opera. The curtain can’t raise soon enough.

So that resurrection scene kind of brings up something for the general Kaine vs Ben and Peter debate- it looks like the Jackal did enhance his powers/mutate them beyond what Peter could do? I know there's the argument over whether Kaine is meant to look exactly like Peter/have the exact same powers but this seems to support the idea that he was deliberately designed differently from Ben. And the Other would have resurrected him perfectly; so these secondary mutations he's initially resurrected with are implied to be part of his natural powerset? I've been trying to figure this out for years and no one can agree lmao
Oooooh, thank you so much for sending in an ask, because this is a topic I could talk about endlessly. :D
Disclaimer: the continuity surrounding Kaine and the Clone Saga as a whole is uniquely snarled even beyond typical comic book whackiness, so while I will do my best to back up my reasoning using comic book evidences, I am, at the end of the day, just a person on the internet and you should take everything I say with a grain of salt hahaha Oh, and another disclaimer is that I’ll mainly be drawing from the material I have read for this read-through so far. It has been a couple years since I last read Scarlet Spider vol. 2 or any of the more recent works Kaine has been in, so I may go back and add to this post in the future if I stumble upon any more interesting and relevant material. 👀
The shortest and most direct answer to your first question of if the Jackal specifically made Kaine differently from Ben with the aim of the former being “stronger” than Peter is from the “Echoes” story in Web of Spider-Man (Vol. 2/2009), #1 by J. M. DeMatteis.
Tumblr media
Further supporting evidence in this vein can be found in the story I believe you’re referencing in your ask, “What I Did for Love,” Spider-Island: Deadly Foes (Vol. 1/2011), #1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of these can be editorially explained by the staff scrambling to answer the question of “wait, if we’re going to bring Kaine back in the year of our Lord 2009, how on earth are we going to explain how he, out of all the Parker clones (including Ben at this point), didn’t degenerate when degenerating was one of Kaine’s defining characteristics???” That’s where I believe the narrative of “the Jackal designed Kaine to be stronger” is most definitively explicated; however, I have further “evidences,” musings, and discussion of how The Other changes spider people beneath the cut if any one would like to read more. :D
There are other, even earlier indicators, however, that Kaine was built to be stronger than Peter. The first examples that come to mind are Kaine’s precognitive flashes and the infamous Mark of Kaine. The latter is a more easily defendable claim as, while Peter has demonstrated that in moments of extreme rage like in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1963), #598 and #637 he is not above sticking to someone’s face, those instances seem to be more like examples of extreme adhesion as opposed to the unique burning/acidic quality of Kaine’s “Mark.”
Tumblr media
Peter in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1963), #598 vs. Kaine in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1963), #631 and #636, respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, Kaine’s precognitive flashes actually being Peter’s spider-sense amped up to 11 is a bit harder to defend, as that requires near-apocryphal material as evidence. Specifically, Marvel editor and writer Glenn Greenberg described Kaine’s pre-cog flashes as such in part nine of The Life of Reilly, a joint project with Andrew Goletz and various other Marvel insider interview subjects on the complicated editorial history surrounding The Clone Saga. Greenberg goes on to state in that same part that “it was well established in the stories that Kaine was physically stronger than Peter, and he was clearly much taller and more massive” (qualities we will get back too), but that all of Kaine’s abilities directly paralleling Peter was never actually explicitly stated in the text, much to all of the writers’ chagrin.
So, in light of that statement, I would like to throw my hat into the ring on the “is Kaine stronger/bigger than Peter” debate (what could possibly go wrong hahaha).
As early as when Kaine first revealed himself to be a Parker clone, he was described by multiple sources, including Kaine himself, the aforementioned Jackal, Ben, and Peter, as being stronger.
Tumblr media
Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1990), #60 by Howard Mackie.
Tumblr media
Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1990), #66 by Howard Mackie.
Tumblr media
Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1963), #634 by Joe Kelly.
Now, whether Kaine is actually stronger or just more willing to cut loose and use his strength to its full lethal capabilities is an argument I am definitely willing to entertain, as there is no doubt that Peter is strong, but willfully holds himself back (I don’t think I’ll ever forget that time Peter held up the entire Daily Bugle building on his back in Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1990), #98 or the time he beat Firelord, a herald of Galactus, in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1963), #270, and he is a self-proclaimed juggler of cars according to Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider-Man (Vol. 1/2017), #6). (…and then there’s that whole debacle with the “““superior””” Spider-Man and the Scorpion’s jaw).
As for if Kaine is physically larger, I stand by Greenberg’s statement that Kaine was consistently drawn as larger than Peter throughout the 1990’s and most of the 2000’s, with even the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Spider-Man (2005) listing Kaine as being 6’4” while Peter has reliably been 5’10” for ages (or as listed in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: A-Z (2009) if you want a specific source hahaha).
In fact, from what I have gathered, Kaine wasn’t portrayed as being physically similar in size to Peter until Slott’s Spider-Island event in 2011 (which,,,I feel like critics might be able to make a snide comment from that about how much Slott cares about the Spider-Man franchise, but that is WAY too far afield hahaha).
Tumblr media
Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1/1963), #672.
Okay, so after all that, I also wanted to discuss what you brought up about the Other and resurrecting Kaine with his innate skill set. The facetious answer would be “yes, kind of???”, but considering Peter’s own experience with being connected to the Other, the powers Kaine developed post-resurrecting are not all actually as unique as, say, his precognitive flashes or his Mark.
Interestingly enough, a lot of the powers we associate with post-encountering-the-Other Kaine were actually explored with Peter in the early and mid-2000’s, with each power being unlocked after investigating Peter’s connection to the Spider-totem concept or other inherent spider-related matters.
Namely, Ezekial Sims first hints that by tapping into the totem Peter could communicate with spiders in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 2/1999), #32 by J. Michael Straczynski.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That concept is further expounded upon and made to be a reality in Spectacular Spider-Man (Vol. 2/2003), #20 by Paul Jenkins, when the Spider-Queen enhanced existing spider-like qualities and DNA in Peter (in a rather horrific arc that solidified my hatred for the Spider-Queen but that’s just me hahaha)
Tumblr media
During that same arc, Peter also got organic webbing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, Peter did briefly have a pair of Kaine’s infamous wrist bone blades (pictured here from Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Vol. 1/2005), #3 by J. Michael Straczynski), but, being the kind of guy who typically tries to avoid disemboweling people (Morlun here is an exception since he broke MJ’s arm), Peter just didn’t use them all too often.
Tumblr media
So anyway, tl;dr, what happens with Kaine post-resurrection could definitely be described as “enhancing powers that were already there if perhaps inert,” but there is a compelling argument (if you take all comics from all eras as equally valid/canon), that those powers are buried within Peter’s DNA/totemic connection(???) as well and were thus passed onto his enhanced clone.

第2話 【前半】 - 異服 (queer clothes)
hello everyone, this is the first part of my series on conceptual samples which is all about (sustainable) fashion! the title 「異服」 is a play on the word 衣服 (i-fuku) meaning clothes and the character 異 (i) which stands for different or queerness. this post is for anyone who is sick of fast fashion, boring designs & heterosexual, cisgender norms that are embedded in fashion. interested in the concept of slow fashion, i will introduce you to 5 queer designers that embrace ecological, ethical & sustainable approaches to fashion.
i already have my 🌈gay socks🌈 on, so let's go!
Tumblr media
Mark Baigent uses fashion to address social & political themes, creating gender-free clothing. although their designs might seem to engender either a more feminine or masculine appearance, in understanding gender as simply being human, Baigent’s clothes create gender-neutral silhouettes. these garments are not tailored to certain body types, thus they’re intended to be worn by anybody. they aim to design fashion that creates a dialogue between convention and avant-garde. minimalistic & geometric shapes characterize the clothes of the designer who supports slow fashion as well as sustainability. accordingly, Baigent makes a point of following fair trade ethics by using natural, locally sourced materials from which they craft the various clothing items in their small manufactury in bali.
the following collection focuses on the concepts “Gender Is A Lie” & “I Am Not Your Binary”. these two phrases can also be seen on several items. the collection embraces everything Mark Baigent stands for: gender-free & ethical clothing.
God Era by Nino Goderidze is a notable representative when it comes to ethical fashion. the designer who avidly supports sustainability has also worked on creating biodegradable vegan leather. she views the human body as an “object and inspiration for developing an organic art medium”. her work depicts a future of queered technology where the human becomes a genderless organism that possesses both natural & synthetic qualities. In this context, I want to introduce 2 of God Era’s collections:
digital ark: in a post-apocalyptic future where humans have lost their physical state, the memories of every inhabitant of earth are preserved in the digital ark. with this collection, God Era seeks to criticize the consumerism intrinsic to the (mainstream) fashion industry which ignores its effects on the planet's resources in favor of making a profit. not only does this practice endangers the existence of human but also that of animals. hence, the collection features several items made from the designer’s vegan leather.
(white) apocalypse: the cyborg, half human & half robot, emerges as a hybrid organism from the human being who has been losing its humanistic features. this highly intelligent creature could be described as transhuman as it comes to possess superhuman abilities. this project is meant to reflect the chaotic nature of organisms’ evolutionary processes.
Alectra Rothschild celebrates trans (& queer) identities through her fashion designs. she subscribes to the concept of subversive glamor & “decadent glamour in a rotten way”. she states, “the people I design for are like myself, trans people, and people who subscribe to glamour and femininity.” the designer describes her designs as “flamboyant, high femme, and quite shameless”.
people (some of them terfs) have criticized Rothschild’s work as relying on stereotypes and, in essence, constituting a caricature of femininity. however, as a matter of fact, the designer honors the impactful women in her life and puts femininity & femmes on a pedestal. in her work, she focuses on the idea of community before consumption. further, she uses various techniques when creating her designs that allow for her clothes to fit on many different bodies.
Rothschild’s collection Messages from the Stars is her “love letter to the trans community” & seeks to effect a shift from perceiving being trans as abnormal to appreciating the beauty & divinity of the trans experience & community. she explores the concept of multiplicity in oneself, drawing on the idea that context influences who we are in that moment. for this purpose, the designer created different characters that represent different aspects of herself that co-exist within her. These include the witch, the pirate & the showgirl, sporting outfits such as three-piece suits and burlesque minidresses.
“the point of the collection was to say that you can be a lot of things all at once. stop minimising yourself into one box when you can be 15 boxes.”
in another collection, Rothschild focuses on the lifestyle of people "at the fringes of respectable society", such as the djs, artists, drag queens & voguers. this collection embodies a mix of several different aesthetics, from drapery to bodysuits, showing Rothschild’s refusal to follow one clear style. As such, the danish designer distances herself from mainstream scandinavian fashion which is characterized by its clean & homogenous look. in Rothschild’s own words, “fuck the clean narrative! chaos reigns!”
Levau Shveldize focuses on LGBTQ+ activism with clothes & addresses queer oppression as he views fashion as a vital tool for communicating social or political messages. surrounded by conservative rules of behavior, he feels that the freedom of self-expression is severely limited, especially for queer people. for this reason, the aim of his work is to transform society’s hatred & fear of the LGBTQ+ community into understanding & acceptance.
“I want to cause a reaction with my collections”
the designer gets his inspiration & motivation from other queer people working in fields of his interest. Shveldize envisions that his clothing can enable (queer) people to express themselves free from heteronormative standards.
sustainable & ethical practices are of high importance to Shveldize as he recognizes that the fashion industry is among the biggest polluters in the world. his devotion can be seen in one of his “gender-fucking collections” where he presents unisex eco- & LGBTQ-friendly clothing. the garments are created by recycling & upcycling second-hand fabrics & materials; the designs are inspired by gothic art, social simulation games & pop culture, but also sexual fetishes. the items in this collection are characterized by asymmetrical cuts, the combination of different materials & experimental details.
in his collection The Interview with Death, Shvelidze reinterprets bedtime stories told by his grandfather, full of strange & beautiful creatures, as pink bloody nightmares. distorted see-through dresses, tight belts & blood drips imprint the feeling of fear into the different garments. with his grotesque & gender-fluid presentation, the designer intended to highlight the queer communities that are facing oppression in post-soviet georgia.
Raffa Reuther is a self-described nonbinary dyke & an interdisciplinary artist working in the fields of fashion, photography & printmaking, among others. they create handmade garments from locally sourced materials with a focus on shape, identity, construction & play in their designs.
the designer criticizes the idea that one is expected to wear only clothing which flatters, as prescribed by patriarchy, one’s body shape. being someone whose existence defies binary notions of gender, Reuther seeks to present themself in a way that doesn’t conform to society’s expectation of feminine or masculine presentation. accordingly, Reuther designs their clothes to be worn by anyone of any gender & of any body size. the colorful garments are made for people to boldly express who they are, while at the same serving their practical purpose of, e.g. keeping warm & holding stuff, as well as go with the wearer’s existing wardrobe. there is an emphasis on fun, which can be seen in the combining of different fabrics & colors in the designs. this is meant to represent the unique personalities of the people who wear the garments.
i hope you enjoyed this little journey into queer & sustainable fashion 😊 (stay tuned for part 2)

There's a She-Wolf in the Closet

As the months of filming drew closer for Jayden, so did her nerves. What if she wasn't ready for something of this magnitude? She's only been in small plays, only occasionally getting the main character or a big part. Now she's going to be the protagonist in a big budget superhero film where they'd usually hire faces the audience has seen in other projects. This would be the first ever acting credit Jayden would have on…. Any website.
The girl isn't even an indie actress, she's no one. There's no fan made films she's ever done or even short features. The girl has barely even been an extra in a TV show.
She expressed her worry to one of the production assistants but they soothed her, even if it was an empty compliment or two, it did settle her nerves until she got home for the night. It all suddenly hit her. Jayden would be filming in a month or two from then. Which meant the next year or so she would spend away from her home. Was she prepared for that?
Jayden wanted to be an actress. A huge one that everyone in their right mind couldn't ignore and loved. But was this too soon? She certainly hoped not. The young woman has wanted this forever, for as long as she can remember.
Even seeing the movies her parents carefully curated for her, she wanted to be an actress. To wear pretty costumes, have her hair meticulously in or out of her face to add to a scene, to be able to go to far away lands that no one could dream of. It was a type of paradise only she thought she could reach. But that wasn't so.
Jayden knew she used these shows and movies as a coping mechanism. Escapism. It helped most of the time. Other times, it simply didn't.
Now though, she was truly in the mechanism that is film making. Another small gear in the huge machine that is Hollywood. She was mostly insignificant in the grand scheme of things, as were most actors and people in general.
The young woman shook her head. She needed to stop with the existentialism or she would have a panic attack.
Jayden took a deep breath after entering her apartment and quickly went to grab a cup and fill it with chocolate milk. While a cup of coffee was comforting there was something even more soothing about a nice glass of chocolate milk. Reminiscent of a time of her childhood that wasn't as horrible.
She knew she should be happy. Elated even. Her name would forever be etched into the eyes of Hollywood. But maybe part of her doubts was that she would only be cast in Superhero movies. Her only source of income would be that. Nothing else. Jayden didn't want to be typecast, she knew how damaging it could be to some careers.
Then a ping grabbed Jayden from her thoughts. A text from one of the costume designers.
This is the final design!
We'd like you to come over
tomorrow so we can
adjust accordingly, thanks!
Another deep breath from Jayden and a small smile made its way to her face. The costume was almost done, just some small adjustments…. Probably around her crotch area. It was a little funny that everyone knew they hired a trans actress and yet there still wasn't enough room for her package in the costume.
The woman took a long sip from her glass and pursed her lips for a moment. She wondered where Sherlock was, usually he'd be barreling through her door at this point. Maybe he was out? At least it was quiet for the time being.
Jayden quickly drank the rest of her milk and set the glass in the sink, holding onto the counter as she took a breath. She could do this. Her whole life led up to this moment and she couldn't–shouldn't–back out now. As the woman looked into her reflection in a metallic pot, she realized she's exactly where she needs to be.
The woman has friends now. True ones. Good ones. They will help her. She's not alone anymore. Jayden doesn't have to do things by herself if she doesn't want to.
Sherlock is a loyal friend and isn't one to sugar coat things, great if asking for advice. While John is nicer than Sherlock, he's still good to come to for advice since he's lived a longer life. And Mary…. Jayden could tell she would be able to come to her for anything, advice, clothes shopping, makeup products.
They all seem to also care less that she is transgender. And not in the bad way.
Jayden couldn't help the light smile that made it to her lips. She was glad she could function without friends but wasn't it sweeter being able to function with them? She could share her excitement about roles with them rather than just screaming in her apartment by herself. Which seemed much much sadder. They could go out together, have fun by simply walking around and perhaps shopping. Though she was the youngest out of the four, she would be able to stay out longer. Plus, John and Mary had a child…. Maybe not the best idea to go out in the afternoon.
As Jayden went into her bedroom to change into some pajamas, she noticed a mug on her nightstand along with a note underneath.
After a long day, I usually like
some tea but since you're not one
for that, I made some hot cocoa.
Have a good night, Jay.
– SH
The smile on Jayden's face widened at the note, pursing her lips before she set the note in her drawer and took a sip of the cocoa. She blinked at the taste. It was everything she liked….
Well, of course Sherlock noticed. Jay loved a sprinkle of cinnamon in her hot cocoa to make it taste similar to a chocolate snickerdoodle.
Then she also noticed some pajamas were already sitting on her bed. That had to be Sherlock yet again. Jayden shook her head and let out a small laugh, realizing the man probably had to pick her lock to get inside. The things that man does for a simple payoff like this….
Getting ready for bed that night was much easier than the previous ones partly because Sherlock helped with it but also because Jayden made peace with something. That she'll be okay in the end, no matter what happened because there were people now backing her. They would show up to her movies even if no one else did and Jayden was okay with that.
Sure, it would be nice to impress the world but it would be a hell of a lot cooler if she impressed both herself and her friends. That's what mattered.

this year two things happened that have lead to me to dive into developing a knowledge and understanding of the prison system here better. I created a small test project where I formated printed and bound open-source papers and esays on prison and prisoner life and rights to make them more accessible. While I was working on this, a friend of mine's father was murdered in prison, which was a very sobering surprise reminder of what is truly at stake here. Anyhow I'm just dumping a bunch of links here in going to read later

Future-Proofing Your AV System: Tips for Long-Term Success
For any home theatre design, you want your audio-visual (AV) system to stand the test of time. Technology is constantly evolving, so how do you build a system now that won't be outdated in a few years? In this blog, we'll provide tips on future-proofing your AV setup for long-term success. We'll cover components, connectivity standards, and ways to future-proof your entire home theatre design.
Tumblr media
Cable Management and Connectivity
The first thing to consider is cable management and connectivity. How your various components are physically connected can determine how future-proof your system is. Use high-quality cables that allow for future upgrades. Consider the following:
HDMI Cables
HDMI has become the standard connection for video and audio transfer in home theatre design. Make sure to use HDMI 2.0 or higher certified premium cables that can support the latest video and audio standards like 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos. Monoprice, Mediabridge and Blue Jeans Cable make quality, future-proof HDMI options.
Future-Proof HDMI Connections
Consider leaving extra length on HDMI cables or installing cable grommets/hiding places where you can easily access cables to swap them out later. Label all cable ends clearly so future upgrades are simple. It's also a good idea to leave at least one open HDMI port on each component like the AV receiver or TV in case you need to add devices down the road.
Digital Optical Audio Cable
Optical audio cables are commonly used to transmit surround sound formats from compatible components to your AV receiver. Monoprice offers fiber optic cables that can reliably transmit audio formats up to 192kHz/24-bit. This covers all current and many future audio standards.
Networking and Wireless
Networking and wireless capabilities will play an even bigger role as smart home technologies evolve. Make sure your router, switches and any components with network capabilities support the latest wireless standards like Wi-Fi 6 for bandwidth-heavy applications. Consider running an Ethernet cable if possible for more stable, higher bandwidth connections versus wireless.
AV Receiver: The Heart of the System
The AV receiver is the central hub that controls audio and video signals in a home theatre setup. Future-proof your system starting with the receiver. Consider the following tips when selecting a receiver:
HDMI 2.1 Support: Look for HDMI 2.1 and higher which supports the latest video standards up to 8K resolution, 4096p dynamic HDR including Dolby Vision. Future-proof for the next 5-10 years.
Audio Formats: Support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Music casting and high-resolution audio formats ensures compatibility with future audio technologies.
Network Streaming: Built-in streaming apps, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, streaming codecs like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X for direct streaming.
Expandability: Future-proof with sufficient HDMI inputs/outputs, pre-amp outputs for future amplification, subwoofer and speaker connectivity.
Room Correction: MultEQ-X, Audyssey or similar room calibration/EQ for the life of the receiver.
Regular Software Updates: Brands like Denon and Yamaha regularly support older AV receivers with feature/format updates.
Display and Video Processing
For a truly future-proof home theatre design, focus on the video display and processing. Consider these tips:
4K & HDMI 2.1 Ready: Televisions and projectors that support 4K/8K and HDMI 2.1 or higher for bandwidth-intensive formats.
HDR Compatibility: HDR10, Dolby Vision compatible displays future-proof for wider adoption of high dynamic range content formats.
Contrast and Peak Brightness: OLED or high-end LED/LCD with wide color gamut and 1000+nits peak brightness.
eARC Support: Enhanced Audio Return Channel on TVs improves compatibility with external audio components.
Video Processor: If projecting, a high-end video processor can help future-proof through scaler/switch upgrades to support new resolutions. Processors like Lumagen Radiance have long upgrade cycles.
Future-Proofing Speakers and Subwoofers
While it may seem the most difficult and expensive to upgrade, speakers can actually last longer than other components if selected carefully:
Flexible Placement: Choose speakers that can maintain good sound regardless of placement changes over the years.
Future Formats: Audiophile speakers with wide frequency response support the latest surround sound formats.
Amplification: Bi-amplified, powered, or upgraded amplifier compatibility ensures speakers reach their full potential for many years.
Subwoofer Extension: Dual integrated subwoofers or separate subwoofers with amplifier headroom give low-end extension for bigger movie sound.
Upgrades and Future-Proofing Your Design
No system can truly be future-proof, but with careful consideration and flexible design choices, your home theatre system can stay relevant far longer. Some final tips:
Save Receiver Presets: Back up custom setups so any future upgrade paths are smooth.
leave Space for Growth: Leave room for new components in your physical layout like Atmos heights or wireless surrounds.
Cable Management Access: Ensure any added runs can integrate seamlessly behind walls or in cable trays/raceways.
Test Future Formats: Try demoing newer resolutions, formats to see where your system need upgrades first.
Upgrade Selectively: Focus on Video, then Audio quality as higher-end standards emerge over several years instead of a complete overhaul.
With the right equipment choices and flexible system design, your home theatre can provide outstanding performance for many years to come as technologies evolve. Future-proofing ensures long-term success so you can enjoy your movies and music well into the future.
