Hiiiii hello I, (A person who wrote an egregiously long ask about the lack of Tropes TM in the spideytorch page among other things. I will not delude myself into thinking im the only person to do such a thing bc imo! Everyone should! i hope u recieved like 200+ asks/messages/comments about spideytorch bc i think they deserve it) just read ur new fic and !!!! You are so right about literally everything the WAY you did journalist Peter 🤌🤌 his career lending itself to hyjinks and meet cutes is literally all ive ever wanted if i could directly send u all the seretonin this fic gave me i would! Much love have a great day <3
(Also i do have to comment on how funny it was to me that once u started writing the spideytorch fic like half of ur content became I HAVE NEVER ONCE READ A FANTASTIC FOUR COMIC I HAVE TRICKED YOU ALL like u say that and yet you wrote Johnny perfectly. Canon is just a suggestion anyway)
Anon I am screaming crying throwing up etc wishing I could give you all the serotonin this ask and your other ask and THE TAGS ON THE FIC POST gave me back to you because oh my gosh I love you anon!!
okay but listen here's the thing I haven't read a fantastic four complete run or even a complete volume. All of my knowledge of Johnny Storm comes from fanfic, his appearances in spider-man comics we need to talk about how adorable he is in friendly neighborhood spider-man (2019), the Spider-Man/Human Torch (2005) team-up comic, and like the few issues of the fantastic four I will pick up only because Spider-Man is there. I have made friends with so many people that actually know shit about comics on tiktok and it's only a matter of time before they realize that I'm just really really weird about spider-man and know next to nothing about anything else

Into the Anthill pt 38 - Flashbacks Only (The Skrull Years)
So Hank got replaced by a skrull and missed about 3 years of Marvel’s publication history. Happens to the best of us I guess. In that timeframe the skrull named Criti Noll impersonated Hank for about 90 comic issues from House of M to Civil War to the start of Secret Invasion. So, the only comics I can genuinely count as Hank’s appearances here are the flashback and retcon stories he appeared in.
It’s a good thing he was a founding Avenger or there wouldn’t have been shit to cover here.
🐜🐜🐜
Marvel Monsters: Monsters on the Prowl
In this flashback story set before Hank ever became Goliath, Mole Man and The Collector came into competition over how many giant monsters they controlled. Mole Man released several of his into NYC to wreak havoc to prove that his monsters were better. Thing and Hulk were joined by Giant-Man and Beast to fight them.
Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes II vol 1 #1-8
With the recent addition of Vision to the Avengers’ roster, the founding members got together for a meeting. Goliath, now serving as chairman, had an uphill battle with the National Security Council ahead of him now that Captain America was off the team. S.H.I.E.L.D. took Vision into custody to interrogate him soon after, partly to vet his intentions and partly to make sure he had nothing to do with their recent Super Adaptoid intel. Apparently A.I.M. had planned to mass produce them but lost control and had their island base overrun by them. Hank led the team to the island to handle the Adaptoid threat and destroyed dozens of them on his own as Goliath while the rest of the team shut down the production line. The original Super Adaptoid escaped without a trace and Hank began to suffer nightmares about the battle. He awoke in a cold sweat and headed to his lab, where he brushed everything off of one of his tables in a rage. The gaseous reaction from the chemicals he’d knocked over caused the temporary psychosis that led him to becoming Yellowjacket.
This retconned version of the Yellojacket story asserts that everyone knew he was Hank the whole time but played along because he didn’t seem to know it himself. They worried that trying to snap him out of this by force could break him entirely, so they allowed the farce to play out to its logical conclusion. Jan, asserting that she was the only one who knew what was best for him, arranged their wedding as fast as she could and even had a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent stationed as the minister. Amid rising concerns about his mental health Hank stepped down as Avengers chairman after the wedding.
Avengers Classic vol 1 #1-3
At the second monthly meeting of the original Avengers Jan diffused a brewing fight between Hulk and Thor by calling both of them pretty. Iron Man tried to start the meeting by clarifying that he was their leader, but Hulk, Thor, and Ant-Man each argued that they were more qualified for the role. Thor suggested arm wrestling for it, but Wasp had a better idea: make her the official chairman on the charter because “it won’t count since she’s a girl,” leaving their masculinity intact. Some time later after Hulk quit the team, Iron Man and Giant-Man had a practice battle against each other to see if the Iron Man mk 3 armor could keep up with Hank’s newly increased size and strength. On the ride home Hank confided that he didn’t think he was strong enough for this line of work and admitted that he’d already figured out Iron Man’s secret identity.
Minor/Cameo appearances from this period:

Can't stop thinking about Flashkaine when Kaine is the Other because the FIRST time "the Other" appears as a character, there's a bit of an obsession with Flash Thompson and she thinks of him as the "ideal mate". Peter has to rescue Flash when she kidnaps him and tries to rape him. She disappears and the next time we see the Other is when Kaine becomes the host. Obviously he's a magnet for that specific spider totem but god knows why and there's definitely a joke here that I'm missing
Ok, so I had to go back and read the times The Other appears because I had only read them in Scarlet Spider.
The first time they appeared they were in male form and like it was peter centric with their plot.
The second time was the time you mentioned, and they were in a female form, and were all about putting their spider babies into Flash, lol. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2005) #21
Tumblr media
Another interesting thing is that they also had the same Stingers as Kaine:
Tumblr media
There is some pretty good FlashKaine fic potential there with The Other seeing Flash as their mate and Kaine dealing with that and his own crush on Flash!

Brawl seeing your tag calling Peter triple J's work son now has me desperately desiring to see his reaction to finding out Peter = Spider-Man and it's a wild new feeling since I do not normaly care about the Spider-Men/Women at all. WHAT CORRUPTION HAVE YOU WROUGHT??!!
Tumblr media
Muhaha. This is such a good very specific topic to latch onto, because you have an embarrassment of riches to sample. Summary-style spoilers.
SOFT SIDEKICK VERSION: Jonah actually knows right now. That reveal is in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man (2017) #6, “My Dinner With Jonah”. It’s probably the strongest thread in that run. Jonah pretty much goes, “I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’RE SPIDER-MAN.... I CAN’T BELIEVE I HAVE TO AID AND ABET A MENACE NOW.” “What? No one asked you to--” “No, I’m gonna.” Like it’s seriously just
JJJ: I can’t believe I’m your accomplice now. Give me something to do. Peter: What? Jonah, you’re not my accomplice. Go home. JJJ: No, seriously, is there an introductory pamphlet? Who else knows? Is there a club? Are there t-shirts? Peter: Go home, Jonah. JJJ: When I lie to a cop for you do I get a sticker? Or a voucher for therapy? Peter: Jonah, go home.
Jonah does not go home. He persists through the remainder of this SSM run, and on into the current run of ASM but that’s not as good. The above image is from the issue immediately after #6, which...is #297 because Marvel does that sometimes.
BETRAYED YELLING VERSION: Before that JJJ found out when everybody else did in the identity reveal from Civil War (the comic version), before that was wiped from continuity (with all that juicy relationship goodness only lightly explored even happening across like six titles, alas). He was SMAD. The scene with him finding out is at the beginning of Amazing Spider-Man #533, and the confrontation about it is the subject of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2005) #23, where Peter does the “baiting someone you love into punching you to make them feel better/speedrun them being mad at you” trope. Not as soft but they’re still fambily.
Tumblr media
TRAGIC IRONY VERSION: Honorable mention goes to What If? (1977) #24, “What If Spider-Man Had Rescued Gwen Stacy?” As the names imply, this title explored hypotheticals and the status quo was as nothing to them. Here Peter’s identity is leaked to Jonah as a villain plot and he doesn’t go “maybe I should have slowed down and thought about it before reacting to this” until his work husband breaks up with him and takes the kids, leaving Jonah nothing but his empty crusade!
(Okay, Robbie takes Peter and Gwen. Betty’s allegiance is left unclear. On that note, since Betty is absolutely Peter’s work wife and Betty was at the Bugle first, does that make Peter Jonah’s work son-in-law?)
I love this timeline; it’s so wild. This one’s a tragedy and also hands down my personal favorite of the cited issues.
Tumblr media
So there’s 616(-adjacent) reveals ordered from least to most sad pretty much directly in accordance with how long Peter and Jonah have known each other when the ball drops. Probably sample them in chronological order and not how I listed them so you leave feeling gooey about how the Bugle family sticks together, instead of sad about Jonah’s internal clash between deep love and a fatal dose of go-getter attitude. Or don’t, I’m not in charge of you.
BASICALLY ACQUAINTANCES BUT STILL MANAGE TO BE DRAMATIC VERSION?: For completeness’ sake, there’s also a Jonah reveal in Ultimate Spider-Man (2009) #14-15, which is fairly different in tone because it’s set in a dimension where the history between the characters doesn’t run as deep, though they propped it up some by having Jonah have a “Spider-Man is good actually” reveal earlier (USM (2000) 131/retold with less Hulk and more newspaper in the two-shot Ultimatum: Spider-Man Requiem). I’m a main universe bitch, but I looked it up just now just in case the Peter’s-a-minor-here version is secretly super good, and the reveal itself just kind of happens, but for the fallout Ultimate Jonah, who barely fucking knows his Peter, immediately declares he’ll FIGHT THE WORLD for him and turns his paper into a pro-Spidey rag. So that’s fun. Actually I’m just going to inline the wham panel.
Tumblr media
I’d say to calm down, but you are a version of JJJ.
I’m queueing this for not the middle of the night but I’ll point the way to the cited issues in a reblog after I get back from voting.

hey um do you have fantastic four rec reads? Id enjoy fantastic four I think but I dont wana start too too old?
hey yeah i do !!!
mark waid's fantastic four which is f4 (1998) #60-70 and f4 (1961) #500-524
marvel knights 4
hickman's f4 and ff which alternate, here's a link, you need to scroll down a bit to find the f4 part
matt fraction's f4 and ff. this also alternates and i couldnt find a guide for it but i think it should tell you which issue is next at the end of issue
recs that arent really long runs:
spider-man/human torch (2005)
amazing spider-man #590, 591, 657
marvel two-in-one (2017)
marvel snapshot fantastic four
friendly neighborhood spider-man (2019) #2-4, #12-14
empyre fantastic four fallout
also important to mention that the f4 go missing for a bit after the events of secret wars, but you could probably just read the last issue of the event to see that happening if you want or just for context bc some of the comics might bring that up (two-in-one will)

FIVE TIMES JOHNNY STORM REMEMBERED SHIT THAT PETER PARKER SAID:
Johnny, baby, how long are we gonna pretend that you can’t stand Spidey’s guts?
“One of those guys that gives spidey a hard time?” [Spider-Man/Human Torch (2005) #3]
This was around those dark early days wherein things were,,, obviously a little rough for our local ship. But hey, that enemies to lovers trope gotta start somewhere amirite? Just like how Spideytorch apparently both thought each other was irrelevant yet here we have a protective boyfriend roasting his mans’ villain. We stan.
Tumblr media
“You said I was welcome!” [The Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #3] [Civil War II: The Spectacular Spider-Man (2016) #1]
Ah, who could ever forget that time Johnny was actually naked in Peter’s bed? Honestly I don’t know what to say. Canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Maybe a tiny fire extinguisher?” [Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man (2017) #1]
As much as Johnny hates to admit it, he knows his arachnid baby’s a genius and has admitted it several times. I love boyfriends giving/taking constructive criticism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Spidey told me the last time we met...” [Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #6]
Another one from our dark early days where Johnny supposedly hated our friendly neighborhood “animated insect” but still remembered one bit Spidey probably said mid rant the last time the two of them met up. Homeboy Johnny can’t even remember not to touch an alien transportation machine in Reed’s lab, and yet...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What about when...” [Spider-Man/Human Torch (2005) #5]
This prollyyyyy doesn’t count as something Peter said, but still, I love how Johnny remembered every single fight he’s had with Spidey. Even the ones with the clones. At this point Marvel is just homophobic ((iM KIDDING DON’T BE OFFENDED))
Tumblr media
bonus: one time Peter Parker remembered shit that Johnny Storm said [Marvel Team-Up #10] [Marvel Team-Up #11]
Tumblr media Tumblr media

(1/2) Regarding Kindred’s identity, I think a fact a lot people are glossing over is how he/she could have no relation to OMD or theories revolving around it as in the issue when Mysterio came back from the dead in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2005) Issue 12/13, he mentioned his “superiors/associates” which could refer to Kindred way before any of the events of OMD.
It could indeed although Peter David confirmed the intention was to set up OMD

hi i'd like to inform u that i recently finished spider-man blue and friendly neighborhood spider-man that u recommended forever ago and both made me cry so while ur having peter parker brainrot can you prescribe any more spidey recs to worsen my peter parker brainrot???
AHHHH YAY YES OF COURSE I HAVE MORE
stracyznski's asm run which runs from amazing spiderman (1999) #30-58 and then it gets renumbered to #500-545 (the renumbered issues can be found under asm 1963 if youre using rco)
kraven's last hunt is also a good read!! this is the reading order for it but again if youre using rco i thnk they already have the full thing without having to go through all the different titles (warning for suicide)
i think i may have recommended this last time but spider-man/human torch 2005 aka one of the only things dan slott has ever written :D
most of the arcs i would have recommended end up being in the stracyznski run i think so that should help your peter rot a whole lot :D one warning is that in his run you get the sins past arc and also the one more day arc (which were both editorial's decision but he was stuck w writing it) so that's gna be :/ but back in black is the leadup to one more day and back in black is actually like . really good so! bittersweet lol bc i love his run but also :(
also!! petermatt rec here bc i have to leave this to anyone that asks for peter guides :D
