Disney+ has greenlit a pilot for WITCH MOUNTAIN, a new take of the film franchise of yesteryear starring Bryce Dallas Howard (that also had an update featuring The Rock a while back).
Full cast list, and release (via Disney) below:
Tumblr media
Disney+ announced today a pilot greenlight for “Witch Mountain,'' a reimagining of the successful film franchise. The series is a modern reinvention of the cult classic that takes place in the shadow of “Witch Mountain,” following two teens that develop strange abilities and discover their sleepy suburb may not be as idyllic as it seems.
Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World: Dominion”) stars in the leading role as “Audrey,” Tia's devoted and loving mother.  Her husband died from a mental illness and she tries to reassure a fretful Tia that she shows no sign of following her father's dark spiral. A warm mama bear type, but like everyone in this town, not everything is as it seems.
Howard is a multi-hyphenate creator who continues to work both on-screen and behind the camera. As an actor, she recently starred alongside Chris Pratt in Universal’s “Jurassic World” franchise and next stars in Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller ”Argylle” for Apple TV+. Earlier this year, Howard lent her voice to the Star Wars character “Yaddle” in the animated Disney+ series “Tales of the Jedi.” Howard is represented by Entertainment 360, WME and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Isabel Gravitt (“The Watcher”), Levi Miller (“Streamline”), Bianca “b” Norwood (“We Crashed”) and Jackson Kelly  (“Straight Man”) have been cast in the pilot.
Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas co-wrote the pilot and are executive producers; Augustine Frizzell (“Euphoria”) will direct and is executive producer on the pilot.  John Fox and John Davis of Davis Entertainment are executive producing as well as Gary Marsh. The Disney Branded Television series is produced by ABC Signature, part of Disney Television Studios.
Tumblr media
Isabel Gravitt (series regular) as “Tia,” a straight-A student who's regarded by her classmates as “perfect,” although she regards herself as flawed. She's terrified of failure and is plagued by nightmares and fears that her late father's schizophrenia is starting to exhibit itself in her. Tia has “hallucinations” in which people around her step outside their living bodies and voice their deepest, darkest fears and desires and rages. Gravitt is known for her series regular role as “Ellie Brannock” in Netflix's hit limited series "The Watcher." She made her debut in CBS's pilot "The History of Us" and had recurring roles in ABC's "American Housewife" and Hulu's "Little Fires Everywhere." Gravitt is represented by Buchwald and Randy James Management.
Tumblr media
Levi Miller (series regular) as “Ben,” a troubled teen who makes ends meet by writing papers for other students but he's got a hot temper and if he slugs another student, he'll be expelled. Ben is best friends with Corey, his co-worker at the diner. He’s recently made a troubling discovery about himself, he can force others in his vicinity to move according to his will and there's something drawing him inexplicably in the direction of Tia. Miller is best known for his roles in “Pan,” “A Wrinkle in Time” and “Better Watch Out.” Most recently, he was seen in the indie film “Streamline,” is also starring in Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter,” and attached to the upcoming British indie “Beach Boys.” Miller is repped by Verve, Rogue Management in the UK, Eaton Management in Australia and attorneys Fred Toczek and Jared Blo
Tumblr media
Bianca “b” Norwood (series regular) as “Corey,” Ben's closest friend, an outsider with tattoos, Corey is a very mature teen who comes across older than they are. They are one step away from expulsion and puts more care into looking like a My Chemical Romance song that became an anime fan.  Corey works at the local diner alongside Ben and is in his circle of trust, but doesn't appreciate it when he tries to act as their protector. Norwood most recently starred in the New York Theatre Workshop production of "American (Tele)visions.'' Most recently, they can be seen in the AppleTV+ series “We Crashed,” as well as the Showtime series “Let the Right One In,” and can be heard voicing a lead role in the new QCODE fantasy podcast series “Birds of Empire.”  Norwood is represented by Innovative and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
Tumblr media
Jackson Kelly (series regular) as “Peter,” Tia's closest male friend. Peter is lovesick on the subject of Tia, but she's unaware of his charms, and equally unaware of his devotion. But when Tia expresses her concerns about the seemingly impossible happenings around them, she learns that Peter's observant, cautious nature might be an asset in figuring out the mystery around them. Jackson has a busy year ahead with the release of his major recurring role in the highly anticipated AMC series “Straight Man” and “Hard Miles.” He’s currently starring in the fifth installment of the cult-followed Shudder franchise “V/H/S/99.” Kelly is represented by Talent Works and 11:11 Entertainment.

SXSW 2023: A Small Light
Tumblr media
The official synopsis for “A Small Light:”  “Based on an inspiring true story, Miep Gies was  young, carefree and opinionated — at a time when opinions got you killed ― when Otto Frank asked her to help hide his family from the Nazis during WWII." "Told with a modern sensibility, A SMALL LIGHT shakes the cobwebs off of history and makes Miep’s story feel relevant, forcing audiences to ask themselves what they would have done in Miep’s shoes; and in modern times, asking if they would have the courage to stand up to hatred. Some stood by, Miep stood up.”  The powerful, eight-part limited series is produced by ABC Signature and Keshet Studios. “A Small Light,” an 8-part series, premieres Monday, May 1, at 9/8c on National Geographic with two back-to-back episodes The series stars Bel Powley as Miep and Liev Schreiber as Otto Frank. Anne Frank is portrayed by 17-year-old British actress Billie Boulet (“The Worst Witch,” “The Power”) and her older sister, Margot, is played by Ashley Brooke (“The White House Plumbers,” “Troop Zero”). Ashley shared during the Q&A that her own grandmother was a Holocaust concentration camp survivor. The opening episodes of the series build the character of Miep.  “A Small Light” is the story of Miep Gies ; Born. Hermine Santruschitz. 15 February 1909. Vienna, Austria-Hungary (Now Austria) ; Died, 11 January 2010 (2010-01-11) (aged 100)in Hoorn, Netherlands. Miep was sent to Amsterdam from her native Vienna, Austria to be raised by the Gies family because her health was fragile. Her nuclear family felt it was in her best interests to relocate her to Amsterdam. There she could receive medical care and enjoy a generally better quality of life. She remained in Amsterdam for the rest of her life. Miep, as portrayed by Bel Powley (“The Morning Show,” “The King of Staten Island,” “White Boy Rick“) seems carefree and lighthearted and not that interested in either working or settling down. Her adopted family has conversations with her about the possibility of Miep marrying her adopted brother, to alleviate the hardship for the family as they continue to support Miep during war-time. This detail about Miep’s potential marriage to someone she regarded as her brother was factual. It was uncovered during research by show creators Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, a married couple. Miep's brother being gay, however, was a poetic license, based on the gay community’s fervent support for the Resistance in Amsterdam during WWII. The co-creators also shared that their extensive research for the series was all donated to the Anne Frank House/Museum at the end of filming. Joan arrived late for the Q&A due to flight delays. She explained that she and her husband were touring the Anne Frank home in Amsterdam. They became intrigued by the untold story of Miep Gies, the young woman who stepped up to help hide Otto Frank and his family when the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. The sets were exact recreations of the space in which the Franks hid; exterior shots of the street were filmed on location in Amsterdam. Miep is naïve about how bad things will become for Jewish residents of the Netherlands. (“Hitler won’t come here. We’re neutral.”) She is, at first, among those Dutch citizens who cannot believe that the Germans will invade their peaceful city and country. Others, who are more practical, are convinced that Hitler will, in fact, invade. May 10-15, 1940:  The Queen fled to London and the Netherlands fell to the Nazis in five days. Miep is proven wrong in her optimistic belief that “all will be well.” She becomes very active in helping Jews go into hiding, not only helping the Franks build a secret hideaway above Otto’s Opetka office but also helping hide other Jewish families in the city. Once the Franks are in hiding, securing food for them will fall to Miep, and it is not an easy task since ration books are the order of the day. Miep, simultaneously, has a romance with a bookish young man named Jan, played by Joe Cole (“Peaky Blinders”). Jan tells Miep that he is actually already married to someone else, but just doesn’t have enough money to finalize the divorce. That was an odd beginning to their courtship. (His haircut was even odder.) Miep is shown ditching Jan at a club, as she initially found his bookish ways (he is reading Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis”) boring. Ultimately, the couple discover they have many shared interests and they become a couple. Jan is played by Joe Cole (“Against the Ice,” “The Ipcress File”). As the couple becomes more and more involved in the Dutch Resistance—Miep in their neighborhood and Jan banding together with like-minded co-workers (he is a social worker)—the couple works together to solve problems such as how to secure extra ration books in order to feed the nine people hiding in the upper area above Otto Frank’s Opetka offices, accessed via a fake bookcase. It falls to the efforts and goodwill and chutzpah of  Good Samaritans such as Miep and Jan to hide and provide for the persecuted Jews. Miep hid the Franks for over 2 years. The Franks went into hiding on July 5, 1942. During that time, Miep was also helping hide other families. At one point, the Franks’ Jewish dentist, Dr. Pfeffer (Noah Taylor) must go into hiding with the Franks and their guests, and the Van Pels family also moves in. A line in the script, when husband Jan suggests that Miep should have shared her decision with him before saying yes to Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber with his hair shaved back to mid-pate), is, “I didn’t think I needed to consult you before agreeing to save someone’s life.” From the stage during the Q&A, Joan Rater shared with the audience that she and her husband (co-creator Tony Phelan, who directed 3 episodes and scripted others) have a son about the age that Miep was when she was asked to help hide the Franks. It was being in Amsterdam and thinking about the way in which their own son might react that was the genesis of the largely untold story of Miep Gies. POTENTIAL SPOILERS Most of us are familiar with “The Diary of Anne Frank.” Only Otto survived being imprisoned. Edith (the mother) died at Auschwitz. Anne and Margot were transferred to Birkenau and died there of typhus.   As for Miep Gies, the focus of this film, she lived to be almost 101. When the Franks were arrested in August of 1944, possibly turned in by neighbors or by the cleaning person at Otto’s business, Miep Gies and Bep Voskuijl were not arrested. Miep managed to excuse herself by saying she knew nothing of those in hiding. Miep and two others would rescue Anne’s diary before the Nazis cleared out the hiding place. They would eventually return the papers to Otto Frank. Anne’s father would see that Anne's writing was published (initially as “Diary of a Young Girl”).   New episodes will debut every Monday at 9/8c and 10/9c on National Geographic and will stream the next day on Disney +. The timeliness of the script, plus the excellent performances and on-site location shooting, have this series marked for nominations during awards season.   Read the full article

Keanu Reeves will no longer star in the Hulu series adaptation of “The Devil in the White City,” Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
The show was first put into development at Hulu in 2019 and was officially ordered to series at the streamer in August 2022. It is based on the book of the same name by by Erik Larson.
Per the official logline, the show “tells the true story of Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the man behind the notorious ‘Murder Castle’ built in the Fair’s shadow.”
Reeves was cast as Burnham in what would have been his first major American television role, but the search is now on for a replacement. No one has been cast as Holmes at the time of this publishing.
Reps for Hulu declined to comment. Reps for Reeves did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.
Martin Scorsese, Rick Yorn, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson of Appian Way, Stacey Sher, Sam Shaw, and Mark Lafferty serve as executive producers on the series. Sam Shaw is adapting the book for the screen and will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Lila Byock also executive producing. ABC Signature will produce in association with Paramount Television Studios.
This is the latest chapter in the long development history of the book. DiCaprio acquired the rights in 2010 with plans to adapt it as a film in which he would star as Holmes. Scorsese came onboard to direct in 2015 with Billy Ray set to write the script. It was first put in development in Hollywood by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner through their Cruise/Wagner banner via the shingle’s deal with Paramount, but the option lapsed in 2004. Paramount reacquired the film rights in 2007 and set it up with producers Michael Shamberg and Sher.

Ellen Pompeo is set to star in a limited series inspired by real events that has been ordered at Hulu, Variety has learned.
In the untitled show, a Midwestern couple adopts what they believe is an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is. As they question her story, they’re confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they’re willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that’s fought in the tabloids, the courtroom, and ultimately their marriage.
Hulu has given the series an eight-episode order. Katie Robbins (“The Affair,” “The Last Tycoon”) is writing and executive producing, with Pompeo set to executive produce under her Calamity Jane production banner. Erin Levy (“Mad Men,” “Counterpart”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Laura Holstein of Calamity Jane will also executive produce along with Mike Epps, Dan Spilo, Niles Kirchner, and Andrew Stearn. ABC Signature is the studio, with Calamity Jane currently under an overall deal there.
With the series order, Pompeo is expected to have a reduced onscreen role in the upcoming Season 19 of the ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy.” Variety has confirmed she will appear in eight episodes of the new season but will continue to narrate every episode in addition to serving as an executive producer.

Dolly Parton And The Story Between These Stars And Wigs
Wigs have become increasingly relevant to our lives, and celebrities are no exception. Today let's take a look at the story of these stars and wigs!
Dolly Parton without wig
Tumblr media
We all know Dolly Parton, we absolutely love her and adore her. Her signature country glamour style is recognized worldwide, her distinctive million dollar smile has earned her millions of fans, and she has achieved incredible success. Not only has she won a Grammy, but she has received many more prestigious accolades.
She is not only a singer but also an actress, appearing in movies such as "9 to 5", "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "Steel Magnolias". She proved her status time and time again. But Dolly is truly famous not only for her legendary talent or bosom, but also thanks to her trademark tousled wig.
In her book "The Songwriter: My Life in Lyrics," Dolly fondly shares how, as a teenager, she always dreamed of being able to afford and wear a wig at some point in her life. Growing up and coming out, she always wore her hair beautifully and wore a wig as she wished.
Not only because she always loved wigs, but also because her own hair was fine and flat and never really went the way she wanted it to. "My hair never does exactly what I want it to do," she says. She says , "So the wig became my trademark." Thus, the wig became her trademark. Over the years, her look changed constantly - in the '60s she wore tousled hair, then in the '70s she moved to styles with feathers and teasing, and then many times from high buns to longer styles. The icon absolutely loved her wigs, and even today, she never really gives up her big, sexy blonde wigs. She always says that her wigs are flattering and that wearing them suits her best. Through it all, she has truly epic hair.
It's safe to say that Dolly Parton has hundreds of custom wigs. But on the red carpet of a Netflix series called "The Heartstrings of Dolly Parton," the country singer confirmed that she actually owns hundreds of wigs. She noted that she wears one every day, so she must have at least 365. But when she runs out of wigs, she either sells them at auction to buy new ones or donates them to her museum in Tennessee.
Reveal:Dolly Parton without a wig
Tumblr media
It's hard to imagine Dolly without her signature hairstyle, but she does offer some vintage photos of her without it, and she looks gorgeous.
In 2018, she posted a vintage peek-a-boo photo of her in the studio on her Instagram In 2020, she shared the same snapshot again from a different angle, which caused quite a bit of confusion as fans flocked to her page to comment on how great her natural hair looked. Wig or no wig, Dolly Parton always looks the same.
Why did Brett Somers wear a wig?
Tumblr media
Born Audrey Johnston on July 11, 1924, Bret Summers is a Canadian-American actress, singer and game show panelist. She is best known for appearing as one of three regular panelists on CBS's Match Game and for her recurring role as Blanche Madison on the ABC sitcom The Odd Couple, opposite her real-life husband, Jack Klugman.
Somers is a familiar screen character, wearing big glasses and various wigs to accompany Charles. Her wigs and big glasses have quickly earned her a reputation since 1957.
Why does Brett Summers always wear a wig? "I don't want to look good to other people and then go home and look terrible," she says. Wigs have become a staple beauty accessory for celebrities, helping them keep up with the latest beauty styles and colors without having to take chances.
Did George Washington wear a wig?
Tumblr media
George Washington's hairstyle was iconic and simple, and most Americans probably recall it immediately - or they can at least relive the memory by pulling out a dollar or quarter.
When you picture George Washington, you probably think of a double-breasted blazer, matching breeches, a linen bow tie and a beautifully done white haircut. Most of us can immediately recall the iconic curly headband - but the story behind Washington's hair may surprise you.
Washington wore a low ponytail with a wide forehead and black ribbons tying them together. While most men who wore this style wore wigs, Washington's wig was natural - except for that off-white color. Older paintings of Washington actually show his natural hair color as reddish brown, which means his snow-white hair was likely dyed with wig powder.
Typically, 18th-century hairstyles are those of King Louis XVI, Mozart, and even Washington's successors, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who were known for their white, curly, ornate wigs.
Unlike those who chose to wear an already-styled wig over their natural hair, Washington's hair took longer to set each day. Being very obsessive about his appearance was a trait shared by Washington and his wife, Martha.
Despite common misconceptions, George Washington never actually wore a wig. He was one of five redheaded presidents who painted his hair white with wig powder, as white hair is still considered very fashionable and a sign of wealth and knowledge. However, the next four presidents, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe, did wear wigs.
Does Tucker Carlson wear a wig?
Tumblr media
California-born celebrity TV host, commentator and ardent supporter of former U.S. President Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson's hairstyle seems to have remained unchanged for nearly a decade. Especially after his famous Tucker Carlson Tonight show kicked off in 2016, his center-parted business haircut has somehow remained his signature look. That's probably why people, even some of the most famous TV personalities like Billy Bush, started asking about Tucker Carlson's lush, thick hair.
On The Tonight Show with Tucker Carlson on September 23, 2020, Tucker Carlson ditched his hair or wig; in fact, in this case, he wore a wig, to be precise. Quora, Reddit, Twitter and a host of other forums were soon bombarded with comments about the Lego issue. "Does Tucker Carlson wear a wig?" "Does Tucker Carlson wear a wig?" "Does Tucker Carlson wear a wig?"
Meanwhile, Carlson supporters packed Lego stores and not only that, according to former President Donald Trump, "We should all start buying Lego wigs!" The cornerstone of America's economic future will be Legos. Well, that's what followers and loyalists do, isn't it? Does Tucker Carlson wear a wig? We need a valid answer! Yes, Tucker Carlson did wear a wig at some point.

‘History of a Pleasure Seeker’ Pilot Not Moving Forward at Hulu (EXCLUSIVE)
The “History of a Pleasure Seeker” pilot is not moving forward and will not be be picked up to series at Hulu, Variety has learned exclusively.
The show was first ordered to pilot at the streaming service back in March 2022. It was based on the Richard Mason novel of the same name. Per the official logline, the show was a musical drama “set in Amsterdam in 1907, a tale of a charismatic young man’s explosive adventures through all the temptations of the Belle Époque.”
The cast for the pilot included Carla Woodcock, Callum Kerr, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Olumide Olorunfemi, and Bebe Bettencourt.
“History of a Pleasure Seeker” was based on the Richard Mason novel of the same name. Mason adapted the novel for the screen and also served as an executive producer. Julie Anne Robinson directed and executive produced the pilot. Christopher Read executive produced in addition to serving as composer. Fremantle executive produced along with Jimmy Mulville of Hat Trick Productions and Michael Gracey. ABC Signature was the studio behind the pilot.
The decision to not move forward with the pilot comes about one month after Hulu picked up several other shows to series. Those include: a series adaptation of the book “Devil in The White City” with Keanu Reeves attached to star and Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese executive producing; an untitled orphan limited series starring Ellen Pompeo and Imogen Reid; and a series adaptation of the book “The Other Black Girl” with Rashida Jones attached as an executive producer.

The Walt Disney Company to Purchase Remaining Stake in Hulu from Comcast
The Walt Disney Company announced Yesterday that it will acquire the 33% stake in Hulu, LLC held by Comcast Corp.’s, following Comcast’s November 1 exercise of its right under the put/call arrangement between the two companies. The acquisition of Comcast’s stake in Hulu at fair market value will further Disney’s streaming objectives.
Under the terms of the put/call arrangement, by December 1, Disney expects it will pay NBCU approximately $8.61 billion, representing NBCU’s percentage of the $27.5 billion guaranteed floor value for Hulu that was set when the companies entered into their agreement in 2019 minus the anticipated outstanding capital call contributions payable by NBCU to Disney. Under the appraisal process agreed to by Disney and Comcast, Hulu’s equity fair value will be assessed as of September 30, 2023, and if the value is ultimately determined to be greater than the guaranteed floor value, Disney will pay NBCU its percentage of the difference between the equity fair value and the guaranteed floor value. While the timing of the appraisal process is uncertain, we anticipate it should be completed during the 2024 calendar year.

what-if: the muppets season 2
EPISODE 201--SIDELINED LOVE
When Kermit and Miss Piggy return from Thailand, they discover that the studio vandalized. Meanwhile, Scooter starts searching for a place of his own.
____
Kermit sits in his car, staring at the sterling wheel. "I'm up a little earlier this morning because I'm picking up Piggy to go for breakfast, and it's, uh, it's going to go well. I can feel it. But first, we're going to check out the studio and see how it's holding up." He stares at the cameraman in the passenger seat.
[the muppets theme card]
Miss Piggy sits in the passenger seat, fixing her hair to her signature style. "How's Robin?"
Kermit smiles at the thought of his nephew. "He's okay considering what happened."
"He's growing up too fast for me."
"Tell me about it," he stops at the redlight and takes the time to appreciate Piggy in her morning attire. "Has anyone told you that you look beautiful in the morning?"
Piggy smiles at the frog. "Other than you? Everyone."
He chuckles as he continues to drive on. "They have great taste then."
The pair sit in the car ride for another thirty minutes, give or take with the multiple redlights.
Piggy, then, looks in front of her and mutters, "Oh my God."
Kermit stares at the sight of the studio exterior vandalized with hate messages.
Cancel the pork!
Pigs belong at the farm, not on our screens!
CAMERA INTERVIEW:
"I thought people were past this sort of thing when I left Sesame Street," Kermit says with a sigh. The camera pans to Piggy reading the messages. "I know Piggy's strong, but exactly how much can a pig take?" He shakes his head. "I'm gonna get to the bottom of this."
END OF CAMERA INTERVIEW
Kermit's face contorts into an angry stance. "Let's check inside."
The two make their way inside to find the interior studio untouched.
"Boss, what happened? There's a lot of, uh, things outside." Chip, the I.T. guy asks, holding up his glasses.
"Angry ABC workers," Sam waltz in. "There's footage of the whole thing. I think it may have something to do with you two."
Kermit stares, dumbfounded. "As in, Piggy and myself?"
"Precisely."
Piggy looks around the studio. "I need coffee and time to think." She doesn't waste any time to head to the coffee station to do just that before heading to her dressing room.
***
Scooter sits at Color-Me-Mine with his computer in hand.
"Hey, Scooter," Susan, a fellow artist asks. "What're you up to?"
"Looking for a new apartment. I really can't take another day of Kevin's 'You're my sneaky-poo' to my mother. " Scooter replies.
The younger mother adores his mother. she's his best friend, but Kevin is one questionable...thing. He secretly thinks he's some alien from another galaxy. Don't tell him aliens don't exists--he hangs out with the Electric Mayhem too much.
A few minutes later, the camera turns to reveal Rizzo who runs to him with a stack of papers.
"Aye, yo, what's up?" Rizzo asks.
"Looking for a new apartment, why?" The gofer says.
"Well, you're in luck because I have some ideas." Rizzo slams the stack onto Scooter's computer.
Scooter eyes the stack. "The last time I took something from you, I was nearly arrested for fraud."
"...But it's different now, I promise and that's a Rat promise."
Scooter takes that into consideration.
CAMERA INTERVIEW:
"I know I shouldn't trust Rizzo, but he made a scout promise and those never get broken."
END OF CAMERA INTERVIEW
"Alright, I'll take a look at them."
***
Uncle Deadly sits on her recliner with his feet propped up as he holds a glass of margarita. "Piggy, dear, I cannot express how sorry I am for this unforgivable behavior from some scum- infested beings. "
Piggy turns to him with a sad smile. "Thanks, Deadly."
"What's the matter, deary?"
She shifts so she's now sitting up and leaning her head against the couch cushion behind her. "I just started to feel okay with the fact that I'm a pig, and now this happens. It's hard for women to make it this far on their own, but I did it; still, it's even harder if you're a woman and a pig."
"If they refuse to accept you for you, that's their issue. You are you, and that's enough for anyone who truly loves and respects you."
"I guess you're right."
"Of course, I am."
CAMERA INTERVIEW:
"It's a childish act to plaster hate on a building and call it art. I'll tell you what it's called, it's--" He starts to let out something colorful but is stopped. "Oh, I can't say that? How unfortunate."
END OF CAMERA INTERVIEW
"You know where to find me, love." Deadly says and bids his goodbye as he walks out the dressing room and Kermit walks in after him.
"You alright?" Kermit asks.
"Yeah, I'm just thinking about all the publicity." She sends him her signature smile.
"Sure."
***
Scooter looks inside an apartment, and it looks fairly decent for anyone living on their own for the first time. Rizzo walks behind him.
"What do you think?" Rizzo asks.
"It looks great and within my budget." Scooter says and explores the rest of the apartment.
"So, the landlord says you can move in as soon as you give the first month's rent and security deposit which runs you about $500." The rat explains.
"What's the monthly rent again?"
"$400 a month."
Scooter smiles and nods. "Let's do it."

Godfather of Harlem Title Sequence | EPIX from Peter S. Pak on Vimeo.
The Godfather of Harlem main title is an homage to the contemporaneous collages created during 1960s Harlem by African-American artist, Romare Bearden (1911-1988). He is best known for his photomontage compositions made from torn images of popular magazines and assembled into visually powerful statements on African-American life. We felt his art was appropriate to the show because it shared themes and portrayals of social inequality and the African-American experience that the show similarly explores. The tactile and tangible textures of collage as well as its ability to present and juxtapose different subjects from multiple sources within a single composition was highly influential to the main title design. “The cutting, fragmenting, and reconstruction involved in creating a collage provides apt metaphors for the trauma and violence of war and political oppression, the evisceration of the states quo, and the piecing together of new societal forms” (Rachael DeLue).
The main title INTENTIONALLY reflects many of the techniques, aesthetics, and themes of Romare Bearden, and is a purposeful design for the opening credits of the series not meant to stand separately from its cinematic purpose. Yet, much like how the show adds hiphop and other modern flairs that are anachronistic to the time period portrayed in the show, our main title also utilizes modern artistic principles for better readability by a modern audience. The complexities of Romare's collages, while appealing in its spellbinding intricacies, could prevent legibility of the credits or wouldn't read as well when only shown for a brief moment within the fast paced main title. Therefore, many of our Romare-inspired designs were simplified or redesigned in form and composition, from which similarities with modern and contemporary collages may have appeared in places. It is my hope that interest in the show and the main title will lead to a larger audience becoming newly aware of the artwork of Romare Bearden and other African-American artists.
It was a pleasure and honor to work on this project and give tribute to the fighters and activists of the past who fought for their American Dream, by any means necessary. As a minority as well as a child of immigrants, many of the societal issues and themes explored within Godfather of Harlem resonates with me. History does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes. Whether it is equal rights, income inequality, racism, or drugs—to name a few—the show reveals how similar and relevant these issues remain to this day. It reminds us that the fight for the American Dream is an ongoing struggle, and each new generation has an obligation to bring forth positive change.
