I desperately need the Thrawn stans (specifically novel Thrawn Stans) to remember that Thrawns whole deal is rebuilding the Empire and fighting the New Republic.

#I see so many people saying Thrawn wouldn't attack the New Republic when that's literally his whole deal. #He's the guy who rebuilds the Empire and attacks the Republic. #The famous story he's in that influenced the rest of Star Wars is about him trying to rebuild the Empire and destroy the Republic. #Also Thrawns evil. #I need you to remember that Thrawns an evil imperialist. Reading Outbound Flight right after Lesser Evil is such a uniquely painful experience, because up to the last moments Thrass is safe. He is fine. There is no way for him to be in danger. And then he is. Just simple miscommunication, and he is gone. He is gone and in that same moment his brother is certain all has worked out fine, so blissfully unaware that he has died for a people that was no his, only distantly for the safety of the Ascendancy and more so for that of misguided group of republic citizens that should have never made it out alive...

I'm thinking about Hera's "were you ever in the war / just waited to see who came out on top" a lot

it's just curious, to me, that she doesn't ask "were you a rebel", she asks "were you in the war"

and I guess yes Hera could just be making the inherent implication that by "in the war" she means "fighting on my side" but we don't know that

and it kind of speaks to a certain way of thinking about politics on the writers' part and also makes me deeply uneasy???

#we waited for so long #some of us wrote really beautiful and nuanced fanfics of the events that might follow #there was incredible art and comics #and I loved every single one from the bottom of my heart #they also inspired me to do a few illustrations about that speculative future #I'm not mad I was 'wrong' about it #I'm mad that what we got was cheap and boring #when there was so much potential #and some incredibly talented people more than willing to lend their skills to make it the best story possible #yet those talents were ignored #or wasted and discarded for the sake of creating something more black and white #I guess there is the idea that the majority wouldn't enjoy complex characters and stories with layers #but if everything has to be either purely good or completely evil they shouldn't have brought in this character to begin with #there are plenty of evil characters that could be used instead #ironically this isn't even a fan take #it's literally from the creator of the character #but apparently he doesn't get a say in the matter either #needless to say I'm disappointed #I hope Zahn knows how much the book fans appreciate him and Thrawn #meanwhile I'm enjoying the fan content #and wanted to share some of mine #these are for those who'd like to purchase some physical items with them #but all the illustrations are also available in my art blog #might just take some digging to find them now
