We had a fabulous time visiting Batuu yesterday! Our outfits were comfortable and functional and well suited to what turned out to be a relatively cold and cloudy day in southern California. Disney cast members definitely seemed to interact with us more because we made the effort to dress up, and we got some lovely compliments from other guests, too. We were even gifted some BSO credit coins by random strangers who liked our outfits!
Tumblr media
It was Jack's first visit to Batuu, and while I did get to spend a little bit of time there with my mom in October, this was my first opportunity to really explore the entire area, browse through the shops, and sample all the food and drinks available. It was at least as cool as my first impression of it back in October, and Jack was impressed and delighted by all of it. We spent a good portion of the day just admiring all the details and world-building and excellent sets.
Jack has requested no photos, but I did manage to snag this pic of him blocking the camera like a victim of the paparazzi, lol.
Tumblr media
But look at those pleats! Both Jack and I are so pleased with how they turned out. Several of the Resistance jackets on display in the Rise of the Resistance queue had similar pleat details, and it was fun to look at them up close.
Tumblr media
Over this last weekend and all the way up to late Monday night, I was able to add a few last details to our outfits. I finally adjusted the chain length of my dangley earrings and glued the leather cording wraps to the back of my kyber crystal necklace so that it wouldn't slip out. While I had the glue out, I figured I'd take a stab at making some spat-type things to cover the lacings of my tall Doc Marten boots. I was completely winging it from start to finish, but I'm really happy with how they turned out!
The spats are made from some left over suede I've had in my stash for literally more than 20 years now -- it's been used for an Aragorn vest for Jack, a couple of bags for me, and the inner layers of the big wedge shaped piece on my Oswin belt. And I still have some left over! Maybe I'll make myself a belt pouch to match these spats at some point in the future.
Tumblr media
The narrow end of each spat tucks under the laces closest to the toe of my boot, and theoretically secures to itself with a hook and eye, though I found the hook didn't really hold from that angle, and really wasn't necessary anyway. The straps then velcro around the back of my leg, at the lowest point of the bend of my ankle, and right at the top of the boot, so that the strap sits just above the top edge of the boot in the back, which helps keep it from slipping down.
To make these I really just draped scrap suede on my boot while wearing it, started cutting it to the shape I thought might make sense, then copied that over for a second spat. I measured how much I would need for the straps and how much of an overlap I wanted for the velcro, then cut out all those pieces and glued them together using E6000 -- which works wonderful for adhering velcro to suede and suede to suede, but is a bit more iffy with the metal hooks and eyes (one eye popped off when I was taking off the spat at the end of the night, but since it wasn't staying hooked anyway, I'm not fussed).
Despite being such a quick off-the-cuff project, the spats worked out great, and added that last little bit to my outfit by covering the laces of my boots. They're visible in the third photo, the full-length shot in front of the door (and in the video below), and I think they add an understated bit of texture difference in all the black-on-black there, in addition to obscuring the modern look of the boots a bit.
Besides those detail bits for me, I also made a pair of little pockets for Jack's jacket, to hold 'code cylinders'. It's a tiny detail that really makes the jacket look that much more Star Wars-y, and the cylinders themselves are empty and their tops unscrew, so the space can actually be functional, too. (Currently they're filled with gum!)
Tumblr media
And at Jack's request, I threw together a quick insert for the zipper section on his collar that used to hold the hood before we removed it. The hood was making the collar too puffy, but without it the collar didn't have enough body to stand up on its own.
I took some measurements, then cut a piece of cotton duck canvas (that I had originally bought to cover the zippers on my Moment vest, before I changed gears and made the Batuu vest instead) to the right length and about three times the height of the interior of the hood section. I did a simple zigzag tri-fold on the height, ironed it flat, and marked some guide lines perpendicular to the length. Then it was just a simple process of quilting the three layers together by machine sewing in short vertical rows ~1cm apart.
Tumblr media
The quilting gave the canvas even more stiffness, and after that point it absolutely did not want to fold or droop along the short vertical axis. I slipped it into the former hood pocket (after snipping one corner to fit around the snap I hadn't accounted for), zipped it closed, and gave the whole collar area a quick pressing. It's removable if we ever need to, completely washable, and keeps the collar standing upright without looking too stiff. Jack was very happy with the result.
With our outfits finally done, we headed into the park around mid-morning, with a plan to stay late. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with Batuu Bounding at Disneyland (which is notoriously a bit more hit-and-miss than Batuu East, in Florida), but we got through security without incident and through the rest of the park without anyone commenting on our outfits. We saw someone else wearing the same leather-look leggings as me, and a guy wearing similar jacket and pants to Jack (but without the pleating), which made us feel like we didn't look too weird, by general Disneyland standards.
Tumblr media
Once we were in Batuu, though, our bounding definitely got noticed more. A couple of fellow guests complemented our outfits (including the kind strangers who gave us the coins!), and cast members seemed way more interested in interacting with us in-character. I got to bring up a bit about the history I'd made up for Samæni Ray -- which led to one cast member later referring to me and Jack as "my friends from Denon!" All of the prep and character design made it a lot easier to think on my feet in those little improv interactions.
One cast member in particular kept finding us throughout the day, just suddenly appearing out of nowhere it felt like, and kept trying to sell us a speederbike that totally wasn't a broken down lemon.
Tumblr media
Later in the day, he kind of sold us out to Kylo Ren and a pair of stormtroopers (but like, in a fun way, lol) which led to an intense interaction with Kylo Ren right up in both my face and Jack's. Kylo Ren is tall, and the voice and the mask and the body language was all perfect up close. There was a bit of nervous laughter on our part, but we kept our cool and convinced Ren that that since we'd only just arrived on Batuu from Denon, we couldn't possibly know anything about any Resistance activity in Black Spire Outpost.
We were way too in the moment to get any photos, but because we were dressed up and Kylo Ren was so much up in our faces, we did draw a bit of a crowd, so for all I know other people may have taken pictures or videos of the event, lol. My family has a saying about 'look hard' rather than take photos, and it was definitely that for us.
Overall the whole day was wonderful, and we ended up spending nearly 12 hours in Batuu without leaving once. I got to pilot the Falcon multiple times (though I can't really say I've gotten any better at it, lol), and got to try out gunner and engineer, too. We managed to ride Rise of the Resistance both during the day and again after dark, explore every part of Black Spire Outpost in detail, learn to play Sabacc with a cast member, have drinks at Oga's, and eat a bunch of really tasty, really well-presented food.
Tumblr media
All together it was an excellent, excellent birthday. And we're already talking about when we might want to go back again.

Port Lllamante cantina. It is the night before the visitors from Batuu will leave again and Kylo has promised the locals something special for tonight.

Elderly patron: "Oh! So bright! I've seen rooms so brightly lit only when I was younger, in space ports."
Patron in a vest: "The black haired hippie replaced the old lamps with modern ones, and all on the First Order, no charges for the cantina owner. The technicians even modernized the town's grid, so that it wouldn't crash under the new lamps' load."
Pink haired patron: "I hear that man is close to the new Supreme Leader. Looks like that one is worlds better than late Snoke!"

Elderly patron: "As a village elder, I say we invite the First Order to Selvadorada and offer to join them! That agent of theirs has proved to understand our legacy and will help us develop the planet respectfully and in accordance with our customs."
Patron in a vest: "I'm in favour! For what they can do for us, I'd even be willing to take up arms, should the Resistance come knocking at our door!"

I ended up spending most of yesterday fixing some fit issues with the scrappy sweatshirt -- which has somehow morphed into the Jyn Erso Sweatshirt in my mind, between the color and the sleeve details and the Star Wars-iness of it all.
I was hoping to finish it yesterday, but the fit issues were worth spending the time on, I think. Sewing on one of the sleeves revealed a large, weird bubble at the back of the armscye, and in dealing with that I ended up taking a chunk out of the tops of both the side back and side front panels where they connect with center back and center front, which fixed most of the issue I was seeing with the excess fabric problem.
But at that point the shirt was a weird in-between of not quite fitted enough, so I mentioned to Jack that I was thinking about taking out the two rectangular side panels that together were adding about 5" of width to the shirt. He suggested I just use a plain seam to take it in, instead of picking out all the stitching. That took out about 4" of that 5" width and resulted in a shirt that's significantly more fitted while still loose enough to pull on over my head. It also turned into this really cool seam detail at the side seam:
Tumblr media
Of course, that'll be completely covered by the fitted vest I'll be wearing over top for our Batuu outing, but I like the way this sweatshirt turned out so I'll probably end up just wearing it on its own with jeans or whatever, too.
Once I had the body fitting the way I wanted it to, I fitted the sleeve into the armscye more or less by pinning it in place while wearing it. I was extra careful to match the inset panel on the sleeve with the inset panel on the shoulder, and I ended up having more fabric at the back of the shoulder than I needed (the other thing that was causing that weird bubble, as it turns out) but with the lapped seam and fitting it while wearing it, that was easy to shift that out and then trim it down later. I also ended up taking in the long seam of the sleeves themselves, so that the width matched up with the smaller armscye. The sleeves are completely fitted now, but there's enough stretch in this fabric that it's still comfortable and I have full range of motion.
With the sleeves attached, I was able to try the whole thing on and mark a couple of changes I wanted to make to the neckline and to level out the lower hem. I trimmed those to shape, then added the same sort of hem finish that I used for the sleeves: a narrow panel cut parallel to the knitted grain of the fabric, and thus unlikely to either roll or fray too badly. And with that, I could call the scrappy Jyn Erso Sweatshirt finished!
Tumblr media
At some point in the next two and a half weeks, I want to gently hand-wash it to get all the chalk markings off, and then probably let it air dry. In the future I plan to throw this shirt in the wash with everything else, but for right now I don't want to risk something unraveling and needing fixed before I wear it to Batuu.
The other thing I may want to fiddle with later is the collar trim. When I wear it under the vest, it lays flat and sticks out exactly as much as I was hoping it would, for just a little bit of contrast color right at the neckline. But when it's worn on its own the neckline doesn't feel quite right. It probably just needs a couple of little darts at the shoulders to help it lay flatter against my neck -- or I might chop it down to a narrower width and let that be the solution. But either way, it's not something I'm going to mess with this month.
So with the shirt officially done and wearable, I can get back to fitting the vest. I left some pins in it from the last set of alterations I was thinking about, right before I decided to pause that project and make the sweatshirt to wear under it. But as soon as I put it on with the sweatshirt, I could see that my alterations were in the wrong place -- largely because I'd just done something similar with the sweatshirt.
During my last try-on a week or so ago, I had thought I needed to pinch in the top of the armscye to keep it from gaping over the cap of my shoulder, but that was making the bust fit weird, so I had started pinning that to take it in, before deciding that I really needed to be able to fit it over the shirt I'd be wearing it with.
With the complete flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants nature of the sweatshirt project, I had come to realize that my pattern for both the sweatshirt and the vest (and probably a bunch of other things, come to think of it) are way too small through the shoulder, especially on the center front panel. The center back seems to be fine, weirdly.
So instead of pinching out a triangle from the armscye to the neckline, I seam ripped the shoulder seam and sewed an extra rectangle of fabric onto the shoulder of the front panels, being careful to match the grain lines. I've pinned a new shoulder seam in place -- the same shape as the alteration I had previously pinned, but now with two or three extra inches of height between the shoulder and the bust.
It's gotten too dark to try to fit this very dark blue fabric in the mirror so I've set it aside to finalize tomorrow, but I could already tell that the bust is fitting much better, now that it's sitting where it should be instead of trying to float two or three inches too high. I may not even have to make any adjustments to the bust itself, but I'll wait until tomorrow to decide, after I can see the vest in bright daylight.
Besides that, there are a couple of other tiny changes I want to make -- lowering the curve of the part of the neckline that folds over, bringing in the flare over the hips at the side seam just slightly, and trimming off the extra length especially in the back panels. Those are all very simple changes, so I'm hoping to get through them all tomorrow while the light is good.
Then I'll be able to transfer all those changes to the paper pattern and cut out the exterior fabric from this same blue linen. The lining will have a seam where I added to the front shoulder, but unless it shows through really obviously, I'm not planning to re-cut the lining. I'm hoping to put some pockets in that'll live between the exterior and the lining anyhow, so I'm not too worried about that one extra seam showing through. And worst case I'll just re-cut that piece of the lining, since I should have enough linen left over after the exterior is cut.
Once I've got the exterior cut out and assembled, it'll be down to attaching the exterior to the lining and finishing all the edges, then adding the zipper and any other closures, and adding pockets if I have time. There are a few other detail things I'd like to do for my outfit if I have time (covering up laces and buckles, mostly), but all of that will only happen after both the vest and Jack's jacket are finished.
Still lots to do, but I'm feeling really good about my progress, and how cool everything looks. The sweatshirt isn't something I could have imagined and sketched out in its final form, but I am thrilled with the ways that necessity led to such interesting design details. I wanted something long-sleeve in that blue-gray color, and I ended up with something so much better than that, something I just love.
I tried on all the pieces of my outfit together, and I'm really happy with the look overall, and particularly the way the sleeves of the sweatshirt work with the vest and the hooded wrap and my little fingerless leather gloves. I can't wait to get the vest done and really see the final effect of all these pieces I've made. Less than three weeks to go now, but it's easy to stay focused and motivated when everything just looks so wonderful.
More pictures and updates to come as I continue to check things off of my list!

Question for any folks who have experience with Batuu Bounding/Disneyland!
I'm going to Galaxy's Edge for the first time very soon, and I'm both extremely excited but also terrified I'll do something wrong. I've been wanting to go since it was first announced, and I'm not sure when I'll get another opportunity so I want to make this count!
I love dressing up so of course i want to try Batuu Bounding (dressing up in-universe), but my personal sense of what counts as costumey or not is extremely skewed. Adults are technically not allowed to wear costumes inside Disneyland, but people are also encouraged to "dress like a local" when visiting Batuu, aka Galaxy's Edge, aka Star Wars land. This creates a very gray zone on what counts as a costume and what is Batuu bounding.
I've tried to do a ton of research on my own, reading the official rules, blogs, and even reddit, but would appreciate any feedback, especially if you have personal experience! Note, I'll be going to Disneyland, aka Disney West, aka Anaheim, California.
So my question: Do you think they'll let me in with these outfits?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Technically I'm following their guidelines:
-Not attempting to look like any official character
-No robes/cape (just a scarf that can be adjusted)
-No weapons except lightsaber (yes, it's the Visions one from Lop & Ochō. I'm Japanese, I thought it fitting I get the Japanese lightsaber lol)
-No hard armor—except the back of glove plates, which are really small and I think I've seen people with those? After receiving advice on Twitter, I'm just gonna leave the gloves off entirely, better not to risk it plus they're gonna be uncomfy anyway
-Nothing dragging on ground
-No costume pieces; both of the above outfits are a combination of traditional Japanese-style, J-punk/rock, alternative, and natural cotton/linen fashion, all of which I wear regularly as part of my daily wardrobe (see what I mean by "my sense of what counts as too costumey is extremely skewed" LMAO)
-I know they have a "no masks" rule, but mine is a COVID mask, and they allow those right? If the outer mask protector is too costume-y, I can defs take it off, but I ain't going without any mask.
-My "I am not a cast member" item is the jetpack backpack, but idk I don't think I look like a cast member
I was gonna make the black dress one main but I think I liked the second one with vest and kama more (let's see if I can tolerate wearing pants all day lmao). Everything is layered, can easily mix 'n match tops/bottoms, I have a few other color variation tops I can mix in too. I also think Cali is gonna be way warmer than I'm expecting so I may shed layers. For now I'm thinking of making my main day the second one, except instead of a green shirt under the green vest, I'll wear a black one.
Also, note that while my True Mandos leather patch is skewed on the green outfit in the above photos, it'll be properly attached on the day of. I just wanted it lightly attached for a quick try-on photo, but it can securely attach via pins on the back! (also yes, that is a mini Fennec-inspired light-up Greeblie <3 )
Also a few more closeups:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The empty strap thing is a harness to carry a Droid Depot droid, which I have a reservation to build on the first droid. The casings holder thing on the strap that makes it look like a bandolier are kyber crystal holders. I also have an empty leather holder for a detonator soda can and yet another kyber crystal holder on my belt. After getting advice on Twitter, I'm going to put all of these in my bag when I enter the park to reduce how cluttered I look at the entrance, since they're technically all things to carry stuff I will be buying inside the park but do not yet have.
I have a giant mythosaur brooch on my scarf, but it's not solid metal, but a resin-metal mix. I think it should count as a "pin" and not armor.
The thing on my left arm is a decked out Magicband+. I still have no idea how to use it but I hope it will be intuitive ^ ^;
(yeah, so many Etsy sellers have received my money over the past half year that has passed since I started planning for this trip lmao)
I also received feedback on Twitter that my lightsaber sheath looks too much like a katana which may trigger security, so I'm going to be making a little end cap for it to make it look blunter. It's a nice Pixel blade attached to an expensive Proffie lightsaber, so I do want to protect it, and hope a blunted endcap will make it clearer that it's a lightsaber.
I'll probably only bother with the droid carrier + lightsaber + kyber crystal bandolier on one of the three days I'm there, so I can travel lighter on my other days!
I'm really hoping I'll get to talk to Boba/Fennec/Din on at least one of the 3 days I'm there, which is one of the reasons why I've got so much Mando stuff on (in addition to just, trying to make a "bounty hunter" look, and also eyyy Mandos). Idk if it's too subtle or if they'll ignore me bc I'm trying too hard sobs
So yeah, with my aforementioned modifications, do you think they'll let me in?
Any feedback, opinions, or even general advice for a first time visitor to Batuu would be immensely appreciated <3
Thanks so much!!! ;A;

Wondering what he should do with he new "freedom", Daniel followed a call from Connor to the Knights' space station.
Daniel liked the idea of visiting the place where his kyber crystal had grown, of course. But what the heck was Connor Sonderan of all people doing out here?
Tumblr media
Connor: "You know that I want to study both aspects of the Force.
This place is the best source for dark side lore, but the Knights refuse to let me use their library and training facilities."
Tumblr media
Daniel: "Yeah, what a surprise. I mean, who would turn down a man who openly walks around with a Resistance fan vest?”
Connor: "Oh, stop rubbing it in! YOU try getting a fancy robe when you're pinned to the ground in a shoddy hideout in the forest. Anyway, Master Tomax agreed to let me study here if I defeated a squire."
Tumblr media
Daniel: "I see. Alright, let's sweep the floor with you and send you back to Batuu with best regards from the Order of Ren."

Hello! I hit one of those follower milestones that we all like to grin about - thank you! I decided to share something to go with the last moodboard I posted, a story I started ages ago but that stalled out at chapter five. The opening is below, and I'm hoping I can get it going again and post it sometime this fall. I'm sure a few details will change, and I do hope to finish some shorter stories before then. But in the meantime, I hope you enjoy it - thanks for reading! :)
One
Poe already misses the ranch.
It’s been months since he's been home, seen his dad, even had a day off. Spending five days on Yavin 4 is exactly what he needed. He feels relaxed and recharged, ready to resume the job of co-General. He's fairly sure he's gained weight from all the eating and drinking they did, but that was what home was for him: koyo fruit and dark caf, roasted runyip steaks with kibla greens and sweetsand cookies for dessert. He hasn't eaten so well for months, maybe years.
Finn looks fairly content as well. Poe had been nervous about the trip, but it was past time to introduce Finn to Kes Dameron. Poe couldn't remember the last time he'd brought someone home, and he'd been a wreck until the moment his father had stepped forward, raised an eyebrow at Finn's outstretched hand, and pulled him into a tight embrace. Kes's eyes had been bright, and Poe had almost choked up; Finn had been stunned at the warm welcome.
Everything had been perfect after that. In fact, maybe a little too good as Poe had been ganged up on more than once by Finn and his father. But to watch them together, talking, laughing, even cooking (though Finn was a disaster of a cook, so he usually ended up doing the washing) was a joy. It made Poe want a life like that more than anything—a quiet life with someone he loved, near friends and family. It was what peace looked like.
Of course, he would probably be bored after a month, but he could still think about it, couldn't he?
For now, there is still work to do, and part of Poe's plan in flying out to see his dad had been to make a few stops on the way back. The first is Torque, a quick jump from Yavin 4. It isn't the nicest spaceport in the sector, but it's the capital and it’s busy, which means they can blend in and listen, get a feel for what’s going on outside their immediate circle. Finn is meeting with one of Vi Moradi's people to exchange news, someone he'd met on Batuu who happened to be passing through the sector, while Poe is meeting with one of Grakkus the Hutt's pilots for a brief, off-the-record meeting on conditions in Hutt space.
Poe walks to a cantina not far from the landing pads on his own, his senses on high alert. He's in a dingy spaceport in the Outer Rim, a general of the Resistance who still has a large bounty on his head. Armed and aware, he notices immediately when he turns that the street he's on—more of an alley, really—is unusually quiet and empty. Perfect setup for an ambush.
He comms Finn. "I've got a bad feeling about this," he says as quietly as he can. "Good chance someone knows we’re here. Stay alert." Finn confirms the message. Poe unhooks his blaster, speeding up his pace. As he reaches the end of the alley, he senses a presence behind him, and feels a blaster in his back.
"Don't move," says a low voice, a familiar voice.
"Finn?" asks Poe. "What're you—"
The blaster pokes him hard in the ribs, so definitely not Finn (and they don't really play like that in public, anyway.) Poe glances over his shoulder to catch a glimpse of a tall, dark-skinned man, a bounty hunter by the looks of him, though he is close in size to Finn and certainly sounds similar.
"Hands up, blaster to me, then turn around slowly."
Poe raises both hands, discreetly tapping his comm twice as he does, and the hunter takes his blaster. Poe turns and finds himself facing his captor. He's dressed in a black flight suit, with a leather vest and boots lined in red, and he’s armed to the teeth. He's only an inch or two taller than Poe but almost two decades older, short hair and beard shot with grey and a prominent scar running from his temple to his jaw on his right side. He seems familiar, though Poe is almost certain they’ve never met before. Strangely enough, what stands out most are the man’s eyes: tired brown eyes that do not look like the cold, hard eyes of most bounty hunters Poe has met.
The man looks at him with a frown.
"What, not what you expected?" Poe asks. "I get that a lot. It's the hair."
The bounty hunter shakes his head as he pats Poe down, taking his second blaster and a knife. "It's the hair that makes you so recognizable, General," the man says. His voice really does sound like Finn, and his eyes…Poe shakes off the idea. "Maybe if you cut it, half a dozen hunters would stop looking for you."
"Only half a dozen?" Poe asks. "How disappointing. I remember when I was on top of everyone's list."
"Sorry, General," the man says, and there is a wry smile with the strangely apologetic words. "Peace is not as good for business."
"Maybe you need a new business," Poe suggests. He has a funny feeling about this grizzled bounty hunter, as if the man before him is nothing like the image he projects. He doesn't want to hurt this man but talk him out of whatever he’s got planned. Or at least talk long enough for Finn to get there.
"You're actually my last job," the man says, almost conversationally. "There's still people willing to pay good money for your head." He takes out a pair of binders and motions at Poe to lower his wrists. Poe leaves his hands up.
"What if I paid you more?" he asks, lowering his voice and moving closer. "And then we forget this ever happened?" He smiles, turning on the charm, but the man snorts at him, so much like Finn that it’s eerie.
"Lower your arms, General. You can't afford me."
Poe shrugs. "It was worth a try." He slowly lowers his wrists, taking another step closer. Just as the hunter is about to clamp them, he headbutts the older man, sliding a pocket blaster into his palm as he steps back and hits the man with a glancing blow in the arm. The hunter recovers quickly, though, and blasts him in the chest, sending Poe flying backward and into the side of the nearest building. He rolls over and groans, thankful it wasn't set to full stun—or kill. This hunter is even more unusual than Poe thought. The man stands over him and is about to speak when Poe hears the click of a blaster behind them.
"Drop it," says Finn. The hunter turns and shoots so fast Poe barely has a chance to shout a warning. But Finn has good instincts too: he ducks and pulls the blaster from the hunter's hands with his newest Force skill. The hunter looks at his gloved hand in surprise before he tries again with a second weapon, and Finn again slams it aside with the Force.
"I could do this all day," Finn says.
The hunter raises an eyebrow. "Then let’s forget the weapons." He charges Finn with raises fists and they start fighting hand to hand.
Poe drags himself to his hands and knees and slowly stands against the wall, hugging his right side with one hand and wiping blood from a cut on his temple with the other. He hit the building hard and will probably have some colorful bruises soon. He watches the fight for a moment as he recovers from the stun bolt: two highly skilled men, one much older than the other, yet still strong. Poe has the odd thought that it's a bit like watching Finn fight himself in thirty years.
It does not take long, however, for Finn to gain the upper hand and pin the man down, call a blaster to his hand, and press it to the man's neck.
"Yield!" he demands. The hunter got in a good hit and Finn's lip is bleeding, and he's clearly pissed off about it.
"Get off me!" the hunter snarls. "I yield."
"Finn," Poe calls, and tosses him the fallen binders. Finn clamps them behind the man's back and hauls the hunter to his feet.
"Who are you?" Finn demands, but the man looks away. Poe finally figures it out—the clothing, the scar, the stories, and he walks over, moving slowly and still holding his side.
"You're Tenga Idoma, aren't you?" he asks. "I've heard of you, didn't think you worked this side of the galaxy."
"A hunter goes where the bounty goes." The bounty hunter is standing tall and proud, a bruise forming on his left jaw, the wound on his arm small but red and raw.
"I'm the bounty," Poe stage-whispers to Finn, who rolls his eyes.
"Oh, you are both wanted men," Idoma says, laughing bitterly. "I figured I couldn't take you together, so I flipped a chip on who to follow first. I didn't think I'd get my ass handed to me by a former trooper if I followed the pilot."
Poe takes a step forward—always his instinctive response when someone refers to Finn as a Stormtrooper—but Finn stops him with a hand on Poe's arm. He's looking at the man curiously.
"Are you a former trooper, too?" Finn asks.
"I neverserved the First Order." The man spits in the street, so vehemently angry it earns a look of surprise from Finn. "They took everything from me."
"Then why are you tracking us down?" Poe asks. "We're fighting to make sure they don't ever do it again, you know."
The man shakes his head. "I told you, this is my last job. Then I'm done."
Finn looks to Poe with a shrug. "What should we do with him?" he asks.
Poe looks at the man, then back at Finn. The resemblance is almost uncanny. Something—his own instincts, or maybe the Force—prompts him to say, "Bring him with us." He turns to the bounty hunter. "You're under arrest."
"You can't arrest me!" Idoma exclaims, and struggles in his binders, grimacing with pain, but Finn holds tight.
"I'm a general, sure I can," says Poe. Which is not strictly true, but he needs more time with this man.
"What are we going to do with him?" Finn asks. "Why don't we turn him in to the authorities here?"
Poe thinks about what to say, how to say it. "I have some more questions for him," he says. "Come on, let's head back to the Falcon."
Finn looks both skeptical and curious as he comms Vi Moradi's man and explains the situation. Poe calls the pilot he was supposed to meet. The hunter moves reluctantly but does not put up a fight. It feels strange to be taking him in so easily, and Poe can’t help but wonder why—or if something is about to go massively wrong. He tries not to think about who Tenga Idoma might really be, but he can’t help but wonder about that as well.

Birthday on Batuu
Tumblr media
Words: 1281 Pairing: Han Solo x Reader Warnings: None Summary: Reader is traveling with Han and Chewbacca who’ve had to travel to Batuu on business. Normally Reader doesn’t mind going wherever the Falcon takes them. Except this particular day happens to be Reader’s birthday and they are not looking forward to spending it being ordered around by a certain Captain.
Tumblr media
It was a warm sunny day on Batuu. As usual, the rocky paths that wound their way through the Black Spire Outpost were packed with off-worlders. Some were stocking up for their next and much longer galactic journey to another spaceport. Mostly, the Outpost was host to smugglers, traders and any other such people who might want to avoid hyperspace travel and the Imperial check points. Han had told you and Chewbacca that you were just there for some simple refueling yourselves, but neither you nor the Wookie believed him.
“Now don’t you two go wandering off!” The Captain of the Millenium Falcon warned while your trio shuffled along the crowded streets.
“Where would we go?” You complained. “I can hardly move an inch right now.”
“I know you.” Han quipped. “You’ll find a way.”
“If we’re just here for refueling why are we heading away from the port?” You questioned.
“I have one or two small things to take care of while we’re here.” He said, keeping his eyes facing front.
You looked up at Chewbacca who towered over the majority of the crowd. You could tell by his expression he hadn’t been listening to you and Han. Instead, he’d been watching the other ne’er-do-wells of Batuu. So you continued following Han, wondering how long it would be before he explained what his plan was. As the path you were on opened to a wider town center, the crowd around you began to disperse. There was finally space between you and the next person. You could stretch your arms, swing them about if you wanted to.
“Meet me at Olga’s in thirty minutes.” Han ordered.
“What happened to no wandering off?” You hissed.
“That was just for you.” He explained as if it were obvious. “Chewy look after [Y/N] for me, will ya? Don’t give me that look. I’ll be right back.” There was a growl of disapproval from Chewbacca but Han stalked off anyway.
“This is the worst birthday ever!” You shouted after him.
“Can you believe him?” You asked Chewbacca, who said nothing. “Feel like doing some shopping?” The Wookie shrugged, indicating he didn’t have a preference either way. “Well, it’s better than waiting at the Cantina for another thirty minutes so c’mon.”
You supposed you should be used to this sort of behavior from your Captain by now. Although affectionate in his own little ways, Han Solo had a tendency to be, for lack of a better word, selfish. He had a one-track mindset and would get laser focused on one task to the point where it became all consuming. You guessed his plans on Batuu were just one of those things. He wouldn’t be able to think clearly until he finished the task he’d set for himself.
With Chewbacca following closely, you perused the various stalls and stands that lined the town center. There were baubles and trinkets from all across the galaxy. Even from a distance you could identify stoneware, textiles, and even what you were certain were black market weapons. One cart featured an elderly man peddling what looked like blue and green milk.
What really caught your eyes though, was a shimmering green gemstone not too far away. The stone sparked under Batuu’s sun. It was a deep green that reminded you of the waters on your home world. It wasn’t particularly large and it was set in a plain white metal as a pendant, but you absolutely loved it.
“Isn’t it beautiful Chewy?” You whispered to the Wookie beside you. Chewbacca was once again indifferent. You rolled your eyes at the Wookie before asking the vendor for a price. Your heart sank as you realized it was far more credits than you had in your possession. You thanked the vendor and continued browsing even though you knew you’d never find anything as magnificent.
It wasn’t long before your time was up. You left the market empty handed. Chewbacca guided you towards Olga’s Cantina. At least there were some benefits to traveling with a Wookie. Not only did they have premium vantage points, but they could also part a crowd quickly and were excellent navigators. Though that last point may have just been Chewbacca, you weren’t exactly sure.
At the entrance to the cantina, Chewy signaled for you to wait outside. He wanted to go in and assess the situation first. You wanted to argue, having been to Olga’s several times without incident bur you stopped yourself because you’d also been to plenty of places with Han that had quickly turned into an incident of the Captain’s creation. You agreed to wait outside as Chewbacca slipped in.
After a few minutes you’d just about had enough waiting. It shouldn’t take that long to scope out a small circular bar. You moved your trigger hand to hover over your blaster. You pushed open the door of the cantina and crashed right into Han.
“You’re supposed to be waiting outside.” He snapped.
“Well, I got tired of waiting.” You snapped back.
“Can’t you just once do what your told?” Han sighed. “C’mon, I was coming to get you anyway. Our table is over here.” Han placed a hand on your elbow and gently dragged you over to an alcove where you knew one of the larger tables was. You were completely surprised to see so many familiar faces at the table when you arrived.
Luke Skywalker was there in his best set of jedi robes. He was nursing a glass of blue milk. His sister Leia sat next to him. She seemed to be discussing something in a hushed tone with Chewbacca. Lando Calrissian smiled the widest and the brightest when he saw you approaching. You didn’t really know why, both other than Chewy, Lando had always been your favorite of Han’s friends.
“What are you all doing here?” You asked.
“Celebrating your birthday of course!” Leia smiled.
“Han told us that on your home planet birthdays are a big deal.” Luke explained.
“So we all agreed to get together on neutral ground.” Lando added.
“Wow, I…Thank you.” Was all you could say. “You did all this for…” But as you looked to thank Han, you realized he’d disappeared again.
“He’ll be back.” Leia insisted. “For now, sit with us and let’s catch up. What have the three of you been up to?” She looked between you and Chewbacca as you sat down.
“Hey [Y/N]/” You felt a tap on your shoulder and turned to see that Han had returned.
“Hey, where have been?” You questioned. Han straddled the seat next to you.
“More errands.” He explained. “Say people give gifts for birthdays on your planet right?”
“Yeah most of the time.” You nodded. “Bringing everyone here was such a great gift.”
“That’s not you gift.” Han sounded slightly offended. He reached into the pocket his vest and removed a small pouch. “This is.” Han dropped the pouch into your hand. “Go on, open it.” He said impatiently.
“Okay, I am!” You laughed at his urgency. You untied the drawstrings on the bag and peaked inside. It was some type of jewelry. You reached inside the bag and removed a necklace. Not just any necklace, the same one you saw in the market earlier.  “Oh Han…”
“It’s okay right?” Han asked nervously. “I mean I don’t know much about this kind of stuff and I know it’s not much…”
“I love it, Han!” You promised. “And I love you!”
“Love me, huh?” Han leaned back in his seat. He was teasing you now, but the relief on his face was obvious. “I can’t wait to see what you come up with for my birthday then.”
