Playin through Starfield and now with the news on the 2077 re-release I'm struck with how non-D&D cRPGs can never seem to figure out what to do with character progression. Bethesda ever since oblivion seems to have been trying wildly different systems of how your character progresses, and CD projekt came up with wildly different character progression systems for it's three Witcher games, and with 2077 they seem to have entirely redesigned the system in the re-release.
One of the big overhanging questions here is "How are the enemies becoming stronger?" One of the thing I note here is that there is often a weak or no story explanation of why enemies become more difficult later in the game. Are the bandits you meet at the end of the game really that much more elite than the ones you meet in the middle? The enemy scaling is operating on an entirely different logic than the story. This might not be quite as much the case in D&D-based systems, theoretically built on monsters that are meant for specific character tiers but even then there's a fair amount of playing around to make the gameplay work.
That means that though that there's not really a framework you can use for designing the gameplay, so the designers keep trying new approaches that I get the sense from all the changes they are never entirely satisfied with. If you are powering up by spending points, and the enemies you encounter are more powerful, how are fights in the beginning supposed to be different from the ones at the end? Who fuckin knows?

My mcr shirt collection 😝
I don't mean this as a form of flexing/bragging, really I just like cataloging stuff. Also, it might give people some ideas of what to hunt for? I’ll explain where I got everything as best as I can/remember!
Frank solo shirts:
Tumblr media
• cross anchor shirt - bought at a 2014 show.
• Friday the 13th parody “I hope I die before they save my soul” shirt - bought at a show in either 2015 or 2016
Gerard solo:
Tumblr media
G “warm and fuzzy” - bought online in 2015 maybe? I cropped it but sadly it's a little short now.
G “Gerard Way” white shirt - I think this was apart of a package deal when you bought the CD? Bought online in 2014!!
Hesitant Alien crewneck - Bought online in 2014!! I love this one, it's so soft I wear it to sleep often.
My Chem:
Tumblr media
“Newark, NJ” Castle shirt - Bought on depop probably around 2016. This particular one I think was sold as a 10 year anniversary version of the original design back in 2011. there’s a Roman numeral X on the back to mark 10 years.
Tumblr media
“Ride it like you stole it” hearse shirt - bought at a hot topic outlet store in upstate New York in 2014! One of my faves
"Wanted" Killjoys shirt - Bought either on ebay or depop back in probably 2017ish!! another one I cropped. I only started to wear this more recently, but I love the design.
“Take it like a man” electric chair re-release shirt. From the 2022 online re-release.
Tumblr media
projekt revolution shirt with your dates on the back - newest find! Bought in a record store in New Jersey just last month.
Skeleton mask shirt - found at a local flea market! I think it was originally sold during the black parade era and was actually a series of misprinted shirts.
Tumblr media
"Gerald" Bathroom shirt - Gerard's Mystery shirt from the 2022 tour. Bought at the 2nd Toronto date!
Milky Way shirt - Mikey's Mystery shirt from the 2022 tour. Bought at the same date!
+ Bonus
Tumblr media
Gerard's 2010 Comic Con Hawaiian shirt - Yes I'm counting this!!! Although not exactly his shirt, it's the same fabric pattern. Bought on a vintage store website back in 2016. I wear this all the time lmfao

Asian Representation in Cyberpunk 2077
For a long while, I have this idea floating about writing what Cyberpunk 2077 did about Asian representation. This long overdue but similarly complex topic that was an unintended follow up to my previous post about my argument against Orientalism in Cyberpunk 2077. In that post, I tried to write as concisely as I can but I realized that I did not articulate further using the game itself which leads to some persistent confusion and casual assumptions about the game.
As a disclaimer, I am not defending orientalism or even war crimes while discussing about Cyberpunk 2077. I am not endorsing only negative portrayals of Asian people nor defending the problematic western stereotypes of Asians in the media history. We could have a civilized discussion over this entire matter because lucky for all of you, I am fluent enough in English that I could use my own voice for this. Every words that I wrote in this series; about the topics I explored, about myself, my lived experiences, my history, my opinions and my criticism are all solely my own. I think I am uniquely qualified to talk about many aspects of this topic but I like to think I am not immune to criticism and neither was the Cyberpunk 2077 game itself. What I generally hope was my writings would help, inform, educate and hopefully clarify some of the contentious takes directed towards me, CD Projekt RED, R. Talsorian Games and the video game; Cyberpunk 2077. There was simply no perfect Asian representation that could encompass all of the wealth of diversity. We couldn't perfectly portray everything either in academia, in media, in writing, non-fiction or even fictional works either by Asians or non-Asians. Asia is the largest continent on earth. Asian people are richly diverse, complex and sometimes described to many people across various ethnicities and nationalities. All we could in representation works was to attempt, to explore, to criticize and to create more and better works as an honor to ourselves and to our people. We all have our own stories to share and our interpretations. There was so many things that I could write about Asians in Cyberpunk franchise but I intend to fully explore again that was more than just the controversial Arasaka family or the Tyger Claws. I want to talk about the Asian aesthetics of Night City and many Asian characters in the game and including Cyberpunk Edgerunners' Lucyna Kushinada and Cyberpunk 2077 : No Coincidence's Aya and because of the impending release of Phantom Liberty, I am looking forward to explore Song So-mi @ Songbird. (Especially with the OST release, I know that CDPR used traditional Korean performance Pansori as Songbird's musical leitmotif and I'm so excited to explore that once I played the expansion) But for starters;
Not all Asians are East Asians
I wished I didn't have to write that down but I realized it was something that a lot of online discourses in English seemed to center itself either by non-Asians or East Asian diaspora in Western countries. It was most apparent within these published articles : Orientalism, Cyberpunk 2077, and Yellow Peril in Science Fiction and How Cyberpunk 2077 Resurrects the 1980s’ “Japan Panic” which were very hyperfixated on Arasaka and the Tyger Claws. Another element that I noticed from these articles and by their writers, they both neglect the fact that not every diasporic Asian portrayed in Cyberpunk 20777 are East Asians. Not every Asians are Japanese or Chinese or Korean.
I am not East Asian.
I am Southeast Asian.
My V was a Malay woman like me. Someone who was flawed, imperfect and maybe portrayed many sides that was very unbecoming to the image of a Malay Muslim woman. I created this Tumblr blog mainly to share my own CorpoV. She was my own OC that I was simply obsessed with. Cyberpunk 2077 remained to be the only game that truly allowed me to craft a genuine Southeast Asian woman protagonist with her personal history that was almost relevant to me on personal level.
Tumblr media
However, V could be anyone of any races or ethnicity. She could also be Japanese, Korean or Chinese because the game have localization with those languages. In the game, V can love sushi, drink tea, burn incense and work for a fictional Imperial Japanese company. After all, Cyberpunk 2077 is a roleplaying game . But did you know who else was also a Southeast Asian in Cyberpunk 2077?
Tumblr media
Aha... think I don't notice the casual disrespect towards our glorious living legendary Pinoy rockerboy ever? My next post will be all about Kerry Eurodyne.
We will discuss Kerry in the TTRPG, what he become in Cyberpunk 2077, his complicated history, his character analysis, his traditional Batok tattoos, his relationships to Johnny Silverhand, their band Samurai and other Filipino representation within Cyberpunk 2077 game. However, I have to admit that my own exposure to my dear neighbouring Philippines was genuinely abysmal. I live in West Malaysia and unlike my Sabahan and Sarawakian friends, I am not exposed enough to the Phillipines. Personally, I won't claim I am an expertabout Filipino people, culture and heritage (and if you are from Phillipines, feel free to DM me, please) but I hope to do justice about our beloved rockerboy in the way he truly deserved. Didn't just make music on that boat. Busted my ass servin' drinks, waitin' tables. Free time, I-I composed till my fingers bled. - Kerry Eurodyne "Boat Song"

I know you're a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, but any thoughts on The Witcher (3)? I went through a whole CD Projekt phase in 2020, despite never having played the games, but I listened to a ton of lore videos, etc.. I clearly love Henry Cavill's Geralt, but I love game Geralt just as much. I have also probably listened to 30+ hours of videos just dragging Cyberpunk for its botched release because they were fun to listen to while working, but I think the game has probably since patched and improved.
I really like The Witcher 3! It was the first game I bought for my PS4 back in 2015 and I loved the lore and the world it took place in. And Geralt is one of my favorite old men in video games. I tried to replay it a couple of years ago, but the controls and the menus hadn't aged well, so I'm looking forward to playing the remake at some point when it's on sale.
I've also been very "meh" on Henry Cavill throughout the years, like, he does nothing for me in most roles, but I LOVE him as Geralt in the Witcher show. He really embodied everything I loved about the Geral in the video game (I haven't read the books and don't think I will) and I'm sad he's leaving the role.
Re: Cyberpunk, yeah, it still amazes me that one of the most beloved game studios could fuck up as bad as CD Projekt Red did with Cyberpunk. It just goes to show that no one is above criticism. Kinda reminds me of what happened with BioWare after the Mass Effect trilogy.
And I actually played Cyberpunk when it was released and full of bugs, but I always loved the story and the world, so it was really frustrating that the technical side failed so hard and the game was rushed out because the suits got greedy. I replayed it this fall and it's doesn't run smoothly on last-gen consoles like my PS4 Pro, but it was a very enjoyable gaming experience and if I ever manage to find a PS5 in an actual store, I'll definitely revisit it and play the story as male V.

honestly, SS is so bad in everything from picking ship's name to bragging about having some Japanese-like item (they set up a shot with laptop hanging on the edge of their table as if they are working and this vase just happened to stand there) from that fiasco with kanji etc etc etc that it's not worth mentioning to me anymore. they are a cultural appropriation, not because they're white german but because they're ignorant af about what they're doing.
I'm still genuinely surprised why and how they were hired because it's clear as day they can't produce a single good shot without supervision, which they demonstrated themselves after they re-made a shot they took for edgerunners update promo, with V in the middle, but with their ship instead which completely fucked up the composition of it
anyway long post short: SS is ridiculously talentless and brainless don't be like them
For me the most impressive part is how people let it go and I'm not just talking about the fandom, but the work environment. As much as I love the company CD Projekts it makes me question their ethics.

Major Study: Pre-Production
Narrative
In the not too distant future Greenland has become more habitable due to climate change. In a desperate act to change the destructive tendency of humankind, Denmark donated it to the world as a true neutral zone, allowing many countries to create settlements in the southern regions. This was in an effort to create a new type of free-movement continent where people from every culture and creed could work together to try to create a blueprint for a more Utopian and earth-centric try at civilization.
However, once the great Greenland ice shelf had significantly receded, there began to be some abnormal meteorological phenomena beyond those usually expected with climate change. The Aurora Borealis, caused by solar radiation interacting with the Earth magnetic field, began to manifest in violent magneto and electrical storms which struck down to earth. Machinery began to malfunction, reform and take on a mind of its own. When the machinery was destroyed, red/violet wisps and fireflies reminiscent of the aurora were released, returning to a green colour and floating away. This phenomena excited scientists who discovered a new way this energetic matter behaved, while the spiritualists rekindled the ancient belief of protective, ancestral spirits dancing in the sky.
Despite belief in science or spirits, the reality was clear: this phenomena was taking over machinery and so all militaristic machinery, although unwelcome before as it was in conflict with the ideals of a Utopia, was absolutely barred entry to Greenland. There was a re-emphasis on clean energy which seemed to reduce the frequency of these storms, and gave the spirits less destructive power when taking over machinery. In someways, it had become a vivid actualisation of the need for balance.

Cyberpunk 2077 character class selection, CD Projekt Red, 2020.
I want this game to be the antithesis of Cyberpunk 2077 but as if it were also created by CD Projekt Red. Bearing this in mind, I wanted to create some flexibility with customisation and replayability by having the player choose to start from three classes of character with special skill sets as well as any cultural settlement of their choice. Each playable class will also have a customisable robotic companion with unique abilities.
These three classes are:
Dark Solar Nomad with a defensive spirit mecha companion. There area of expertise will be geared toward survival and spiritualism. They will be able to free, defeat or tame the spirit bots with greater ease.
Frontier Engineers with a movable workshop robot companion equipped with early advance sensors. Their specialist skills will involve crafting, including weaponry, and optimising solar output.
Merchant with a huge hauler & refinery bot companion. Their special skills will include trade, exploration, connections and optimised routes.
While there will be some conflict with shadow factions trying to sabotage or take-over peaceful settlements, the main threat will be from spirit mecha and the environment. To add interest to day cycles during summer, there will be more intense magneto storms which will darken skies and blast aurora and lighting down to earth to add visual intrigue. This will enhance threats and create additional perks or disadvantages depending on your class. Dark Solar will have resistance in these storms as well as a spiritual power buff, while the merchant class is disadvantaged as haulers hunker down and deactivate to protect themselves. Engineers gain experience toward unique unlocks if they are able to safely observe the storm.
Combat
There will be special events triggered by the main narrative and side quests where settlements are attacked by spirit mecha. This will entice players to build strong and sustainable structures.
There will be spirit mecha of varying size and threat roaming the Tundra, when you free the spirits, the mecha is harvestable. The most dangerous spirit mecha will have weaponry illegally imported.
Being a game persuing Utopia, hunting animals for sport wouldn't seem ideal, but having spirit mecha that have gone on a rampage to hunt and free solves the issue well for players that enjoy combat and strategics. The Horizon franchise inspired this idea.
Tumblr media
There will be shadow cults and roaming bandits who threaten the peace.
Building & Crafting
The player's base settlement will be fully customisable with styles unique to that region. They can create stunning agricultural biomes for growing different plant species for food, crafting and trade and develop and design clean energy systems.
Players can also craft unique mecha to help with chores, the more mecha, the more power required, etc. The materials will mostly be scavenged, allowing for a unique build opportunities with mechanics similar to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Tools and weapons to defeat threats will be crafted using scraps and other unconventional tech.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Combat Just Got a Lot Less Overwhelming
Tumblr media
I have a great admiration for the user interface in Cyberpunk 2077. The developer, CD Projekt Red, has successfully integrated a seamless communication of vital player information such as health, ammunition, and cyberware opportunities into an immersive and stylish design that reflects the essence of Night City. This same level of detail extends to most of the weapons as well; when aiming down the sights, you can glean information on distances and ammo counts, and the game often plays with your perception to fully engage you in the game world. However, at times, this level of detail can be overwhelmingly distracting, particularly during intense firefights. Fortunately, one modder has come up with a solution. There's a multitude of Cyberpunk 2077 mods that enhance your experience in Night City. With the release of Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty, modders are either re-releasing their mods or adapting them to function with the base game. To address the issue of scopes, 'theCyanideX' has introduced the Preem Scopes mod. This mod simplifies the visual effects of scopes, making them more manageable during any Cyberpunk 2077 gaming session. This mod is akin to the changes made by cyberware mods or the HD rework for Cyberpunk. It may be a minor adjustment, but it's a highly appreciated one, and it has already garnered thousands of downloads. According to theCyanideX, it "removes scope glitches, scanlines, tint, and 3D HUD effects," and it also reduces distortion and vignetting. If you'd like to see a direct comparison between the mod and the base game, there are side-by-side images available in the RPG game that illustrate its effects. Preem Scopes is part of a more extensive Preem mod collection that both enhances and subtly alters various visual elements in Cyberpunk, including hair, skin, and beards. Keep in mind that Preem Scopes doesn't eliminate every additional detail from scopes, but it does simplify them, making it much easier to use almost any weapon equipped with a scope. theCyanideX also mentions that not all scopes have been "preemified" yet, so if you notice any missing scopes after downloading the mod, you can leave a comment to bring it to their attention. You can find and download Preem Scopes right now if you're interested in implementing this change, and the installation instructions are included. If you're deeply immersed in Phantom Liberty and looking to revamp your playstyle, we've compiled the best Cyberpunk 2077 builds for Update 2.0, along with the Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements for your reference. I wasn't even born yet when this happened, and I'm still pissed off that they didn't re-release 2001: A Space Odyssey in the year 2001. Oh, well. At least we got until 2077 for CD Projekt Red to re-release a (good) version of Cyberpunk 2077.

‘Obvious’ Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition confirmed for 2023 after the DLC
‘Obvious’ Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition confirmed for 2023 after the DLC
Cyberpunk 2077 – remember, the Phantom Liberty DLC isn’t coming to last gen platforms (pic: CD Projekt Red) Much like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 will see a re-release in 2023 that bundles the game with all the DLC, including Phantom Liberty. Back before the game had even launched, CD Projekt confirmed that it would approach Cyberpunk 2077’s post-launch DLC similarly to The Witcher 3: Wild…
